Hi Folks,
Maybe it´s a silly questions, but are there other non-Stock ROMs that CM-based available for our Moto G?
All other Custom ROMs are somehow based on or related to CM, or?
Am I right? Can somebody bring some light to my dark brain?
THX
There are other roms that aren't stock nor based in CM. The paranoid (PA) and the AOSP are examples.

PA is not an example, it uses the CM sources for our device. In fact, the builds we get - AOSPAL - are all based on CM's device specific repos and only use the frameworks and settings from PA.
AOSP is only ROM not based on CM.
To answer the OP, no there are no other type of ROMs for our device as of now. Either the ROM is based on CM or on Stock. We also have a firefox OS port, but that is also based on CM sources.

I'm sorry, but I believe that the Paranoid is not more based on CM, but on AOSP. Please, view the change log of ROM. :good:

Only the nexus devices have PA based on AOSP. Our device is supported by AOSPA legacy ( use device repos from cm and are therefore called legacy).
If you don't believe me, check the github of AOSPA legacy.

They're both derived from CM device trees.

Because to have official support it has to be out of Alpha/Beta stage. In other words it has to be completely stable on hardware level (kernel and proprietary binaries) before it can be included in the main repo and build with only CM not device changes. CM devs will not bother to fix device stuff, only OS related. So if you are reading the CM10 threads you will know that we are far from that still. It may be working but not for all (example the hitachi panel users). Until this is fixed - no official support.

thanks for the explanation dude
appreciate it. now i understand
i always thought the cm guys do the work them selves to get everythign working correctly.guess i was wrong
so our devs have to get it stable first.then they add it
I have been running cm for a week or so. I wanna try a aokp rom . is there a list of aokp ROM and how can you tell if the ROM is aokp? I'm new and I want to explore the aokp side of gs3.
Thanks

There are two types of custom Roms. There is the Roms based on the OEM version of android (touchwiz from Samsung and Sense from HTC) and AOSP. AOKP is an AOSP ROM not another type of ROM like MIUI is. With that being said we don't make recommendations as it leads to debates about which ROM is the best. Also everyone here has had different experiences with each ROM to really be of any help. Lastly your thread will be closed by the moderators.
The reason i ask is cause i go to this lnk and only shows aokp on one. As for a new person its a bit confusng.

I edited my first post.
AOKP is just a modified version of CM. aokp.co: http://aokp.co/devices/d2vzw You'll want Milestone. Keep in mind this is 4.3 and it's based off CM10... there isn't an AOKP for 4.4/CM11 yet.
If you're talking about AOSP-based roms, which are different than CM-based, there's a few (Gummy, Liquid, Carbon, SlimKat...); my daily driver is Gummy with the dkp kernel.

That isn't up to date as there have been at least 20 or so ROMs since then. As I said before AOKP is an AOSP ROM albeit a popular one. AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project. Roms like CyanogenMod,AOKP,ParanoidAndroid and PAC-man are all AOSP ROMs. AOKP is a specific AOSP ROM. The AOKP ROM on that link is the official one created by team AOKP. Beepea206 CyanogenMod is still an AOSP based rom as it is based off the official Android releases like all other AOSP ROMs. Yes they have added their own code and features like the ROMs I have mentioned in this post but they are still AOSP based ROMs. It is like Ubuntu and other Linux OSes they all have added their own codes and features but all are still Linux OSes.
Is there a up to date list on the ROMs than. Since I find ones like the one I posted is out of date. Or a master list of aokp ROM and aosp ROMs and such?

Wrong, albeit semantically.
- AOSP roms are those compiled directly from Google's sources, with device and hardware files modified to work with the rom. For a rom to be 'pure AOSP', it has to be free from any CM repositories, which is why all the non-CM roms right now are 'AOSP-based'... they use the hardware and device repos from CM. As it stands right now, there are no 'pure' AOSP roms for the d2vzw.
- AOKP is a kang (aka the 'K' in AOKP, or Android Open Kang Project) of CM, generally adding more features like the navigation bar and status bar tweaks. There are also AOKP builds that 'cherrypick' things from CM and the AOKP githubs.
- CM is a custom, modified version of the AOSP framework with a slew of hacks and mods; it's essentially a derivative/variant version of Android, drawing on the open-source nature of the OS to create a new one.

No their isn't any at the moment. You will have to go through original Android development section and it isn't a list per se .
I read the thread about the chaos kernel and didn't understand how to know if my Rom is supported. Can you just answer that?

Chaos is meant for CAF roms, so if your rom is CAF it is supported.
If your rom is AOSP, only versions up to 9.2 will work.

Yup, exactly. Beanstalk is based off of CM11, which is CAF, so it should work fine with Chaos.
Edit: Although Beanstalk is CAF, after checking out the Chaos thread it seems that it does not work with Beanstalk.
Edit2: Read the last paragraph of this post. This is probably why Chaos doesnt work.

Are AOKP ROMS CAF such as Dirty Unicorns?
Also how do you utilize the search feature so well? Whenever I use "search this forum" it brings up things that has nothing to do with my search? For instance if I search "Paranoid Android" it shows almost every ROM in the development section.

Yes, I believe AOKP based roms are CAF as well.
I dont use the "Search this forum" feature. I use the "Search this thread" box found in all threads. For example, on the Chaos kernel thread i did a search for "beanstalk". It then brought up a bunch of results where people had mentioned the word "beanstalk", and I found that they were having issues using it with the kernel.
And dirty unicorns is based off omni rom.

True. Meaning that if you are to go with DU, you'll need an AOSP kernel rather than CAF.
I like AOSP ROM, but i'm not sure if there any ROM yet.

There are a lot of them. Look in both Development sections for 5.0 in the title. Vanir is probably the most stable and bug free right now > http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/orig-development/official-vaniraosp-t2890749

Its different they get the sources and do cm stuff to them, generally you will get kernels that are for AOSP or CM based ROMS as a result

I'm currently running Vanir ROM. It is indistinguishable from vanilla AOSP (on my Moto X). And for most users, the current iterations of CM12 are so lightly customized that they are, for all intents and purposes unadulterated AOSP too.
I suppose if one wants to split hairs, one could make the argument that these aren't pure AOSP. Then one would have to head over to the OnePlus forum and flash the new , very buggy 5.0 ROM (Not!).

Best to stay away from the opo forums for the serious stuff, the point I was making was just that you have either AOSP or CM and then everything comes from there really,
You need to be aware as you can have serious problems if you flash the wrong type of kernel, I came from a nexus so for me there was quite an important difference and had to watch what version you flashed, amazed actually at how slow development has been with lollipop, as you say a lot of work needed to find one with some customisations, will stick to kikkat till an offiical lollipop S version appears for the bacon
Best lolipop rom
TO me http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...m-bliss-stalk-team-bliss-bacon-10-28-t2921057
this is the best lolipop rom for onepluso ne buddy
Hey, I can't a find a clean and stable aosp rom for bacon that suits my needs, so I want to build my own. But I need help, I havent built roms before. Only compiled another custom rom once.
Would compiling aosp (+ caf & cm to make it work?) for bacon require much programming skills?
I would be very grateful if someone would assist me in making of the rom, or at least point me in the right direction.
I would only need some very basic custom features in the rom. (clear all recents, cm snap camera ...)
I have Ubuntu 15.04 with a little over 100gb of free space, installed as dual boot besides windows 10-
Thank you.
Also please do not recommend other "aosp" roms in this thread for me to download and install, I want to make my own.
If you want a nexus experience I can recommend AOSP-CAF you . It is basicly barebone AOSP without any additional features.

I found this ROM http://downloads.techexhibeo.ski/Android/LegacyServer/aosp-mm6.0.1-20160621-bacon.zip, I don't know who is the creator of it, but it is great. The perfect aosp rom for bacon. I'm using it now, seems very stable too. I recommend it for anyone who wants a clean aosp experience.
