Hello,
Google announced Gesture Search for Android 2.1 phones but it will only work for US phones for now.
Someone knows why? I think it shouldn't be too hard to "mod" it to use it with other languages? Letters are letters.. wheres the difference between an english H and an german one?
It works on my french HD2 without pb.

See you

Anyone else having trouble selecting a different keyboard? I installed "Keyboard from Android 2.3+" by Steven Lin (he's done a lot of work on it besides porting the gb keyboard), and while I can toggle it "on" in Settings -> Language & keyboard, I cannot set it as the keyboard to be used. At least on past phones I had to turn it on and then select it as the keyboard to be used. I tried long presses and various swipes, nadda.
Semi-related. I would also like to use a different keyboard, but I would like one that wasn't so cluttered with symbols and worked more like the iPhone keyboard.
Also, it'd be nice if there was one that didn't take up so much of the screen. It's a 720p screen, I don't need the keys to be so tall!
Stock ICS keyboard works really great and doesn't take up a lot of space too.

Once enabled, go to any app that opens the keyboard.
Look at your notification bar. It'll be a mini keyboard icon in the left corner. Open the notification bar and it'll have an option to select input
I used to use FlexT9 but on this phone the keys are a little smaller than I'd like. So for now I'm using the stock one.

Dude, exactly what I needed, thanks!
To the guy wanting a plain-ish keyboard, check this one : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.moo.android.inputmethod.latin.free
This app is a floating translator and dictionary.
It supports Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, German, English, French, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Vietnamese. More languages will be added in next versions.
Link to Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=apps.easylife.translator
Having the interface in a resizable floating window, you can translate without leaving the app you are using, so that you have the text in front of you the whole time.
Furthermore, when you touch out of the window, it becomes a little ball so that it doesn't interfere with the reading/writing, and you can open it again with a tap. In a similar way to facebook messenger.
Features:
Floating window.
Translate without leaving current app.
Dictionary and synonyms.
Bubble mode to take up less screen.
Notification mode.
Bubble size can be changed.
Resizable and movable window.
Posiblity to lock it if you want it always there.
It remembers the position and size, so that you always have the same experience.
We haven't translated the interface of those languages we can't make sure the translation is acceptable (we don't trust google translate for that) so if anyone would like to translate it to his own language, we would really appreciate it.
It is our first app, and we want it to be as good as possible. Therefore we would appreciate your feedback, bug reporting, suggestions, and anything to improve it!
Special thanks to:
@pingpongboss for his awesome StandOut library.
Pere-Lluis for finding several bugs, for his ideas to improve the app and being always there to test alfa versions.
@omarainea for translating the app to arabic, and suggesting ways to improve the app.
Christian Orjeda for improving the german translation of the app.

looks good..
i will check and report back later..
Btw instead of a bubble, if theres a persistent notification in status bar, that will be better ... Like clicking minimize will send it as notification and we can click it to get it back onscreen ..

Could you please attach an apk to the first post? I'm planning to feature your app on the portal and it's our small requirement

We are working on that. We have done that but it doesn't work well enough, yet. When we figure out how to do it properly it will be added. Thanks for your feedback!!

That would be great! apk attached
We are working on a couple extra features that should be added to the app in a couple days, if we work out a couple difficulties.
wow, looks great, and how about Russian?
@lotdrops ,I think adding Arabic language to this app would make it really popular,
I can help you with that if you need any, I'm familiar with translating app, although I think translating this app would be different.
Anyway thank you for the incredible app, and keep up :fingers-crossed:

It's one of the next languages to be added. And it souldn't take a lot of time stay around! it might be added in a week or so, if we don't encounter much trouble with the different characters...

Arabic, with Russian (as I've just said) is planned to be added soon. We have to fix a couple things first and then we'll dig into it.
And if you can help translating, that would be awesome!!
It is definitely a very good app for learning new languages. A tip from me if you could start adding audio for the words too that would be great. I mean by that then we would be able to speak the way words are supposed to be pronounced. I don't know what would be the limitations for doing that, may be a lot of space would be required, but just a thought came to my mind.
Anyhow good work.

Thanks. This is a great app. Can you add Japanese and, perhaps, Mandarin?
Offline dictionary will be a nice feature if you can add it.
Great app! I'm currently always juggling between Google translate and messaging apps.
+1 to extend it to Hungarian in the future (Might not be the most popular but if there are not a lot of requests I may get lucky ).

Hello dear physical keyboard fans!
I just bought my girlfriend the Galaxy S Relay phone and already managed to change the rom to CM11 and added the german keys to the keyboard layout (thanks for the nice thread helping with that!).
Now another question occured: Is it possible to have word suggestions while using the physical keyboard?
For example when she types "Hel" that the phone suggests "Hello" and she can touch the word to autocomplete it? It works with the screen keyboard and vanishes while using the physical one. I tried different combinations of autocorrection and autocomplete options and also marked the option to always show suggestions but it only changes the on-screen keyboard.
I didn't found anything using the forum search and hope someone has an idea or even a solution.
Thanks in advance!
I do not think this exists as far as i know but you could suggest it on the exposed module suggestion forum. But this being the last of the qwerties, this is probably not likely.

Correction this was already answered here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2343297
[Q] Physical Keyboard: can we have auto-correction and predictive text?
Big thanks! I somehow missed that thread. I will try SwiftKey.
