[Q] Xiaomi Hongmi keeps re'-downloading inbox (activesync) - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
Just as the title: One of the users in the office has a Xiaomi Red Rice (or Hongmi). He has an exchange mailbox..rather busy, receiving hundreds of emails every day. This seems to drive the XIaomi crazy. Randomly (but VERY oftenly), it will start redownloading all the inbox. When it gets close to finish updating...it empties the inbox and starts again. I deleted the email data, the corporate account, re-added it. I thought it would be an OS issue. I upgraded the OS to the latest official, MIUI-HHBHKBD16.0 (via the System Updates menu), and this new version still has the issue.
What can I do? I'm getting a bit desperate.
EDIT: Forgot to add: Sync is set to Push, and period of sync to the bare minimum, 1 day. But within that day he's seriously receiving several hundred emais.

Maybe try another email application?

Emails disappearing from exchange inbox and calendar not syncing help please

Hi all, I'm fairly experienced with the WM world (been using since WM2002) and am usually able to fix plenty of people's problems (on here and in the real world). I have run into an issue that I haven't quite been able to figure out. If it were my phone, I'd probably reflash a different rom on it (or even same one) and try it again fresh, but since it is not my phone I haven't tried it yet. Anyways, here is the issue.
My coworker has configured his phone running his provider's stock WM6.1 standard rom. He (well me, he had no idea it was possible until I showed him) is trying to connect his phone to the company's exchange server to get email on the phone. I have configured this (or instructed how to do this) for over 25 people where I work, and the only issues that I have ever run into were certificate issues. I manually pulled down the root certificate, made a cab file containing it, and installed it on his phone. This is easily verified by accessing the company's OWA site from Pocket IE. Without the certificate installed, a certificate warning appears, and with it you access without a problem (which I can do). So certificate, checked.
Now after a soft reset, it comes time to configure it. I get the email address, password, and domain in without a problem. Then the OWA address is put into the server address. Then the specific mail and calendar items are configured (such as retain last 3 days of mail, download 50KB of each message, show last 2 weeks of calendar, etc.), and finish is hit. The device successfully syncs, with no errors appearing on the screen. I even see items come down in activesync (such as syncing 82 contacts, 5 calendar events, and some emails).
I opened pocket outlook, and his inbox is empty. Odd, so I send him a test email from my AT&T Tilt (cooked WM 6.1 rom), and it arrives to his device on the next send/receive. Then, I hit send receive again on his phone and the test email disappears. I have tried changing the "retain" option for email from last 3 days to last 2 weeks, and no difference. Also the Calendar is empty. I sent him a meeting request and he accepted it, but it isn't on his mobile phone's calendar (but it is on the exchange calendar).
The only thing that I could think of is a rule to move everything to his personal folder on his laptop, but he says that he doesn't have one and moves everything over by hand. I'm thinking about swinging by his desk and confirming, but he isn't dumb and I'm sure he isn't lying about it.
I have been searching google (here and full internet google) without much luck. Thanks for any ideas to try, or else I'm gonna go soft reset his phone
Jason
Well he did tell me when he closed outlook on his work PC, everything started working right. I might try to swing by and look at his outlook afterall.
Jason
btw, if your poutlook syncs only new mails, and your server is configured to not keep messages on the server, the message might be deleted every other send/receive.

[Q] Captivate Stops Checking E-Mail. Anyone else?

Did a search and could not find a similar thread addressing this issue. If I am incorrect, I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
I am currently running Assonance 5.2 and have set up Yahoo and Exchange accounts, with the phone set to check for email either every 5 minutes (for my Exchange account) or once every hour (for my Yahoo account).
I have noticed that, on a daily basis, my phone will stop checking for emails altogether even though background sync is turned on. Additionally, even when I delete emails from my phone, they remain on the server. Lastly, even though I have read an email, it still shows up as unread on the server. The phone has stopped checking at random times - on Monday, it stopped checking after 3:00 p.m.; on Tuesday and Wednesday, it stopped sometime after 6:00 p.m.; and on Thursday, it stopped checking around noon.
I have tried Improved Email and K-9, but the problem remains. As an FYI, I had the same problem even when I was running an unrooted phone that was running the stock Eclair.
Have other people encountered this issue? If so, is there a way to get the email working correctly? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Same here. I use mine for corporate and I have to say my Iphone was 10 times better when it came to email etc. Sometimes I can force a refresh....others I have to reboot. But I have missed some critical emails because they just werent syncing. I have learned to deal with it although it stinks. My email blows up during business hours, so If I havent gotten an email in ~45min, I know to check it.
I had this problem in the stock email client. Clearing the cache under the applications settings menu fixed it for me. After I had to fix it this way for about the 3rd time, I switched to K9 mail and havent had a problem since. I have hotmail, POP and Gmail accounts.
Im stock, by the way.
sent from my Captivate
Thanks for both of your replies. I'm glad (sort of) to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.
@mike parsons - I am in the same boat as you where I have missed critical work emails due to the phone not fetching my email. I also grudgingly agree that the iPhone mail client worked much better. The only thing I could do to get the email on the Captivate working again was to restart the phone. Even then, I sometimes had to restart 2-3 times before the emails were sent to the phone.
I had this issue with stock Eclair 2.1 on my Rogers sourced Captivate SGH-I896 running Eclair 2.1-update 1.
It happened rarely with POP accounts, never with G-Mail, but with Exchange ActiveSync it was disastrous. I set up and configured this, and with my old Windows Phone 6.0 it did this maybe five times in 18 months.
During the off-time between Christmas and New Years it only received e-mail properly on ActiveSync two days out of eight. I didn't get much e-mail during that time either.
Sometimes it helps if I manually changed it from automatic (push) to every 15 minutes and hit "refresh" but most often it did not. The only fix was to remove the ActiveSync account and re-establish it, and it would work fine for a week or so until it started doing this again.
Another thing that seemingly affected it, was how much e-mail I would sync. It would happen quicker if I sync'd the last month of e-mail versus let's say one or two weeks.
I had run Cognition 2.3B7 without a hitch for about a week and a half and it never happened.
I just upgraded to the stock Froyo 2.2 and I'm hoping this isn't an issue with the upgraded client.
Use k9 mail. This is lots better than stock.
@diablo009 - thank you for the suggestion. However, I had the exact same problem using K9, so I am not sure what else I can try.

Did u try configuring k9 to fetch mails at intervals? It would be "folder poll frequency" under account settings. Want to see if u did this too.
Also, some apps need "background data" to be enabled in settings. Is that set? Same question about "auto-sync" being turned on.

Thanks for the suggestions - yes, I had tried different folder poll frequencies on K9 - 1 minute, 5, minutes, 15, minutes, and so on. However, there are still times when I won't receive an email for hours even though K9 is set to poll much more frequently. I will only learn of this when I check my mail through my home or work computer. In fact, on occasions like this (when I learn that phone hasn't downloaded the new messages), I will go into K9 (or the email app) and hit either refresh or check mail. Even in these situations, the new mail won't show up on the phone until I restart the phone completely. Again, I had this problem both on stock Eclair as well as on Assonance 5.2.
Also, I had enabled "sync server deletions" on K9, but messages still don't consistently get deleted from the server.
Lastly, background sync and auto sync are both enabled in settings.

[Q] email client lies

Hi
My Htc Pro 7 (one week old) seems to pretend that it is syncing. It only takes 2 to 3 seconds over Wifi but it doesn't bother downloading new messages.
My (only) email account on the phone is a Blueyonder account (powered by Google). The initial set up went off and collected the account info.
I have turned off SSL and deleted the port numbers from the SMTP and POP settings.
Reentering the username and password convinced it to download the rest of yesterdays emails but not the test one I just sent myself or the others that are on the server.
Outllok 2007 is set to leave copies on the server for 10 days and over the years WM and Symbian handsets have not experienced this problem.
Any suggestions?
Tnx
Since re-entering the username password- the phone is set to look every 15 minutes and ever hour or so it seems to go off- ask if there are any new messages and then download the odd one without bothering to do download the rest...
Am I really the only person who has a mailbox that is at least a day behind???
I guess I am going to have to reset the phone, and lose all my texts etc.
Nice one MuppetSoft!!! By removing our rights to tweak things you have also prevented us from fixing things ourself. Please stop trying to be Apple.
Sometimes the same thing would happen when I hard reset my phone and set up my Hotmail account for the first time. E-mails don't download even though I can clearly see them on my PC. After a couple hours though, it fixes itself and my e-mails appear regularly, and at times, I get alerts to my phone even faster than I would on my computer.
Maybe give it a jump start by using your phone to compose, send, deleted, etc. Otherwise if it still isn't working, then it may be bugged and a hard reset may be in your future.
Thanks for the reply prjkthack
I can send emails without any problems. I have only had the phone just over a week and I am pretty sure that on day one it was working properly. I only noticed the issue a couple of days after the Nodo update- not sure if there is a relation or not.
I guess I will have to wait until i have a day off work before i can prepare for a hard reset. Being undiciplined i tend to leave client contact details in the form of text messages, rather than saving them to contacts.
odder and odder....
it has finally managed to catch up and is now up to date.
I have not made any changes/restores.
Lets hope it stays that way.
Now all I need is my Dev account to be approved so that I can play with mango.
Just bumping my own thread.
The problem returned.
UNTIL I remembered that my Virgin (blueyonder) email account (powered by Google) needs to be in the following format recent:[email protected]
I am such a wanker and should have remembered sooner!!!!
I guess it is a timeout issue, ordinarily the email client asks the server if there are any messages- the server responds "sure about 10000", the email client says "sod that, I'm not cross referencing your list with the ones i am already aware of -I'm off".
With the addition of recent: it only asks for the emails received in the last week or two.
Hopefully the above will be of help to someone else in the near future

Secondary Hotmail syncing even though it's set to "manual"

Anyone else having this happen?
I have two hotmail accounts. One has my gamertag and is just my first and last name. That one's fine.
The second is my slush account which I use for forums, sign ups, etc. I have it set to Manual sync, yet it always syncs on its own. I just checked and it says "synced 17 mins ago". Anyone have an idea why it is doing that?
I have conversations turned off, and definitely set to "manual". I even set it to download email from "anytime", as I was thinking that possibly if it was set to "last 7 days" that it would auto-sync to keep it updated to email from the last 7 days?
Also, even though it's set to get email from "anytime" (which means in my other Hotmail that it grabs pretty much all of it), it still is only displaying the last week or so's worth.
I suppose I'll just delete it from my phone, then re-add it. But just wondering if anyone is familiar with this issue?
/LG Quantum with forced Mango in Ontario. Drivers as well.
I had the opposite problem, where I had the email set to sync every 15 min, and it had to be manually updated. It still showed the proper amount of emails though, since I had it set for last 7 days. I just ended up removing and re-adding the account.

Gmail stuck on "Syncing mail..."

Hi everyone,
I've had a Pixel 2 (128 GB), since November. Had no issues until 2-3 days ago, I noticed that under the notifications it says "Syncing mail..." and just stays there forever. I've got 3 different mail accounts (Gmail, Hotmail, work), I've turned off syncing to all 3 accounts but the notification remains. I'm unable to force stop, and the only way to make it go away is to turn on airplane mode and reboot the phone. But the moment I turn data back on the message comes back.
Anyone got any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks.
Had this issue, too. Removed my Outlook Mail Account and added it again... Solved the problem for me.

Same issue happening for me as well......Cleared data and cache, didn't fix it, removed account and put it back, still didn't fix it. Seems to have started after the most recent Gmail app update.
gmail has been very buggy with this phone. Emails come late or don't sync until multiple attempts.
I have the exact same issue on a Nexus 6P. It happened during the Oreo beta, then went away after public release. Came back this week. I have done all of the steps above - still a constant notification. Super annoying.
Same thing here on OnePlus 3 Oreo
It just started happening last week on my OnePlus 3 with Android Oreo and it annoyed me enough to Google the problem and I landed here. I haven't tried anything yet and not going to (too much work to resync multiple accounts) - this seems like a bad app update. Going to wait it out until the next one.
Same issue, some more info
I have the same issue, it seems to be related to work accounts going through Exchange. If you remove your work account the notification goes away. But if I add it again I still have the same problem. It is also only an issue on Oreo, I have seen that OnePlus users are now having the same problem after updating their devices. For now I have configured my work Exchange email to use IMAP, this gets rid of the syncing message but email is no longer pushed, it gets synced every 15mins
Alternatively you can un-install updates from Gmail and turn off auto update on the Gmail app and then add your Exchange account, this seems to get rid of the constant mail syncing message.
Got the same issue on my HTC 10 after upgrading to Oreo, tried removing and re-adding the exchange account and clearing cache and data but nothing gets rid of it.
I am getting this on my OG Pixel. Probably not something Pixel/Pixel2 related, sounds a lot more like Oreo/Gmail APP related (not specifically gmail itself, just the app).
If I had to pose a guess, this is likely Exchange sync, where some function of exchange sync in gmail is causing the app to prompt this constantly. I won't venture a guess what, though I have a theory. In either way, it's annoying and seemingly benign. as in, it causes no problems either with sync or with the phone, but if you're like me and like to have a neat and tidy notification bar, it will drive you utterly mad.
This comes and goes for me, it's not consistent. Usually toggling WiFi on and off makes it go away after connecting and reconnecting to a network. I have an Exchange account added.
I found out that my issue was that I my outlook already syncs with my Gmail, so i didn't actual have to add my outlook account. It was "gmailified" already.
Solved this issue on my Samsung M30s
I tried all the methods shared by other users, however finally I logged out and login again my email account, then restarted the device to resolve this constant syncing email issue.
I hope it would be helpful to others as well.
