I was carrying my nexus 5 in my pocket suddenly it started raining i some how ran and reached my home and found my nexus working but the sound coming from very dim , please help i'm tensed, is their any fix to it.

No the device was in my pocket, i thought it might be well protected, but when i took out my phone water was covering both the sides of my phone, please somebody help me i m tensed

turn it off, do it in a box filled with rice for 1-2 days and see if it worked

Guys, been hanging out here long time now. First incident with about 6 month old captivate. I dropped a glass of water on my captivate yesterday. I immediately removed and took out the battery and wiped it dry. Did not see much of seeped in water so did not do the rice method. Turned on Wi-fi this morning and it says "unable to start wifi". Same with bluetooth.
Call,sms, camera everything works fine. At work, so blew dry the phone and also have kept it next to a warm laptop exhaust. Should I dismantle the phone and try to dry the swb23 chip (wifi/bt) ?
Please help guys !

You can't see the water that got inside. Would have been better to do the rice method before switching it back on but you should do it now nonetheless. Just be warned, you may have cooked the WiFi chip already.
Are the moisture indicators clear? If so, you should send it for warranty replacement. If not, then you can resort to opening it up, wiping the traces, etc.

uggg...may be too late. If you get a significant amount of liquid on or in your phone the worst thing you can do is turn it on.
You should have:
1. immediately removed battery and placed on a paper towel.
2. immediately place phone in a bag of rice for a minimum 24 hours if not 48 before ever powering back on.
Still its worth a try....remove battery and leave in rice for 24 hours....try again....maybe it didn't fry anything when you powered it on...but you definitely need to finish getting the moisture out of the inside via the rice absorption.
I had my old tilt in a pocket submerged in a swimming pool for a good 15 minutes before realizing my blunder. When i realizing it i didn't try to turn it back on. Left it in rice for 48 hours and everything work fine (luckily the phone was powered of when i got in the pool so that probably helped avoid anything frying).
Haha, I once accidently dropped my old Samsung Epix in a bucket of water and it still booted up and worked but most of the features are dead but screen and all still works. It looked like it was wrecked. I got it replaced under my insurance which is a good thing.

but being aware that you shouldn't turn on an electronic device when it is wet hardly requires hindsight though does it? =)
Thanks guys, I have put my phone in a bowl of rice hoping it will get cured.
If not, will ATT not service my phone under warranty ? I read somewhere that replacing the wifi/bt chip costs $70 with ATT. Has anyone done this here ?

How do I check for the moisture indicator ? Any easy steps ?
It is the white (or not so white anymore) square in the battery compartment.

i know i thought it as funny haven't seen that episode in a long time...almost as good as towlie
i am just always surprised to see the posts where someone gets there phone wet (washed in laundry, dropped in toilet, spilled significant amount of liquid on it) and the first thing they did was tried to turn it back on almost immediately.
btw if your looking at the moisture indicators for warranty purposes its quite possible you have to completely open the shell. Usually they have one visible without taking the phone apart but its not uncommon to have a secondary marker inside the phone where it would be harder for someone to tamper with. Can anyone confirm where all the cappys markers are?
Been a while since I had mine apart but I don't recall seeing one inside.

wasn't sure....my Tilt2 had one in the battery compartment and one on the motherboard that could only be seen by opening the casing

So your only problem is a broken main external speaker?
I'd take off back cover and battery and place in rice for a good day or so.
If that doesn't work. Don't panic.
The speaker is very cheap and very easy to replace.

the rice method works pretty good, also if you can get the silicon bags that come with electronics, those work well too to draw in moisture
another vote for rice. I saved a phone from being in three feet of water for 10 seconds with a bag or rice for 2 days.
put in rice for about 4ish hours. Fixed it!! Thanks guys:laugh:
I have used rice to dry a phone out in the past as well. It is an excellent means to solve the "got wet" problem, most of the time.
i dropped mine in some water, everything seems to be ok except it won't recognize my sd card now.... and suggestions??

was workin on the pool last summer and cell was in my pocket while adding water in the pool and slipped and fell in the water but anywho i beat u dry heat is wat i used like from my xbox for about 2hours

Hey guys today my One x felt in to the toilet. I was lucky enough to take the phon out of the water almost immedietlley. I tooked it out, and everything was working when i turned it on.But i was afraid of the water. So i put down the phone on the screen for it to dry on the sun.after a couple of minutes i checked my phone if everythings working and everything was still good.But then i put the phone on the back after a couple of minutes i came back the screen was flickering and got black.Put the phone back on the screen again, booted it and worked fine again.I read on the internet hoiw to fix a wet phone. And this is what ive done.I turned it off, but fastboot was on( dont know if it makes a difference).Took out the sim card, took the phone out of the case, left it on the sun for a half hour and bought some rice.Ive putted it into rice and its there for about 3-4 hours.And did i do everything good, should it work ? And when do i have to takje the phone out of the rice.Is it bad if fastboot was on.Please help.

Shouldn't matter if it was on fastboot, that connects to a pc.. never saw one connect to rice yet. Seriously I would have turned it off being it was still wet. Just make sure it's dry before you start using it. Water bridges the wrong gap and ur phone will short something out. Wait a full 24 hours imo.

You should have powered off the phone completely, as soon as you took it out of the water, then dried it out as much as possible before powering on again. Having the phone on, while water is inside causes short circuits, which fry the phone.
I'd say, power off the phone completely (no Fast boot), and dry out the phone as much as you can, before powering it on again. Keep the phone in a bag of rice for a a day or 2 (or longer, if you can). Keeping it in a warm (but not hot) area might help drying, as well. Then see if it powers on. The phone might might keep working fine, or might work for a while and die. Short of taking the phone apart (not for everyone) and try to dry it out more, there isn't much else that can be done.
My wife dropped her iPhone 5 in the toilet about a month after it was released. She turned it off right after she got it out of the toilet, then took it to the Genius Bar. The Apple tech took the phone apart, and dried it best they could. She told my wife the phone might turn on, might not. Or might work for a while, then just stop working one day. No real rhyme or reason to it, and not much else you can do about it. Her phone has been working fine ever since.

Pretty sure he means the Sense option in Settings>Power>Fast boot; not the fastboot/adb interface.
Power off with Fast boot is not a true power off, but a deep sleep state. Might not make a huge difference. But if it were me, I would probably have turned off Fast boot in Settings before powering off and drying it.
Hmmm, what would happen if i would dry it when the phone was on.Would it be a 100 percent destroy?
No, it all depends on how much water got inside, and whether it got in a spot where it caused a short circuit. It might still be alright. But powering off completely is the safest way.

Hello . I would love to thank everybody for the help and tell you what happened after i took out the one x.Firstly it was discharged but had full battery befor so i plugged it in. And after 5 minutes it turned on . And everything works good accapt one big problem .. there are stains on the displayand im not sure if they will get off my display.Does anyone know how to fix this?

Never done this myself but saw the end result.. a guy I know propped up a hair dryer and turned it on low.. about 8-10 inches away ( adjust distance u want it warm, not burning hot.) Phone on in airplane mode. Don't need extra heat doing this. Ran hair dryer on and off for 3 days or so and the moisture slowly evaporated and display came back. This is just a suggestion, his went from horrible to very much tolerable.

A few people here have gotten moisture under the screen glass, and I think they were able to dry it our using various methods. Warm (but not hot) air is good, and also lots of air exchange to speed evaporation. So the previously recommended blow dryer on low would work nicely, as it fits both of those descriptions. Some folks have also recommended on top of your refrigerator (almost always warm), and in front of a fan might help too.
haha skorry i know thos is late but just found the post. I put my phone in to rice for 48 hours. Took it out and there was little water under display. Everything came out and phone was just washed. Htc one x was a good phone.

I was charging my nexus 5 overnight and when I took the charger off the phone this morning everything was fine until about ten minutes after, The phone screen went black and was unresponsive its been like that ever since. Its so weird I still get notifications that I have messages and email ie the led blinks and it makes a noise and the phone still rings but obv I cant pick up as there is no option to answer.
I might add that there was some spilled water beside my phone this morning that I think may have came out of a glass of water beside my bed. It was only a tiny bit of water so I am not sure if this is the cause.
Anyway I have put the phone in a bag of rice now just in case ....has anyone have any idea what the issue may be ?

Update- Hey Guys the rice worked ...the phone is perfect again
Hi,
Earlier today I was in the pool, I grabbed my Z3 and started taking pictures. (of course I checked twice that all the flaps are closed).
After 10 minutes, I put the device on the table near the pool to dry.
I went out for watching the pictures but I was surprised to find out that the device doesn't recognize my touchs.
I already tried restarting the device using the power + volume up buttons, but I can't see any change.
Important to mention that all the buttons work well, the same goes for the speakers, the microphone, the light sensor, LED light etc.
Do you have any idea what should I do?

I got quite the panic attack the first time I experienced the same thing. For me waiting a while worked, and it came back to life. I still have trouble a couple of hours after soaking it when it comes to sound, though. Sometimes it thinks that I have a jack connected, for instance. I'm guessing you just have to wait for it to dry properly.

same as me! It also thought I connected my headset, for some reason.
when you waited a while, the device was turned-off or on?
I never turned it off. Might be a good idea to try to connect a useless headsets jack (I take no responsibility for whatever might happen though. I have no good concept of whether this might be a bad idea or not) to try to clean it.

I have connected a headset already and it worked fine. I will let the phone to dry until tomorrow.
Very strange. I get my phone wet a lot and never had any issue. Of course touch does not work well when phone and hands are wet. But after a couple of minutes, it is good to go.
If your phone stops working properly after being immersed in water then it is defective and water got inside of it. Bring it to a service center, they will test it and if they find a leak with flaps closed they will replace under warranty.
I've immersed mine in water a few times and I never had any problem (not pool, mostly in the sink for cleaning purposes and to test the waterproofing). If water goes and stays into the headphone jack the phone will detect headphones, but you just have to blow the water out of it or shake it a bit to get the water out. Underwater the screen will not work and it will detect fake touches if a lot of water is still on the screen, but it should work perfectly as soon as you dry it with a towel or something.
If you experience a malfunction after drying up your phone with a towel and getting residual water out of the jack then water got inside and you should get it replaced ASAP. It doesn't need any drying period, drying it with a towel is enough.
