Root Counter and QFuse - AT&T LG G3

This is not really a question, just an opportunity to discuss these two things. Apparently, the G3 has both. Any info that could be shared to increase knowledge of these two things would be greatly appreciated.

Just the root counter, not the QFuse.

Can these counters be reset if root was achieved with towelroot?
Sent from my LG-D850

From what I've gathered, towelroot and oiroot trip your counter. Either flash back to stock and root with purpledrake or wait for a full exploit, then do it. Simply using supersu to unroot isn't enough.
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Free mobile app

So flashing back to stock resets the counter? Or removes the 'rooted' flag?
More specifically, is this a counter like Samsung that keeps track how many times the phone was flashed or just a trigger that tells you if the phone is stock or rooted? And, is there a way to reset it?

I may be wrong but according to the forum PurpleDrake only work for t-mobile

Returning to stock using this guide will reset the root counter. I would recommend towelroot or ioroot to root with, as those are the ones that the op of the return to stock guide used to rest.
This is the guide I refer to

All credit to Neverends for this.

Purpledrake roots most phones, but not Sprint right now. It will root att version. I suggested purpleroot to permaroot because it doesn't trip your root counter.

Not sure if it's relevant or not....
Only QFuse I've come across is for SoC security, although it states it in your pic it's a QFuse board :what:
Hopefully it's just the name they've chosen for the board and not the actual QFuse Security as that's a one-way street, once they're tripped it's permanent

I would like to see if the t mobile crowd has this in their menu, seeing as their bootloader is unlocked. Not sure if it has anything to do with it but I remember with the sgs4 the qfuse is a huge deal.

I checked Qfuse and it said non secure image (ioroot here). Is the drawback no ota?

so using towelroot doesn't trip either of these by itself. having supersu installed doesn't either. as soon as you grant SU to an app it trips the the root flag. However it doesn't seem to trip the qfuse at all.

From what I've saw, yes. I can't comment on ioroot because I haven't used it.

Updated op. Busybox also trips the root counter.

I know this is a very old thread but I wasn't able to find any anwer to my question after quite some time searching.
I have a G3 D852 (Canadian) model, and my hidden/secret menu does not have any QFUSE section. Would that mean the Canadian model (D852) does not have a QFUSE? Or that it does have one but we can't check the status of it on this particular model?
Cheers!

The Qfuse is not anything a user has access to, this is a 'key' set up after/during programming the OTP (One Time Programmable) memory of the CPU. Any incorrect or illegal accessing this key essentially burns out that keys address and basically can turn your handset into a brick.
Qfuse has zero options.
Unless there has been something else given the same name/identity it's not worth playing with

Hi, thanks for the input, I get this. What I was actually asking is, if I want to be able to check the status of the QFUSE, as per post #1 of this thread, to see if its been "triggered" after rooting ... I'm missing the QFUSE menu item with the QFUSE CHECK option on a D852 Canadian G3. Since I don't see any options in the hidden device menu, I thought maybe the 852 version does not have the qfuse "driver" on it... Check fist post for details.
Cheers!

If you're on MDL and want MF3, I recommend rooting and installing a custom recovery while you can, and then flashing the neutered MF3 update. Root is in the General section, many MF3 ROM's can be found in Development sections. Make sure to read the whole OP in whichever you go to before doing anything.

I just really want the update so I can open the extra LTE bands. Also the Apps to SD would be nice. The Rooted roms dont fix the LTE bands. Also i dont care about rooting. Looks like CM is going to be coming out with a non root flash method for thier roms anyway.

Yes, you may be able to just flash the MF3 modem after a factory reset. That would hopefully resolve your current issues and open up the LTE bands.

The extra bands are unlocked through the service menus. Not through a modem. If that were the case, the update would unlock your device for any GSM carrier. AT&T is not going to do that.

If you want the MF3 rom and/or kernel, check out this thread. If you want just the modem (baseband), check out the latest addition, File #11 in that same thread.
Otherwise, I think this thread has been hijacked enough, and the original purpose has been served, in my opinion. The MF3 source is practically useless to anyone except Devs that want to build their own kernels.

Could the kernel source also be useful to those looking to find an exploit in MF3 (to unlock the bootloader or something to that effect), or is the kernel too high-level for that sort of thing?

Pretty sure it's too high level. It might be useful for finding a root exploit, but that's been done already for MF3. It wouldn't be useful for finding a way to unlock the bootloaders, but the only slim help it could find in this area is perhaps providing clues to understanding "aboot" more, and how it checks for signatures on, and loads the kernel. But even still, that's a longshot. TBH, anyone who might be looking for exploits here should already be aware of the source code's existence, plus this sort of exploit would brobably be little different between MF3 and MDL.
EDIT:
Also, welcome to XDA!
Excuse the possibly noobish question here, but what does this mean for the new root status? My phone came with MF3 and I really would like to get some custom ROMs on here. :?

Status on Root/Custom Recovery/Bootloader

I'd like to make this particular thread about the current status of root, bootloader, and recovery. Feel free to post here or PM me so I can keep this thread as up to date as possible.
Keep in mind our devices will likely take longer to gain these mods due to Verizon locking us down more than other carriers usually. We likely won't have an unlocked bootloader ever.
This is for the Verizon Galaxy S5 ONLY! And now AT&T S5, please welcome our brothers!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Root: Geohot has rooted our phones and if you pledged a donation please think about finding a way to get it to him. It is the right thing to do, but also not mandatory.

You could claim to have done it and say it works fine, just to get some other poor soul to try it, and if they don't come back wanting to kill you, should be safe to try....unless they realize what you did, and tell you it's fine just to brick you S5 too. On that note, it worked fine.

@1663 Tripping knox will void your warranty (unless you are in the EU it's debatable). Secondly you won't be able to use Samsung Pay.
I could care less about Samsung Pay. Wherever they accept SP they will accept Google Wallet, for the most part. I just bought mine brand new and it came with this build. I'm really regretting this device. I hope someone roots it, but it may be quite a while.

I could not wait for someone to root the newest version of lollipop for Verizon, just purchased a rooted phone from Swappa.com and sold my S6. That is a faster way, IMO, Instead of waiting for someone to root OF1.
