Karbonn A30: All Things Root Thread

Karbonn A30, the 5.9 inch phablet, that just recently attained the available tag at Saholic for which you have to cough up around INR 11k.
The device becomes much more interesting because of the 5.9" screen size which beats even Galaxy Note II by a good one cm!

The complete specs of this device are not out yet, and not disclosed by the shopping site itself. So, if you have got hold of one, I would love to get a reply from you. Let's sum up those which are confirmed as of now:
5.9 inch Capacitive Touchscreen
1 GHz dual core processor
8 MP rear camera with dual flash
1.3 MP front camera
2,5000 mAh battery
All basic connectivity options like 3G, bluetooth, wifi and GPS
One important thing that's missing from the confirmed specs sheet is the amount of RAM. While we can't expect 1 GB ram at this price point, anything below 512 MB would just kill the deal.
Rooting Method (Generic for all ICS phones):

The above rooting method should work flawlessly on A30, as it is working on all Karbonn android phones (in fact every Android phone) running on ICS or above.
Let's hope that the development on this phone gets a quick boost when someone confirms this rooting method. :victory:

Rooted.....installed SU , root explorer , ROM manager. But all I want to do is install apps on the external SD card ....Karbonn A18 allows it.....Any suggestions?

How did you root the phone? Which tool did you use?
Btw, you can use my swapping mod to swap your sdcards, that might solve your problem. Link to that is present in signature.

I am a medical guy and no techie so I do what XDA people say and stay happy...let's see what happens with this A30's developement.

here is s gscript that lets u dump all the partitions.a ful rom backup.
i have a full dump.only the PRELOADER and DSP_bl is corrupted.
i cant get them to load in sp flash tools
see the attached gscript.for complete backup use the "back_mt6575_a4_v2c" script.
i have attacher the scatter file if some one needs it.my device is still in servicing.so i cant go foreward.
{credits for the "back_mt6575_a4_v2c" script to original developer.i fount it not mine.i dont knw whos it is.}

I m planning to buy this phone..can anyone confirm the ram of the karbonn a30..is the phone really of 512 ram..& is the gaming smooth on this phone..thanks

Hi Kalya,
I have tried rooting my Karbonn A30 with all the tools out there but it refuses to root.
I have even tried Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry v18 but no success
Please tell me in which mode from the following it should be connected when i connect usb.
1.) Storage mode
2.) Media Mode
3.) Camera mode
USB debugging is on.
I always get the errors like,cannot push SU,file not found,no permission, directory not found and all that stuff.
Please help.

have the same problem using a bakuptool v2e at my first try ... i just run again the script and its good... you just have to delete your first dumped files. and try again. good luck..

Since Karbonn A30 is a rebranded of VSUN i1 this should work with the phone.

Hi everyone, the jiayu f1 has been leaked, it will cost $50 in china so that will be around $85/£55 shipped internationally which is stunning value.

I have downloaded and installed CWM with this app, its working fine and its in english but the screen in recovery is upside down, lol. Is it just me or?

Every bootoop I need to Flash stock rom via SP flashtool ,Root and boot to recovery and restore
Trying to port ColorOs .

I cant enter recovery with power+vol+ aswell , i use this app to enter recovery.
I wish we had some more ROMs for this phone, maybe AOSP / Cyanogenmod lol. :laugh:

The problem with entering to recovery from boot just slow's me down .
With the new rom you can use the clock area on status bar as power button -no need to click the power button to lock the screen.

i see no threads of Jiayu f1 on XDA. i hope ppl will show interest in its devlopment soon.

Omg this is amazing, Xposed (& Gravity Box) is working with this phone.
So now i have Advanced Restart menu and i can restart directly to Recovery without using Jiayu app, and also easy access to make screenshots.
Tried some Status Bar mods and they work fine aswell.

I am working on the repartition, meaning the internal SD card and the data partition will be migrated (and will have approx. 2,5GB data partition)
Installation of recoveries
If your phone is rooted, you can use Mobileuncletools from play store, and follow this instruction (option 2). Note, that the files in that post are not suitable for F1, but the method is good.
If your phone is not rooted, then you need to use SP flashtool.

I use the lewa OS v5. You know how is possible to activate the unlocking with the volume buttons?
I have not try gravitybox yet. I m not sure if is working in Lewa. You know one other way?

In order to unlock with volumes button you need custom kernel . But we can't have. If you want these. Is a lot of apps that help you unlock with sensor of top of your device

But in MIUI this is possible, exist like option somewhere at the settings.
On the other hand, the apps which they work with the sensor, they will consume battery.
I will try with gravitybox.

I don't know about miui . I never use I had try with gravityBOX but didn't work

In order to put your phone in recovery mode you must press power + volume down then choose recovery mode

The instructions were very clear and helped me to get back to stock 020 easily using Windows 7 SP1 64 bit.

I found this phone today on several webshops. Also there are many custom roms. So it is an interesting phone. I want to know how is GPS? How many seconds before have strong GPS signal? How is battery with moderate use? How is build quality and sound?

Gps and wifi are very good
The gps is caught fast... But better you can use it on your car!
I record a track and it was almost on the road when you see it on google earth.
I think on (my) moderate use you can have 2 days.
For chinese phone... Is well build
In call sound is fine

Battery Life?
Can anyone please comment on Battery Life? Is it better than Stock ROM ?

I have updated my phone to 4.6.20 but have found a bug:
Local landline calls in Delhi (+9111* / 0112* ) are getting routed as Emergency Number
Issue is there with 4.6.6 as well. Trying to fix

Yep but it takes a while if its a cold lock. But gps is awesome outdoors. Best I have ever seen on a phone! Locks in almost instantaneously if you have a data connection (I have 2G).
I'd say battery behaves more like the 2000-2500mAh battery on my 4.7" Xolo Play T1000. On a 12 hour workshift, I need to charge it in my workplace. On a 6 hour shift, it can last me. It would help to buy an extra battery (costs ~490 bucks off ebay).
Playing PVZ2 for ~1 hour sucks 35-40% of the battery.
I am a moderate to heavy user as you can imagine

The device
It is an amazing mobile for the rate... My piece had a small problem with the volume rockers, though. The volume up button is already touching the sensor inside. My may go to the nearest service Centre for getting it rectified.
Recommend buying it. My friends are stunned by its looks.

Did you wipe data, cache and dalvik before flashing?
If not, do it and reinstall, else wait a couple of days as I am about to port the latest weekly build.

GAPPS problem.
I am unable to restore Maps, Youtube, GMail etc from Titanium Backup. Also tried installation from Play Store from web, but it does not get installed. The play store in device itself does not run properly. It just hangs without any message. WiFi is too slow. Google search appears in notifications and then disappears.
Restarted mobile when Maps was being restored [ was running for about 10 minutes]. Now there are icons of Maps, Navigation etc. But they don't run. The message is "Unfortunately, Maps has stopped". And now Titanium backup also exits with the same error message.

Use custom KK recovery from here.
I prefer [CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch 6.57.9 - cwm 6.0.5.1.
(Internal sd-card refereed as sdcard00, external as sdcard01)
Download rom zip file.
Put into sd card.
Flash the desired recovery.
Boot into recovery.
BACKUP CURRENT ROM
Wipe for flash of new rom.
Or wipe data/system/delvic cache/cache.
Select Install From SD (Internal or External)
Select the zip file and Select YES
Reboot.
THINGS TOBE NOTED
First boot takes time 3-5 mins so be patient.
After the boot logo (boot logo may look as if its stucked)
blank screen is seen its not hanged.
wait until it boots.
Phone reboot once inbetween so dont worry.
If recovery ask to disable recovery flash just select NO otherwise init.d wont work.

Camera is best part... But looks like eats up more battery. A longer run on this may give a clear picture.
KitKat keyboard force closes only if you try swiping through keys.. Not a big issue..
Tried Google keyboard , works fine.
System partition had no space left default. But you can uninstall some system apps if needed.
WiFi ,3g ,otg every thing works..
Lenovo launcher also supports themes.
Go ahead & give it a try. Nice ROM.

No matter what, don't stop churning out ROMs for our device. I'm trying each and every ROM you are cooking up too. I guess lot of people use the ROMs but are time bound send in reviews. I'm sure everyone here truly appreciates the good work you do :highfive:

Actually, avi u r much faster, keep some time lag between two ports, so that end users may get sufficient time to enjoy the new port. Then u will get proper reviews.

Testing rom since last night, some issues I've found are:-
1. Rom is improperly rooted, superuser is not working
2. No space is available in /system
3. Poor network coverage reception
4. Charging battery icon in switched off mode is distorted.
5. No restart option in power menu.
