Anyone encountered battery draining after updated to KitKat XXUENA6 via software update

Think it just needs a couple of battery cycles to even itself out.

I'm getting some decent battery life - about 20% more per day, for my average usage (ending the day around 65%), than stock (rooted). I'm running Omega v7.1.
As suggested, give it a few cycles.

yes, I have,
I found it's because the EMail sync, if I disabled mail sync battery life is better.
I have problem with my android system, it's drain more battery than my screen on.
I just installed BBS, Gsam Battery Monitor, and Watchdog but I can't get the infromation what did android system do with my battery
Anyone can help me ?
Since 4.4.2, leaving my phone overnight would drain 0% battery (or sometimes, very rarely, 1%).
I'm using Greenify (I Greenify everything except WhatsApp and Nova Launcher) and on a typical school day I can end up with between 50%-60% of battery.
The more draining things I disabled include Google's location reporting service and always-on WiFi scanning. Perhaps you may check
Battery life is really bad , not as good as it used to be , certainly not as good as my Stock Note 2 was!!!!!!!... please any suggestions?
Nothing works, tried all the tips around here (except for rooting), before kitkat (on jelly bean mj7) I used to have that annoying android os bug, when I received kitkat, the bug was resolved but got replaced by another unexplaicable drain by "android system" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
" android system " and " media " drain are too Damn high... 2 hard resets didn't even help at all.... And I'm on the gsm only mode with gps off all the time.......
I'm really getting fed up with Samsung and their crap software , this is my third note device and the most buggy one... and it's really getting ridiculous ...
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Cheers.
All in necessary bloatware disabled. Sync on. Olways with wifi in home or 3g out. Locations disabled. Amazing battery life .

Same here. My Android System is next to the screen with 30%
Gesendet von meinem SM-N9005 mit Tapatalk
mine is at 20 %. screen at 18 % haha . still got 4 hours of on screen time with H+ on all the time , autosync , and semi debloated ( as much as possible without root ). No location or freaky stuff.
have problem with the Android System also. I'm now at 25%, Android System 37%, Screen 24% (2h57m). Location, Sync off. Hope someone can help with this. Thanks.
Same here, android system is the second consumer after the display. Very bad battery life after kit kat. On 4.3 i was getting 2 days easy and now under the same condition i get 1 day.

Hmm are you on ORO? I'm from bucharest too but let's talk English here
Anyway mine today seems stabilised. Android system is the second one now but still kinda high...
I'm on NC2 now. I have an unbranded phone and i tried all firmwares from sammobile, some with full wipe and still have battery drain. I even began to get rid of some apps but i don't think it is app related. I had exatly the same apps on 4.3 with much better battery life.
Having horrible battery life with my Note 3 after the update. The android system shows up using 50%.... It's been 4 hrs off the charger and I'm already down to 70% battery life. Just horrible.
I have a question for everyone who's suffering from the battery drain in KitKat and who seem to have Android System at the top of the list constantly:
Do you by any chance have a service called gsiff_daemon as a major cause for battery drain? You should be able to check this with Better Battery Stats or Gsam Battery Monitor apps.
I'm just trying to find out something and I could be wrong but it would be good to hear from people who have a draining battery.

Hi there,
is someone having high battery drain with JB? Haven't updated yet but I read some posts about massive screen battery usage.. thanks!
My battery is draining so fast since I've updated to JB ... I'm thinking of downgrading to ICS
No problems here. I have updated from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1 through Clockworkmod recovery.
The phone is getting so hot and the battery is quickly drained :'(

Same. And my 4.0.4 install was relatively clean (had flashed the original factory images and only installed very few apps)
In ics i have some drain, here in Jelly Bean and dont have for now, see if Not is a app draining, Because isnt optimize for the New system..
Compared to stock ICS I have some battery drain in stock JB. Battery stats say it's the screen. I have model i9023.

I've been on JB for about 24 hours, having the same (if not higher) use of the phone, and it seems that there's no "big drain" at all.
No drain at all for me.
For me its good... almost 17 hrs n still 31% battery with 2 hrs of screen on (mostly browsing).
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
It's not JB that cause the battery drain but the new features that come with it.
The biggest single cause of battery drain is Google Now. Why?
- it causes Maps/Location services to be running at all times (20 % total battery drain in my case)
- it causes Google calendar to be running almost all the time
- etc
tl;dr; With Google Now enabled expect battery time to drop by 1/3.
Phone getting hot is usually a rouge app, but if you're actually using the phone, the screen will ALWAYS be your top consumer of battery. No way around it.
My screen is using up a lot more battery than on 4.0.4. Just checked my battery now, after being off the charger for 2 hours and Maps has been eating up battery. Mine also gets quite hot when using it. After some mildly heavy use last night, it slowed down to a crawl.
I'm sure Google Now is helping to use a lot of battery too. Isn't this always the way it goes anyway? I had the reboots during a phone call on GB, etc. It takes a couple updates for them to get it just right. Hope 4.1.2 doesn't take too long.

I came to the same conclusion; however I have disabled Google Now (since it is not well supported in my country) and Latitude (that has been enabled following the update) but still, battery is draining ...
As someone said earlier, battery seems to be the same while in sleep mode; but when you're using the phone it's a disaster compared to ICS.
Yeah. More than likely Google Now, but what do people expect? It's feature heavy! I for one use Autostarts(root only) for Maps and a few others that like to just fire up for some random action taken by the user. I used GN for a bit but I don't find myself ever really using it on a daily basis.
absolutely NO drain here!

I wasn't expecting anything besides being able to CASUALLY use my phone during the day, at least send a few text messages before battery dies, which seems to be impossible since the update.
I haven't actually used my phone normally yet, but what type of life are you expecting out of the phone? If you're clearing 10 hours, I'd say that's good territory. Is your phone being constantly held awake? Just crying battery drain without giving any details won't help us help you determine the issue. This phone has never had what I would call great battery management for what my usage pattern has always been. Post a screenshot of your next usage pattern and maybe I or somebody else can help you.
Hi folks,
since some days my battery drives me crazy...
Last week i flashed CM10 by nk111. Nice ROM, but my battery lasted only for some hours with normal usage. So I went back to MIUI...problem stayed.
Yesterday I flashed Jellytime and replaced the battery. The problem stayed as well. At 6 pm battery was full, I restored my apps with Titanium, used it a bit and when I was going to bed at 10 p.m. battery was 81%. Getting up at 5:30 this morning --> battery was 41%.
After the battery was full yesterday night I used display for maybe 10 minutes, why there are 36% battery usage by th display?
WTF happened to my system by flashing CM10 by nk111???
Any help is appreciated!

First, do you have Google now on. It really drains the battery. If that doesn't help install better battery stats and let it go through a couple of cycles, it will help you pinpoint if any apps or wakelocks are draining your battery.

app called carat could also help you find the battery sucking thing. It's a bit more simple than battery stats, you'll like it if you're not an expert.
it doesn't need to be a new app that is sucking power, it could be the poorly made update of some app that you're using for a long time.
I installed both apps.
But in both I can't find any kind of statistics about consumed power by apps or something similar, am I that stupid?

Bbs needs to run for at least a full battery cycle to give you a clear picture, if recommend running it for at least a day

I get max 24 hours battery life , sometimes 12 hours , so it's not something to worry. If you speak 2-3 hours and WiFi on another 2-3 hours that is the battery în my case 12 hours max.

IT IS something to worry, cause battery behaviour changed dramatically while I didn't change my usage of the phone.
40% battery loss over night should be a clear indication of abnormal behaviour.

you must run carot a day or two, than it will display some apps on the first page and the approximate battery life you get if you kill them. read the manual also..
Yesterday in the evening I realized a 96% entry in the Partial Wavelocks section - AndroidMediaScanner. I freezed it (I know where my pictures and music is located...), did a full load on the battery and for 4 hours the battery remained at 100%. I really thought the problem is solved...but in the morning...31%
But - the 'Media' entry in the android accu stats is gone, I think this is a partial success.
In the BBS app, there is no remarkable value - the biggest is 3,8%.
When I watch the graphs - WiFi and Awake is nearly completetly blue over the whole night (unfortunately, I can't take screenshots right now for any reason).
I'm a bit helpless right now, will charge the phone now and keep an eye on BBS the next hours/days.
androidmediascanner shouldn't be the bad guy, it's a system app that we all have. maybe your battery is the problem...

I inserted a new battery last week without any change. Don't think both batteries are broken.
The common way to solve this is to do a fresh install. Leave it for a day without any apps yo see if it is ROM related. See if the battery life improve. Install one app per day and monitor your phone awake period with screen on, it should be almost same.

Yesterday night I made a full wipe, installed Jellytime and Gapps and went to sleep...
In the morning --> 67%.
Very odd, normally this would probably indicating a defect battery, but it is new!
Maybe a hardware defect?
Maybe RRU Problem?
Hi,
I have a similar problem here. I was using the desire s for a long timne with stock rom (2.x android), a full battery was enough for ~2 days. Then I rooted the device and installed CM10 (NK111 alpha build).
2 things changed:
The battery is empty after 24h or less.
The wireless network is worse than before. This is my subjective impression but there are places at home or in the office where wifi worked before and stopped working.
I'm starting excessive tests (disabling everything, removing apps, running carat) during xmas holidays to find the reason.
My guess what it might be: to root the device I did a downgrade, including a radio downgrade. Now I run baseband 20.23.30.0802U_38.02.01.11 which is known as "Saga Test RUU" and has the lowest version number of the RRUs listed in the forum. I did not found anything about this in the forum or with google but maybe this is the reason.
My average battery stats with normal use (whole day, used the phone a few minutes):
~30% Display
~25% Wifi
~17% Mobile Standby
~5% Android Os
For comparison, my Motorola Defy has in a similar scenario ~5% Wifi and ~3% Mobile Standby
Hello,
I got a second Nexus 5 after my first one suddenly developed a modem fault and refused to work in 2G areas. This time, I got one in red, used, manufactured in March 2014. The phone is in great condition and is as good as new.
Problem is, the battery life is really bad. I'm on stock rom with ElementalX 1.12 and despite undervolting by -25 on all frequencies, my battery life is as shown in the images below. I easily got 3.5-4 hours of SOT with some 15-20% battery remaining on my previous Nexus 5 which I got in December 2013. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the only phone I can afford right now and I'll have to live with this purchase till at least next year. Thank you.
P.S: I'm down to 22% within the last 30 minutes with an extra 10 minutes of SoT while doing nothing but keeping the screen active.
How's your signal?
Signal is generally good. I was travelling to a remote location today hence the poorer signal but on any day, my battery is pretty much the same. Especially now that I'm back home with a solid signal, it's still dropping battery.

your battery is fine. the longer you go without charging, the shorter amount of screen time youre gonna get. im a heavy user, and use up my battery within 10 hours, but i see 5h sot every day. you are using closer to 24 hours but are seeing 3.5-4h sot. i see nothing wrong with your battery. lower your brightness some and youll see better battery. keep your brightness around 20%.
20 hours, 33% remaining, what's the issue? 3hrs SoT is what is to be expected without reducing the settings that drain your battery. A small undervolt and custom kernel aren't going to affect your run time noticeably, so you've actually yet to do anything significant to increase battery life. That would require adjusting settings to maximize run time.

Hello,
I am using nexus 5 for couple of days now. Recently I am getting this running process "mm-qcamera-daemon" which is eating 31% of my battery life. (Check my screenshots attached) which is even greater than screen % of about 16% only.
The battery drains real quick. Even though I reboot the phone,it doesn't work.
I also keep getting error message of "cannot connect to camera".

reboot to get rid of the battery loss. and where did you buy your n5? and is a warrenty exchange possible? since your having camera issues as well. you can try going to the main settings, apps, yhen find the camera app and clear its data.
Hi simms22,
I cleared the app data and rebooted. But still same mm-qcamera-daemon is still there eating up my 31% battery.
Is that a bug or issue with my ROM??
I bought it from 3rd person so no exchange possible.
Should I be worried about my battery??

it could be a bug with the rom you are running, if its a custom rom. if so, id flash the factory img first. btw, which version of android is running? anyways, if after flashing the factory img it still happens, i suspect a hardware issue if your camera is not working. so, after a full run, it uses that much battery or is that only in the very beginning, when you just start using after unplugging?

I am really excited for upgrading my x play to marshmallow 6.0 from lollipop but after using it a while i am facing very less battery backup on marshmallow as compared to lollipop I merely get 3 hours of Screen On time and the battery last for 15-16 hours on normal usage. Is anyone else facing this problem !!
if you are rooted , try amplify and greenify, it helps a lot. you could also try to edit doze settings to make the device sleep faster than google intended.
mine Sot was reduced after MM, so i started tweaking doze and installed Greenify+Amlipfy. Now i get approx 50min-1hr SOT per 10%. i am not a heavy user, i do lots of browsing and whatsapp on data and i get around 6 hours SOT from 100-40%..never have drained the whole battery ..i guess it'll go beyond 10hour.[as battery saver kicks in at 15%].

if you need good battery then you have to cut down core functions according to your use.
I need the phone for whatapp and browsing so I turned off pretty much everything else like app auto-update I don't need Google to search every 30min if a new version is available, turned off NFC when I am not using.
@Himalaya saxena are you on stock rom or which one ? Check battery usage in System / Battery menu and report it. If you want people trying to help you please be more accurate and provide some detailed information and evidence.

NFC only uses little power. I keep it on all the time and still manage to get 6-7 hours SOT for every full charge
bluetooth is using extremely small amount of battery, too
it has LE profiles, so no need to turn it off, if someone is wondering about that
It seems there are quite few people with battery issues around... My phone lasts around 16hrs too, with everything pretty much turned off and very moderate use. No games, no videos, no music, no Facebook, no IMs. Just some Chrome, phone calls etc. My 2 year old Nexus 5 would last just as much, which is kinda laughable, given battery, SoC and age difference...

settings > battery and then clicking the three dots on top right > battery optimisation
Check that are apps getting optimised.
Also one more thing, By going to
Security > apps with usage access (at bottom) > Turn off the usage access of the apps there (would be play store and play services)
Do click the three dots on top right and touch the show system and another app named "motocareint" would show up. Turn it's usage access off also.
After doing all this, charge your device to 100 percent and then use normally till it hits 10 percent. Then share your battery stats.

thanks for the tweak will report it back
Here's another issue: Roughly one hour after unplugging, used it at home, within WiFi range. Only Chrome and Tapatalk, 45mins SOT. 9% battery missing, but only 3% showing up here.
Edit: With time, the gap between actual battery status, and per-app usage stats gets bigger and bigger. Here's @ 70%, with app usage only giving 19% altogether.

Hi,
It has been a week since i bought my s7. I was not quite pleased with the battery life. It was just ok. But now it is getting worse.
battery is 10% at the time of writing this.
Total usage is 22 hours
Screen on time is 3 hours
Android system is taking 23% battery
Screen 19 %
Facebook 17 %
Is this normal? I was expecting atleast 4 to 5 hours SOT?
I have the AOD turned on. Sync is always off. I dont even have the mobile data turned on. I mostly use wifi for facebook and browsing.
Any suggestions on how to improve it?
Aod takes 1% in 1 hour. Facebook takes too much but its known issue. Facebook knows that too and making fix right now. You can disable and enable it and then it will be ok.

Though I own a S7 Edge, the following is from my experience with Note II & S2. I am not facing this with S7 Edge.
When I get a new device or get updates, I do a factory reset and start over. Just clearing the cache doesn't help.
I am using Package Disabler Pro to disable apps when not required and it doesn't require root access.

Disable aod. Aod doesn't let doze kick in. So idle drain with AOD is 2-3% per hr.

Hello, I'd like some help about battery drain too.
I've been using my S7 for 4 months and never made factory reset after the OTA updates.
Today, for example, the battery level fell down from 100 to 43% in 6 hours.
I've taken some screenshots from battery usage screen and the items described inside de Android System item, which is the most drainer one.
If you could give me your thoughts and forgive my poor English, I'd appreciate!
I had the complete opposite to you, well in the first few weeks anyways. It would take like an hour to kill like 3% and I left my phone at 60% once, left it overnight without charge and only dropped 2% - This was the case a number of times
Fjesuino. I wiped my cache, and the battery time did improve a little. Try it out, it might work. But i think there is something wrong with your device android system and sd shouldn't be that high.

Thanks, i just got rid of fb for now. Will use stock browser. But i kinda like AOD, so i am keeping it on for a while. Anyways i wiped my cache and the battery has improved.
Its 40% now with 2 hours 50 min SOT including an hour of 4g browsing/downloading

S7 Exynos and back then I didn't really use AOD. It wouldn't be fair to show battery usage right now though as I'm using quite a heavy custom kernel.
As well as all the other tips you're getting above, I'd recommend flashing the Hydra ROM onto your phone as there are a lot of features to save battery. It ports to the Note 7 and you get features like reducing screen resolution, reduce background processes, it's even got its own RAM manager.
Personally, I don't see the battery as that much of an issue though and I do bash my phone a lot through the day as well.
Have you got a lot of apps installed? Do you have a SD?

If you're willing to void your warranty you can install a debloated touchwiz rom that will increase your battery life alot

The phones here in pakistan are mostly "smuggled" or imported. I have an imported one from canada g930w8, so it's without warranty.
But i dont want to root it, i have used many custom roms on previous android devices. i personally dont like third party ROMs that much. So i'll just debloat the current one.
Thanks for your suggestion ?
