[Q] Cracked Screen, need some advice - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Maxx DE here.
So im an idiot and had a few too many and dropped my phone real hard on the sidewalk and cracked the screen. Its my fault, she went down hard and now had a few small cracks thru the screen. Normally I wouldnt mind, as they are not too noticable, but it seems to have split right through the capacitive buttons down at the bottom of the phone. This is now causing issues with those buttons functioning properly.
I have successfully disabled them and gotten the phone working with on screen nav buttons, but i am still seeing slight issues with the performance of the screen. Mainly i believe because even though the buttons now do not control anything, the phone still can see they are being touched. (my symptoms are the screen will not timeout sometimes, as well as increased battery drain i think from the registering of all the button presses from the crack). Otherwise the screen works fine.
I have been reading up on a few options. Moto wants 200 buckos to repair the phone. I have found the lens/overlay for the screen/digitizer but i have been watching youtubes, and it seems pretty difficult to properly remove the LOCA glue and reapply the new lens, especially for someone who has never repaired a phone before.
So my question to you guys is, has anyone ever just repaired the lens/overlay and had successes? Should i just pony up the 200 and have Moto fix my phone? Are there any reputable repair shops in NYC that members have used (I hear a lot of horror stories about these screen repair places and am hesitant about just trying one out)?
Thanks!

I would send to Moto. Little cash no more worrying about it, don't have ship around for days, don't have to ask a lot of ?, and I know it was done right with original parts not some knock off our quality no name parts. But that's me, my sanity and time is worth the money to me.

Ya, thats what i have been leaning towards more and more, as i research and look at parts. Seems the safe way for self-repair is to buy the whole front LCD+Glass assembly, which in that case is like 20 bucks cheaper.
It just seems redic to me that asurion does not cover developer editions which is crazy since i have been paying for that insurance for the past year. It would have been nice of them to tell me that my phone wasnt covered when i activated it.

Yeah no kidding. If was paying for the insurance on a phone that wasn't covered I would throw a fit to get refunded. That's like getting a car loan only to find out it's not for your car.

Well, you can always use ebay, they're like 180 dollar and it includes lcd/digitzer and frame, it should be easy... These droids are relative easy to fix.

Yeah, i was thinking that, but for $20 more I will prob just send it to moto for piece of mind that the repair will be done right and backed by them.

Touch panel- fail

So the one time I decide to take the thundy out the case I drop it getting out of the car. I pick it up and its non responsive, can't get past HTC green/white screen. I tried holding vol down and I went into system info. It says touch panel- fail?!? Did I really toast this thing in one drop?
Ouch buddy let us know how it goes that makes me cringe as I always rock my phones naked, well except the nexus one neoprene that i have used on both incredibles and the nexus one I own. Wish it was big enough for my Thunderbolt that case has saved my ass a couple times
So Jcase helped me flash back to stock and it now says S-On in bootloader but I still can't get past HTC logo. I think it dropped just right and broke the screen. Be careful if your running your phone without a case guys, Im a good example. First drop, ruined the screen! Now I have to wait for a replacement to get shipped.
ok so I got the $5.18/ month insurance from Verizon, they tried to offer a $6.99/month plan that adds a 6 month warranty to the exchange and then took it back saying you cant with the thunderbolt.
So my question is should I just tell them I lost the phone and get to keep the battery, sd card, and possibly fix the touch screen later to put it on Metro PCS? Verizon says they cover lost phones, does anyone know if I will have more trouble if my phone is lost versus broken?
Also if its broken is there anyway of getting out of the $100 deductible?
Anyone know if I have to wait a day after adding insurance or any trouble I will run into with this?
So you would tell them you lost it even though you dropped it?

Ill admit its sneaky, but to be honest Im mad that this phone didn't hold up better. The battery casing popped off relatively easy when it was dropped which was its downfall. Now I have to pay $100 and Im just supposed to be ok with this?
If Verizon still had a 30 day policy I could just take it to them but they are tightening the reigns.
Pics to follow showing light damage
Here are the pics
The only damage cosmetically to the phone is the nick on the corner and a scratch to the camera lens bezel that I can't really get to show up in a picture. Phone looks pristine, yet isn't worth more than a brick.
You can justify all you want but it doesn't make it right. Good luck

Your right this phone is built to withstand nothing. Seems weird that 15 days after the bolt's release verizon is changing all their return policy rules.
Also no extended warranty available for the replacement, when they are offering it on other devices. I think I will keep this phone as my own insurance policy..
I ended up using best buy black tie program because they gave me a phone on the spot. I didn't say I lost it, just gave them the broken phone. I was pretty frustrated yesterday when my TB failed!
Just brick it and say you downloaded an application and it shut off your phone and thats what came up
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Well I got it the 15th so Im outside of verizon's 14 day policy. Your saying if I dont tell them I dropped it they might replace the phone? You cant even tell I dropped it, the best buy lady was like why is your phone so useless? (its basically already bricked but now S-On, only going to boot screen)
Anyone try replacing a digitizer yet? Best Buy wants 30 days, plus 5 days for shipping, plus x amount of extra days cause their system was down for replacements....Im just getting so lucky, lol. I was hoping they were doing the 3 day rapid exchange, only on crapple phones though.
Link for $40 digitizer- http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/39....zer-for-htc-thunderbolt-4g-incredible-hd-6400
This will void my warranty huh?
Correct me if im wrong as I have not actually seen a TB disassembled but is it possible that a pin connection just jolted loose? I mean it seems must more feasible in my opinion..
That is always possible. I have seen it b4. My wife has a plasma tv that just quit the day after bestbuy return policy. They were gonna send a tech, but it was gonna be a week or more. So I pulled it off the wall and tore into it. They never pushed the lock down on the ribbon cable! Been fine ever since.

If I were you Id tell them the screen simply "Just Stopped working". From the looks of it nothing is cracked or broken so they couldent claim you did it.
I know, I know. Im a horrible dishonest person who makes things expensive and make people kill themselves.
So let me get this right. You were cheap so you didn't buy a case. Then YOU dropped it onto cement and expected to just pick it up and it to work fine. Then you go to Verizon and tell them you lost it so you can get a new phone plus keep the old one you know the one that YOU dropped. You are so freaking ridiculous. I hope you drop your new phone on carpet this time and it breaks. People these days, really.

I agree... They need to get rid of phone insurance and let people be more careful.
I would think from such a short drop it wouldn't be such a drastic result as the touchscreen failing. I mean, you must have dropped it "just right" for that to happen, I would think.
I accidentally dropped my BlackBerry down a flight of stairs at work and there wasn't even a scratch!
But I can see how a 4.3 inch screen could be more susceptible to damage than a BlackBerry.
Just remember, karma can be a *****, so pay it forward and be honest. You reap what you sow.

[Q] Removing dust under the screen

Got another One X last weekend. I checked the screen thoroughly in store to make sure it was flawless. I have now however noticed that there is a spec of dust under the screen. It was definitely not there when I checked it in store, spent ages on a solid white background making sure.
So is there anyway I can try and get rid of it. It got there on its own somehow so I must at least be able to move it off the side of the screen one way or another. It's no big deal if I can't get rid of it as its hardly noticeable in every day use.
I have tried gently tapping the screen and knocking it on its side but it hasn't moved so far. I don't want to try to hard encase I damage the phone. Don't want to try and take the phone apart and attempt to separate the touch component from the LCD and try either as the phone is so new.
Att will exchange for dust under the screen. But. When the phones been on and in use allowing the screen to get warm about 30 minutes lightly tap in the opposite direction. Should move the dust out.
Work on my iPhone back in the day. :/

pretty sure the glass is glued to the lcd and stuck there forever!
Thanks for the reply's. I'm in Australia so now ATnT for me. This is my 9th. Very happy with this one. Won't be returning it for this unless more gets under there. I must be able to move it. I'll try leaving it on max brightness as you suggested and go from there.
It must be possible to separate the digitizer from the LCD because you can buy a replacement -

Since the panel is laminated to the glass (right?), forget it. Exchange.

Bugger. Wonder how it got there then. Haven't been able to move it at all. Who knows maybe it was there and just didn't see it when I bought it. I have 30 days to take it back so I'll hold of and see what happens.

Um not to be a complete **** but after working retail for 6 years as a store manager for At&t and several years in I.T / EE / and project management. The chances of you running into 9 defects of a single model and brand new replacements are are probably slimmer than you getting struck by lightning and winning the lottery together. I would start asking myself am I OCD, do I have dementia, should I be ruling out Delirium..
Ok, sorry I'm being an ass. Just saying.. you either have the worst luck in the world. I read your post completely wrong, or; its you. Either way hope you get it figured out. This phone really is something extraordinary.

My first had dead pixels and a yellow spot. Second had creaking and a rattle. 3rd dent in the lcd panel under the digitizer. The next 5 I unboxed in store. Some had dead pixels and the others had bad dust under the screen.
I didn't tell them were the dust or pixels were, just that there was something wrong with the screen, they pointed them out. The dust under this one is nothing like the ones I unboxed in store a while back, some specs were almost as big as the dot on the letter i which is why I'm going to stick with this one.
I don't think it's to much to ask to get one without dust under the screen seeing as how there are many out there with defect free phones. I feel like I am entitled to the same experience as them, paid the same hard earned money as them after all.. I suspect though that many probably have dust etc but have either not noticed or choose to live with it.
Your right about the phone being extraordinary, which is why I haven't stuck with a refund. Really no going back after you have had a phone like this.
Edit: check this forum out. I'm not the only one with issues and multiple returns. It's a shame so many are having repeat issues.

LOL
This guy worked in retail & engineering and the bases of his argument is the fact he thinks dust and imperfections are ludicris for someone to complain about! Now if he worked at the HTC manufacturing plant where they made these phones and can honestly produce manufacturing data depicting margins of error of defect in the manufacture of these devices in several respective categories then we can break the odds down mathematically and prove whether this poster is full of $hit, delusional etc!
Until then I'll keep lolling @ the response It was good
He's got a point... Say the odds of you getting a messed up screen is 1 in 1000... Multiply .001 by itself 9 times. Those are the odds of you actually getting 9 broken phones in a row.
Edit... It's 1x10^-27.... So yeah, you'd win the lottery a couple of times.

[Q] broke my infuse glass

So, I broke the glass on my Infuse a week ago. The LCD touchscreen beneath it is in perfect condition without any noticeable defects. I have dropped my phone from over 5' onto concrete multiple times in the past and nothing broke those times, but I went to get out of my car and it slipped out of my pocket and fell one foot onto asphalt and the screen shattered, at least the bottom half. It sucks, but it happens, right? That is why I pay $5 /month for insurance, it is an expensive phone that i don't want to replace out of pocket. Well, it turns out that the last time I had to file an insurance claim they hadn't updated their pricing policy. It use to be $50 for a claim, but now it is $200! Ridiculously expensive if I say so myself. I went onto ebay and found that they sell the LCD, glass, and tools for $190, but this is an outdated phone, well AT&T doesn't sell it anymore at least. Why would I want to spend close to $200 for a new screen when I only spent $80 to buy the phone 15 months ago???
Now onto my real question:
1) Should I buy the screen replacement and fix it myself? I'm generally really good with electronics... and I've replaced screens in flip phones before.
2) Should I open a new line on my existing account for $10 a month and get the galaxy s3 for $170 and just put my sim card in the phone?
3) or should I go through AT&T's replacement service and get w/e phone they want to give me? (What phone replaced the Infuse anyway?)
What do you guys think I should do?
I have cracked glass on my Infuse (LCD still works fine in my case, I assume it does for you as well).
Here are what I think are the three best options (no particular order)
1 - Send it to Samsung for repair. They'll do it for about $156, including shipping both ways (they send you a shipping envelope). But you'll lose your phone for 1 to 2 weeks.Contact phone number: 1-888-987-4357
2 - Get a used phone on ebay, craigslist, etc.
3 - Live with it and hope it gets better. This may sound wacky, but I have a cracked phone glass and it really honestly seems to have gotten "better" over time. I'm not kidding.
Part of is switching your apps to dark background so you don't notice the cracks as much (and save battery anyway)..
part of it is getting used to the cracks so they don't catch your attention...
and here's the wacky part ... in my case some of the cracks have "gone away" or gotten smaller since the initial damage. I know that sounds silly and I certainly can't explain why it did that (other than to say this is not normal glass), but that is what I observed with my own eyes.
I don't think replacing the whole LCD unit is an attractive option. It costs $150 and you can get a new phone or have Samsung fix it for that much. It is a somewhat delicate procedure from what I have heard so after spending tht $150 there's a small chance you may not have fixed anything.
There is also Infuse Glass for sale for $10 or so but it is apparently unusable... can't replace glass without replacing the entire LCD unit (they're glued together)
you might want to double check ATT website. i got my refurbished infuse for 1 penny. flawless, looked and worked like brand new. so good, i got one for my sister too.
I have an infuse that I'm willing to sell for 150. Everything works besides the USB port being wonky at times...sometimes it works, others it doesn't. So for 150 you could repair your phone and gain another battery/everything else for the same price as sending it to Samsung.
I advise against adding a line...yeah its 170 up front but add another 240 for 10 bucks a month extra over two years. So that's paying essentially 410 for that s3...same with buying it for a penny online...paying 240 for another infuse over two years.

Attached are pictures immediately after I dropped my phone. I took them using front-facing camera mode.
Here are photos of the same phone (not repaired) today, about 5 months after I dropped it.
I was not able to recreate the exact same view (not sure how I originally managed to use front-facing camera and mirror to get photo of screen without seeing picture within picture type thing).
But I hope you can see it is a lot better. Tough to capture in pictures but there is no doubt in my mind the cracks somehow got better.
Your cracks got better likely because of the adhesive on your screen protector. That is a decent idea for the op to try though...if no chunks of glass are missing, they could try seeing if a screen protector makes the cracks less noticeable
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I have a screen protector on the phone right now and that is the only reason I'm able to use it. I'll post some pictures in a few showing how it looks.
captemo: How were you able to get an Infuse for $0.01? Was it an upgrade/new line/new customer deal?
electricpete1: they showed up when I posted my reply. Interesting...Makes me wonder what type of nearly self healing glass they implemented on your phone! lol Well, that is interesting, I can still see the impact site on the 5 months after photos, but the cracks seem to be nearly invisible now. [[]]edit[[]]For some reason your images are not showing up.[[]]edit[[]] I'll take a look on another browser and see what it looks like. But I am using a screen protector already.
welchertc: I was actually ready for an upgrade in a month but the account holder was a few hours late on his scheduled payment for an over due account and it bumped my upgrade deadline to July next year. So I would technically keep the new line for 7 months, then deactivate my current line and transfer the number over. (I believe that it possible...correct me if I am wrong though) I'll think about buying your infuse. Could you either show a picture of the screen or describe its condition? Mine was flawless, until it dropped that is.
So, my options are either buy a used one for $50 less, claim insurance, send to samsung (Should I keep the custom rom on the phone or will this send up red flags? I'm running Jellybean), or live with it until I can upgrade?

Yes, I have the same screen protector on there now that was on there when it cracked (didn't change it).
Maybe the screen protector somehow played a role in the appearance of cracks going away (even though it's the same screen protector).
Maybe the adhesive is soaking into the cracks. Maybe the protector started to pull away from the crack so hides it a little.
Beats me.

Same as I was. For whatever reason, the screen that looked horrible 5 months ago after I dropped it looks great now... and I didn't do anything (including didn't change screen protector). I was on the verge of spending $156 to have Samsung fix it, and the only reason I didn't was that I didn't want to give up my phone for the period of 1-2 weeks required for that shipping/repair. Now, based on all the factors I mentioned (using black background, getting used to it, and cracked appearance going away somewhat) I'm glad I didn't spend that money.
here are the pictures:
To me, it looks similar to how mine looked. Heavy damage in one corner with cracks spreading accross the screen.
You could try waiting a month or two (three tops). If you see no change, then go ahead and find your replacement. But you might be pleasantly surprised with substantial improvement in appearance (like I was). In the meantime, set your apps and wallpaper to black for very dark backround.
I think I'll wait and see if I can live with it for a month, and if I cannot...then I'll see about replacing the screen first. I'll start the contact with samsung within the week though. I'd rather get the information now and be able to get the replacement screen as quick as possible if I decide to go that route.
Thanks for the advice guys.

OK. I think it was about two months before I noticed the change. I wasn't expecting a change and therefore wasn't looking for a change, so may not have been really observant. You on the other hand have very good quality pictures of screen and will be watching closely.

I'd like to know what phone replaced the infuse too, especially since its officially considered an obsolete phone now.
As a matter of fact Rhamza, that's the case you should build to AT&T-that the phone is obsolete. I've heard plenty of cases, including myself, of complaints to service providers and getting whatever it is you want, so long as your nice and get a compliant tech in the line.
Tell them (if u want) that "my cat knocked my phone off the table, breaking my screen. I see that this phone is totally obsolete and unavailable to purchase at any authorized att retailers... I feel I deserve a replacement because"...etc..
I've heard of people getting galaxy phones for the infuse, so it always worth shot. The worst that could happen is they say no.

I finally just went ahead and called samsung and they said the replacement screens including the LCD would cost exactly $155.88 including shipping. I don't think I'll go that route. I get paid Thursday for over 50 hours so AT&T will be contacted about a broken screen.
electricpete1: I have noticed that some parts of the screen do actually look better, however the 4 buttons on the bottom of the screen are starting to not work because of lost glass even after placing a screen protector over the loose pieces. I think they just came off of the LCD portion.
Sliding the unlock to the right on JB (CM10 unofficial) is starting to require a little more pressure than normal.
honestly i'd send it to samsung unless you have insurance, i had bad luck with replacement parts from china despite them having official "samsung" branding and looking legit. the insurance might get you a phone you don't wan't. since i think (not sure) they deal in refurbed phones for insurance but it might however get you an i-777 sgs2 (a nice upgrade if you like the smaller size) since it looks like hey still have new and refurbed i777s in stock online depited it being long out of production like the infuse. but if they a replacement phone you don't want then samsung is the best way to go unless you find a repair service that has a good warranty policy. i've replaced the screen on one of my infuses myself for a single crack across the screen that was barely visable, the replacement screen burned out in under 2 months and it cost me more than what samsung quoted you to fix yours,at the time i didn't want to be without my phone while waiting for a repair and it cost me.
Well I went ahead and went through the insurance company. Supposedly I coudl have had a choice in the phone I was given, but when I clicked on the "Choose more" button it sent me to the same phone, the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and it said "If you click on 'more options again, you'll be directed to an associate who will attempt to help solve your problem and will not be allowed to continue online at any point" So I stayed with the Skyrocket for now...I'm honestly not sure how I'll like it. Some websites say that the screen is 0.2" smaller than the infuse, other say it is the same. I love my Infuse, but I would rather get a new phone, not one that is a year old already (the skyrocket came out last year in October after all). The phone should be here tomorrow sometime, so I'll report back and let you guys know if it is refurbished or new. In a way I hope that there is something wrong or something I dislike so I can justify attempting to get a nicer, newer phone.
But at least it is coming with ICS and the screen is not broken and there is a modding community here that is amazing! So even if it isn't the best phone I've ever used, it'll still be better than nothing and I can have JB on it within the hour of it arriving. lol
well there was something wrong with it out of the box. (Of course right?) I called Asurion and she said "we'll send you a shipping label and you can send it back to us and when we receive it we'll send you another one right back."
"Wait, I don't have another phone to use while this one is being processed and shipped. What will I do without a phone? I need it for work!"
"Well, go to AT&T and see if they will loan you a phone for about two weeks while we send you another one, but I've never heard of them doing it before."
"Why can't you send me a new phone and when I receive it, I'll send the defective one back?"
"It doesn't work like that."
"If AT&T doesn't hand out a phone for a loan and I miss work because of it, will your company compensate me my $10/hr wage and contact my bosses and explain to them that it is your fault that I missed work?"
"Um, no we can't do that either."
"[[]]sigh[[]] just send me the shipping label and be done with it. This is ridiculous."
"okay. Have a good night." and she hung up the phone.
wth? Rude and not helpful at all. The new phone that I was sent had a defective mic, both on normal calls and speaker phone calls. The AT&T customer service person was really polite and helped me though their trouble shooting guide for the phone and ended up having me go down to AT&T to get a new SIM card. That didn't work, but they activated the new SIM and added the phone to my plan. So the next AT&T rep sent me a phone number to Asurion to get it replaced, because I have 30 days to report a defective device. Well the previous conversation ensued and I find that I am really not satisfied with their representatives. I should have been recording it! jeez.
Here are some photos I took of my Infuse before I put it into the shipping box three days ago.

Broken Screen & Digitizer?

Hi guys, perhaps you might have noticed the screen on my old N5 is slightly worse for wear.
I've decided to either fix it myself or get a pro to do it (I have never had to take a phone apart or replace any hardware)
Judging by the pictures do you think I will need to replace all, LCD, digitizer and frame? Would you recommend DIY or sending it into a shop?
I would send it back to LG however I have media on it I would like to keep but have a lockscreen (which I can't interact with) so am unable to recover files.
Thanks for any help! :fingers-crossed:
the hell u did to it? did u grab a hammer and started swinging at it
Your going to need to do all 3 done..unless you dont mind the scratched frame.
I would get it done in a shop unless you have done it your self.
I have done a few glass and digitizer fixes but i tell ya aint worth the time unless you only broke it in one day and want to fix it.

I've seen those pictures months ago floating around the Web. I smell troll.
from my experience i think LCD + Digitizer + side panels come as a single piece... my lcd had a violet shade near the app drawer icon( only visible in full brightness) as i had warranty i changed free of cost... the person in the shop told with out warranty it would cost about 9500 INR(about 160$) he changedlcd + digitizer + side panels of my N5

Yeah I've no experience so I don't think I'll run the risk of ruining it even further.

Unfortunately I am not trolling. I have a Galaxy S 5 now but would like the Nexus as a spare. If I go to a music festival or something where I'm more likely to lose it or break it.

That's not too bad at all, I'm in the UK though and everything costs a bomb.
I'll call LG in the morning when they open and let you guys know how much it'll cost! I'm assuming around £120.

LG do it for £155 ($265!!??) and will wipe the phone which is no good for me!
I have found a 3rd party phone shop in Edinburgh which will replace the screen with 90 days warranty for £120 and no wipe.
Cheers for your help

LG G2 questions

I picked up a used LG G2 from Ebay. The phone is in somewhat great shape and is functional except for the top portion of the digitizer. About an inch, give or take, at the top is unresponsive to touch. I just wanted some input on how common digitizer damage is on this phone. I know most phones these days are very delicate and the digitizers and LCD's can be damaged quite easily. There is a good knick at the top of the phone so I am guessing it had been dropped at one point.
I paid $150 for the phone and I can pick up the LCD, digitizer, and mid body assembly for $65 on Ebay. Just have to slap the internals in the new mid body, throw the back cover on, and done. Phone is good as new. But I don't want to make that investment IF by some chance the problem isn't the digitizer but rather something wonky with the main board. The more input the better. Thanks guys.
It's the digitizer, I sent mine in for the same thing.. Dunno how much it cost tho cause I had warranty. Hope it goes well replacing it

Thanks MaestriFC. While I was waiting on a response for this, I noticed the phone decide to go quirky on me. I looked it up and found on XDA this is a common problem? Phantom touches, etc.? I seen a couple people say it is still the LCD and digitizer causing these issues and replacing them fixed it.
Well I dropped my phone on tile with no case so I don't think it's a common issue (unless everyone is dropping them) but from what I read the digitizer was loose so you would have to open the phone and connect it, or get it serviced, I don't remember getting Phantom touches though..

Yeah. I read on another forum about it and found links to these problems here on XDA. Apparently, this phone going spaztic is a very common thing. Which still hasn't been traced down to any one specific thing. Most are having LG replace their phones just to get another one doing the very same things. I am going to order the new LCD and digitizer though. Hopefully it fixes the issues. Maybe LG got a batch of faulty digitizers or something....lol...here's to hoping.
Make sure you do your research on replacing haha wouldn't want anything else messed up... In my opinion you should just try to connect it properly and see if that works, that's if you're going to open it anyways of course, could save some money.. Good luck

I tried that. I opened it up, and from what I could tell the phone has never been opened. The screws were tight and came out with some black stuff on the threads. That's USUALLY a sign the phone has never been opened. I reseated the top and bottom connectors for the digitizer. The one on top and the one on bottom, I didn't reseat the other one at the bottom though. But I figured that one was for the bottom portion of the digitizer anyway. Which is working. When the phone starts up, every now and again, the "LG" screen will just flicker then boot up. But most times the "LG" screen shows as normal when booting up.
I did also find out from normal calling that the microphone for speaker phone isn't working properly. Normal headset works just fine. But when I switch it to speaker phone people can barely hear me. But that microphone costs like 8 bucks to change so no big deal. I have checked out many youtube vids on fixing this phone. It can be challenging to have to remove everything but I have found just buying the LCD and digitizer already mounted to a new mid body is the easiest way to go.
So the repeating the digitizer didn't work? I would buy the two together as it would be a lot easier than separating the two.. Might just be you had a faulty one after all

I haven't replaced it yet MaestriFC. I will report back in a couple weeks though when I do get the new screen in and get it all replaced. What didn't work was opening her up and re seating the cables. I thought maybe something could have been or come loose but that wasn't the case.
Just an update guys. I got the whole LCD and Digitizer replaced last night. It's only been a few hours but so far everything is great. No more glitching out. As a matter of fact, I had no choice but power the phone down last week. That's how bad the glitching out got. My phone was totally unusable. But now with the new screen, it's working great. If it stays working great then we can assume the problems with this phone are the cause of bad digitizers.
