I bought an infuse 4G in 2011 in USA then, the same year, I brought it with me in Italy, I unlocked it and it worked since then both in USA and in Europe. I deeply love this phone.
A month ago I accidentally broke some pins of the SIMM socket and then I thought to start using the infuse as a guinea pig to play with android and customized roms.
After many issues and trials and many "return to stock processes", I finally managed to have a working CM9 installed on it. It worked so well that I decided to repair the SIMM socket to use it again. I brought it to the repairing shop and I've got it back a few days ago.
Unfortunately, both with the american and italian SIMM cards I can only call the emergency number (911). Basically it can not register to any network. (btw I'm currently in Italy)
To my understanding if I can call and talk to 911 it should mean that the repairing was good.
I also called my provider to see if my IMEI number is blocked for some reasons but they have confirmed no bad records.
I tried returning to fix things following several guides like:
UCLB3_Unbrick_1.1
Odin_UCKE3_v2
No Voice or Data service after install of CM9 - ##72786#
Recover EFS
but I don't see any way out. The problem is still there and it doesn't change, doesn't matter what I do or what ROM is installed.
Unfortunately, I'm kind of lost here because, apparently, everything works and I don't have any error notification (or simply I don't know where to look at to make some debugging)
Do you have any idea, suggestion?
Thank you!

My only thought would be did they really fix the pins? Seems one of them still isn't making contact. Return it to stock then return it to the shop where you got it fixed and say you are still having problems.

i second this but if the shop that you send it to was in the US then its gonna be a while till you get it back but if they end up not being able too then i would suggest buying a new infuse since its about $80-100 on amazon which you would be able to unlock yourself then start from there but yea go to that shop and if they say its fixed try the sim in front of them to make sure it is fixed because returning to stock fixes most if not all issues

I should add that 911 will work whether a SIM card is in or not, valid or not, working or not. Emergency Call is a safety feature that doesn't discriminate (will connect to any network available). This is why telco's ding you with a 911 fee every month rather than charging you for using it when you really need to.
Thank you all for the suggestions

ha! that I didn't know and it changes EVERYTHING!! I thought that being able to call 911 mean I had no problem with the SIMM socket. After whatever you've told me I do believe that most likely the problem sits in the SIMM socket.
One question though: let's say that it wasn't welded well, is it then possible that I can see the SIMM number in the settings panel but it's still not working?

Hmm, I'm not aware of that view. Only know of the network display on the lock screen (including "No SIM Card - No Service").

In fact it does say "no service" but I can assure that I can see the SIMM telephone number and I can even launch some of the SIMM card tools (none of them really work though) without having any kind of error notification.
I'll bring the phone to the shop and we'll see. I'll keep you posted

Forgot about that listing. Think I know why. Just went to that page, and I get an "Unknown" for that value (and my phone portion is working fine).
So that's mixed information, but a pin not making contact still covers that issue. But what it could be is that Access Point Names or Network Operators is out of whack (these things can apparently stay the same between flashes - or at least restored backups - for some reason).
To get to these two options, go to settings, the equivalent of More... under Wireless & Networks (sorry, I'm not on stock at the moment), and select Mobile Networks.

So I just have got back my phone from the repairing shop and ... it works!!
So I confirm that there was an issue in the welding of the SIMM socket. So this means that it's possible to see / access SIMM information if one of the pins is not connected.
Unfortunately the guy wasn't capable to tell me much about what they did exactly (don't ask, too long to explain ) so I don't know exactly what was causing the issue but I'm pretty sure it was one unwelded PIN.
It's also definitely true that you can call 911 even if the SIMM is not working properly or is not well connected to the device.

I seriously need help with this. My phone info is this
LG-P999
Android 2.3.3 stock
Baseband: M6600A-SCAUTNZ-2.0.9720T 1[JUL 15 2011 10:00:00]MP;TRULGE_08.09.02R_MDM.
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
The phone has all the information about the carrier but does not connect to the network, it even recognizes a network with -89dbm but does not connect.
I don't know what's happening. When you start the wifi calling app it works but can't sustain a connection on its own. I need your phones baseband info to compare. Also i noticed on the hidden menu accessible by dialing 1809*#999# when you go to the modem setting the following menus says:
QCRIL/Android log on/off: not implemented yet (RIL)
PDP Setting: not implemented yet (RIL)
and so on with the others. I need help from people with working g2x to check this and compare the values, cause i don't know what to do. I have flashed several roms eve the stock, and i have noticed that when i flash the v10f and connect the phone to the computer the lg tool recognizes the phone as if it had the v21e leaving me without the possibility to upgrade the software, I think it is because of the baseband on the phone. I sincerely ask for your help on this. Thank you
I'd try requesting a replacement, or trying the Update method for refurbs.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Well i have tried all existing methods and nothing, cause the lg tools recognizes the actual phone model which is p999dw and wont let me upgrade because of the baseband version, and as for a replacement this is a phone o got from craigslist.

You seem to have the most current version, which makes me wonder about your SIM card. Perhaps you need a new one if it is an older SIM or possibly damaged.
Well My sim card is only 2 months old, it came with my htc sensation, whe I put it on the sensation works but not on the G2x i have also tried it on my father's hd2 and also works, Thank you all for your response, I feel very lucky to be an XDA member.
I will go to T-mobile tomorrow to get another sim and test.
You try a hard reset yet?
If not just hold the volume up rocker and power button for like 10 seconds and it will reboot.
Today i got a new sim card and nothing, still the same keep saying no service, when i try to call says not registered on the network
Did you ever get this issue resolved I am having the same problem...exactly, got a different sim and now I want to try to re-flash the base band if possible? Does anyone know of this issue and any way to fix without dealing with T-mobile?
Unfortunately I had this and I tried everything, went to a T-Mobile rep and they tried trouble shooting, switching sims, hard reset, I even changed roms, went back to stock froyo and gingerbread and still nothing. I'm having a new G2X replacement shipped to me free of charge from T-Mobile already. Go to your T-mobile rep and ask him to fix it (he will try and fail and will open a case with you) then if you have warranty you can get a replacement G2x.

I purchased my phone from some guy on Amazon, just try to go to a T-Mobile rep and don't tell them you purchased it off someone else even though they might be able to check.
Dial *#*#4535#*#* on your phone and give us screenshots of the phone status. Maybe that can give a clue as to what is going on. Scroll past your IMEI and do a screenshot (power and home) then scroll down to mid screen do another screenshot and then scroll all the way down and do a third screenshot. Post them here and maybe we can figure out what is going on. Did you make sure you have the correct RIL also? Some people with your issue have flashed CM7 nightly and then flashed back to another rom and this issue has gone away.
jboxer:
Will try...after a reboot or after I get the T-Mobile to load up again because that just gets me to the dialer again. I am in the process of making a video on Youtube and see if it helps resolve the issue...?? I SCREAM SANDWICH where are you...LOL!!

T-Mobile is also now blocking IMEIs from the network. So that is also a possibility, especially when the phone is showing that it recognizes the network, but won't connect.
I think the only way T-Mobile will block the IMEI is if someone used installments to get the phone, and then the account canceled before the first payment.

No..the phone did work when I tested it. It was not rooted or unlocked. It worked fine...all of a sudden it stopped? I can use any other carrier card and it will work flawlessly. I have a Straight Talk card and can plug it in and no problems..only the data is 2g(Edge) speed on the G2x. Calls and MMS and it shows AT&T as the carrier while the sim from Straight Talk is in. Only the T-Mobile one has an issue. I had the phone for more than 3 months without any problems. I don't think I got took if there weren't any apparent red flags at time of purchase. I took the sim from my old phone at time of purchase and said I want to check it out first and the previous owner agreed. I think the issue is with T-Mobile and the way their equipment works with LG G2x. I am posting a video on YouTube in the next few days to let people see what happens with different scenarios.

If the phone is working with Straight Talk (AT&T) and not T-Mobile then I do believe it is a blocked IMEI issue. The person that sold it to you probably stopped paying their bill. T-Mobile doesn't block the IMEI until they send the account to collection, which takes about three months or so. You can probably call TMO and ask them to check the IMEI and see if they blocked it (if the CSRs can check the blacklist database). This blocking of the IMEI is specific to T-Mobile only so it would not affect AT&T's network or using the phone on any other carrier in the world.
jboxer: Will check on that issue...thanks jboxer

Can I check any IEMI database? I checked one from a Australia database and it said the status is unlocked? Are there any United States places to check or do I need to contact T-Mobile?
Dear forum,
let me just go straight to the point:
My Galaxy Nexus was stolen at work last friday. I tried to use some tracking software like Plan B but without succes, the SIM card had been changed allready.
Now here comes the part that gave me some hope.
When I went to My (Gmail) Account at the Android Market today (using my desktop), I noticed 2 things:
- First thing is that the record from the column "Carrier" has been changed from "Vodafone" to "KPN', so I think I can assume here that someone put another SIM card in it.
- Also at the column "Last Used" I see "February 13, 2012", which is yesterday (monday).
I was really wondering if there is a workaround or something to get more information (like the phone number of that SIM card?) than just the carrier of that SIM card and when it was last used?
Thanks in advance~
Anthony Elbers
During the night push a remote lock app to the device, if they haven't changed the google user login by then. Then just lock the device. If the app shows it set a screen message offering reward for return. Better still make it scream while at work tomorrow.

The thing is, I only work at fridays and saturdays. I also think that the person is smart enought to not bring the phone to work when I'm around.
I thought maybe if I could get some more information with a workaround, I could catch the thief myself instead of waiting for him/ her to give it back (which probably isn't going to happen).
I hope you informed your managers.
You could have a look through the available apps in the market see if there is anything you can use to lock the phone remotely and or push some really nasty messages to it. If you ain't using why should they get the use of it think there may be some way of remotely wiping the phone aswell. Then at least it would be of no use to the thief anyway. Sorry I can't be of more help. I allways make sure I activate any built in phone finder and instal lookout, so never really had to deal with the issue

Note that the phone is stolen and SIM card has been changed allready. As far as I know you need to configure Prey on the phone itself, so not really remote like Plan B.
I'm still curious if there is a workaround to get more information about the SIM card than just the "Carrier" and "Last Used"?
Like.. are those the only two things that get stored or is there more information about the SIM card that I could get without having the phone itself?
If you have the IMEI you can contact your network and ask they put a block on the phone, a lot of the time it also blocks it off other networks as well.
i think the info about the sim like its number is by far more important than map location because if you got the thief's number then you can report that number to the police and mobile network .

This is pretty much what I'm aiming for since I allready have contacted the police and gave them the IMEI of the phone. They said like something like "We'll see what we can do", but I thought there would be some workaround (yeah I'm using this word alot) to get more information of that SIM card.
I think I can assume that the column "Carrier" which is shown on the screen, is read of the SIM card?
Question is, if anything else is shown somewhere in my Gmail (since it's linked to my Galaxy Nexus) or at the Android Market or something that might be of help?

My question is, did you inform your carrier? Here, when that happened to my friend who wasn't too tech saavy, I called his carrier, had the phone blocked right away, and told them what network it was on via the same information that you received via email. The actually contact the manufacturer and the police and were able to track it down on their network, find the phone and press charges. That IMEI number is huge as it tells the carrier what exact tower the phone is connected to. In densely populated areas, that's 1-2km max. Cross reference the people at work that live in that area and boom. Done like dinner.

Tried that one. But I need to set it up on my phone first. Keep in mind that the phone is allready stolen and the SIM card has been changed.
I just bought a phone the guy who made no mention of the fact that it was rooted when I bought it. What is worse is he mentioned that his GF worked for Verizon, which did not seem to mean much at the time. Knowing that here is what i'm dealing with.
I was in a rush when I checked out the phone as I had to meet another person to pick one up for my wife as well. It's the sch-i575 in white 16gb. After having a minute to look at the phone it turns out he had Paranoid Android flashed and the phone was rooted. CRAP! Not what I was looking for and he was not upfront about it. The incredibly strange thing was that with NO SIMCARD the phone was getting 3g signal! I spent all night trying to unroot \ undo what he did. I managed to use ODIN to get back to the stock rom although I think it's still a rooted one since I still have the super user app. I got a sim card from verizon but since it was rooted I did not bring the phone in and when I tried to activate later it would not activate. My wife's by the way is working flawless and when I put my sim in her phone it works fine as well. I had to put the sim in my wife's phone and it activated there. Here is the crazy thing, with or with out a simcard the phone makes calls and has 3g internet only but when I make a call it uses HIS NUMBER!! I'm not sure what the hell to do, what could have he done? Any ideas? Please all help is appreciated! I did not think this was even possible for the phone to function w/o a sim. I'm worried about taking it in to Verizon because of the funkiness. Ty again for any insight...

I thought the I575 was an old slide phone. So A. your in the wrong section of the forum since this is Verizon's S3 or B. you mentioned the wrong device number? I saw phones before working and running on networks without sim-cards but that was years ago. If it is an S3, you sure it's a Verizon device? Also since you see 3g....can you browse around in the browser or make a phone call?

Yes, it's a galaxy s3 16gb in white. It looks like currently I was using the tar66 using ODIN. I'm reverting back to the bone stock one now. As far as the models go isn't the SCH-I575 the Verizon version of the S3?
I'm waiting on the stock unrooted rom to take through ODIN and will report back. Thank you for taking the time to try and help.

You are obviously absolutley correct. I'm frantically trying to figure this out. I have flashed the stock rom and don't have super user anymore. The problem persists with the guys number.
Could he have flashed a custom kernel and modem or does reverting back using the stock rom cover all that ?

The one i linked covers all that and completely erases all data on the phone. Did you insert your sim after the stock flash?

I just double checked and I had the I535VRLAG1 version, yours is the I535VRALF2 in the link you posted trying this now. The crazy thing is that it even says that the sim is activated with MY number! but the calls are still comming from him. I even tried wiping the device and clearing the cache. I also tried to JUST flash the modem with VRLG1.modem.tar.md5 and nothing :\. Waiting on the file from your link to download and will try that.
Is it possible that this is being caused by something on Verizon's end? The phone ( with out the SIM ) is registered to him somehow? I know this is not normal but because his GF worked for Verizon could they have done something funky?
Yeah its definitely possible its from something she did to the phone but most likely nothing from Verizon's end. Does the IMEI number under status match the IMEI number under the battery?

Yes IMEI is the same in the OS as behind the battery.
The curious thing is that on the same screen in the OS where you find the IMEI there is also a field called Network and it says " Unknown"
It also has things like:
Eri v : 5
Mobile network type : EvDo-rev.a:8
The thing I keep coming back to is how is it possible for this phone to make calls\ have data with out a sim?
Starting to really think I got cheated
Cheated? Sounds like you have free Verizon service.
Roll with it. If you really want a bill you can have mine...

Just did and the same thing happened. I went to the Verizon store and the guy there had no idea and got me in touch with tech support from the store. They were dumbfounded and flat out said that what is happening is impossible. "It's impossible to make\receive phone calls with out a sim unless they are emergency" I harped on the fact that I am making phone calls as one of their other customers and that this is a big deal. In the end since I had the insurance and extended warranty they will ship me a new phone.

I have read a few threads about this issue, but none of them seem to be the same exact problem..
Right now I am running ParanoidAndroid 2.15 with InstigatorX 6.3.6 kernel.
When I first noticed the problem I was on PA 2.13/IX 6.3.6 I believe and I was using the UCLF6 modem.
My network connection was fine until one day I noticed that I had 0 connectivity and when I tried to make a phone call it said I wasn't registered on the network.
Sooo the issue..
My network connection constantly shows that I am not connected to the ATT network, sometimes the network is out for a good 5 minutes or so before it connects to it again. When it does connect to the network it usually shows up as connected to the Edge network..once in a while it will show 3g; I used to have full bars of 4g/hspa.
After a few minutes go by, the network connection cuts off and I am again once disconnected from the network.
From the time I had no problem with my connection to when it started disconnecting from the network I have no idea what happened.
Yes, I do flash ROMs a lot, but this seemed to happen over night. (I had not messed with my ROM for a good while and then BAM my network blows 'all of a sudden')
Things I have tried..
I have tried different roms, different modems, I have tried the whole airplane mode deal, tried pulling the batter, I have reverted back to stock using Odin and the stock ROM file. My IMEI number shows up correctly, my settings are default as far as allowing data connections ect.
I am not sure if there is anything I can do besides call up the warranty department and try and get a new phone, but I wanted to ask here before I did that.. I've already returned my phone like 2 or 3 times since February lol.
Try getting a new SIM card from AT&T. There is a $10 fee for it, but I had a similar problem and this fixed it for me. My phone would lose service and say "No SIM card inserted" then I would hit restart and everything would work except phone calls. I had to remove the SIM for a few minutes and put it back in in order to make or receive calls.

Not sure if this will help or not, but in the past I have had AT&T "re-initialize" my phone on their end and it has fixed some connectivity issues.
Good luck!
Well dang, I was wishing and a praying I'd come back to some good news lol. Oh well

Backup and odin back to stock I727UCLF6 and see if the problem goes away. If yes then its possible you need to look for the AT&T LTE APN settings.

I've tried using Odin to stock ICS and also GB, but the problem still occurs =\
Did you unlock it?
Hey,
Did you unlock the phone? I have a similar issue, having had tried many different modems kernels and ROMs including the stock ones. It turns out that if the phone is unlocked then it will lose connectivity to lte and 3g. I get edge sometimes and one bar max but I cannot make a call out ever.
Unlocked it as I was travelling in the states and now Roger's says I voided my warranty by unlocking it. Tried a different sim card but I am only able to text right now, no calls. The only silver lining is the big three are starting to lower their prices a bit to compete with new competitors. Then again they make budget brands like koodo and public mobile to directly compete with the new entrants so unless the crtc steps in looks like we'll always get gouged.

But have you verified the imei shown in settings > status is the same as what is on the sticker under the battery?

I'm not 100%, but I don't have any warnings about my SIM card or anything
Same boat
I'm having the same issue with my Galaxy Note 717r on Canadian carriers Rogers and Telus
I keep getting the Error 'Not registered on Network'
On Rogers, if I select GSM only, it will register on the Network and connect with EDGE speeds
It has been Carrier unlocked at some point but it was working that way for a while. You can check by using this service code: *#7465625#
Tried multiple SIM cards that work with other phones.
Verified that the IMEI number matches what is on the sticker *#06# Rogers told me if I can make calls on the GSM network than the IMEI isn't blocked. Don't know if that's true but it makes sense.
Went back to stock everything (Modem, CSC, ROM) then I upgraded to ICS OTA.
Enable SIM lock, Disabled SIM lock.
How do you know that carrier unlocking blocks you on the 3G/LTE networks? Can the carrier be relocked?
I've got another 717r coming to me. I think I'll try backing up the EFS folder and restoring it on this phone just to verify it's not corrupt or a blocked IMEI.

I'm not sure about that one.
But what ROM do you use? It seems like this only happens with people who have JB ROMs..it looks like..
I just called ATT , they did some kind of wireless number reset, nothing happened.
They are going to send me a new SIM card which I can test and see if that fixes the problem, but I'm not going to hold my breath though.

Hi,
Just bought a brand new Nexus 5 from a person wanting to keep his iPhone.
Everything is working fine, except it says "No service" (sometimes with one bar, sometimes with all four). Data is working fine though, but neither SMS/MMS or phonecalls works. Sometimes, when i reset/reboot i doesn't say "No Service", but after one single phonecall it reverts back to "No Service" and only data works again.
Iv'e tried resetting with the firmware on the phone from the start, tried flashing both kot49h and krt16m, tried getting a new sim (which works fine in my old Nexus 3), tried different radio-settings but nothing works for me.
Any thought of, what I can do? (before I ship it off to repair, which would cost quite a lot)
Thanks, in advance!

A European one called Telia, or TeliaSonara, depending on your country. I live in Denmark, and here it's called Telia.

Yeah, that doesn't work either. Sometimes it can't even find any operators :/
More>Mobile Network Settings>Access Point Names
You need to either update or add your APN for your provider, then everything will work for you. Flashing modems probably won't help you. Also, make sure the Sim card you have is active.

Iv'e checked and double-checked all of the APN-settings. They should be allright. Also, the sim is active (and it works fine in my Nexus 3)
Don't want to look offensive, but are you on wifi?
Dansker her også
The problem you have, i faced that when my old phone got stolen. So less then a week ago my old phone got stolen (got it back, but bought a nexus 5 now :3) i called the insurance company and police to report it stolen, and i got it IMEI locked with the help of the police. And when that happends you wont be able to call or text from it, but your data will work for tracking it.
So my guess is that its a stolen phone and the original owner reported it stolen to the police, and now its IMEI locked.
Try and call the police and give them the IMEI number, and tell them what you told us and ask if its locked.
Great day to you!

No I'm not ^^
@Zestia , I'll try that, although the websites with blacklist-lookup that I've tried the IMEI with, didn't say that it's stolen.
Did you check to see if your phone is blacklisted for being lost/stolen?
