I updated my N5 to 4.4.3 through this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/flashable-stock-4-4-3-supersu-t2771010
could not wait for Google to update my N5.
My wife's N5 was updated through official ota.
We are both on TMobile. Same plan. Same zip code.
At home we use to have both LTE signal at 3 bars out of 4.
After the update I noticed this issue where both phones are connected to LTE but now we have 0 or 1 bar out of 4.
often I see No Network at all.
Changing to 3g or 2g will set the phone back on Edge or HSPA.
I think the new baseband messed it up.
Anyone else experiencing this issue on TMO with N5?
Any ideas?
Thanks
I noticed 0-2 bars of LTE at home but mine has always been like that.
i feel like i have less LTE bars than i did prior to the update. In some areas where I have always had LTE coverage, I have HSPA instead. At work I have less bars - I work very close to home (NYC, Manhattan) so i'm not sure if it a problem as a result of the update or service issues in the city - at least in my case.
Bars and signal strength are not necessarily related. The bar is just telling you what the software is interpreting, there have been tons of signal bar hacks that make it more or less accurate.
What I will say is that the LTE drops are something I've seen before even when I paradoxically had "full bars" on LTE only to suddenly have my phone not actually displaying a connection and then it would, after a moment, drop to H+.

Not to sound like a D1ck,But.(I feel your pain)...Finally someone else besides me having issues and I'm on sprint (insert jokes now)the same thing has happened to me my wife my dad my brother and his wife. All of our data handoffs from 3G/LTE hang.I/we have gotten worse LTE.You are not the only 1.I even adb fastbooted back to 4.4.2 to see if the difference is just in my head. It's not.4.4.2 gave me LTE back again.
I am thinking to flash back the previous baseband. Anyone reversed back to the old radio but staying with 4.4.3? I can tell you that the battery life is better with 4.4.3.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Are you seeing that the behavior of handoffs is different or are you losing your data connection more often than before?
I am also seeing emergency calls only in some places like my job, where previously I had 3 bar lte. But at home it stays with 0 to 1bar very unstable. I am convinced is the new base band. Tmo told me to do a switch from 3G back to lte in network settings. After that didn't work they told me to do a full reset to factory settings. Thinking to flash back to . 23 radio.

When I'm on data, my phone is stuck on EDGE or GPRS when it should go up to 3G or H+. I've tried restarting my phone, turning wifi on and off, turning data on and off and made sure my settings looked okay. Any help is appreciated!
Cataclysm 11/26, Franco r14, dalvik patch. And if it's relevant, I'm on Rogers wireless.
I'm not sure but doesn't Rogers use global frequency in which case you need the 821 model?
I've definitely had 3G and H+ on my N5 (abbreviations much?), but it just seems very inconsistent. It'll go from H+ to 3G, back to H+, then cut out completely, then sit on E or G for a while. Just trying to pinpoint the issue because it's getting annoying haha. Perhaps it's the frequency that's screwing it up but that's definitely not my area of expertise. I do have the D820 model if that's helpful.
I'm having exactly the same problem with Fido right now, I tried pretty much everything including
- flashing back the factory image
- tried every modems from the xda thread in the Nexus 5 Android Development section (currently my phone is on the D821 modem but it didn't change anything)
- changing my apn (but it was obvious that this was not the problem since the phone had a edge connection.
I'm really about to call Fido...
Still, I'm kinda glad to see that i'm not alone.
maybe that the data service in your personal area?
Well going back and forth between 3G and H is normal. It picks up H/H+ when receiving/transmitting and goes to 3G when idle to save power.

I called Fido, the technical support told me that they had something that was blocking me from 3G (but he didn't tell me what it was, he just told me that something was blocking me...) I had my beloved H+ back for maybe a whole minute and then it just switched back to Edge network.
All I wanted to know was if many customers have reported the problem or if I were alone...
Maybe if I'm lucky my phone will get back its 3G soon just like you.
I'm still having the issue today.
I called back Fido and they tried different things like desactiving/activing back my line, "updating my line" and more without any success.
Then I called google and told them the problem. They will change my Nexus 5 for a brand new but at the same time I feel like it is a software issue and not an hardward one... Well, we'll see, I never had a problem like that with any other phone before and the Nexus 5 never had any problem with 3G before yesterday.
I haven't tried everything yet, maybe you could try :
If you are in a LTE area, can the Nexus 5 connect itself to this network? Nearest LTE area from where I live is like 40 minutes away, bit too far just for a test.
Try with a sim card from another company like Telus or Bell, is the phone connecting to the 3G network? (I though about this while calling Google..)
Well, hope that the next phone will be ok.
Here are the few pictures just to show you a proof that even when I request a webpage, the phone will stays on 2g only.

Thanks for the update mark1s. Definitely let me know if a new phone fixes anything, although I'm also thinking it's a software problem.
The problem could just be that there happens to be patches of low coverage in the areas we're testing this out, which seems unlikely in big cities. But testing at work seems to have this problem, but testing this at home I pick up 3G and H+ just fine. Odd..
Just recently I've noticed that I drop calls when I'm on a LTE signal. It is very annoying. Is anyone else having this problem. Does anybody have any idea what is going on here. I notice if I have a HSPA/HSPA+ signal I don't drop calls.
Actually I noticed if I turn LTE off I don't drop calls at all. I am on the AT&T network if that matters.

Same network, similar but different issue. Within the last couple of days my phone now hangs up the call after a few seconds. Sitting at my desk, signal strength is in the -70's, a call comes in and the LTE symbol drops to HSPA or HSPA+, (good so far) then no icon shows then the signal indicator goes completely blank, the call hangs up then after a brief pause the phone reconnects to LTE. I'm completely stock, running the latest CM 11S and I've tried everything I can think of to figure out the problem. I've wiped the phone, stopped using Google Voice, I have not added new apps lately, swapped out my SIM card into my OPPO Find 7A and it works flawlessly...I'm at a loss. At this point pre-ordering the N6 can't come soon enough for me.
That is actually what happens to me but I couldn't explain it as well. I'm on a cm11 rom.
I'm wondering if it has something to do with AT&T.

No and at this point I kind of don't care since I'm getting the N6 as soon as it launches. I can make due with my Find 7A for a few more weeks. In some regards it's actually better as a phone than my OPO. Probably going up on Swappa soon!
I was just wondering if yours is acting the same way with the lte deactivated.
Yep had this since i got the phone, sometimes on lte it just wont let me call and say " mobile network unavailable ", been on 3g for a long time and haven't had any problems.
probably because lte coverage where i live is meh.
Yeah but WTF, this is bull**** to have an LTE phone and force it on 3G. I'll put the SIM card back in and try on 3G for a bit but if I get frustrated and throw the thing out the window its on you : -)

So far so good when selecting 3G the phone holds the HSPA or HSPA+ signal.
Looks like on the 1 + forums there's a lot of people having the same problem. Someone said it's going to get fixed in the next ota. Looks like the last update 38r boogered something up.
I just want to say that for those who are not aware if your phone shows low LTE signal, that has absolutely nothing to do with voice services and the quality of voice services you might get. As soon as you type in a number and hit call the phone automatically hands off connection from LTE to HSPA or 3g to make the call. This is 100% normal. VoLTE is not available on our phone nor is it activated on Tmobile yet I dont think but likely soon.
I expect that once we get official Lollipop and tmobile works out their nexus wifi calling dealio they got going on then we will also be getting the same wifi calling and texting magic. No need to get freaked out people.

I was aware that there was no Volte. I know that it is normal to go to 3g but it never dropped a call doing that before. I must disable lte so the call doesn't drop. I know this only because I have an att microcell and it forces my phone to 3g for full 5 bar voice service.
Yea microcells do weird things, the hand offs are messed up in general in android I think with them. Sorry thought you were on tmobile. Still not use to being in a forum with an unlocked phone

Birdsfan or others,
By chance did you have wifi off? I just been doing some testing and noticed this:
wifi on/lte on = no dropped calls
wifi off/lte on = dropped calls
wifi off/lte off(3g only) = no dropped calls
If you want lte activated and make phone calls without it dropping calls then turn on wifi?
Check it out, see if it works.
I found the exact same results as tdamocles
Left the house and learned that there needs to be wifi in connected state for calls not to drop.
I just started having the same issue, exactly as described.
WiFi + LTE, no prob.
H/H+, no prob.
LTE without WiFi, phone switches to H/H+ and connects for about 2 seconds then hangs up while the signal icon goes blank, then back to LTE.
I tried reflashing stock 11S with a clean wipe, 38R.
I tried the latest nightly with a clean wipe.
Really at a loss here.
I really like the phone and CM but I need my phone to work as a phone....I'm done I'm pre-ordering the Nexus 6 Wednesday.
I dunno, I just tried reverting, via clean install, to 33r and the issue persists (did NOT go away).
Makes me worried it's a hardware thing.
Using Ting (MVNO using Sprint network CDMA) ever since I upgraded from CM11 to CM12 I get intermittent loss of cell signal at times. Every couple of minutes, regardless of where I am or how strong my signal is I will lose all cellular signal for about 20 seconds, including voice and data, and then it will pop back up just like it was before.
I've tried downgrading to two different radios and nothing seems to make any difference. Like I said before this problem didn't occur until I did a clean flash of CM12.. everything was fine with CM11.
I've even wiped/reinstalled CM12 with the same issues.
Does anyone have a solution for this yet?
I recommend keeping your radios updated to LRX22C. Where did you get your ROM from?

From what I've gathered, it seems that sprint networks being unreliable on cm12 has been an existing problem that may get fixed in the future.

Well I fixed it.. sort of. I had tried this before but I didn't reboot the phone.
SETTINGS / MOBILE NETWORK SETTINGS/ PREFERRED NETWORK TYPE
I switched it from LTE to 3G. Looks like I might not be getting LTE coverage but it's hard to tell as LTE is sketchy at best at home and at work... and in either case I'm on Wi-fi anyway. Not a huge deal.
I had tried this before but I didn't reboot the phone after making the change. As long as I leave it on 3G my cell signal never drops. If I switch it to LTE or GLOBAL then it will randomly drop as described above.
I'll retest things after each CM12 update I install see if we get one that works!

Were you able to find a solution for this that you could share?
Honestly no..I just keep it on 3G and there are no issues.
I tried about a week ago switching back to LTE but the display never showed LTE and I definitely wasn't getting LTE speeds and the signal drop returned.
TBH LTE coverage is pretty spotty in my area and I don't use a lot of data outside of Wi-Fi anyway so it's pretty much a non issue for me.
When a CM12 snapshot is released I'll probably try again.
I should add that I dirty flash the latest nightly almost every morning. When a snapshot comes out I'll wipe and clean flash things and go from there.
Update... about a month ago I did a full wipe, going back to stock, did the network updates, etc and all was well.
Then I did a fresh install of cm12.1 and every thing worked great.. Lte and all!
A couple days later I dirty flashed a nightly and got an exclamation point and no data (Wi-Fi is fine). I did find the sprint fix flash which allows me to do the network updates again from cm (had to switch to 1X for it to work) but that only yielded a temporary fix.
I did however find a workaround. If I go to my apn settings menu and change a setting on my ting (sprint mvno I use) entry then change it back and save then BINGO! I have Lte again...
That is... Until I get handed off to another tower.. Then I have to do the workaround again.
Weird issue I'm having on a G920i. In Settings -> About Device -> Status, the signal strength is being reported incorrectly. When I first boot the device, it will show accurately and will vary from -90 dBm to -100 dBm when I am at my house, which is consistent with every device I've ever owned. However, after 30-45 seconds, it will start reporting at "-113 dBm 0 asu" and it will simply stay there and will never change, even as I move about. The number of bars in the signal strength icon on the status bar will even change, but in the Status menu, signal strength simply stays at "-113 dBm 0 asu" permanently. Connectivity seems to be fine--I have no problems making calls, browsing the web, etc. The signal strength in the Status menu simply seems to revert to and stick at 113 dBm 0 asu with no explanation or other impact on the phone.
For what it's worth, I've tried both the New Zealand and Singapore AOD1 firmwares from Sammobile.com. Same problem on both. I'm on AT&T in the U.S.
Anybody else seeing anything like this?
Yes it seems both the g920i and g920f all have this problem. Every single device. Please get in contact with Samsung about it, the more people that complain the more likely it will be fixed.
@mupet0000 & @phositadc I've seen you guys in a few forums talking about the Galaxy S6 SM-G920I signal issues... Mine is the same! Swapped 2 phones already and they have awful lte reception... I was hoping a different modem/baseband would help but it looks like it doesn't....plus a few soft reboots as well what's going on? Have you guys experienced any reboots? Can this be fixed with a software update?
OK checked mine and its yes your right. -113 in status however if you type *#0011# in your dialer you'll see the better reception reported. Interestingly this did not happen when I was on the Cricket towers(At&t). I just switched to T-Mobile and I now have the -113 status. My speeds are great but I can't side-by-side compare the radios to anything to know if there is a real problem.

No reboots here. I flashed the aod3 modem last night and things seem a little better on AT&T. On the aod1 modem, I was not getting LTE in a bunch of places that I've always had LTE before. I know the g920i has frequency support for AT&T LTE bands, and I do get LTE, but I must say so far the experience has not been as good as other LTE phones I've had. Not sure if that's the modem firmware to blame or the hardware itself. Probably firmware.

Hey all, I'm in the UK and I have the SGS6 edge on the 3 network here. I use my phone for tethering at all times as I do not have wifi in the house. with my SGS5 before this I could easily run my PC , Tablet my son mobi and his gaming PC all at the same time with no issue. The S5 would run a full signal and load very quickly HD content.
My brand new S6 is disapointing singnal wise from straight out the box. I noticed my signal level fluctuating up and down but very rare dose it show a full signal level. and as for teathering I am finding it very hard to live with.
I will be suprised if Samsung sort this out with firmware. I just had a 150 MB firmware update yesterday and my signal level is the same.
I remember my Nokia N96 having this same fault, and although it was all over the internet back then, Nokia did nothing in all the firmware updates I had. I was going to sell my pristine 7 month old S5..... but I think I will hang on to it for now.
Hey guys, I am on the latest OTA released by Samsung (AOE3 built May 7th) and the problem is still not resolved. LTE signal still awful and LTE signal strength still -113. So far so bad. I have contacted Samsung again, and tomorrow I have a phone call with their support where they will remotely access my phone so I can show them the problem. I will show them and see how it goes, and I'll report back here.
I will make it clear to them that the signal strength is worse than my 2 year old S4, and I will demonstrate the incorrect signal strength value to the support agent. If they tell me it's a non issue or they make some silly excuse instead of investigating, I will simply sell the S6 and get another phone.
This is a huge issue and I'm disappointed that there aren't many people noticing this or reporting it to Samsung. The more popular the S6 gets, the more people will notice that their old phone holds a better signal.

I think it is a widespread issue... I always have 1 bar lte and under my signal status it say - 113dbm which is zero service... It never moves... I'm gonna try custom rom and see if that help but it obviously a antenna/modem baseband issue... Also someone mentioned it could be because the Galaxy S5 uses Cat 4 lte and the S6 uses Cat 6.....its very disappointing! Hopefully it gets fixed or I'll return to the S5...i really want to like this phone..... But Samsung is making it hard to
I don`t think there is anything wrong with the signal. even if I only have 1 bar the phone is perfect during calls and my LTE/4G download speed is even over the provided speed my carrier provides, I think it`s just a bug that it`s showing less signal then what it actualy has.

This is true. It's simply a bug that shows the wrong signal strength - mine shows -113 but I'll have 3 bars so that makes no sense. However, if you ARE getting a bad signal, that is a different issue altogether.
(btw I started a thread about this already several weeks back)
Spoke to Samsung on the phone, they didn't need to remote access my phone to see the issue. They had an S6 in their office and they told me they saw the signal at -113dBm just like mine. They say they have passed this onto the relevant team and hopefully it will be fixed in an OTA and I should stick to the United Kingdom BTU firmware (the correct firmware for my region).
We will see if this gets resolved. They definitely know about the problem now and have seen it with their own eyes, so I'm hopeful.

Ok.. Thanks... I already read through that thread too... Been trying to figure out if it was just me or alot of people..... Seems like the 920f is getting more updates that us.... 920I......The latest is AOD3 right? Today I'm gonna flash a custom rom for 920f and see if there is any change....
*edit* just checked Samsung live update... AOE3 was just released for 920I for TTT I guess is a country called Trinidad and Tobago... But that is the firmware I've been using.... Hopefully this will help... Let Ya guys know
*edit #2*...ok guys just updated to AOE3.... Bars still show low but the signal status is working and it's showing that I have a better signal than with *#0011*... The - dbm and asu is now extremely close to my S5... So in conclusion the signal is strong it just doesn't show it in the bars like previous Galaxy's
I've had the note 5 for a little over a month now, and the only thing I hate about it is the terrible cellular signal. Even if the phone is showing 4 bars of LTE I still have really poor signal. I'm on the Sprint Note 5 obviously, rooted and running Moar Rom Version 1.2. Is anyone else having poor signal? Does anyone know how to change the PRL, or if its even possible?? Is there anyhting I can do? Maybe get a new phone, lol!!
My service has been better actually. Of course I'm coming from an s3 too.
I have horrible signal to especially indoors, it drop to 3g with 1 bar
