Thanks

If you're on MDL and want MF3, I recommend rooting and installing a custom recovery while you can, and then flashing the neutered MF3 update. Root is in the General section, many MF3 ROM's can be found in Development sections. Make sure to read the whole OP in whichever you go to before doing anything.

help
I am in need of the stock mf3 firmware. tried getting rid of bloat ware and now getting error messages all over and cant recover

OK...after downloading and extracting...this is only the kernel source...

help
i did just that....but know i get samsung text to speech has stopped as well as music has stopped...factory wipe and clean did nothing as well as restoring terminator back up of all things i uninstalled...nothing help so i figured fresh install of mf3 firmware would do the trick but i guess no one has that yet

I just really want the update so I can open the extra LTE bands. Also the Apps to SD would be nice. The Rooted roms dont fix the LTE bands. Also i dont care about rooting. Looks like CM is going to be coming out with a non root flash method for thier roms anyway.

You can unlock them... You don't need the update. Google.

Yes, you may be able to just flash the MF3 modem after a factory reset. That would hopefully resolve your current issues and open up the LTE bands.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4

The extra bands are unlocked through the service menus. Not through a modem. If that were the case, the update would unlock your device for any GSM carrier. AT&T is not going to do that.

Yeah AT&T opened up access to lte band 2 and 5 with the mf3 on their modem. Probably for international oversea purposes/partnership?

If you want the MF3 rom and/or kernel, check out this thread. If you want just the modem (baseband), check out the latest addition, File #11 in that same thread.
Otherwise, I think this thread has been hijacked enough, and the original purpose has been served, in my opinion. The MF3 source is practically useless to anyone except Devs that want to build their own kernels.

Could the kernel source also be useful to those looking to find an exploit in MF3 (to unlock the bootloader or something to that effect), or is the kernel too high-level for that sort of thing?

Pretty sure it's too high level. It might be useful for finding a root exploit, but that's been done already for MF3. It wouldn't be useful for finding a way to unlock the bootloaders, but the only slim help it could find in this area is perhaps providing clues to understanding "aboot" more, and how it checks for signatures on, and loads the kernel. But even still, that's a longshot. TBH, anyone who might be looking for exploits here should already be aware of the source code's existence, plus this sort of exploit would brobably be little different between MF3 and MDL.
EDIT:
Also, welcome to XDA!

Excuse the possibly noobish question here, but what does this mean for the new root status? My phone came with MF3 and I really would like to get some custom ROMs on here. :?

Crazy Theory / Idea [VERIZON]

When someone can get ahold of a sprint galaxy s3 odin (or the verizion developer edition odin though i'm pretty sure sprints will leak earlier)since the two phones are the same, can't some flash (Sprint) odin on the verizon unit, root it, unlock bootloader, then add verizon libs, rils, etc files (And eventually make it into a flash able zip) to make it actually work on the carrier. Is this just a crazy idea.
I hope this makes sense xD

Unlocked bootloader

So if i unlock my bootloader will i be able to take the JB OTA when it arrives? If not how do i restore the locked bootloader? Also what if my phone has issues.. Would vzw notice i have this?
Sorry if these r dumb questions. I am not 100% on unlocking it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Adam outler specifically stated to not do any ota's after unlocking the bootloader...besides the devs will bring us updates faster than ota anyways. Im not 100% but Adam has a stock bootloader.tar posted in the op of his thread. I believe you would flash that in the bootloader function of odin and that will relock your bootloader...now I am not 100% on this, hopefully others will confirm!
The stock bootloader and firmware flash should do the trick to take updates according to Adam himself in the unlock bootloader post. No guarantee you will ever be able to get it unlocked again though.
Also, CyanogenMod team have already switched to working on the CM10 (jellybean) non-kexec version for Verizon now according to the project status page. I wouldn't take Verizon OTA anyway, don't really want the dumbed down no local search that Apple is forcing on us with their patents.
So I should be able to flash any rom i want now? Also what recovery should I use? Stock/CWM/or TWRP? At least for the CM10s

First you should wait until Devs start releasing Roms and kernels that take advantage of the unlocked bootloader. If you are this unfamiliar with things, just relax and wait for some new/updated Roms to come out that have clear instructions for you. Don't rush into things and brick your phone because you don't fully understand what you are doing.

The only big difference between cwm 6 and previous versions is its support for kexec, but otherwise does the same thing and can be used for any of the Roms we already have (from what I understand. I tried finding the original thread i read that on but came up short so if I'm wrong someone please correct me as I don't want to spread false information).
And honestly I'm sure almost every rom will be updated within 24 hours to reflect this if not sooner and development will be full steam ahead! Just beware of an OTA cause you know Verizon is not gonna be happy we broke out of their sphere of influence. You can prolly guarantee this "issue" will be towards the top of their to-do list.

even if you unlock the bootloader and are worried about OTA's just install clockwork mod or team win. the custom recovery will stop the installation of the files. last line of defense as some phones will download and OTA and install it regardless of what you do (rezound, thunderbolt, etc)

As long as there are still kexec roms out there, you'll still need a kexec recovery to flash them. If you know for sure you won't be using kexec, use whatever you want except for stock. Don't ever flash the stock recovery unless you're mailing it off to Verizon.

That isn't strictly true. CWM 6.x has a couple of nice features that CWM 5.8.x doesn't, like the deduplication technique to save you space when you have multiple backups. You're right though, in that if you're happy with CWM, there's no reason to switch after unlocking.

The OTA's also fail once they boot into recovery if the stock recovery isn't there. So it's not likely you'll get a forced OTA that works.

Any reason to unlock the bootloader?

If I'm not big on flashing roms at the moment, is there any good reason to unlock the bootloader? The only benefit I've read so far is that booting up is a bit faster.
Also, seeing as how rooting and unrooting is pretty easy without the use of odin/flashing, is there a way to re-lock the bootloader without odin (in case an OTA update comes along the way)?
Any OTAs that come along are likely to break the insecure bootloader.
If you ever intend to use custom ROMs I would suggest not accepting any OTAs regardless.
Download ez unlock from the market to lock and re-lock.

To answer your question, there is no reason unless you want to flash a ROM with a custom kernel (eg CM or AOKP).
You can backup your bootloader and restore using terminal / dd, and I think some of 'one click' tools also are doing this now sounds like.

Take VRBMF1 Update Before Rooting

I haven't been prompted to update to VRBMF1 yet and haven't manually updated. I am still on VRBMB1. Ready to try Beans' one click root method but not sure whether to take the update first or not. Anyone have any suggestions?
Pretty sure it'll work, it doesn't really matter if you're going to end up flashing a custom rom; but it's all preference maybe if you want the new modems just take the update.

Just root. The newest update had signal and battery issues, along with many other issues. Verizon even pulled the OTA. Flashing a newer ROM will give you the newer features anyways, and it will be better.

It was incredibly easy. Only thing that tripped me up at first was that I didn't have the Samsung drivers installed on my PC. Since the thread didn't mention installing them I was assuming they weren't needed. You can get them here. Once I installed them and went through the steps in the thread, I was rooted and unlocked in a few seconds.

We have never had a bootloader unlock, we've had work arounds but never an actual unlock...hence the reason why we still have a bounty That has thousands of dollars promised to a dev that can unlock the bootloader...so no...no reason for a new bounty, the old one still stands

Then a workaround. Whatever gets MK2 busted loose for a custom recovery or a ROM. Root works great, but if you try to flash Safestrap or any custom ROM you're bricked. This is a bounty for functioning custom work for devices with the 4.3 OTA.

provide link to correct bounty
can someone please provide the correct link to the bounty for the AT&T SGH-I337 MK2 so I can contribute and follow the progress.
I was given a link to what looked like a bounty for the MK3 and did not want to contribute as that wont work for me.
Thank You
This for stock S4? Because I'm running MK2 unlocked/rooted on a custom ROM so I'm confused what the bounty is for exactly. Can someone please clarify?

This bounty is for people on the AT&T S4, model I337. It is for getting bootloader unlock/bypass and custom recovery for people who have taken the official OTA and have the MK2 bootloader.
As an exploit appears to be increasingly likely for MF3, I will give whatever I can afford to the devs involved once complete. Iwill give again if they can do the same for MK2. Sorry I can't be precise.
Also, I think it's worth bearing in mind that as this exploit is being developed, it is increasingly a collaborative effort. This will be a bounty for many.

This thread was created before safestrap was released...so thats what the point was, look at post dates next time. and keep in mind safe strap only allows for stock based roms, so a bounty still has a very valid reason: a bootloader unlock or way to flash a real recovery, that way we can flash non stock based roms such as CyanogenMod
but for now, im more than satisfied with safestrap
