Gesture Search - Android Apps and Games

Hello,
Google announced Gesture Search for Android 2.1 phones but it will only work for US phones for now.
Someone knows why? I think it shouldn't be too hard to "mod" it to use it with other languages? Letters are letters.. wheres the difference between an english H and an german one?

It works on my french HD2 without pb.

See you

AAdditional languages on the HTC HD2 keyboard

By default the HD2 keyboard comes with 5 languages. Does any one know how to incorporate additional languages? I am specifically interested about the greek language.
I also are intrested in alternetive language keyboard settings. I want Swedish, and that im thinking of keyboard support for Bluetooth Keyboards. External BT keyboards works great, but cant se that im using a Swedish Keyboard. We have the darn å,ä,ö thats messing up the usability for me.
Any Ideas?
Thnx in advance

Swedish keyboard
I'm also looking for a swedish keyboard! PLEASE!!
These subjects are addressed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5138044 for HTC LEO.
Use the search tool on the top bar with key words like t9, xt9 or even et9 and your preferred language. You might find a suitable solution on another device's topics.
Also, I asked makeveral to implement a selection tool on his BsB app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5136662. If you think it's a goo idea, add a post to his topic saying so. Good luck!
Use Fingerkeyboard 2.1 for additional languages... its free and has a much better interface than the standard keyboard. You can switch between languages easily...

[Q] French Canadian keyboard on the Nexus S

Hi All
I live in Quebec and I just got myself a shiny NS. However, there is no option for a french canadian keyboard in the settings, only the azerty french keyboard. Is there an easy way to enable this language?
Thanks!!!
I don't live in Quebec but I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to this. I've read somewhere that Slideit keyboard from the market has a French Canadian Keyboard but I really wouldn't count on it til I tried it and last time I checked you had to pay for it. The only one I've tried is from the seeARM swype keyboard from his Galaxy S JL2 Rom but how to get it to work on the Nexus S I'm not sure but it was nice to have on the SGS.
edit: I have swipe beta on the Nexus S so maybe it can be ported over....not sure how but if someone here has any ideas it very well could work. seeARM hasn't been around in quite a while but might be able to run it on the Nexus somehow.

Swype already works fine on the Nexus S. You cannot distribute Swype, it's illegal on XDA.
Check out keyboard alternatives, they most likely have what you're looking for. Alternatives such as Smart Keyboard Pro and Swiftkey.
I wasn't trying to distribute Swype, just trying to mention the only french canadian keyboard I'd seen so far....as being french canadian anyway since they are few and far between.
Thanks. I am aware of the alternative keyboards available but I would have liked to stick with the stock keyboard as I find it pretty nice!
I'll report here if I find a way.
Hi, I'm from Quebec too and I'll share some information that might be useful to other French-canadians Nexus S users.
First, I noticed the Nexus S doesn't have a French (Canada), which can be an issue with the News and Weather widget. I will explain how to take care of that.
Put your system language in French by going in the following menus
Settings > Language & keyboard > Select language > Français
Now you'll notice that the language is set to Français (France)
The problem now is that by having this language set, you automatically get an AZERTY keyboard.
Install the following application (Using the Barcode Scanner application from the Android Market)
Once it's installed, you'll have a new application called Paramètres régionaux. Open it up, press on the context menu button and press on Add Locale.
Put the following informations in the Add Locale popup:
Label: français (Canada)
Language: fr
Country: CA
Variant: <empty>
Now, to have a QWERTY keyboard, go in the following menus
Paramètres > Langue et clavier > Clavier Android > Langues de saisie > English (United States) (only have this keyboard checked)
Now you should have a french operating system, with a QWERTY keyboard and the News and Weather (Actualités et Météo) application that now gets Canadian-related news instead of France news.
Thanks for the great post. However, I wanted an english operating system with a qwerty with french and english dictionnary/autocomplete!
I finally found a way : install CM7. With this ROM you have all the dictionnary/locale you want!

Still nothing ?
Same new nexus S ( add to that a fresh scratch on the flimsiest screen I've ever touched ) but no french canadian keyboard. I'm can't stand the french OS.
But still need to type in french...
Nothing new ?
Thanks !
Before flashing CM7, I briefly used an app named "Gingerbread Keyboard" or something similar, that was free on Android Market and had a number of additional locales like French Canada (so QWERTY), or French QWERTZ which is used in Switzerland.
Another option with the stock rom (with alt. recovery so as to be able to mount /system in read-write mode) is to use adb to remove LatinIME.apk from /system/data and push the one from cm7 into the same location.
To get the apk you'll need to download cm7, unzip it and find the apk there.

My understanding is that you can use the English keyboard (qwerty) with french autocorrect. You can add additional languages in the keyboard settings and then toggle languages by swiping the spacebar. The French Canadian keyboard is just a qwerty with extended character set for accented letters. Your keyboard wont show the extended characters anyway due to the size.

MT4gS in Europe?

Hi,
i am thinking about buying this phone and use it in Germany/Europe.
i have some questions to you.
1) Does someone know, if i will be able to use 3G connection with the European Networks?
2) And which languages are included in the Firmware? only english and spanish or some more?
3) you know we germans have some special letters so what happens if you long press the following letters? do you get an option to write the following?
A-->Ä
O-->Ö
U-->Ü
S-->ß
?
thanks for your help
1) yes if the phone is unlocked
2) english and spanish, but just install morelocale2 and you'll have all of them
3) yea if you long press they appear on screen
You can just change your keymapping. Blue6ix has a thread on this topic.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285244
If you follow the link DistrictDigital provided to the keymapping request thread, you will see that Paitor made Swedish keys available.
Since Paitor went ahead and described his process, the same can be done for German, or any other language.
Germanic languages are already supported by the soft keyboard.

How can i install language keyboard?

Hello to all..
i just bought the new nexus s 9023 . i want to install greek keyboard inside the messages . how can i do that? please help me.
If the phone doesn't support the language natively, you'll have to download an alternative keyboard from the Market. I think SwiftKey has greek language support.
Try Go Keyboard. It supports Greek and its for free.
Nah...
Both , are ... hmmmm how can i say that ?
I don't like them their interface.

Anyway, you get the idea, huh! Just look for a keyboard you like.
I Haven't find anything yet.
Is anyone from Greece , that has a similar keyboard better than the original ?
i use swiftkey x which supports greek with (not always successful) autocorrection. also, it's not free, although i'm not sure if it has a free version
other than that, to get the stock keyboard with greek support you'd need to cook your own stock keyboard apk or find someone who has done this.
I use smart keyboard pro on my i9023 and have done that with every android ive had over the last few years.
good solid keyboard.
