Battery drain after take 4.4.4 kk update... - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone, took the update to Android 4.4.4. The battery life is significantly worse then it was before on 4.4. I am only able to get about 10-12 hours on the battery with light use (3-4 hours of screen time.) Is anyone else having this issue? I am watching my battery and the culprit seems to be my screen at around 30-40%. But I have the auto-brightness off and screen time out at 15 seconds after inactivity. Anyone having this issue and have any idea on how yo fix it? I upgraded from stock 4.4 and am not rooted or unlocked.

Your android system usage seems high. I've had the update a few days and I'm running consistently at 7%

Any ideas on what I could do to fix this? Factory reset, anything of the such?

Android OS is using 40% of battery

Yesterday my Nexus 5 lost 55% of the battery in 3 hrs in a weak signal area (Using AT&T). Android OS was using 60% of the battery. Today after a fresh charge it has a good signal and Android OS is at 40% battery consumption and continuing to climb. I have done a reset of the phone since I didn't have much on it and it's back to the same behavior again. What is going on here?
I'm having serious doubts about keeping this phone and buying a Moto X
I'm now attempting to put the phone in airplane mode and using GrooveIP while at home (maybe 3 bars is to low for it for a signal before it kills the battery?) That's not normal. I have to decide quickly if I'm going to keep this phone or opt for a Moto X

You should first troubleshoot the problem instead of thinking of buying other phones. I would suggest factory restoring and monitoring things. Use betterbatterystats and see what exactly is slurping battery.

I've reset it and even with nothing else installed it does the same. It's always the Android OS using it.
Get Wakelock Detector from Play and set the option to monitor the OS. Check it after a few hours and see if suspend_backoff is the culprit under kernel wakelocks.
If so, it is disturbing Google hasn't fixed this in 4.4. It has been an issue for quite some time.

Battery Drain For KitKat 4.4.2

Anyone encountered battery draining after updated to KitKat XXUENA6 via software update

Think it just needs a couple of battery cycles to even itself out.

I'm getting some decent battery life - about 20% more per day, for my average usage (ending the day around 65%), than stock (rooted). I'm running Omega v7.1.
As suggested, give it a few cycles.

yes, I have,
I found it's because the EMail sync, if I disabled mail sync battery life is better.
I have problem with my android system, it's drain more battery than my screen on.
I just installed BBS, Gsam Battery Monitor, and Watchdog but I can't get the infromation what did android system do with my battery
Anyone can help me ?
Since 4.4.2, leaving my phone overnight would drain 0% battery (or sometimes, very rarely, 1%).
I'm using Greenify (I Greenify everything except WhatsApp and Nova Launcher) and on a typical school day I can end up with between 50%-60% of battery.
The more draining things I disabled include Google's location reporting service and always-on WiFi scanning. Perhaps you may check
Battery life is really bad , not as good as it used to be , certainly not as good as my Stock Note 2 was!!!!!!!... please any suggestions?
Nothing works, tried all the tips around here (except for rooting), before kitkat (on jelly bean mj7) I used to have that annoying android os bug, when I received kitkat, the bug was resolved but got replaced by another unexplaicable drain by "android system" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
" android system " and " media " drain are too Damn high... 2 hard resets didn't even help at all.... And I'm on the gsm only mode with gps off all the time.......
I'm really getting fed up with Samsung and their crap software , this is my third note device and the most buggy one... and it's really getting ridiculous ...
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Cheers.
All in necessary bloatware disabled. Sync on. Olways with wifi in home or 3g out. Locations disabled. Amazing battery life .

Same here. My Android System is next to the screen with 30%
Gesendet von meinem SM-N9005 mit Tapatalk
mine is at 20 %. screen at 18 % haha . still got 4 hours of on screen time with H+ on all the time , autosync , and semi debloated ( as much as possible without root ). No location or freaky stuff.
have problem with the Android System also. I'm now at 25%, Android System 37%, Screen 24% (2h57m). Location, Sync off. Hope someone can help with this. Thanks.
Same here, android system is the second consumer after the display. Very bad battery life after kit kat. On 4.3 i was getting 2 days easy and now under the same condition i get 1 day.

Hmm are you on ORO? I'm from bucharest too but let's talk English here
Anyway mine today seems stabilised. Android system is the second one now but still kinda high...
I'm on NC2 now. I have an unbranded phone and i tried all firmwares from sammobile, some with full wipe and still have battery drain. I even began to get rid of some apps but i don't think it is app related. I had exatly the same apps on 4.3 with much better battery life.
Having horrible battery life with my Note 3 after the update. The android system shows up using 50%.... It's been 4 hrs off the charger and I'm already down to 70% battery life. Just horrible.
I have a question for everyone who's suffering from the battery drain in KitKat and who seem to have Android System at the top of the list constantly:
Do you by any chance have a service called gsiff_daemon as a major cause for battery drain? You should be able to check this with Better Battery Stats or Gsam Battery Monitor apps.
I'm just trying to find out something and I could be wrong but it would be good to hear from people who have a draining battery.

[Q] Terrible Battery Life After Root

I recently rooted my Nexus 5 and flashed stock clockworkmod. Since doing that I have noticed my battery is dying incredibly fast. I could get through a whole day on a full charge and now it's down to about half that. According to the battery stats the screen and system is taking up the most time. The screen has been on 2 hours and only been off charger for 6 and the battery is currently at 20%. I have tried a few battery calibration apps and such but nothing seems to fix the problem. Had a similar problem with the Samsung GS3 after rooting...any tips to get better battery life after root and not worse? Thanks!
P.S. Also been running greenify root for apps that don't need constant internet access.

Many users claim to get great battery life with the Franco Kernel. They say its better than stock.
Disclaimer: I'm 100% stock and unrooted so I can't vouch.

For us to help you post screenshots of your better battery stats logs.
Which method did you use for root? I don't think rooting actually causes a drain in battery life but I could be wrong
Just rooting won't have any impact on battery. Could be apps that you installed.
Had the same issue as well with Franco kernel. Started from scratch, meaning unroot, lock. Then unlocked and rooted again. Performed factory reset and installed app by app. Took a few days but battery life is good now.

Bad battery life on my recent Nexus 5

Hello,
I got a second Nexus 5 after my first one suddenly developed a modem fault and refused to work in 2G areas. This time, I got one in red, used, manufactured in March 2014. The phone is in great condition and is as good as new.
Problem is, the battery life is really bad. I'm on stock rom with ElementalX 1.12 and despite undervolting by -25 on all frequencies, my battery life is as shown in the images below. I easily got 3.5-4 hours of SOT with some 15-20% battery remaining on my previous Nexus 5 which I got in December 2013. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the only phone I can afford right now and I'll have to live with this purchase till at least next year. Thank you.
P.S: I'm down to 22% within the last 30 minutes with an extra 10 minutes of SoT while doing nothing but keeping the screen active.
How's your signal?
Signal is generally good. I was travelling to a remote location today hence the poorer signal but on any day, my battery is pretty much the same. Especially now that I'm back home with a solid signal, it's still dropping battery.

your battery is fine. the longer you go without charging, the shorter amount of screen time youre gonna get. im a heavy user, and use up my battery within 10 hours, but i see 5h sot every day. you are using closer to 24 hours but are seeing 3.5-4h sot. i see nothing wrong with your battery. lower your brightness some and youll see better battery. keep your brightness around 20%.
20 hours, 33% remaining, what's the issue? 3hrs SoT is what is to be expected without reducing the settings that drain your battery. A small undervolt and custom kernel aren't going to affect your run time noticeably, so you've actually yet to do anything significant to increase battery life. That would require adjusting settings to maximize run time.
For more information, see the battery help thread.

Hello,
I am using nexus 5 for couple of days now. Recently I am getting this running process "mm-qcamera-daemon" which is eating 31% of my battery life. (Check my screenshots attached) which is even greater than screen % of about 16% only.
The battery drains real quick. Even though I reboot the phone,it doesn't work.
I also keep getting error message of "cannot connect to camera".

reboot to get rid of the battery loss. and where did you buy your n5? and is a warrenty exchange possible? since your having camera issues as well. you can try going to the main settings, apps, yhen find the camera app and clear its data.
Hi simms22,
I cleared the app data and rebooted. But still same mm-qcamera-daemon is still there eating up my 31% battery.
Is that a bug or issue with my ROM??
I bought it from 3rd person so no exchange possible.
Should I be worried about my battery??

it could be a bug with the rom you are running, if its a custom rom. if so, id flash the factory img first. btw, which version of android is running? anyways, if after flashing the factory img it still happens, i suspect a hardware issue if your camera is not working. so, after a full run, it uses that much battery or is that only in the very beginning, when you just start using after unplugging?

ok, then you just have the normal bug with the daemon. after using the cam, reboot. and that should keep it from appearing mostly.

Having some issues in Android 5.0

Hey guys,
I'm running the Cataclysm ROM Android L build LRX21O, with Franco kernel r68. My battery drain is massive; and adaptive brightness is pissing me off. I used the NRT to flash the Stock Android L first, but it had so much lag that the icons on the home screen took their sweet time to pop up, and of course the battery drain. Two days ago I flashed Cataclysm hoping it would solve my problems. The lag is gone and I'm happy about that, battery drain is still pretty bad. I went down from 100% to 87% in only 45 mins and the stock battery stat app says "about 5 hrs. left."
Second, the adaptive brightness makes the screen so dark when I'm using the phone at a certain angle, for instance while typing this post. Same thing happens while I'm outside and I can't see anything!
Anything to solve these problems will be appreciated. I've gone thru reddit posts and XDA but to no avail.
