There are two types of custom Roms. There is the Roms based on the OEM version of android (touchwiz from Samsung and Sense from HTC) and AOSP. AOKP is an AOSP ROM not another type of ROM like MIUI is. With that being said we don't make recommendations as it leads to debates about which ROM is the best. Also everyone here has had different experiences with each ROM to really be of any help. Lastly your thread will be closed by the moderators.

The reason i ask is cause i go to this lnk and only shows aokp on one. As for a new person its a bit confusng.

AOKP is just a modified version of CM. aokp.co: http://aokp.co/devices/d2vzw You'll want Milestone. Keep in mind this is 4.3 and it's based off CM10... there isn't an AOKP for 4.4/CM11 yet.
If you're talking about AOSP-based roms, which are different than CM-based, there's a few (Gummy, Liquid, Carbon, SlimKat...); my daily driver is Gummy with the dkp kernel.

That isn't up to date as there have been at least 20 or so ROMs since then. As I said before AOKP is an AOSP ROM albeit a popular one. AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project. Roms like CyanogenMod,AOKP,ParanoidAndroid and PAC-man are all AOSP ROMs. AOKP is a specific AOSP ROM. The AOKP ROM on that link is the official one created by team AOKP. Beepea206 CyanogenMod is still an AOSP based rom as it is based off the official Android releases like all other AOSP ROMs. Yes they have added their own code and features like the ROMs I have mentioned in this post but they are still AOSP based ROMs. It is like Ubuntu and other Linux OSes they all have added their own codes and features but all are still Linux OSes.

Is there a up to date list on the ROMs than. Since I find ones like the one I posted is out of date. Or a master list of aokp ROM and aosp ROMs and such?

Wrong, albeit semantically.
- AOSP roms are those compiled directly from Google's sources, with device and hardware files modified to work with the rom. For a rom to be 'pure AOSP', it has to be free from any CM repositories, which is why all the non-CM roms right now are 'AOSP-based'... they use the hardware and device repos from CM. As it stands right now, there are no 'pure' AOSP roms for the d2vzw.
- AOKP is a kang (aka the 'K' in AOKP, or Android Open Kang Project) of CM, generally adding more features like the navigation bar and status bar tweaks. There are also AOKP builds that 'cherrypick' things from CM and the AOKP githubs.
- CM is a custom, modified version of the AOSP framework with a slew of hacks and mods; it's essentially a derivative/variant version of Android, drawing on the open-source nature of the OS to create a new one.

No their isn't any at the moment. You will have to go through original Android development section and it isn't a list per se .

LOL at you not liking AOSP ROMs LMAO what do you think that CM9 is?
AOSP = Android Open Source Project. It is when Google releases the source code to a particular version of android (GB, HC, ICS) and this source is adapted to your device by usually taking existing kernels (or kernel source code) and drivers for your device and making the Google source code run, pretty much without many additions..although, if you like spice, you will find it in an AOSP ROM. Asus' Stock ROM is also based on Googles source, but then Asus is not obligated to release it's proprietary source (what it adds to the OS that Google AOSP ROM did not have, bloatware, drivers, etc). Therefore what we are able to do in a ROM based on Asus' is limited compared to what can be done in an AOSP ROM. Some are stable, some aren't..it isn't a function of it being an 'AOSP' ROM lol it's just how developed or underdeveloped the ROM is. CM9 for TF101 is way more unstable than CM9 for my Epic, they are both AOSP and from the same source even, and they run differently- because they are at different stages of development and being developed by different teams of people.
Don't be so quick to scoff at AOSP ROMs..they are not all the same, and nothing in the term 'AOSP' means 'unstable' or otherwise anything to be afraid of.

Ok thank you very much for your perfect explanation. But why do you say that CM9 for TF101 is unstable? In the relative thread i read that the users are very satisfied by this rom.
Dont lol at me! hehehe
I know CM9 is AOSP.. that was the first and only AOSP Rom I ever tried..
I'm not scoffing AOSP Roms off I just didn't see the advantage but I didn't know that Asus doesn't release it's proprietary source.
Don't be so quick to lol at people apart from that it was a good reply... I might give them a go again in the future

Custom ROMs not based on CM for Moto G available

Hi Folks,
Maybe it´s a silly questions, but are there other non-Stock ROMs that CM-based available for our Moto G?
All other Custom ROMs are somehow based on or related to CM, or?
Am I right? Can somebody bring some light to my dark brain?
THX
There are other roms that aren't stock nor based in CM. The paranoid (PA) and the AOSP are examples.

PA is not an example, it uses the CM sources for our device. In fact, the builds we get - AOSPAL - are all based on CM's device specific repos and only use the frameworks and settings from PA.
AOSP is only ROM not based on CM.
To answer the OP, no there are no other type of ROMs for our device as of now. Either the ROM is based on CM or on Stock. We also have a firefox OS port, but that is also based on CM sources.

Only the nexus devices have PA based on AOSP. Our device is supported by AOSPA legacy ( use device repos from cm and are therefore called legacy).
If you don't believe me, check the github of AOSPA legacy.

There are a lot of them. Look in both Development sections for 5.0 in the title. Vanir is probably the most stable and bug free right now > http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/orig-development/official-vaniraosp-t2890749

Its different they get the sources and do cm stuff to them, generally you will get kernels that are for AOSP or CM based ROMS as a result

I'm currently running Vanir ROM. It is indistinguishable from vanilla AOSP (on my Moto X). And for most users, the current iterations of CM12 are so lightly customized that they are, for all intents and purposes unadulterated AOSP too.
I suppose if one wants to split hairs, one could make the argument that these aren't pure AOSP. Then one would have to head over to the OnePlus forum and flash the new , very buggy 5.0 ROM (Not!).

Best to stay away from the opo forums for the serious stuff, the point I was making was just that you have either AOSP or CM and then everything comes from there really,
You need to be aware as you can have serious problems if you flash the wrong type of kernel, I came from a nexus so for me there was quite an important difference and had to watch what version you flashed, amazed actually at how slow development has been with lollipop, as you say a lot of work needed to find one with some customisations, will stick to kikkat till an offiical lollipop S version appears for the bacon
Best lolipop rom

Building an AOSP rom for bacon

Hey, I can't a find a clean and stable aosp rom for bacon that suits my needs, so I want to build my own. But I need help, I havent built roms before. Only compiled another custom rom once.
Would compiling aosp (+ caf & cm to make it work?) for bacon require much programming skills?
I would be very grateful if someone would assist me in making of the rom, or at least point me in the right direction.
I would only need some very basic custom features in the rom. (clear all recents, cm snap camera ...)
I have Ubuntu 15.04 with a little over 100gb of free space, installed as dual boot besides windows 10-
Thank you.
Also please do not recommend other "aosp" roms in this thread for me to download and install, I want to make my own.
If you want a nexus experience I can recommend AOSP-CAF you . It is basicly barebone AOSP without any additional features.

AOSP rom for bacon would basically mean cyanogenmod without cyanogenmod features, so reading your requirements i say you try the AOSP CAF rom or the Krexus rom, both the roms fit yuor requirements (read their respective threads). good luck

so you're saying those roms are Cyanogenmod huh?
I found this ROM http://downloads.techexhibeo.ski/Android/LegacyServer/aosp-mm6.0.1-20160621-bacon.zip, I don't know who is the creator of it, but it is great. The perfect aosp rom for bacon. I'm using it now, seems very stable too. I recommend it for anyone who wants a clean aosp experience.

I'll be building a ROM for our Device but you choose the right ONE

Just post and vote for the best ROM that you actually wanna see and I'll try to make one.
Thinking of:
Validus
Paranoid
Pac-man
Dirty Unicorns
MOD EDIT: Closed at OP's request
Pac-man would eat among of them...
I'd vouch for Paranoid Android.
Will you only build the rom? How about patching, maintaining and developing ROMS that already exist for the device?
either slim or paranoid, I really love minimalist rom
Both Roms Are actually Good
Prefer Paranoid
Will Also Maintain the ROM
Voted for Dirty Unicorns, but what would be better between those 3?
About maintaning the ROM... OTA please? <3
In my Opinion I was aiming for Validus haha but I was so mixed up with thoughts that I needed opinions, OTAs will be available after the ROM gets Official which it'll take a bit so will start as always with Unofficial Builds
For me any slim based, but feature rich ROM, so not too sure what ones from the list fall into that.
If its up to date and stable i'll try it out anyway.
Thanks for building another ROM for this nice little device of ours.
Already tried DU, paranoid, and pac man in my previous device. So for markw I'll be happy to try the Validus
I know right?
Aosp rom bro. I don't like cm based roms
Sent from my Redmi 4 Prime using Tapatalk
I like pure roms. My dream is AospExtend on redmi 4 prime
Paranoid
Copperhead OS please
Seems a nice way to approach, but it doesn't appeal to me.
AOSP based rom wiht xperia apps like launcher video music player, keyboard and gallery
Paranoid would be nice to have for markw.
So nothing anymore?
