Anyone else having trouble selecting a different keyboard? I installed "Keyboard from Android 2.3+" by Steven Lin (he's done a lot of work on it besides porting the gb keyboard), and while I can toggle it "on" in Settings -> Language & keyboard, I cannot set it as the keyboard to be used. At least on past phones I had to turn it on and then select it as the keyboard to be used. I tried long presses and various swipes, nadda.
Semi-related. I would also like to use a different keyboard, but I would like one that wasn't so cluttered with symbols and worked more like the iPhone keyboard.
Also, it'd be nice if there was one that didn't take up so much of the screen. It's a 720p screen, I don't need the keys to be so tall!
Stock ICS keyboard works really great and doesn't take up a lot of space too.

Once enabled, go to any app that opens the keyboard.
Look at your notification bar. It'll be a mini keyboard icon in the left corner. Open the notification bar and it'll have an option to select input
I used to use FlexT9 but on this phone the keys are a little smaller than I'd like. So for now I'm using the stock one.

Hi all,
when using my TF with dock I bumped into a problem - the keyboard dock does not work well with 3rd party input methods (e.g. Go keyboard thumb layout). I was looking for an app or some other way to auto-switch current input method when docking/undocking.
When searching and googling I found a guide to auto-display input method chooser dialog when docked/undocked (Here).
Another related guide was about re-mapping keys on the dock keyboard (Here)
Well, my aim is to create an overall keyboard utility that would enable easy keyboard auto-switching and possibly re-mapping less useful keys (e.g. brightness) to something more practical.
I've started working on the application (well, spent a few hours over two evenings ), at the moment it is very simplistic. I just replicates the behavior from the Tasker guide, so that it shows the input method chooser dialog after docking and undocking (plus a config to enable/disable this). I did not want to purchase Tasker just for this.
I know that it is an intentional android security measure that apps cannot switch input methods at will, but if someone has an idea how to overcome this (for rooted devices), please, let me know.
Anyway, here is an initial version. Hopefully, someone else besides me will find it useful. Any comments, suggestions highly appreciated!
Thanks for the effort.
I consider this app as very useful. Unfortunately I cannot help you developing because I'm just a user but again the idea is great.

I use tasker and confirm this works the same.
Your app does have 1 big advantage over tasker. With tasker everytime I close the tab&dock into their clamshell shape, when I unfold them and the screen turns on, tasker makes the pop up come on even though I did not undock the tab.
Your app does not do this which is great
good work, much appreciated!
Wow, this is awesome! The only thing that would make it better is the ability to switch input methods automatically without the pop-up. However - it is no problem to use the app as it is now. Great work!
OK, downloaded, installed and tested... awesome ! You just took my TF one step further on the way of perfection !
Very good idea, it's working great. SwiftKey tablet x is even better thanks to your simple app. Thanks!

Awesome - thanks!
what an usefull app!i wonder if exists anything similar before....+1 for this little but awesome work mate!!
Brilliant! Now can you make an option to allow it to auto switch between says Asus keyboard layout when docked and Thumbs keyboard when undocked pretty please?
I've found that the keyboard choice dialog does come up when (un)undocking, but that it's "dead" (it ignores selections - NOTHING happens) - I have to tap outside the dialog to make it disappear, and then bring up the dialog "manually" via the settings menu.
Any solution?

both of you, check out this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118164
using autostarts you can disable that pop up.
using the guide in this thread i remapped my dock keyboard so that i could use whatever soft keyboard i wanted ( i use smart keyboard pro) and the dock keys wouldnt change.
my problem was that the only way i could get the @ key on the dock keyboard to work was with the standard asus keyboard chosen on the tablet, any other soft keyboard and the @ key wouldnt work.
all solved now though!!

solved already!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118164
turn off the pop op using autostarts
remap the keys however you wish.
Ok, help here, please..
I am lost in all these threads and guides and what not..
What I need is: how to make dock type in Cyrillic Serbian, like the on screen keyboard? I do not need the automatic change of KB, I just need the possibility to type in Cyrillic. When I select serbian, dock stays US and onscreen is changed only..
When you do the remapping from the already mentioned thread, is it possible after that to change to US easily?
Thanx
No pop-up?
Any luck updating this app so that there are two more selections in the configuration screen?
Soft Keyboard when undocked
Soft Keyboard when docked
Then when docking / undocking don't present a user prompt but just change to the selected keyboard?
Thanks!
Great idea! If you could add an option To remember the selection it would be perfect! Anyway GREAT WORK!!!

hey guys,
i'm new to the TPT and i do like it a lot so far. root went well and bloatware is down. since there are so many apps that are device specific, i was curious if there are any different soft keyboard apps that you could recommend. on the SGS2 i am using swype, so when i switch devices, i'm somehow missing that a little.
possible to install other keys and if so, anything to recommend? maybe even something for the stylus? (i figure that either my handwriting sucks, or the detection for regular writing just sucks)
sorry for beginners questions, but i couldn't find anything about it yet ..
I tried several and settled on SwiftKey Tablet X. Works best for me.
I use Thumb Keyboard. It has a split design and has numbers and arrows. It works good with this wide fellow.
I use it on my phone, but was disappointed that it didn't translate well to tablet, for me.
I use Swype and like it a lot
I use FlexT9, it does swype as well as dictation and some other nifty stuff.
Swift Key tablet version is my favorite, not to much of a fan of Swype but thats just my personal preference. its either stock android or swift key
If you like the full keyboard like I do, i recommend the Hacker's Keyboard. Not exactly sure why its called that but it uses a full QWERTY keyboard with arrow keys. Another is the Logitech Keyboard (still in beta but I havent had any issues) that has a full QWERTY that also you can swipe across the keyboard to show another keyboard that doubles as a technical keyboard or calculator.
If you like lots of buttons, is more open to customizing (button row/column height/width adjustments), either one would work great.

I prefer Thumb Keyboard too. I like that you can choose different themes for it. And for the most part, the themes they offer match a lot of flashable themes/roms for different devices.

+1 for Hacker's Keyboard. I usually use my tablet in the folio case so I have a nice hardware keyboard. However there have been plenty of times where I have had it out of the folio and been editing a document or posting on a forum and the hackers keyboard has come in extremely handy. It would be something I was willing to spend money on, but since it is free, it's an even better deal.

Hackers Keyboard ist the best, it is for free you can use 5 row style (numbers and letters) and you can download different languages for auto correctur.
In portrait mode I usually use Swype, which is great even at 10inch!
In landscape mode and for things like SSH/Terminal, I use Hacker's Keyboard, which feels almost like the real thing
Dueces beat me to it. HACKERS KEYBOARD for the closest simulation of a desktop keyboard (I've) found so far. Not only are the keys big and bold, perhaps more importantly they are scalable (as is the entire keyboard).
coydroid
SwiftKey Tablet X for me as I use SwiftKey 3 on my SGS3 and I just can't go back to anything else anymore...I might have to give this hacker's keyboard a crack though, thanks for the suggestion.
For those who like Swype, I strongly recommend the TouchPal keyboard. Its implementation of the swype input method is terrific.

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone.
I think most people don't care about tinkering with the stock keyboard. Neither do I, but yesterday, while I was just messing with settings, I found an interesting thing in the stock keyboard preference. There is an option to actually do aggressive prediction on pressing the 'space' or any punctuation marks. This is really good for those who have a really small screen or big fingers. If you want to see the difference follow the steps to enable it:
1. Go to 'System Settings > Language & Input' and select the 'Settings' icon.
2. Tap on 'Auto-correction' and select 'Aggressive'.
Tip: For previous word based prediction tick the 'Next-word suggestions'
Hit the thanks button if I helped you because I'm still stuck in that 10 post limit

Good, interesting thing!
Hello dear physical keyboard fans!
I just bought my girlfriend the Galaxy S Relay phone and already managed to change the rom to CM11 and added the german keys to the keyboard layout (thanks for the nice thread helping with that!).
Now another question occured: Is it possible to have word suggestions while using the physical keyboard?
For example when she types "Hel" that the phone suggests "Hello" and she can touch the word to autocomplete it? It works with the screen keyboard and vanishes while using the physical one. I tried different combinations of autocorrection and autocomplete options and also marked the option to always show suggestions but it only changes the on-screen keyboard.
I didn't found anything using the forum search and hope someone has an idea or even a solution.
Thanks in advance!
I do not think this exists as far as i know but you could suggest it on the exposed module suggestion forum. But this being the last of the qwerties, this is probably not likely.

[Q] Physical Keyboard: can we have auto-correction and predictive text?
Big thanks! I somehow missed that thread. I will try SwiftKey.
just wondering if anybody have tried this mouse. I'm looking for a $20 - 30 mouse that would work good. I've read that some mouse are laggy/slow on pixel c. I have a logitech k480 keyboard and was thinking of pairing a mouse would be nice since I use google sheets and remote to computers (via vmware horizon client) a lot.
I've been using my pretty old Logitech Bluetooth mouse from about 5 years ago without any issue on the pixel c. Can't remember the model number (I think that stuff has all come off it now).
Thanks brown geek!
I was using a Logitech T630 and now use a Logitech MX Anywhere 2 - both work just fine. I notice you mention Horizon Client - one thing to keep in mind with the Pixel is that if you are using the hardware keyboard, hitting the key to bring up the symbols panel does not work. Windows just treats it like an Alt key. If you need to send a special symbol, you need to use the field in the Horizon client that allows you compose a string of text and then send it to the VM - that way, you are allowed to bring up the symbols pane. Not a huge deal if you don't need a lot of symbols, but a mild annoyance.

I'm using a microsoft M3600 mouse. It's a very good mouse.
It was not supported correctly by android 6.0 some weeks ago, so I reported the issue : it's still not working with 6.0 build but this mouse is now working perfectly on android N (google fixed the issue on N recently).
I suppose the fix should be in the next build of 6.0 too .
For more infos : https://productforums.google.com/fo...ce=footer#!msg/nexus/bJh3_vrtnZI/mYCqrw4NBQAJ
This mouse is very light and the autonomy is very good as it's a LE mouse, the tracking is also very precise.
Just tried the Pixel with a Magic mouse 2 from work. Running latest Android N preview.
I have never used a mouse previous to this on android so here's what I found.
Mouse just adds pointer, no gestures, just as if you were using your finger, cant even scroll.
Looking at youtube videos suggests the scroll should work (Magic mouse 1 on older android OS) so I will test this with my aging S4 to see how it responds.
---------- Post added at 08:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 AM ----------
Ok so my S4 behaves the same with the added support for a right click it seems which acts as a back button.
I assume there is not a lot that can be done about and I just need to see what the full Android N release may support.
I'm using the Logitech T630. It has a touch surface with gesture support.
Has anyone used a USB hub and plugged in a wired mouse? Wondering if I could do that with a mouse I already have rather than buy a Bluetooth mouse.

How well does the gesture support work?
Can you swipe to move between home screens and scroll in browsers etc?
Just interested as I ran a input logging app and only the general movement and left and right click seem to suggest they were sending data from the Magic Mouse 2.
Cheers,

I just got this mouse as well. There is no physical scrolling wheel, but you can move your fingers forwards and backwards anywhere on the mouse to scroll vertically and swipe left and right on the mouse to switch pages in your launcher. (It won't take you back from Google Now to your homescreen in the Google Launcher for some reason, but you can accomplish it with a click-and-drag) The scrolling is very responsive and works well, although Nougat does not give you a whole lot of options for adjusting things such as scrolling speed, only tracking speed. There may be third party apps for this, though.
I've seen other mention that right clicking functions as a back button for them, but this has been very app-dependant for me.
