Let me say first I am a Samsung fanboy. But we all who adopted the gear 2 should come together to sue Samsung for a faulty product. After scanning over many pages of issues we are having with the gear 2 around application installs which seem to be based on some roulette wheel of success of an app will install or not, battery issues, having to do numerous factory resets, and with an even bigger slap to the face, bringing out another watch yet again in about 3 months. We have been sold on crap that we can't even take back. Clearly there is a product or software issue where many people have the same phones, many with stock Roms even on same carriers having mismatched results on app installs. Also while using Samsung phones. I believe this is a shot in the gut to the overall care that Samsung has for its customers. Which doesn't look good as we get in this viscous cycle of new this of what we sold you just a few months ago even though what we originally sold you we still haven't been fixed. Spending 200 plus for a digital watch with some really nice features doesn't justify inconsistency of product or a faulty os. We need to send a message to Samsung that this is not acceptable. And the biggest thing that has even impacted me, I have bought several apps that will not successfully install and I am no able to get a refund for. And this has happened to many people. We surely would be all over apple or any other maker if these things where going on. Yes Samsung makes great products that we love to have, but this watch and trend is totally unacceptable!
I would add to this claims for false advertisement about available apps. Example: Runtastic, mentioned in all the press releases as launch partner, still doesn't have a Gear 2 compatible app.
Also, cleverly planted hints for non-Samsung device support, which pushed many people with unsupported devices to buy the watch. Does anyone really think now this will ever happen?
I have no faults worth suing over plus you cold always just return the product no one forced you to keep the device I kean it isnt even a year old .why people love to sue if a big company like apple is in court for years how far you think wed get wake up and stop complaining.

While the Gear 2 line has been pretty popular, for what it is, it functions. It's the extra stuff that's the problem. Hardware is sound and the built-in software works (ymmv). Everything else is just gravy. I think the only way it would have traction if the hardware or built-in software had significant problems. The only thing I've installed is watchfaces, so to me, it's fine how it is. However, I do know that people are getting pretty fed up with not having access to the things everyone else does. I guess I'm just on the fence on it.
Well if everyone thought like you, nothing would ever get better and more people will get screwed over. If you are cool excepting just anything continue on till you personally get screwed. Don't worry I will be sympathetic to your situation. Next time I suggest you fully read before commenting. This comment was for diamantirecos.

Yeah so I read again just to please you and I stand by my comment .if you have the time and money to try to sue a giant like samsung go ahead. Plus if its faulty just factory reset and sell on ebay simple. And like I said we are early users is a new device what do you expect. But at the end of the day all users are different some issues some not. Thats life and I really can care less. I have better advice for you go get leagal advice about if you even have a case .

Umm yea many mayor net source articles also state that mostly everything doesnt really work. What a shame because the hardware is up to par but the software not so much.

@henklbr: you're in Austria, right? The problem is it's not available anywhere else... I'm sick and tired trying to reach out to Runtastic and get a clear answer when the heck it's going to be available for everyone else.
Edit: sorry, just noticed you're from Netherlands. So it's available there too. What the f... is going on with Runtastic? Why can't they release the freaking app worldwide?

I'm perfectly happy with my watch, and thanks to these forums I knew exactly what I was getting before I bought it .
If I didn't like it, I would take it back.
I know these watches don't do half of what they will do in a year or two, but in the meantime at least I have a toy to play with. And thanks to XDA, it's a fun pastime for a nerd like me. And for $150 for the Neo, I really can't complain.

I just came from the Galaxy gear, although i would like to file a suite for getting 2 defective galaxy gears with bad cameras and making me pay the diffrence for the new watch.
Coming from the original gear the only thing I don't like about the gear 2 is the weak vibration. The sound is louder when on a call, charging is much easier, you can change the bands although I can't find any locally or even in the US for that matter. I think Samsung should have given previous gear owners something 20 app store credit something to that effect.
I hear ya, I had the gear2 and switched to the Neo and like not having the camera liability.
It is a nice toy and does what I need for now, but I can't wait til the watch has its own sim. Would be nice not having to carry a phone around everywhere. I frequently answer calls and spritz thru my email while my phone sits in my briefcase.

You just have to find a band that fits its not a special band . Take ot to the watch store and ask the sales person.

I do not agree with you. If the device IS faulty, samsung should be responsible.
Perfectly happy here. None of these problems I've read.. Except for battery life. But I use the exercise part at least an hour a day so that probably drains it a bit.

Simple way to improve battery life. 1. Turn off wake up motion. Theres no need to have your wach wake everytime you raise your hand. 2. Put the screen off time to 5 sec. 3. Lower brightness to 2.. thats should give you about 3 days . But honestly you could charge yor watch every night its not a big deal I mean who sleeps with a watch anyway. With these setting I dont im not a power user lol. But you know what these watch is alot more useful than a $8900 plus rolex that only tells time.

Without even commenting on your issues, here's what you can expect. The LG G2x had major problems related to its battery circuitry which were proven by a third-party engineer. It affected almost all the phones T-Mobile sold. I had one, I know. Legal action was threatened starting in early 2011 and a class action suit was filed mid year. The case settled in December 2013. Everyone got $19 but I'm sure the lawyers got amply compensated.
So carry on Norma Rae. Keep in mind Samsung's lawyers are probably tougher and more plentiful than LG's. And in the G2x's case there were real demonstrated issues.
wow.... LG settled out for a whopping $19 per each affected user and the "issues" still didn't get fixed.
you gotta love how some people's first reaction is to SUE when something doesn't quite work the way they think.... everyone has an itch i guess
good luck with this half baked idea.... im sure there's a bunch of clauses within the EULA that protect companies from these types of people.
you know that little part of new software that states "check here if you agree to the terms and conditions within" and you do without actually spending 6 days reading it? well there you go.
Some of you and your posts are kind of sad of your general overall lack of concern for what is an legitimate problem. A prime example of how the larger group crushes the smaller and supported by few in the pockets. I would not be surprised if you have a vested interest in Samsung or the watch itself. I personally don't wish to spend my time addressing the flawed thinking you show with your comments and how it directly relates to how we have simple violation of consumer producer relationship. If you have had a good experience, I am glad for you. Go start your own thread ayn share. We all got our own opinions, but save them for an appropriate thread that reflects it. I would rather keep this thread clean and not garbled up with useless statements of why you disagree with clearly a legitimate concern of a faulty product that has affected many people.
Might I also mention what I forgot to mention in my previous post, ever since I downloaded some application, don't know which one. Because I have reset both my phone and watch several times and flashed all 3 firmwares for the gear 2. But when my watch is on and connected to my phone anytime I get a call my phone automatically answers. Only when the gear is connected. I thoroughly checked and troubled shooted ever gesture based and auto answer feature on the gear 2 and my phone and even turned them all off. This is a very serious liability concern for me being I work in a multi billion dollar business in which very sensitive information could be leaked and place myself as well as my company in a serious litigation suit. Needless to say I cannot use the watch in my work environment anymore at least connected to my phone, which for now makes in my work environment my watch a over glorified digital watch which cannot function as it was sold and bought to do. Being myself a day one adopter and purchaser of the gear, returning it is not an option nor am I willing to reset it and sell it on eBay to be an issue for someone else as previously suggested. The overall lack of consideration of this matter and suggesting I should dump it on someone else is a prime example of how things like this continue to happen. I feel sorry for any of you who may happen to get taken advantage of and not find any assistance. But I assume you'll just dump it off on someone else instead of making the 'causer' accountable. Smh.
Snickers, what phone are u using and is it stock os? Most of the folks who are NOT using custom roms are working exactly as designed. Mine has worked flawless on my Note 3 rooted stock. No real mods to the phone. If you are not stock and you are not on compatible phone, no lawyer would even consider your case. Using outside of design parameters is instant dismissal from any court in a case like this. Now for the other person wanting to hit Samsung because of aftermarket software companies NOT delivering, you have to take action against them, unless any of those companies are wholly-owned by Samsung themselves. Either case, you would be hard pressed to find a litigation team willing to attempt this.

OPINION PIECE / by quicksite
Tech Blogs: Slow Down, Get Your Acts Together, Focus on Reporting, You Can't Even Remember Your Own Stories from 7 Months Ago
Read Write Web is one of my favorite tech blogs. To me it has some of the finest writing and reporting around.
They are unlike my favorite battering targets: engadget, gizmodo and the like -- the advertising-driven slimeballs who have stakouts all over the world ready to beat someone else by half a day to breathlessly report on the latest new gadget "Seen in the wild"..
"Whaddaya got, whaddaya got, whaddaya got? You got any phones here, whaddya got fa' me?"

You can see them frantically poking the back alleys and drunk people in case they have a secret demo phone on them. SCORE 1 for the new iphone! Score 2 for going to JAIL!
Fine. They do a decent job overall, to me, generally, they are just like Hollywood tabloid journals, just instead of it being focused on Kristen Stewart the actress from TWILIGHT, it's the latest sexy phone from HTC. Same thing. Ohhh, let's undress it.... WE WERE FIRST!
Read Write Web is NOT in that category -- they do real tech industry reporting.
So, imagine my shock seeing this story today:
Google to Discontinue Nexus One
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/google_to_discontinue_nexus_one.php
The CONTENT itself is not shocking at all. The distribution method Google stuck with so stubbornly, despite being told repeatedly they needed to do things like offer phone support, have working demo models of the N1 at the Carrier Stores that sell plans linked to that phone (like T-Mobile USA) -- was seriosuly flawed, thus NO SHOCK. Makes perfect sense. The shock is: That someone would be shocked that the Nexus One did not sell through the roof.
That's what this Post is about.
I actually saw it through my twitter stream, with this shorter note from @rww
How did the Nexus One came #2 on our poll for Best of the Web 2010, yet Google couldn't sell it? Explain, people! http://bit.ly/9oQysT

I decided to answer him, in my typical way-too-wordy way --- and by adding this preface here at XDA, it's even wordier. How bout that.
My answer is in the next post, which I posted to the twitter-companion "twitlonger.com" -- as though made in heaven for me.
NOTE: After I got my HTC Desire, I started using twitter for first time, and used the name XDAdesire. Another XDA-er in the DESIRE forum here has helped me try to post some relevant stuff about the Desire... but it's spotty, some days stuff, some days, nothing. http://twitter.com/XDAdesire

My response to RWW's STORY: http://bit.ly/9oQysT
Explain! **ARE YOU SERIOUS? No theories even necessary.
The only problem here, I think, is SHORT MEMORIES -- i.e., people (you, unfortunately, and I say unfortunately because I am astounded...
The quality of writing and analysis at RWW is generally second to none... thus I am shocked at how there is such a disconnect here with something so unmysterious and so measurable) cannot even remember events and circumstance a mere 7 months ago in twitter culture where assembly line constancy of data-pushing is all that seems to count.
Remembering? Context? Connecting dots from probably stories RWW themselves published back in Jan 2010? I guess that's off the plate now.
** I will bet $1000 that RWW has a story on the answer to this elementary question** The arrogance of Google's refusal to supply PHONE SUPPORT TO CONSUMERS... which directly translates to a reluctance to put money into something that won't be supported by live human beings.
#2... even worse. Did you know -- or can you not remember -- TO THIS DAY, a customers cannot SEE OR FEEL OR TRY a nexus one in his or her hand before shelling out $550 for phone. And you're surprised at lackluster sales?
Do you remember WHY customers can't do this -- and how ABSURD the reason is for this?
Here let me help you:
Google went exclusive with T-Mobile USA, the carrier who launched Android and the G1. I was about the import the Hero from UK since T-Mobile USA wouldn't carry it (dumb), when all of sudden in January is the announcement they will carry the Nexus One on its network.
I raced over to my T-Mobile store to see it. Here's what they told me:
"We don't have any"
I said: "Oh yeah, I guess it's too soon. When are you getting them in?"
"That's just it. We WON'T be getting them in. They will only be sold online by Google. And we are just the network."
Me: "Right, I understand that. I didn't mean the phone to BUY from you, I knew about buying it online. I meant the store demo phones to just feel how it feels. I'm especially interested in how the soft keys work, vs the Hero's hard keys"
Tmo: "No, we mean the stores won't be getting any to Demo"
Me: "You gotta be kidding me?"
Tmo: "No.. We think it's stupid too, but (sarcastic) 'whaddawe know? we're just the sales guys'. We've been checking with corporate all day long. People have been flooding in here asking the same question wanting to see the phone. They say we won't be getting any."
Me: "Of all the stupidest things in the world. I'd love to find out whose decision that was. Google's or Tmobile's, but as dumb as Tmobile can be, they DO know how to sell phones, so I am going to guess Google. They probably figured, know-it-all-engineers that they are "why should we spend money to ship a perfectly good phone to 1000 T-mobile retail stores across USA when we can sell those phones online?"
COmpletely missing the point that unlike people who do 100% of their shopping online based on 5-star reviews and collaborative filtering, people who get out into the sunshine actually like to touch merchandise that costs $500, and feel how it functions in their hands, especially a phone/PDA/ touchscreen which has all sorts of ergonomic peculiarities specific to different people.
So --- STRIKE #1 -- Wow, I wonder why they didn't sell so many phones despite their being TOP-RATED, can anyone figure this out? Yes. Had they put these phones in T-Mobile stores, they would theoretically COULD have outsold the iphone4 -- but that's a theorectical. In reality no, since they do not understand human beings like Apple does, and thus do not understand human marketing.
STRIKE #2 --- no PHONE SUPPORT, tied directly to HUBRIS (see also Steve Jobs, or "We Know Best" under wikipedia)
I live in San Francisco is neighborhood filled with tech workers, many of whom work for Google. Every day they gather at one of the neighborhood's cafe's and during the mornings, at several intervals, a huge bus arrives, the kind you travel in luxury through Europe on, tinted windows everywhere, climate controlled, wifi. Earbuds come out of laptops as bus approaches and get replugged into N1 phones as they file onto the bus for the 30 minute drive to Mountain View. There are people from the Google Maps team, Google Earth team, Android Team, and even, i discovered one day, someone from Google corporate PR. Generally very nice people when you stop and talk.
In this same neighborhood there are other tech folks like Craig of that list. And so you never know who you might talk to if they have their earplugs out.
WHY ARROGANCE? ANDROID WAS KING OF THE WORLD, or starting to be...
OCTOBER 2009 - The amazing DROID teaser campaign from Motorola and Verizon!
NOV-DEC 2009 - Huge sales of the Droid made Christmas 2009 an amazing success story for Android, Motorola, and Verizon
and those VERIZON 3G ADS were the first sign of the changing world where the teflon coated iPhone, champion this, champion that, was suddenly assaulted, along with its carrier, out of nowhere, for the first time ever putting them on the defensive.
MOTOROLA PUT ITSELF BACK ON THE MAP. so did verizon, who was a late starter in the touchscreen game.
JANUARY 2010 -- No sooner had Christmas closed out... then fresh off the heels of that huge Android success, Google enters the fray strategically following up with ITS OWN smart phone -- having let the droid have its own stage for holidays. Suddenly, weeks after DROID was hailed "the best Android phone yet", it was already being dethroned by what many NOW considered the best yet. NEXUS ONE, Android done right, with best HTC hardware, great processor.
WEEK 1 of this story: GOOGLE WAS PRAISED TO HIGH HEAVEN!
WEEK 2 of this story:
WEAVING BACK THE T-MOBILE STORY:
a Dramatic Turnaround: problems with connectivity, problems with T-mobile customers feeling ripped off at pricing model, "how to use the phone" problems. T-mobile's lines FLOODED, but they kept having to tell customers "we don't know anything about this phone, we cannot service and aupport it, you have to contact Google"... And thus the rapid runaround began. People calling HTC, and refrerred back to Tmobile etc.
The Press in THIS case (NOT NOW, which is my point ---- how can you miss this?) was ON IT: Google, what's up, where is your phone support? ... And the glitter was off. Week 2 stories were about how Google was flubbing this debut, and proving they were a search company who knew nothing about selling electronics.
But google was so arrogant. When asked, they said "sorry, NO phone support." Press said surely you are joking. People wanted phone support and the industry was aghast -- WHAT? no phone support? T-mobile is taking a bath in public anger, and HTC is getting hit up, but what does Google do? Just like JOBS, they say, we will NOT offer phone support.
Industry .. and especially me... (eyes buggin' out) WHAT ??
Google: That's right, you heard us. We will not.
Industry: But all you've given people are byzantine FAQs and web help and email like all the gmail help etc which just angers customers. You can't treat cell phone customers this way. They expect to get someone on the phone. That's the way it works.
Google: Too bad. That's the way it USED to work. We're doing something new here. And you got to break some eggs here to make a souffle. We thnk there are other ways to sell phones, other models. We know we can solve this by being smarter...
--- I DID run into this PR guy from Google's corporate office, in my neigborhood one evening, and i asked him, incredulously, was this true? Were they just going to stonewall this and keep to their plan despite public outcry they are not happy?
(He was really very nice -- and actually one of the few marketing guys at Google. And he reminded me: Google, as you know, is an engineering company, the senior mgmt are all engineers, engineers make all these decisions, they do not think in consumer terms. I accept that and love the company and we do most things really well, but some things are blind spots, and I'll leave it to you to decide in this case)
Me: So they are NOT going to open a phone call center immediately?
Him: I can guarantee you, 100%, that will never happen. They, being engineering minded, will only double down their efforts to make the web-based support solve the problems...
Me: I don't believe this. They are seriously believing their webpage FAQ methodology is "sufficient"? And with smarter keyword detection and algorithms for routing customer entries down more pre-written FAQ's, they will solve user issues in fast responsive ways that make customers happy?
Him: Yes. Well, solve their problems, yes. Make them happy, i'm not so sure.
=========
So THAT's the story -- the PUBLIC REJECTED THIS MODEL.
That's the reason for lackluster sales.
But no, not one tech journal has put 2 and 2 together? My god. You all have regurgitated their press releases as "disappointing sales"....
Before writing your blog entry, did you stop to think: Hmm, what are the factors involved in their SALES CHANNEL that could impact the sales volume?
/[email protected]

Man, this is definitely the hardest thing I've ever decided to post to XDA...
Long story not-so-short: I won a GC to Best Buy for 500$ from a local gaming establishment...(read: illegal slot-machine parlor type place).
I had no idea what to get, as I already have a jillion Android devices/tables/phones/accessories and so on...
On a whim, I decided to just get an iPad 2, (just the 16GB, WIFI-only version, just to kinda see what all the hype was all about, and also due to the fact that I had played a couple of games on the store demos and was pretty impressed.)
Mind you, (and if you have ever read any of my anti-Apple rants on XDA) this was my FIRST time owning anything from the company, and I hadn't really touched an I-anything since the mid-eighties, when I used an original Mac in my high school computer lab for writing assignments..
Now, having no recent experience whatsoever with "today's" iOS, upon first use of thie thing I was greatly impressed just with the slickness of the interface overall, and the fact that the first couple of FPS's I legally bought from the app store looked and ran flawlessly (oh yeah, that Temple Run thing is also like video-crack).
I was pretty floored already, but when I decided to jailbreak it and install the basics like Cydia, installous, and Dreamboard, that's kinda when "**** got real".
I realized that many of the arguments I used online when dismissing iOS as a "real" option for someone who is into device hackery as much as I am suddenly dissolved...
No app drawer, or widgets?
No longer the case, solved by a Dreamboard theme...
No live wallpapers, or custom keyboards?
Same story.
ONLY able to use a proprietary Market for apps, music, books, movies, etc?
Solved by Installous and Cydia.
Bonus?
I can theme this thing to look and feel just like a Honeycomb tablet:
For instance, here's my current setup on this thing, and I'm really just scratching the surface of learning what can be done with it:

Here's a page that shows a couple of more themes I can 'one-click' add:
And here's a freaking app-drawer on an iOS device, something I didn't know was possible:
Basically, I'm just "coming out" and admitting that I'm actually quite smitten with this iPad, which is something I NEVER thought I would say:
(I still couldn't EVER use an iPhone as a daily because there are still a ****ton of limitations compared to Android, so that would never happen, but I gotta say, that for a tablet, even compared to my other Android tablets, right now this is my favorite....)
Please, don't hate me, fellas...(but have fun with the obvious flames that are to be expected....I just had to give props where props were due.)
Anyone else out there with a similar experience?

I have an itouch and I've used a number of iPads they are nice I'm considering getting one but I'm waiting a bit more just to see if the rumors about the iPad 3 are true. I've already got apps in iTunes that will work that I bought so not a big deal. To each their own a lot of people hate Apple I do on certain things but they do actually make some good products.
Nothing wrong with a device that makes you happy, regardless of the make/os.
Ill admit to having one for a week, but my reaction was different. After having a galaxy tab 10.1 I couldn't adjust and even with jail breaking I hated it.
Hope it continues to keep you satisfied. What most diehards on both sides often forget is there's room for both makes in the world.
The best device will always be whatever makes you happy.
Congrats on your purchase.
Mazook...i would have never thought it possible! Well it is a great device so have fun and enjoy. People bicker alot about apple/android and which is better but i feel both are great. So why not just enjoy all the great mobile tech we have available and appreciate it for what it all is......AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing man.

Nice purchase! iPads are pretty powerful and useful. I do think it's a bit ironic that you've themed it to look and perform like an Android tablet
lol get to making an asop android 4.0 and we got us a real tablet
I don't get why people get on here to brag about their ipads and iPhones. Really now.
Now that right there is a damn sexy setup for an iPad. Jailbreaking was definitely a must for me on my last 2 iOS devices. People can hate on Apple all they want (like I do ) but they do make high quality products.

My butthole still itches....
Thinking of writing a post about it.
.
iPads are OK, as long as you can never ever ever EVER touch iTunes. That's the deal breaker for me. I can't stand that POS. My wife has an unmodded iPad, and every time I have to update her machine, iTunes pisses me off. Heck, it even pisses her off because her bible software (Olive Tree) seems to lose settings after a major OS rev. I've had to fight with the stupid thing to get her purchases from OT back onto her device. The device itself isn't bad, although it's pretty limited for me, but iTunes is the debil, Momma!
Well since we are confessing... it was actually me who chopped down the cherry tree. George Washington is innocent! Whew! I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders!

Are we really so engaged in fake-warfare with cellphones that threads such as these are the norm at XDA?
Just curious help me out here.
I love my iPad 2. I have played with practically every other tablet out there, I still think it's the only one worth getting.

lol...because that's the only thing my brain knows how to use: I can manipulate through home screens, sling thru apps no prob with an Android setup: it's all I've ever known: seriously, until I put that simple little Xoom theme on it, I was moving thru screens on it like a retarded baboon might: (no offense to any retarded baboons out there).
Also, to Phatman: not trying to come on XDA to "glorify" this thing: I was just pleasantly surprised by something from a company that, in the past, I always (rightfully!) bashed because of their business model and completely proprietary products: I'm just showing that I found what a difference a jailbroken device can make: I'm not selling or advocating the purchase of one: Hell, I thought I'd be the LAST person on Earth to ever own one: the ONLY idevice I've ever purchased before was a Bluetooth keyboard from Apple that I bought from Walmart, at like 2AM to test out on a Nook Color when CM first got it working: they had no other Bluetooth keyboards from other manufacturers available, and it took me like 20 minutes of just staring at the package to make up my mind a "go thru with the purchase", with all the "ethical issues" the entire buying process was creating for me....
Trust me, bro: this was far more "confession-time" than "finding new religion-time".
Edit: Robzilla: thanks for the tip about iTunes: haven't used it: now I'll know not to use it in the future.

iOS is NO DOUBT a fantastic product and device. but 2 things do bother me, and both of them are really more about business
1. i shouldnt have to jailbreak/root a device to customize it... (keyboards, themes, launchers, etc)
2. i REFUSE to buy products from a business who conducts themselves in such a sleazy manner. just like i cant stand the fanboy who justifies apples ethics because "they are superior". sounds a lot like a certain Pro-Aryan leader of the past...
other than that, im glad you are happy with it! remember, i hate APPLE, not you.

The iPad is a great product but Apple sucks as a company that's all
The iPad destroys Android tablets. The transformer prime is less usable than the iPad from early last year. I prefer Android on the phone over iOS, but Google and the manufacturers don't get what made the iPad successful, stability, convenience, and the apple store warranty process when something goes wrong, not specs and features. People go to a laptop/desktop when they want specs and features. If your customer has to pay shipping for defects or read 50 page filled forum with complaints, then you are doing it wrong.

If Samsung would only improve their update policies. People buying an iPad know apple will give them the cool new features for at least 2 years after the sale. Android buyers are becoming paralyzed because they don't know which device will be supported. Anybody with professional sales experience will tell you eliminating obstacles to buying is key, I wish Samsung would realize this.

The phones being released now are awesome out the of the box. SGII running 2.3 is good. Ice Cream update is only going to make the majority angry. Why do people think that updates that change the look of the device equates to good? It doesn't. On XDA we are an extreme minority. I wish more people would realize this. GPS works, phone works, text work, apps are awesome with many choices to pick from so what is wrong with it? Oh... it isn't running the latest android OS and that means the device isn't supported, right? Wrong. We just got another update for random fixes on a already stable device.
Here is my reasoning in regards to Apple projects or Android. If I have to go to the extreme to modify it to my liking then your not getting my money. I will not support locking down my devices. I would enjoy a free Ipad. I'd probably love it. But I'm not going to give Apple any money. I'm not going to give Motorola any love with a locked boot loader either. Or Assassin Creed for the PC, they aren't getting any support from me. The choice between Barnes and Nobles and Amazon Tablet for me is simple, Amazon because they didn't lock the boot loader.
We need to start an "S3 Unlock " campaign on Verizon's and Samsung's facebook and email to make our dissatisfaction more visible. Will this have any impact, I don't know, but it's something easily done with almost no effort that the general consumer and non-development community will easily see.
This has worked in the past with the HTC EVO 3D. If the community can get HTC, a million dollar company to notice, maybe it will work with a billion dollar company.
Why should we send to Samsung when it's Verizon that locked the bootloader? The reason for it is more then likely Verizon will try to pawn it off on Samsung; by saying they locked it or they have to build the unlock tool. So, before this becomes a “blame game” We don't care who is responsible, we just want “Developmental Equality” for all S3's
So as Bob Marley said: “Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!” and take 3 minutes out of your day to help out the community.
What needs to be done:
Post "S3 Unlock or WE Walk" on Verizon's and Samsung's facebook. This would have a greater impact if it were posted everyday! “Don't let them forget about us!”
Email:
Under subject put: “S3 Unlock Bootloader” and in the body put “S3 Unlock ”

I understand what you want to do but alot of this is already being done by alot if angry customers. Verizon doesnt seem to care. All they did was blame Samsung.
Doesn't it make more sense that hitting them with a mass amount of posts and emails would do more than maybe 20 emails a day. It would get more attention if even just 1% of Verizon's customers were to flood them with posts and emails..this would be in the numbers up to 250,000 emails and facebook posts. They could still ignore it, but this would create more negative publicity. This is also why I am asking everyone to flood Samsung as well, eventually hopefully one of them will correct the issue. In time and numbers they will get tired of it and deal with us. Have you sent an email to Verizon or posted on their facebook?
Verizon might not admit that they are wrong, but any company is highly concerned about their public image. Facebook and Twitter can be a valuable tool to fight corporate arrogance.
One more thing to do... everyone should write a review on Verizon's web site slamming the locked bootloader, with a suggestion that this is a great phone on any provider but Verizon. I just clicked on the "Read reviews" link for the 32GB blue S3, and 4 out of the first ten reviews mentioned the locked bootloader.
We might never get them to unlock this particular bootloader, but at a minimum it would make them think twice about the future of locked bootloaders.
Verizon is betting on our apathy, so I applaud anyone who is willing to spend a bit of time keeping the heat on Verizon.
If you're serious about trying to piss them off, create an Anti Samsung Facebook page and / or Twitter Account basically blasting them for ****ty things they do, such as slow updates to products, locked bootloader, etc.
I once complained on Twitter about my GT 10.1 and didn't even direct it to them and I had their twitter person contact me and ask me if there was something they could do to help me.
They don't like knowing people are badmouthing them on social networks.
As for Verizon, they're used to people talking smack on them and don't seem the slightest bit phased.
If you're not part of the solution...you're part of the problem
I mean I guess anything's worth a try...but I don't think Verizon cares.

They seem to hate me. Emailed the CEO about the bootloader, got the standard letter in the mail about "network security" from some high chair rep. His problem is he said "feel free to call with questions" in the letter, as well as his number. I have called him 5 times in the past 2 weeks, always leaving a message. I have still yet to get a call back. I wont stop til I can voice my opinion and get some answers.
I've been tweeting and posting on their facebook pages that I am unhappy about the locked boot loader and spyware on the phone.
It of course won't do any good, but maybe if other non dev/hacker types see the posts they will inquire or think twice.

Why they even try to lock them I don't even get. It just seems like a waste of their time and resources. Just look at the s3, it was basically cracked before release and we already can do just about anything we want on it. It makes them look bad and does nothing and it makes even less sense when they have unlocked phones on their network. Bunch of dummies if you ask me

If my x2 bootloader wasn't locked down like it is, ii wouldn't have purchased a new phone. Hardware is staying viable for a longer time than they would like, but, by locking down the software used they can obsolete your device long before the hardware is obsolete. Those who are savvy enough to hack it and put what they want on it also upgrade quick to the newest hardware for the wow factor and vzw knows this. Locking the device down prevents people like me from upgrading software easily, thus forcing a hardware upgrade- to achieve my desire for a software upgrade.
It's quite simple really. Phone sales. If any Joe-Schmoe could upgrade their droidx2 to jellybean, they wouldn't see that phone sale. No phone sale = no new 2 year contract.
They don't market the hardware specs at all like they market the OS.
It must be worth it to them to lock it down and hope to see a device sold. Henry Ford said he'd give the cars away for free if he can be the only one to sell the parts. Vzw has aligned themselves closely with this mentality.

I have the Verizon Samsung Fascinate that is running Jelly Bean better than some phones out now and this phone only has 384 mb of RAM and has been out for 2 years. Through the efforts of some of the best Devs out there, this phone has lived well longer than it should have (seeing as Samsung/Verizon only supported it up to GB). I've gotten the best battery life at almost 2 days of moderate usage, it's snappy, and still is getting support from the community, because of this I've seen no reason to upgrade other than to have the latest and greatest. A locked boot loader in their mind would prevent this. Keeping hardware, that could last well longer than 2 years, from keeping up with the latest software updates. But with the hard work of the Devs and the community, even with locked bootloaders we can still keep up with the latest (ex. Kexec for VZW GS3). I hope for an unlocked bootloader, but with the great Devs out there I'm not to worried. Waiting for my locked S3 to come in the mail and plan on rooting and customizing it how I want with kexec even with a locked bootloader. I do wish those who have messaged Verizon and Samsung the best of luck. But I won't be holding my breath for them, I'll be holding it for the great Devs and the great community.

I'm really hoping you guys get your bootloader unlocked but speaking from experience I don't think it will work. As you can see in my sig I have owned a lot of Moto/VZW phones and people were spamming FB and twitter and starting petitions and it never did anything. But I wish you luck that you can get somewhere with sammy because god knows VZW doesn't give a sh!t about there customers.

I almost forgot my experiences from the Cliq and Cliq 2, but when Motorola says an update is ready at quarter whatever, they NEVER EVER mean at the beginning of the quarter.

It's Motorola. They say, "unlocked bootloaders soon," they mean "shut up about unlocked bootloaders." They say, "update in Qx," they mean "update in late Qx or the next quarter after that."
Basically, Google needs to shove its hand up Motorola's butt and turn it into a puppet for it to be respectable in any update or development-related areas.
This things of searching for updates every 4 hours is driving me crazy, i want ICS Now Motorola, did you hear that? You locked us down with the bootloader, at least give us updates more frequently, is that so hard ? Just ask to the developers to work more and stop fooling around in the office.

You need to be patient!
Too many people on here are all bent out of shape that they don't have the "official" ICS yet. Heck be glad you will get it at all, whenever it does come, because a whole lot of phones are not getting it at all.
Checking for an update so often is just a waste of time, until we start to hear that others are seeing at least the SOAK, and guess what, that still has not been released to those on the SOAK list.
Again just be patient, it will get here, when it get's here.

There's a big problem with that Jim. I don't know of many instances where it would be acceptable for a company to issue a date for the availability of a product or service, and then push back that deadline multiple times. My clients would ditch me and go with the competition if I ran my business like that.
Which brings me to the part where we should all just be thankful to get ICS at all, because so many other phones will not. Well Jim, I bought a really expensive phone with above average hardware. I would except nothing less than getting ICS in a timely manner. With so much competition around - HTC and your own Samsung - Motorola should be very interested in keeping me happy and loyal, and making sure that my expensive devices are up-to-date and competitive.
That, Jim, is what I should be able to expect from Motorola as a customer. People in the category of 'glad you will get it at all, whenever it does come, because a whole lot of phones are not getting it at all.' - Those are iPhone owners who know they buy a product with restrictions in order to own a 'life style product'.
I will not accept to be treated like this by Motorola, with empty promises of unlocked bootloaders, and repeatedly pushed back deadlines for software releases. That is not good customer care, and Motorola won't be the brand of my next cell phone. And by the looks of it, Jim, you didn't like your Atrix 2 enough to not get a SGS 3 as well.
If I had a SGS 3 I wouldn't really worry about the ICS release for Atrix 2 so much either...

Again, wait for it... wait for it...
You bought the ticket, you take the ride (HST) so therefore, don't go around expecting a mega corporation to listen to your squeaks. You may own a small business, or a semi-large scale one, but regardless, you are nothing more than a speck on the radar of Motorola, nor am I, nor is Jim or any other person here or beyond. That being said, don't expect that just because you had certain expectations that you held prior to, and during your purchase of the ATRIX 2 that you'd get to have your cake and eat it also. Clearly, it ain't so.
Furthermore, companies do this sort of thing all the freaking time, it isn't something new, nor is it unheard of. As they say in the transportation industries, "nothing's certain in the shipping business". Same goes for technology. Software isn't something that is like a shoe, which can be mass produced after testing on a robotic "foot" for a couple of weeks. It has to be fully tested by numerous factorizations both in user capacities and otherwise.
If you feel Motorola owes you a 'timely' delivery of ICS, write them a nice letter. I'm sure it will get opened and read around the time that your letter to Santa Claus arrives to the North Pole. Both are about as useless as the other.
Quit spamming the board with 'who got what when' with a follow-up pouty faced retort about why you have this enormous sense of entitlement to get the update as you see fit.
This ain't the place for that...

Wow I don't even know where to start with how wrong your post is.
I think this is the best comparison.... Say you buy a computer and it comes with windows xp installed and you are told by the store you bought it at that windows 7 is supposed to be out in the 2nd quarter and it is April. Now since it is April are you going to go to that store and whine because Microsoft is "late", or call dell or HP. Guess what there was no promise that windows 7 or 8 is guaranteed to run on your "newish" PC...
I do own my own company and all I provide is services and no products.
If I am late on a project it is not even the same as a company that sells hardware, and gives you the software for... wait for it... free. Even then it is usually 1 upgrade in the smartphone market. Guess what we have had our one upgrade already. Moto owes you nothing. Besides you bought the phone not a copy of android from Motorola/Att. Microsoft NEVER gives you a free upgrade to the next version.
P.S. we are still in the third quarter, and moto is technically not "late" on their delivery, nor have they pushed it back even once, it will still be 3rd quarter, just late 3rd quarter.
Now, grow up and stop posting crap and new threads that have nothing to do with the atrix 2. Or jump in and help dev and get us some great stuff as myself and others have been doing for 10 months now.
Also the ONLY reason I got an sgs3 is because I am a cyanogenmod dev now, and I need a phone that can run official builds. I am still sticking with the atrix 2 and still doing dev work for it.
In other words put up or shut up. By doing what you are doing does not make ics come any faster and it just pisses this community off, because we are not the ones holding it back.
We all need to calm down a bit.. yes nobody is happy with Moto's poicies, the bootloader and all, but as far as ICS is concerned, they have promised us it in Q3 and we are still in middle of it, a whole 45 days to go. One thing that we need to understand is ICS is a big leap from Gingerbread. When ICS was out i thought we can see it on devices in few months, but the fact that CM9 stable is out now, tells us the story.
We made a choice, of choosing A2, instead of many other top dogs of that time. We love the hardware, the capabilities and everything else. Even now when i see the SGS II, the build quality i know i have made the right choice, yeah it aint comforting when i see those guys running plethora of ROMs though.
Bottom line is you made your choice stick to it and wait, wait until Moto gives you ICS.. or start a campaign, better for bootloader unlock though.. that way we dont have to wait this long for updates.
Edit: the most funny part of my post? My signpic
Ps: Apex, calm down a bit mate, you are not going well with these type of posts. Yeah i know most of them are ridiculous but ignoring will be a good idea. And Jim's reputation wont change wee bit with these kind of posts. You guys are rock stars and just keep rocking.

It's appears that you are fond of Note series, why don't you consider about Note 5?
My question is are they going to bring back mSD support?
I really couldn't care less about having a uniframe or metal body if it sacrifices having a mSD slot available. Not to mention the availability to simply swap out a dead battery with a fresh fully charged one.
What's more frustrating is this isn't an issue that requires too difficult a fix to be reasonably implemented. Plenty of other devices have or had spring loaded dot release slots for sd cards as well as simple cards.
A mSD slot is no more vulnerable to issues than a micro usb is. They already ditched the water/weather proofing feature, so that isn't the reason.
Unfortunately, it would seem like they're struggling to find fresh design that host an advancement of the previous generation's features. Instead, we're regressing in utility and technical capabilities in the name of aesthetic appeal (?), I guess?
I, like 95% of the people of earth with a smartphone, keep a case for its protection at least about 90% of the time. The backing of the phone is squarely at the bottom of the list of things to look for in my future purchases.
Ya know what would be really cool? A phone that is glass on the front (screen) and back. Oh yeah, they did that and everyone ended up needing a fancy rubber band slapped around it to keep the antenna from doing its best impression of your old school bunny ears TV antenna, essentially worthless.
A "smart" device such as a mini computer we cutely refer to as a phone must bend form to its function. A car built on the premise of using square tires is going to be a disaster.
I'm not the only and hardly the 1st to voice their displeasure, but what's changed?
Something huge, actually. We're beginning to see an official policy change straight from the top with respect to mSD, or additional storage in general. Google themselves have seen the writing on the wall , and in a full turnabout, the latest dessert offerings from the Android mothership include a host of expanding features and core implementation dealing with greater cohesion of the OS's abilities and use of added storage.
I could go on, but the point being is that something has to give, and I don't think Samsung holds the high card. The largest phone manufacturer for android just dropped SD support in all their new flagship phones. Yet, Google is about to go big into unleashing the use and integration of external memory. Their previous view on the subject is clearly spelled out. All you need to know is that every Nexus phone - Google's self anointed phone for "pure" android, has NEVER had a model with the ability to add additional external storage.
Next year's Nexus will almost certainly be the first to include it.
Hence, I ask, what's the word on Samsung reintroducing mSD support, because I'm almost positive that Samsung will be the first to blink on this subject.
This device won't really impress me much UNLESS Knox is disabled by default. (Not just app I mean in the boatload) and its unlockable. Why doesn't Samsung see that NO ONE LIKES KNOX. (No one in this community anyway) its straight up a pain in the ass for developers. I really REALLY want this to be a good device, but I wait unimpressed BC the s6. There's my rant. -pronax on the nexus 6

KNOX isn't aimed at this type of community, the app itself was originally designed for corporate use designed to protect data with a 1-click "job done" type of mechanism. The issue is that the idea was never really adopted among consumers, besides getting rid of KNOX isn't so hard. As long as a phone has cool mechanisms in which it makes it unique, you can't call it a bad device just because it has specific software pre-installed.
Seems a cool gadget... But seems weird to me as it's not long ago since the launch of s6 and s6+....! And if at all Samsung is planning something like this then it will be a big surprise!
True but the average person doesn't really need Knox. For big corporations, yes, I see how it can be useful I totally understand. I'm saying the bootloader should be unlockable. Maybe a switch in dev settings? I'm referring to the almost uncrackable bootloader and the knox counter not the app.

I think the idea is to make the phone secure. 99% of users don't care if it's easy to root or not. They care if their data is secure. They care whether the thief who steals their phone can access their personal or corporate information. The harder they make it for people to modify or break into the phone, the better their sales will be. They don't cater to us, they cater to the masses who buy their phones.

I don't think your getting my point. English is not my maiden language so excuse please for any spelling mistakes. But I am speaking of the warranty counter in the bootloader (Odin) mode. I do not think that should be there. Ah well you all seem to think I'm off base here. So I will stop commenting

They have the KNOX counter because their warranty specifically states they are not responsible for any changes we make to our phones. As far as they are concerned, changes you make to the root software can negatively impact the phone. From the Warranty listed on their website for my Verizon S6:
"(g) defects or damage resulting from improper testing, operation, maintenance, installation, service, or adjustment not furnished or approved by SAMSUNG, including but not limited to installation of unauthorized software and unauthorized root access, both of which shall void this limited warranty."
That's why they have a KNOX counter. It would be nice if there was a way that we could just say "I don't care about the warranty, let me root my phone." But since there are root methods that can not trigger KNOX....

Yes the point you bring up is a very interesting one because the KNOX counter appearing 0x0 still after root. A custom recovery would be nice for all kinds of reasons but I can't for see it happening. I still think their unauthorized policy thing is too strict. Because of not being able to use the phone. I'll use example of "software not authorized by Verizon..." Because that was just dirty. If it said hello your warrenty is now void but you can still use the phone I think that would be fair. I do reaise that warrentys are expensive and people like them
