Hey guys..
I have scratched the fluck nuggets out of my beautiful Raphael.
I have a one year warranty on the phone.
The following is worth the bad karma for me..., so please.. if you have only negative comments to make- please save it for someone who cares!!
I would like to kill/bomb/grenade my phone so that it appears completely toasted .. with little to no evidence it was damaged.
This probably means software .. since any physical damage will void the warranty.
I was thinking, restore the default SPL, flash the stock ROM back onto it, and then try to re-flash the stock ROM but pull out the battery half way into it.
Will this kill my phone worthy enough for AT&T to replace it for me? Or do you think they repair it (not ideal).
P.S. I have searched, I guess I dont know what terms to use or no one has the balls to go through with my type of evil plan.
All Advice (except negative comments) appreciated!
thanks guys
The reason why prices rise
Thank you for the extraordinarily helpful advice! I'll try that. Thanks!!
For the third time, i have selflessly helped others in this forum quite a bit. IF you have a negative comment that does not help me, mumble it to yourself and giggle. Do not waste your valuable time posting it here. You will not change my mind.
Any friendly people who can actually help address the questions I have posed are welcome to respond.
I understand what I want to do is frequently frowned upon ... but at the same time, charging $.20 to send some kilobytes through the air isn't exactly a nice thing to do to your loyal customers.
P.S. If AT&T offered equipment warranty on this phone .. this would not be an issue.
They decided to screw their customers by not offering it, and so I will work the system.

Maybe your idea is the reason behind that
Maybe so but that is irrelevant to the questions I have asked.
Are the scratches deep enough for a fingernail to get caught on them? thats what they ask you over the phone when turning in a device for a warranty exchange. If so then warranty is void.
On to the fun part
You could try unplugging the battery halfway through a flash which will cause the device to start up in bootloader mode. From their its easy to just restart the flash and be on your way. If you go to an At&t Device Support Center, most of the guys their aren't trained to each device specifically, they're mainly trained to rule out physical damage and go from there.
So it wouldn't hurt to try that. Unplug battery during flash and see what they'll do. I'll be surprised if they flash a rom because i've turned in one device that was stuck on a white screen and they just handed me a replacement fairly quick.
Now, the next thing you could try i figured out accidently by trying to improve GPS reception on my Tilt. Actually scratch that, just found out it won't work on the Raphael. With my tilt i took a copper wire (taken from an old landline telephone) and plugged it into the antenna extender port on the back of the device.
This greatly improved my GPS reception, then i stuck it in the other port (phone antenna) and i got 5 bars, but when i took it out, i couldn't get any service. I think it fried the antenna.
I took that device into the At&t Device Support Center and the guy at the desk handed it to the Tech who just looked at it, handed it back to me asked me if i wanted to back anything up and gave me another device (refurbished)
One last thing. Although i turned in a flawless At&t (no scratches nothing) in for a 5th warranty exchange and they gave me the Raphael, it ended up having 2 deep scratches on the frame of the keyboard of the device. When i called in they told me since it was my 5th return its not under any warranty.
this is kinda a crappy question to ask, and it's the reason we pay such high amounts for our beloved phones. BUT.... just zap the sh!t outta it with a stungun simplest way I can think of. maybe microwave it for 5 or 10 seconds? nah.. that'd just start a fire. stungun.
I wonder what a few seconds in the microwave would do or near a moderately strong electro magnet would do.
thankfully my fingernail does not get caught in the scratches .. its just abrasion scratches, kind of like what sandpaper would do. I can barely see the scratches when the screen is on .. unless I'm thinking about it.
I will try to F up a flash today. Maybe even when changing the bootloader so that there is nothing there to "take" a new rom. If anything, this will serve as a test-case for those wonder what would happen if your electricty goes out the next time your flashing (prevent it: use a laptop!)
for those that have contributed something useful so far. I THANK YOU. This forum is for sharing information, not morals.
I will post back with the results of the suicide and warranty exchange so others can learn from it

I'd have thought discussing insurance fraud is certainly pushing & bending that, if not breaking it completely.
Deliberately breaking your phone to claim under warranty or insurance is fraud. Please don’t drag our forums down to your level.

Exactly. Maybe you could learn a lesson and invest more care in your next device. Mods should close this thread.
ok, well under that logic, fraud will also be damaging your own phone, even if by accident, and then getting a warranty replacement and mentioning you have done so on the forum.
So that means everyone that flashes their phone and F's it up, then gets it replaced is also "getting the forum in trouble" because it is also technically warranty fraud.
How exactly the forum is now "in trouble", I will never know. Its not like you gave me the idea to screw my phone. I simply asked for advice and experiences. How dare I use a forum that has always been a help to me, for getting information, similar experiences, and help. I dont know what I was thinking.
Go ahead and lock the thread.. you guys are all whiney nannies anyway. Save me the trouble of having to hear you guys.
P.S. You should get out in the real world where cut throat tactics happen every day. Its kill or be killed in corporate America. (I work for a very large company and I know that so intimately, I couldnt give you the details if I wanted to .... i would fear for my way of life.)
Good luck on your crusade to right all the wrongs in the world. I learned its not worth the effort .. Playing their own game is far more beneficial.
one more thing. the worst thing that could have happened is I get denied the warranty exchange. That is my own risk and I acknowledge I'm taking it.
How would my attempt at warranty exchange EVER "obviously lead to legal trouble", ESPECIALLY for the forum???
If you want to quote the rules, you should interpret them as they are written. No where does it say "have good morals" and "dont bring the forum down to your level". I'm pretty sure it does say

Since you've gone to such great lengths to explain how this enterprise is going to benefit the community, and how anybody judging you is such a whiner, how about you explain the details?
Yeah I wanted to help people, but all the **** I got made me rethink the whole posting on the forum thing. I figured spilling more information will only get more people to chime in with their nasty nanny comments..... so I wasn't going to.
BUT since you asked, and you specifically were not one of the nannies (or atl east one that kept quiet.. i thank you!)... I would be happy to share the details.
I thought I would be able to kill it through software .. but it turns out bricking a phone intentionally is NOT an easy thing to do.
1) Pulling the battery is not enough to stop the flash. It will continue just fine on USB power only! Therefore I dont know how bad batteries could cause problems with flashing...
2) Stopping the flash of a ROM by pulling battery and USB almost always (for me, 10 out of 10 times) just causes the bootloader to complain "bad data" when you reset the phone, or something to that effect. You can reflash easily every time, I guess unless you stop it at the PERFECT moment ( I wasn't able to)
3) Stopping the flash of a Bootloader is absolutely impossible. I tried maybe 15 times (switching between stock SPL and the 1.90 SPL), but each time it loaded up just fine....
4) So,now getting desperate (Like I wasn't already...) I went to further measures. The stock battery is 3.7v DC. I applied 5 volts AC to the battery connector first, very quickly as fast as I could touch leads to the battery pins. Each time.. nothing happened and the phone booted fine.
So I stepped it up to 7.5, then 10. applying 10 v AC on the 3rd time was the charm. The LED flash blinked once very quickly, and then the phone ceased to turn on. I was nervous doing this.. I didnt want anything to physically fry. It turned out very well, it didnt get hot at all, no smoke and no burning smell.
Then I went to an AT&T store and turned it in for a new one. The guys there told me this wasnt the first time the Fuze came back completely dead!!! Imagine that.....
If the software bricking worked easily .. I planned on trying to recover it as a test case .. but alas it was damn tough. Thats also why I didnt really give many details.
This just goes to show everyone flashing your phone is really, really safe. I would say- flying in an airplane safe. When it fails, it does so rarely, and spectacularly and catastrophically... enough for all the media to hear about it (everyone on the forum). I wouldn't be worried tho, stepping on to a plane is just fine and chances are very good (you can round those chances to "always") it will work fine.. even if it screws up during the process some how.
So, GO FLASH THAT NEW ROM!!
A sincere thanks for the forum for putting up with an opinion/viewpoint that the majority clearly and rightfully disagrees with.
All I can say is WOW - what a mean thing to do; torture your phone like that. You could also have tried waterboarding, because in America that is not considered torture.

I have a warranty for my Fuze via ATT
So here's the deal... I'm really sick of taking my headphone adaptor with me everywhere, and I really love my modded iPhone headphones (I removed the standard earbuds and soldered my very nice Sony earbuds to them).
What I want to do (or should I say, what I'm going to do?) is open up my touch pro and find a nice spot to throw in a 3.5 mm headset port. Unfortunately I can't start today (I left my small screwdriver set at school) and I am wondering if there are any internal shots of the device.
Also, should I make a step by step guide on how to do this so others can attempt?
That would be pretty nuts. Where will you put it? Ideal would be right on top next to the speaker. Post pictures.
the place would be near the charing port....
I believe there are shots of the insides of a touch pro in the maintenence documents. I don't remember what their called specifically, but I know I saw them listed on either engadget or fuze mobility at one point in time. I have a copy actually, I just don't know where at on my comp :?
So here's the good news:
I've successfully found the documents on dissassembly of the Touch Pro and Disassembled the device.
I've also found a prime location for the headphone adaptor location, in the top right corner of the back side there is a nice spot, which with some small modifications should be able to seat the needed adaptor.
I know what to wire to which ports thanks to THIS thread.
This hack should work for the TV out reg hack if I assume correctly.
And here's the bad news:
My headphone bottom adaptor has had a wire break on the left headphone, but it should be an easy / cheap fix.
The locations where I need to solder are very small!
I'm not quite sure which ports on the inside are the corresponding ports on the other side, but I could probably figure that out with a volt-o-meter and some time.
So now it's a matter of me finding the bravery and time to do this
Good luck dude...
Yeh good luck. We look forward to seeing what happens next.
I'd love to see this, but probably wouldn't attempt it myself. Good luck though!
Oh, beautiful!
Let us stay up to date, mate.
Status report?
So today I went and looked at some better soldering tools and solder itself, it should work pretty well with my strategy to attempt this maneuver
Within 1-2 weeks this should be do-able!
That's good.
Maybe you could consider makeing photos while opening the phone? Especially of what exactly you are soldering?
That would be really nice, I'm really interested in this project.
If you can make this and it will work and if it won't destroy the beautiful design of the Touch Pro you would be a genious
It would be very nice too if you could make a step-by-step guide....
EDIT: Good Luck ;-)
Doing this today
I am about to do this very thing today and ran across this thread while trying to find the pinout schematics on the usb/charge port. I will try to take and post some pics of it as i go through the process.
If you are looking at the bottom of the phone, with the face turned up, there is room for the audio port just to the left of the usb jack, i plan to drill the hole right where the little usb symbol is at on mine. (vzw 6850).
Love this phone, the only irritation i have is the lack of an onboard audio port. I use mine as a net radio in the truck quite commonly, and I feel that the added weight of the dongle being on that USB port all the time will eventually damage the port,
More to come....
I got this project done. Got a decent pic set of the first part of it. I tried to BBcode the images in and got -

Alright. Apparently this specific phone has weird or messed up POGO pins. And I really need some help.
I've searched but can't find anyone with this issue.
There are supposed to be 5 pins total (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611116). On my phone, there are 5 positions, but the first (GND) is blocked off by the outer plastic of the case. I picked away the plastic to find no pin present, just a plastic stub from within the phone. And while I will (next week) be taking the phone apart to do multiple things (replace broken digitizer, & upgrade battery, replace back-door), surely someone knows something about this?
I ordered a Seidio Innocell case to further enhance my battery life. It is the version marked to support the AT&T variant. However it does not work. I would think that the GND connection is unnecessary to charge the battery (unsafely), so I can only assume that the 4 pins available are not as identified with other variants. Perhaps the 1st pin is dislodged by some means, though that does not explain the plastic covering it... Other than perhaps a manufacturer defect that I never noticed?
Can anyone assist?
Like I said I'll be opening it up soon, so I'll probably modify the back door to support this Innocell casing anyway. So any information would be useful as to what might be going wrong here.
*EDIT:
I can confirm after picking away more plastic, that there IS indeed the 1st pin (you can see it in attached image if you look closely), and that my phone was poorly manufactured. The pin is shoved beneath the casing due to lack of clearance when it was assembled. No wonder. Charging still does not work, so I'm wondering if there is a way I can manually test these two pins (#1 & #5) for charging capabilities? 5v battery and two wires perhaps?

My apologies, first time posting. I read the posting stickies, and did not think to post it in the appropriate location.
This phone was purchased from Walmart, with the related AT&T contract. One month before they released the OneX+, what luck.
My battery is at post office now, should arrive later today. I'll install and update my post, though I believe I'll be solving my own problem & answering my own question soon enough. Completion sake, anyways. The pins do work, i sent voltage through it using a multimeter, and android notified me I was using an invalid charging apparatus (incorrect mwa i guess? was @1.5v). SO that's good news I suppose.
Wow, I've never seen a new Evita with such a serious manufacturing defect like that. You should swap it out under warranty.

Haha i know right. I just opened it up, all 5 pins are available on the motherboard's bottom connector(radio/pogo/buttonLEDs). But indeed, they did not properly cut the 1st pin's plastic. Nor did they insert the actual pogo pin on it, which are both back-door flaws. Back-door assembly line failure - lol Sounds dirty.
Well all is well now. I used a HOX+ back-door instead, cause the red on black looks nice. SO I didn't have to rig my own graphite onto the plastic. All 5 pins working perfectly. Attached some photos so you guys can see what I mean. Take care all, this issue is now resolved
Hoping they have these so we don't have to take the phone out everytine
That was my first question when i see G5
A thread for ALL case discussion has already been started here. One thread for cases is good for now.
Thread closed,
Thank you
In the past week, this phone has stopped enabling "fast charge" and now, it takes all day (literally) to charge the phone. Also, battery draining is quite rapid (IMO). I've had the phone 2 months now and it's starting to have other issues as well. I have a question.... is it possible that a minor crack in the screen would have anything to do with the charging issues? BTW, the crack developed within 10 days of purchase. I did not drop the phone but perhaps, may have sat on it while in back pocket, but I question this for it's "supposed" the have Gorilla glass3 and I would think it would be more resistant to cracking in such a manner? Anyway, looking for answer, mostly, to charging issue. THANX Rick

If you put your whole body weight on the phone while bending it (that is, having it in your back pocket while sitting), why are you surprised that it cracked? Sturdy doesn't mean indestructible. And you were asking about custom roms for that phone so if you did something wrong in that regard it wouldn't be surprising if you had problems. Return it for a new one, if they will even take it back. They cover defects not abuse so don't be shocked if they tell you that its your problem.
RE: pwilson33(why does that sound familiar?)
I guess your not aware of durability of Gorilla glass 3, as touted by the manufacturer. But, I'll do some more "checking" and ask them(Gorilla Glass). Funny thing, the phone started charging, in reasonable time frame, albeit without "fast charge". Leads me to believe it's the charger(?). That too, I'll check out with a dealer. I was asking about a ROM. Haven't employed one as yet. Going to inquire at Samsung if it would be alright to revert to Android 9 so that I can continue to use the FM receiver. Strange...but had no problems until a few weeks after "upgrading" to Android 10

Guess you're not familiar with things breaking if you put too much stress on them. You can't go back to 9 unless you root the phone and load a custom ROM which voids the warranty, so you're then out of luck for a warranty replacement for the phone you broke.
Personally I'd not trust a battery that had been bent enough to crack the phone. But you obviously know everything, so have fun.

My fast charging works fine if I use the proper charger and a short lead.
Did you do a reset after updating? Lots of issues the pop up after an update are due to leftover data messing with things.

I didn't say it wasn't ok did I? I said I wouldn't trust it and I wouldn't. Like said, if you bent it enough to crack the screen a LiOn battery could get the foil exposed and it would go up. Was there a word that was too hard for you?
And if you want to have a comment "blown out of the water", what about your junk regarding gorilla glass? Yea, I'm sure you have NEVER EVER heard of ANYONE BREAKING THEIR SCREEN BEFORE, RIGHT?
Want FM Radio on A10? Nextradio app in the play store. And before you moan about anything, your radio working has nothing to do with Android, but what the firmware allows from the vendor.

Try again. NextRadio works fine on A10, and have it installed and working. Since you appear to have trouble reading, note the part about the firmware on the phone, and some vendors disabling it. If its disabled it doesn't work with any app. And spouting off about it being gorilla glass is supposed to mean what? Or are you seriously trying to say that NO ONE HAS EVER BROKEN THEIR PHONE SCREEN since gorilla glass came out? Because if they have I obviously know more about the possibility of it breaking than you do.
And I'm pretty confident that I've seen many broken phones of all types. Maybe you should get out more.
I've not found an app that can access the FM chipset. Next Radio is defunct now and doesn't work on And. 10. I'm going to mark this thread closed...as soon as I find the proper "tool" to do so.

Love how you ignore what you don't feel like answering. Can't wait for your follow up where you insult people and act like you're 9, because you don't have any rational responses.
NextRadio is not 'defunct', and received an update not too long ago. And again it works fine on A10. Did you not understand when you were told very, VERY simply (maybe not simply enough for you, though), that unless your provider ALLOWS that feature to be turned on, it won't work no matter what the app??
And can't you answer the simple question of whether or not you've ever heard of someone dropping their phone and breaking the (in your mind) ABSOLUTELY UNBREAKABLE gorilla glass, that you claim to know all about?
