The tablet had a smashed screen, but was working fine. I replaced the digitizer and it didn't respond to touch. I put another new screen on it with the same result. I tried restoring to factory but it didn't change.
Anybody know what went wrong?

Touch screen issues
My app dock area has issues with touchscreen and part of my screen is unresponsive as well. At first i thought it was software so i wiped it back to stock but during recovery menu screen I have problems with my touch screen as well.. I went back to stock with RUU, went back to another custom rom, and checked out the main sticky thread on the main forums. Nothing helped..
I think i should just replace the digitlizer but from the looks of it i should just buy both the lcd and digitlizer alreyad togther so i can advoid breaking the lcd or any problems during installation.

am i correct?
atm im just waiting out for the new samsung note 3 or nexus 5
i've just replaced the digitizer on my galaxy apollo, and it works fine at first, but any time the screen has been locked, the touch screen won't wake up again. after rebooting, it works fine again, until the screen is locked again. i've taken it apart again and checked the digitizer is properly connected. i don't think it's anything to do with a loose or faulty connection, as it still happens if i lay the phone flat and keep it completely still.
i'm fairly sure the digitizer is a proper one, it's samsung branded and looks identical to the one i removed. is there anything i can change so that the touchscreen wakes up properly when i unlock the screen?
i'm fairly sure that i've just bought a poor quality digitizer. it still did the same thing even after formatting and reflashing the rom. then when i reinstalled the old digitizer, it worked fine again. i carefully cleaned the contacts on the new digitizer and tried installing it again, and the same thing happened, once the screen had been locked the touch screen was completely unresponsive until rebooting.
I didn't drop it or anything. All of the side buttons work so I tried a hard reset and my phone is encrypted so I have to enter my passcode to get back into my device. I have a Nexus 5 unrooted, completely stock. Basically the touch screen was working perfectly fine and then just stopped working. Do I buy a whole new screen? It's not the lcd because I can see everything on the screen. If you need any other info let me know and thanks for your help!
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
Again, your hardware is damaged, get the hardware fixed.
Hi,
I've bought a new screen + digitizer and replaced it with my broken screen. At first it didn't work...but after updating my N5 device with a OTA cable and a mouse i worked for about a day. But this morning it was unresponsive again.
I've opened it up and checked that every ribbon cable is correctly installed.
The screen turns on fine, but the touch screen is unresponsive.
Any one who has a fix for this or know what to do?
Sounds like a hardware problem to me.
Your previous screen is completely dead ? If the previous screen worked try to put it back and see if it's ok. Maybe you damaged the flex cable or something. The nexus's connectors are really bad...
I've a very similar situation here. Where did you get the screen? Mine seems to work fro a couple minutes then it's unresponsive.
I think the screen is defective. I have replaced the screens on 6 or 7 nexus 5 phones with 3rd party frame/LCD/glass units from Aliexpress and they all continue to work after several months of use.
i have this question also. i can use my touch screen at the first time but not after reboot . Display works very fine to my new screen with digitizer.
Recently I dug a couple of smart phones out of the closet with the idea of getting as many as I could working in case I needed one.
This Galaxy S Duos 2 fell off my drum kit one day and hit the hi hat pdeal, shattering it's digitizer. I had three on the shelf, none of the three work. The phone boots fine, just that the touch response does nothing. I tried all three spare digitizers and even swapped the inner screen a few minutes ago.
It almost seems like a software issue. For the longest it was soft bricked. CWM would load as would the download mode, so I did a factory reset via CWM and wiped cach and dalvik cache. That got it booting again.
It's running the stock rom, don't know if it's still rooted (would have an old version of SuperSU if it is), and is the Latin American variant.
Ideas?
