Okay so I have a droid mini XT1030. It used to be on 19.5.3. Bought it off of ebay. Everything works fine. HOWEVER there's no front cam option! and i've tried other apps which make use of the front camera and even on them it doesn't show.
So then I tried flashing 19.5.3 again using sbf+rsdlite. After that did a factory reset. The magically the front camera option was back
however when i tried to use the screen would show a purple distortion, the image would freeze and then you'd have to press back or home to get it back out.
I figured it's a hardware issue, so i got a camera replacement from ebay. After I had professionals install that, it reverted back to the state when the front camera option just isn't there anymore
I've retried flashing the firmware, flashed 19.6.3, flashed 19.5.3 and then took ota to 19.6.3...but nothing works. Please help me out someone!

Hardware is really hard to troubleshoot online like this. It sounds like a hardwear issue to me like maybe a loose connection or something.

ill put it as simple as possible. i flashed to NATF 4.1 and my camera has died. camera app in programs > imaging > camera does not work. opening it does nothing and opening it multiple times does nothing. there is no camera icon in the photos and videos tab on touchflo3d. creating a new MMS and trying to take a pic from there results in a dead end as well. my fuze is CID/Security/SIM unlocked so i thought might as well see if a radio is my problem. flashed many different radios (blackstone's, diamond's, official roms..etc). no changes. ive flashed and hard reset many different roms (romeos, proven, da_g, natf). camera is still unavailable. what can i try? really dont want to warranty the phone as it is security unlocked and has a nice invisible shield on it.
bumpity bump. flashed back to the original at&t super rom (includes splashscreen, radio, os...everything basically) and it fixed it temporarily. flashed to natf 4.1 afterwards and camera seems to still work. but i noticed the error "Voice command has quit due to low memory blah blah" then camera is gone again.
ok i fixed it. just chronicling this in case someone else has the issue. i remember back in the day for screwy electronics a simple fix was to throw it in the freezer. i threw the phone in a ziplock bag, sucked out as much air as i could, turned it off and threw it in the freezer for an hour. took it out and while it was basically frozen turned it back on and camera works, flashlight works. woot

Talk about a hood fix lol glad it worked out for you
When i try to take a picture with the back camera, the screen turns green and no picture is taken. Used to work fine a couple of days ago
Video works, front camera too.
I have rebooted and resetted my phone, went back to an old nandroid backup and even used odin to reset everything.
Please advise
nobody?
it's so weird that front camera pictures work fine, but only back camera pictures don't.
Looking through it before a picture works fine, it focusses and then the screen turns green.
I've tried erasing all data, stock rom, had the battery out for a while..

Sorry, I had that problem when I put a clear TPU case on my Nexus One. I have a TPU on my Nexus S, but there is enough area between the flash and the case for that not to happen.
Does this happen with/without flash? Any lighting situation? Possibly something on the lense? Hopefully not a hardware failure...
no, i tried a bunch of stuff, lens is clean too.
I'm gonna take it to samsung repair tomorrow, hopefully they will repair it under warranty
i have the same problem. did you ever figure it out?
Nope, just had the camera module repaired / replaced
Hi all,
Got my new nexus s yesterday haven't used a lot yet but I already have 2 problems.
Yesterday I used the camera with flash light and everything worked fine.
Today I installed the nexus torch app, used it and the led light worked as intended so I switched it off.
After a while I went to use the app again but the led didn't light up so I thought it's an app problem, but when I used the camera app the led doesn't work either in photo or video mode (of course I have the option for the flash to be activated not automatic).
I tried to clear the camera app data, did a factory reset through the settings menu and another from the recovery menu but the results are the same.
Also whenever I try to change the camera to the front face one the camera app freezes and the phone pops up the message to terminate the application.
Is there any solution?
Depending on when you bought it, and if you're rooted/unlocked, I would take it back to SPrint, as it sounds like you've hosed your LED.

Got it back to the local shop that I bought it, it was accepted as DOA and I was given a brand new nexus s.
Ty all
I'm having a problem where the camera works for a couple of hours then just turns completely black and doesn't start working again until i reboot the phone.
When i say works for a couple of hours i don't mean a couple of hours of continuous use but a couple of hours general use of the phone.
I first notice it when I'm unlocking my phone as i have Face Unlock enabled,
The front camera won't start so i have to unlock using the backup unlock method (pattern in my case).
As soon as that happens the camera stops working all together, even in the camera app, like i said, until i restart the phone.
Any ideas ?
I had the same issue last night, I went to take a picture but the camera was just a black screen until I reboot.
I can confirm this as well. Only fix i can tell is a reboot.
Exactly the same problem here... Android 4.4 Bug I guess
Same issue for me, and i also have face unlock enabled. Very annoying.

I didn't wanna say anything as to not jinx it but i tried something that seems to have helped my situation.
I Force Stopped the Camera app in Settings --- Apps and then cleared the app data.
That didn't magically fix it but after doing that AND rebooting my phone i haven't had a problem with the camera.
It hasn't even been a full day yet but it's been working for about 18 hours which is great compared to yesterday's having to reboot every couple of hours.
Same Problem here. Also have face unlock active...
Thanks guys for reporting it here!!! I was really close on exchanging my otherwise perfect phone! Now I really think it's software and not hardware related.
Greetings,
Sarusani
Does anyone here get the bottom of their picture blurred out when they use flash? It always looks like if my finger is covering the lens which is not.

I get my Nexus today/tomorrow. I'll do some diagnostics and see if I can find out what's causing the black screen.
Happened once, black screen, reboot. I wasn't able to reproduce it yet.
So much for my "solution"
Just happened again.
I'm tempted to try a factory reset or flashing a factory image.
If anyone's actually tried this I'd appreciate a heads up.
Same for me

I've had this problem on the Slim rom and flashed the factory image yesterday.
Last night, the camera was working well until I switched to a panorama, then it was black.
After a reboot I wasn't able to reproduce it.

There goes my plan to flash the factory image
I hope that it stays fixed for you but unless someone who has had this problem is able to confirm that they haven't had this happen to them for at least a couple of days I'm gonna stick with "This is a serious problem" (for me at least)
This is very unfortunate! Luckily I haven't come across this issue yet but I haven't used the camera much. BTW does anyone know how to change the focus to continuous? Can't find the option.
Apparently this is related to Face Unlock.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=61873
If anyone can confirm this ?
Who has had this problem and not used Face Unlock ?
No idea why this got posted twice.
The only way to "fix" it at the moment, is to turn off face unlock.
My back camera started crashing when i tried to take a picture in complete darkness and ever since i only get a black screen. I have tried to run the phone on safe mode and rebooted many times and it still gives me a black screen. Today i flashed my phone with the factory image and it still broken. I am suspecting this is more than just a software bug. Can anyone confirm this?
Adding myself to the problem with Camera randomly not working, and fix with rebooting.

My phone camera is only showing the front camera there is no options of switching to d rear camera. Sometimes the camera app wouldnt open until i restart the phone. Am using h959 taiwan version i upgraded my phone bout 2 weeks ago to MM v20a-global-esa i dont use my camera dat much so i didnt realise the problem until now. Pls is this a software or hardware problem and is it possible to downgrade the OS back to lollipop or the phones original firmware. Tnks
I too have lost my rear camera After mm update. I changed the camera module but every once in a while the rear camera becomes available so it must be a software issue. Maybe a bad kernel? H955 europe
Camera module?

Ok thanks
Im going to downgrade back to the rooted lollipop system to see if that fixes the camera issue. At least with root i can try other ways to fix it. Have you tried safe mode on your phone? Push the power button as if you were going to restart your phone but instead hold your finger down on the power off option this should reboot back into safe mode. If the camera works there then there maybe an app that stops your camera working. Just reboot again to get back to normal.

Right i have downgraded back to 5.1.1 and camera has not come back. I have now rooted it to see if there is another way to get it to work. Failing that i may disassemble my phone and check the connections for the camera. Its a shame that phone has a locked boot loader otherwise i could blame a bad kernel

Maybe it has something to do with d change in camera module and how did u downgrade back to lollipop
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/update-to-marshmallow-t3399953
The software required is in the instructions and a link to the downgrade kdz is at the bottom of the opening message
I dont think it's a MM issue as I am facing the exact same problems on my H950(flashed with H950PR) on Lollipop. As mentioned by someone above, the camera does work sometimes but fails to load in safe mode. I opened up the phone and cleaned the connector ribbon as well but still no change in the scenario.

In my own case there is no option to switch to back camera. It only shows the front camera, also the front camera takes pictures upside down it started with MM update and i cant even revert back to LP to be sure wether it was an update problem
Hi there. Any updates from yourself? Ive just googled around and found something that actually worked for me!
Go into settings>apps>
Clear the data for the camera app
Clear the data for the gallery app (you wont lose your photos)
Restart phone and wait a moment for it to boot fully.
Open camera app!

same problem I have, I bought even a new back camera on Ebay, changed it, cleared all cash and data and camera worked about 5 min. and then again same problem. When I try to use flash I get the message "Flashlight unavailable while in Camera or apps using flash". I have 6.0.1. version of android, Lg-H955. When I dissemble a phone and slightly push on flash on motherboard, camera works again until I exit it and when I try to power it on again, it is not working. Seems to be a motherboard issue.
