4G cuts off when I get a call. - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I get a call my 4G cuts off, this doesn't make any sense. Can someone please tell me how to turn this feature off? Thanks

You can thank Sprint and Sprint Spark for that. All new Sprint phones do this.

What??? that is such crap, how do they expect to keep customers, if they take away extremely useful features like that? Thanks for the information. :good:

VOLTE is the goal but I dont think it will come soon, even this year. Maybe towards the end of the Network Vision rollout. Unfortunately until VOLTE is ready CSFB is all we get, and it sucks. Its hard to switch tho when you work right under a site with an active B41 connection with speeds up to ~75Mbps...

I would much rather Sprint actually roll out their LTE network in a satisfactory manner, before launching VoLTE. Sprint LTE has poor coverage in many large cities, and the last thing I would want is to miss phone calls due to an incomplete and poorly functioning LTE network. Sprint knows this I am sure, so don't expect it anytime soon.

volte turns voice into lte data. So it would be just another data stream. So voice and data would work at the same time since it would all be data. Personally I would have rather had that than vowifi.

What it does is very little. Nothing to really lose sleep over or even worry.
All a PRL does is add towers from Roaming agreements that just came online. Nothing less, nothing more...if you live and work in the same place it's a safe bet nothing changes for you...however, if you travel all over the country, then it is always good to have the latest Roaming List Update, specially if you are going someplace new you have never roamed before.
Other than that it's not a real big game changer like a Radio update. That's why it's called a Preferred Roaming List.
Rockin got it done
i use Verizon PRL 31337 =/
i get faster speeds and a more constant ping at work with it.
Wonder if we could get an updated Verizon PRL somewhere.

You can use verizon PRL's on sprint phones. Its really only used by people who have great verizon coverage in their area and bad sprint coverage. It causes the phone to connect to verizon's networks preferably over sprint's.

I'm a sprint rep at an ASC location and I've never had anybody come in and say they got that letter you're talking about, I know it can happen but haven't seen it yet.
And to the OP, a PRL can also remove towers from the list, a bunch of towers were removed from FL in a recent update.

If you're constantly streaming videos and tethering non stop while roaming for MULTIPLE months than yes, they probably would. Outside of doing that, I doubt it. I tethered for a week while I was on vacation and I didn't get a single thing.

Was just about to post this.
I think it will be good for us if AT&T decides to add their frequencies to T-Mobile's towers. The purchase is expected to take a year and I wonder if it will be blocked by the SEC.
Does that mean AT&T wireless can actually get worse, now that they will (supposedly) gobble up t-mobile?

Well in "the old days" I would have seen the SEC letting this go about as far as I can throw it, but after changing the laws to allow comcast to become the mega-carrier they are, they'll let this one through as well.
Very unfortunate given that T-Mobile at least has drive to create a decent product.
I guess the old saying is true, if you can't beat em, buy em, lol

In my experience, T-Mo had far LESS than AT&T, tho it's been 5 years since I had T-Mo. With T-Mo, they have so many roaming agreements you can drive across the country and have fairly reliable service the entire way. Not the case with Big Red or Big Mama Blue.

They have about a year head start on HSPA+, but that's about it. No clear direction on LTE tho, so I guess this was written...
Big pink and big blue got hitched! LOL
I'm sure T-mobile customers are jumping for joy after they read this news.
I'm seeing this as being one step closer to getting rid of CDMA.
I wish Cell Phones worked the way they do in Europe. We have too much fragmentation and carrier control in the US.
I have a friend on T-Mobile and he likes the data speeds but the coverage of phone service itself apparently isnt that great all i hear about his how much he complains!!!
Here is some more info from engadget
http://www.engadget.com/photos/atandt-t-mobile-lte-buildout-slides-0/#3984852
Edit: I also read somewhere that it may take a year for this to complete. So no new changes for a while.
NICE!!!!!
I have been to places where there are only tmobile signals! (i did a network search, only tmobile pop up!), but i'm unable to connect cus att wont allow it! i guess this merger will change that!
this means that now after it is complete, we will be able to access t-mobiles hspa+ network with our inspires right? this is great news if we can b/c t-mobiles roll out of hspa+ is far greater than at&t's as of now
Least they will have a larger hspa plus network

Or will google switch to verizon or sprint for pure google devices

I heard that all 3g tmobile phones will need to be replaced(nexus s)
Why would google switch to verizon and spirit? I think it will not mean much different then what we already have with few if any improvements. They most likely will not provide to many more phone options then they already do

They are not killing T-Mo's 3G spectrum so they still will work.
Edit: Google probably would use AT$T because they use GSM so they could sell the same developers phone world wide.

most companies uses GSM all over the world...and Google makes phones for the worldwide users not just US users....
It might be good thing for us to have pure google phone....which i am sure will be manufactured by motorola...

[Q] Constant Loss of Signal (Sprint)

Is anyone anyone else constantly losing and regaining signal? I just noticed it once I got home from work. I'm unlocked and rooted. I updated the PRL and profile. I noticed the signal lose after this, but I wasn't paying much attention before I got home.
Anyone have any advise before I RMA this thing?

Yes, I was just about to create a thread asking the same thing. The signal icon turns to an empty triangle randomly for no more than a minute. It's been happening all day =/

I think it's because the N5 just has terrible reception in general. I get 1 LTE bar in areas where my Moto X used to get full LTE bars.

I have experienced random signal drops, even when I have full bars. It might only happen when it's switching between LTE/HSPA, but I haven't really payed attention.
Sprint is doing a lot of backend tweaking to support the Nexus 5s. Lots of performance changes hour by hour as they try and set up the network to allow unlocked Nexus phones.
First time allowing a phone on their network that's not sold them so these are all part of the growing pains. Just keep giving Sprint productive feedback so they can iron out the issues.
I went to the online chat and the guy apparently "refreshed the network and fixed the glitch." I thought he was full of ****, but I haven't lost bars yet ^.^
Edit: never mind, he was full of ****...

I have been having the same problem at work and I can trace it to switching between network types. LTE to 3G to 1x. At home I'm good to go. I think it may be because Sprint installed a micro cell in our building and it's not LTE compatible.

Might just be a not so great radio software/firmware at the moment. Most likely future updates will make it better. Now, that doesn't help you in the interim but that's most likely it.
my worst fear.. LG's are notorious for dropping signal. I know this because my old LG Optimus G did it, and many others had this problem as well. You can google or look at my old posts.
I ran a Network Signal Pro log last night and it was a constant signal/no signal. Not sure if it was just voice or voice and date. I have attached it, if someone who knows how to read that better than me could look at it that would be great. I'm running another log right now, will be 60 minutes with a 30 poling rate. I'll post that later. The signal is pretty weak since I am in a hangar at an airport. So we will see how it is.

I thought it was a bad sim/the fact that sprint doesn't even recognize the device. I plan on waiting until the 8th to take any action personally.

Why should any "tweaking' be required? GSM networks have let on all phones for years. It would seem that once Sprint allows a phone on the network, it should be in the same position as a GSM network with respect to phones that it did not sell.
Also OP, do you mind providing your general location?
Here is the next log. Never lost a connection.
The only difference I see here is EVDO A at work vs EHRPD at home. Wonder if that is part of the issue?

Ah - other side of the country. Didn't see you had it in your profile as well, my bad.
Other side of the country which makes me nervous that it's not a sprint issue - I'm in Detroit near campus martius and still having similar issues.
it isn't only Sprint, it happens in Rogers and Fido in Canada as well. So I believe it is LG

I feel it may be a sprint issue only due to it constantly losing connection of EHRPD but it being fine now that I on on EVDO A at work. It is the same radio and antenna for EHRPD and EVDO A, right?
I'm going to Salt Lake City this weekend, I'll have to see how it preforms there.

Same thing happens with my phone when it's on LTE. TMO can't make calls over LTE, so the phone has to switch to HSPA in order to make a call.

Weird. Mine connects almost instantly on HSPA.
Interesting, mine connects instantly both on LTE and HSPA but I'm using LTE with AT&T and HSPA when I am in China on China Unicom. As simms22 said, could have to do with T-mobile's network.
