Greetings.
It seems I'm facing a weird problem here.
To begin with, I live in Europe and I've just bought a Verizon M8.
After boot, a pop up reads that this sim card is not from Verizon.
Although, my sim card CAN receive calls and messages (there is also the app from my carrier services) I cannot make any calls.
What happens is that when I'm trying to dial a number, +1 appears in front of the phone number and call is dropped.
+1 is the phone code for the US.
Well, I don't want this.
I thought every single Verizon 4G phone was carrier unlocked out-of-the-box.
To be honest, I know it, because there is some kind of legislation forcing Verizon to sell their 4G phones unlocked.
Could anyone please help me?
What should I do?
Flash another firmware? And which one?
It should be. May need to change the APN settings.
Thought you just pop the sim card in and voila.
I don't know how to change the APN settings.
And why should I do that if the device comes unlocked?
Do I miss something?
Surely, my sim card is not damaged.
In settings click Mobile Data, then click GSM/UMTS Options. IT should let you change the APN.
Which carrier do you have?
Cosmote (GR)
You think this will work?
http://www.unlockit.co.nz/mobilesettings/settings.php?id=131
Try that, and click where it says Android Manual setup.
Thanks man, but I still can't make calls.
+1 stills appears in front of the phone number stating this is an invalid number.
Of course, call is dropped.
Damn. The only thing I can think of would be for you to go to a local store and see if they can set it up. With the sim card and apn settings changed it should work, but I don't know. Hopefully someone else can chime in.
Thanks man.
What I can't get is that I can receive calls and sms but I can't make calls.
I'm assuming if the device was locked my sim card wouldn't be recognized at all.
But still, Verizon 4G phones come carrier unlocked.
What's going on?
Anyone else?
I really need some help.
Should I flash another firmware? Region specific?

Try posting in the regular M8 section. Might get some more help.

Have you looked into the "Set Current Country" options in the Assisted Dialing section of the Phone settings? Or perhaps just turn Assisted Dialing off (I think it's on by default).

YESSSSS!!!:laugh::good:
Oh, man, thank you so much!
That's it!
Assisted Dialing was enabled and caused the problem.
You are the man!
Now, I will try to find a way to make LTE work.
(I know it doesn't work on other US carriers, but globally it should. I've seen it.)

Does anyone know how to unlock the SIM for the Verizon TP2 so it can accept any SIM card?
You'll need to have been a long time customer of Verizon (although, I've read of new customers having good results) in good standing.
Call Verizon up and tell them you want to SIM unlock the phone. If they ask, tell them you're traveling overseas and want to use another provider for GSM service.
This is a very new phone for Verizon, so they may not have the instruction set for the Touch Pro2 yet (my rep didn't). My rep had to contact HTC directly for instructions, but he had both unlock codes in his computer. You can let them contact HTC, or tell them you want the codes and you'll contact HTC directly yourself if this is the case.
They should give you two unlock codes (Unlock A and Unlock B, although you should only need Unlock A).
Write down the code, turn on your Touch Pro 2.
From the homescreen, scroll all the way to SETTINGS.
Click ALL SETTINGS in the bottom left hand corner of the screen
Click the PERSONAL tab.
Click the SECURITY icon.
Enter your Unlock A code in the box and click OK/Enter.
Your phone should now be SIM unlocked!
This is how I did it. Neither AT&T or TMobile SIMs have been rejected in my TP2, but I have yet to make test calls.. I think there is a software restriction somewhere that needs to be bypassed for US based GSM, but I don't recall for sure.

hmm do you know of any online services who could give me the unlock codes?
Why do you need a service? If you're a customer in good standing with Verizon (60days or more I think) they'll give you the unlock code.
The ROM's havn't been hacked yet for the CDMA/US versions of the phones so I don't think there is anyone else doing unlocks yet.
All I had to do was send an email to Verizon from my account login page and the next morning i had the unlock code waiting for me.

just a update

The qualifications for unlock eligability is to have had service with verizon longer than 60 days, only one unlock per line in 10 months, and to have your account balance current, as well as this will void your warranty with the equipment per verizon. It does not affect insurance on the device is what I got. I got a $15 prepaid sim card from at&t due to TMobile not offering data on prepaid, unless you have a sidekick. So after successfull unlock, and my new gophone sim, I was able to make and recieve calls, and took a sec but got data services working, but restricted to edge speeds in the US of course due to the hsdpa being on a different frequency than they use in europe. But hey, my phone now has 2 numbers with a few clicks of a button, no need to even restart the device, so when I am in a building that I cant get cdma service due to the high band frequency it uses, I can then use gsm to make outbound calls, and it's cool to floss to your coworkers that your verizon phone showing the at&t network. Whats the point of having a world phone if you cant play
One upgraded device $199, one prepaid sim $15.00, sticking with verizon after the first tp was crippled, a fortune, being able to showup the iphone on almost every level, Priceless.
Being a good smartphone, there's not an app for that. hahaha

Just got my TP2 with Verizon and lovin' it. Can't wait for this to be unlocked.
I have read about unlocking the SIM card on the phone. It's nice that they will do that, but why would one want to do this? What is there to gain from it?

The big benefit for those of us who travel is that we can use a foreign SIM in our phones when in a foreign country and pay local rates instead of VZW's $2+/min charges. (on Orange when I'm in the UK I pay like 40cents/min to call the US and like 15cents/min to call the UK).
In the US and only with the Verizon phone you can also get say AT&T or TMobile service and have a 2nd local(US) phone number on it and switch between VZW & the other provider as you wish.

I sent Verizon an email on Friday afternoon and got a reply with my unlock code within two hours. It was a very nice reply too. The reason I wanted to do this was I am planning on moving to another area code and have found it much easier to get a job some place if you actually have a local number, so I'm just going to get a prepaid SIM for a while...

I got my code as well. I tried a co-workers SIM card from his iPhone 3GS running on AT&T and it worked. Too funny. The only issue was that he got 2 voice mails and a text while I had his SIM card in and now I have an unread text showing that I can't get rid of. Arrrgh. I also had 2 voice mails that were showing up as well but I got rid of those by calling my phone and leaving a voice mail. Now to just get rid of that stuck text message. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. By the way... thanks for this post. It will be handy when I travel to Europe and Mexico.

If you are comfortable editing your registry, (and have a reg edit program installed on your phone) you can go to:
HK_USER\System\State\sms\Unread\Count
Change this value to 0
That should work. (at least it does on normal sms messages, not sure if the SIM card makes any difference.)
EDIT: You may have to check "..\MMS\Unread\Count" also.

I don't get it. Why can't it be deleted? Same Inbox right?
Did anyone try using data on a SIM card? I wasn't sure how to get that working.
Thanks for the registry tweak. It worked perfect.

Just curious, are you using that SIM card on a US Rhodium? I ask because I got my phone SIM unlocked via the code Verizon provides, but I've been wondering about being able to use the phone in the US with a SIM card from say AT&T or T-Mobile.
I have a question for you guys.
The SIM card that comes with your phones (both Verizon and Sprint), they are dummies right? Do your phones work if you pull em out?
Will be getting my TP2 from verizon shortly. Love the fact that we can unlock the SIM Slot and insert and Active US AT&T SIM card...not so sure I like the Edge only speeds though....
Does anyone know if we can avoid calling and just get the unlock codes posted on here or are they strictly by account?
Did you have to unlock the phone to do that?
I called AT&T and they said that they don't have the unlock code since they don't even sell the device, but that it works on sims outside the US. She seemed to imply that it won't work on tmobile but that if I go outside the US, and just put a sim in, it will work without me having to unlock the phone in anyway.
Can anyone verify this?
Thanks

Most customer service representatives are pure idiots .... Nexus S is a Google phone , so it's factory unlocked to any SIM card you use with it(you may or may not get 3G on other networks depending on the other network 3G frequencies , and if the forgein network has 3G on 900/1900MHz it will have 3G on this Nexus S)..
Hope this helps..
Well I went to tmobile and the guy put in a sim into the phone and the phone got no reception nor did it seem to recognize the sim at all.
So it seems that it isn't unlocked.
I tried putting in this code: *#7465625#
Its supposed to tell you if the phone is unlocked or not, but nothing happens, it just says: Connection problem or invalid MMI code.
I don't need it to work on tmobile, but I do need it to work on foreign simcards. And I saw on other forums that for some people it worked on tmobile and others it didn't so there doesn't seem to be any clear answers.

you have another issue here , check your phone
Thanks for the response.
What do you mean by other issue and how should I be checking my phone?
In any case, I put in a simcard that my brother gave me which I believe is from Mozambique on a carrier Vodacom. It asked for the code of the sim when I put the phone is as always, and so I got in putting in 0000.
It then showed no connection to anything whatsoever, also as always.
Keep in mind I did have wifi on.
Then all of a sudden it asked me to update my phone and install something. So I just said yes and it updated and rebooted.
All of a sudden I have bars here and there and it recognizes that tmobile and AT&T are in the area. I also saw I think at the top of the notification bar when I pull down the notifications tab, it said Vodacom. Of course I get no reception whatsoever but that is expected, this sim was a gophone sim in Mozambique.
Does this mean that its unlocked if it is recognizing another sim, even though no confirmation of reception? I plan to try again with tmobile now and perhaps make sure I have wifi connection while doing so and leave it in for longer.
Thanks and please let me know if you have any thoughts.
what ROM you're on now?stock or costum one ? you also might consider a FULL phone wipe.because this might be caused by a difference between at&t apn or other Sim data and the other .check for that
I'm on stock 2.3 that the phone came with. Haven't messed with it at all.
So I assume you saying that if I want to switch to another sim, I should do full phone wipe then? so that the at&t apn doesn't confuse it?
IF it doesn't work with tmobile again, I will try taht, and I will also try to learn what an apn is.
Thanks for the help.
Might work or might not !!! backup all your data and apps first then use the shotgun method lol
But what I am sure of is that Nexus S phones are always unlocked and SIM free..
First of all, I'm a Sprint user, so the concept of sim cards is kind of foreign to me.
Just picked up an Atrix 2 for a friend, rooted, flashed CM10.1 from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121029
Rebooted, everything's dandy. Turned it off, put in their sim card, and I still have no service. So I poked around, and under Settings -> More... -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators, if I choose either Search networks or Choose automatically, I get an error. I don't have the sim card now, so I can't say, but one of them was "Error while searching for networks" I think and the other "Can't connect to this network right now"
I'm not sure how to tell if it's recognizing the sim card, or 2, if there's something I have to do to get service.
I'd rather not flash it back to factory if I can help it. I was hoping someone here could help. Thanks!

Did you ever try it on stock? if yes, did it work there?
Also, what carrier are you using, and if it is not whatever your phone was sold for (ATT if it has the symbol on the bottom, but not sure if you are in the US. If it is not the same carrier, it must be unlocked, but it should have asked for a code. Does it give you a message saying no sim card ever, or does it just not work at all?
I know that was a lot of questions, but there are a lot of things that it could be.
Also, try just blowing in the sim card slot and stuff to clear it of any lint or crap that could be in there.

Whoa. Brighton. I'm in Milford. Crazy. No, I didn't try it stock, but I just RSD'd it back to stock, so I'll try that next. I don't have the sim card with me. She had to put it back in her phone so she could have something. I'll try it in a bit.
Yeah, it's ATT. And when the sim card was in it, if I remember correctly, it just said "No Service". Before I flashed it to stock, it DID say "No SIM Card" So I guess it's seeing it to an extent. I'll try stock and report back.
Do I need to have the sim card in it once so it registers on ATTs system or something, then I can CM the thing? Like I said, I'm on Sprint, so sim cards are new to me. Thanks!

LOL, I'm Milford too sort of. Milford mailing, Brighton Township, but more people have heard of Brighton around here, so I use that.
Anyways, yeah that means it's seeing it and it is probably an apn problem. you NEED the sim card for any network stuff to work. let me know about stock, it could just bee that cm did something dumb, but my guess is you need the right apns for ATT, which I could give you. What phone is the sim from? it might not work with the A2 if it is not made for smartphones. once is stock, I would just bring it to the store if it doesn't work, and tell them to activate it, and they will give you a free sim.

The current phone is a Huawei something. Fusion? Fusion 2? I'm not sure. But it's Android, but it's 2.2 or 2.3. It's a pretty lame phone. I'll get back over there and grab the sim in a few hours, and see what it does.
So in theory, stock Atrix 2 rom, and her sim, it should just work, right?

It Should, but might not. if it does, keep the sim in and flash cm again if you want. if not, post a screenshot of settings--about phone--status
or just post the info of network through Mobile network state, and make sure the imei shows a number not some error.
also check under wireless & networks--Mobile Networks--Access Point Names and make sure stuff seems normal there. (should have ATT stuff of some kind)

That's fine. it is basically the serial number of sorts for the radio chip. it is distinct for all phones, and is how it is identified internationally for carriers and unlocking and such. sometimes with broken harware/firmware this can become unknown or something, so just wanted to make sure it wasn't a problem. I would say there is a chance you need to get it activated from att. you can't totally share a sim card, as they want ou to add the phone to the plan, but if the old one is going away, it would be worth just bringing it in and asking for a new card.

what is the background of the plan. like what did you have before this phone plan wise, and what are you trying to do now. my guess i things are not set up right, which could end up costing you more money if you have an old plan or something. let me know, and I can see if anything is glaring, but you probably have to have it activated or something, I remember calling to activate i or something, but I am not sure exactly what the process was.
the only info the will likely want is the last 4 digits of your SSN (or whoever's the account is under), the IMEI, and maybe something from the sim card.

LOL, classic, anyways, glad you got it to work for a few days at least!
Hi there,
I've a sim mod rooted MPQ and it work just fine back in China with a carrier named United Comm(WCDMA), but now I'm here in RiverSide CA and my phone won't roaming. Even if I removed the sim card, there are still signal sign and I'm not able to switch the mobile network mode to WCDMA and it ask me to activate the phone each time I turn it on. I think it's locked. I want to use a T-MOBILE sim card. Is there any thing I can do?

It keeps connecting to Sprint from the sounds of it... if you remove the SIM and it still connects to signal.
I thought there was some software modifications necessary for it to work in the US?
Did you bother reading any threads? There's several that are about this exact topic.

I've read this post but it I didn't seem to find a way out, United Comm should be carried by AT&T here in the US, so that could be a problem why it's not working, and thank you for ur caring, it's always u who reply my question first

Well I guess I would answer that question first... can you try the SIM in another device? Does the SIM work?
Now the other issue - re-read that thread, there is some good info on frequencies if you missed it... perhaps the Q does not support the frequencies you require?
Good luck.

well, I tried it on a galaxy S III, it works just fine and the displayed carrier is AT&T, I'll try the radio comm method but I'm not sure that it's the right way to fix it, dose it means that only GSM connection but not WCDMA can be unlocked?

I used my Q on Sprint, so I don't know.
Again, there is some information about frequencies in that thread. The hardware specs are listed there, perhaps you are running into limitations with the frequency required.
Have you edited NV item? Photon Q is locked for US GSM cariers.
Look here for info.

i bought my phone on ebay (with sim-mod). someone was selling it from the us because he had problems like u. so i only paid 110€ for modded phone. was looking like new + unlocked bootloader status code 1 and unreleased test-rom with apps from sprint, google and motorola
but back to your problem go to the dialer type *#*#4636#*#*
then a menu will open. click on the first tap iam not sure but i think the name is phone information. in the window that popup scroll down.
there is a dropdown-menu. maybe that can help you. try diffrent things. i think cdma is the right?
if that doesnt help. u can change the baseband by pressing preference in the navigationBar if u are still in the phone information menu.
maybe a reboot is needed to let the changes work. but if u rebooted check first if the options u take are still set. sometimes they reset by rebooting

What kind of test-rom did you have in your phone? Could you post screenshot from About phone?
I bought an infuse 4G in 2011 in USA then, the same year, I brought it with me in Italy, I unlocked it and it worked since then both in USA and in Europe. I deeply love this phone.
A month ago I accidentally broke some pins of the SIMM socket and then I thought to start using the infuse as a guinea pig to play with android and customized roms.
After many issues and trials and many "return to stock processes", I finally managed to have a working CM9 installed on it. It worked so well that I decided to repair the SIMM socket to use it again. I brought it to the repairing shop and I've got it back a few days ago.
Unfortunately, both with the american and italian SIMM cards I can only call the emergency number (911). Basically it can not register to any network. (btw I'm currently in Italy)
To my understanding if I can call and talk to 911 it should mean that the repairing was good.
I also called my provider to see if my IMEI number is blocked for some reasons but they have confirmed no bad records.
I tried returning to fix things following several guides like:
UCLB3_Unbrick_1.1
Odin_UCKE3_v2
No Voice or Data service after install of CM9 - ##72786#
Recover EFS
but I don't see any way out. The problem is still there and it doesn't change, doesn't matter what I do or what ROM is installed.
Unfortunately, I'm kind of lost here because, apparently, everything works and I don't have any error notification (or simply I don't know where to look at to make some debugging)
Do you have any idea, suggestion?
Thank you!

My only thought would be did they really fix the pins? Seems one of them still isn't making contact. Return it to stock then return it to the shop where you got it fixed and say you are still having problems.

i second this but if the shop that you send it to was in the US then its gonna be a while till you get it back but if they end up not being able too then i would suggest buying a new infuse since its about $80-100 on amazon which you would be able to unlock yourself then start from there but yea go to that shop and if they say its fixed try the sim in front of them to make sure it is fixed because returning to stock fixes most if not all issues

I should add that 911 will work whether a SIM card is in or not, valid or not, working or not. Emergency Call is a safety feature that doesn't discriminate (will connect to any network available). This is why telco's ding you with a 911 fee every month rather than charging you for using it when you really need to.
Thank you all for the suggestions

ha! that I didn't know and it changes EVERYTHING!! I thought that being able to call 911 mean I had no problem with the SIMM socket. After whatever you've told me I do believe that most likely the problem sits in the SIMM socket.
One question though: let's say that it wasn't welded well, is it then possible that I can see the SIMM number in the settings panel but it's still not working?

Hmm, I'm not aware of that view. Only know of the network display on the lock screen (including "No SIM Card - No Service").

In fact it does say "no service" but I can assure that I can see the SIMM telephone number and I can even launch some of the SIMM card tools (none of them really work though) without having any kind of error notification.
I'll bring the phone to the shop and we'll see. I'll keep you posted

Forgot about that listing. Think I know why. Just went to that page, and I get an "Unknown" for that value (and my phone portion is working fine).
So that's mixed information, but a pin not making contact still covers that issue. But what it could be is that Access Point Names or Network Operators is out of whack (these things can apparently stay the same between flashes - or at least restored backups - for some reason).
To get to these two options, go to settings, the equivalent of More... under Wireless & Networks (sorry, I'm not on stock at the moment), and select Mobile Networks.

So I just have got back my phone from the repairing shop and ... it works!!
So I confirm that there was an issue in the welding of the SIMM socket. So this means that it's possible to see / access SIMM information if one of the pins is not connected.
Unfortunately the guy wasn't capable to tell me much about what they did exactly (don't ask, too long to explain ) so I don't know exactly what was causing the issue but I'm pretty sure it was one unwelded PIN.
It's also definitely true that you can call 911 even if the SIMM is not working properly or is not well connected to the device.
