I searched and could not see a straight answer. I am current on version 1.73 and I have not rooted my phone. I would like to root it but scared about voiding my warranty. I have no desire to unlock the bootloader as I dont want to change roms. All I want is to have root access so I can backup my phone in case something goes wrong.
So can the phone be unrooted? Would AT&T/HTC know that I have rooted my phone and unrooted it?
If you unroot by running the ruu nobody will know you rooted.

If you failed to unlock (probably error related to network problem), the only way right now is keep trying for one or two weeks, if stills not working you need to contact Asus to get a RMA to send it in to get it fixed.

Nope, unlocked and root have nothing to do with each other. I was rooted then unlocked my device. Others unlocked then root and unlock tool should works with either JB or ICS.

You contact them and they will provide a RMA so you can send in your device for repair. A few people are doing it as we speak.

Hey guys, I need to bring my phone in to AT&T for warranty on a defective screen but my phone is currently rooted with CM 10.1. The online AT&T representative said that since this is a hardware defect, the software won't make a difference but I don't want to take any chances.
Is there a guide on how to unroot and go back to stock software so I can still use my warranty?
Thanks!
All help is greatly appreciated!

Attain S-OFF if you haven't already. There's a sticky in the original android development section.
Then run the RUU with your phone plugged in. If you want to keep root/unlocked, I don't suggest relocking the bootloader because if you do and they happen to update you to 3.18, you'll be SOL.
Good luck.

Well they are just replacing my phone so I just want to do as little as possible so they honor my warranty.
Then just run the RUU, I'm sure that'll be enough. If you're extra paranoid, after running the RUU you can fatsboot oem writecid CWS__001
And then you can spoof your bootloader to say S-ON and LOCKED instead of S-OFF and unlocked or relocked. If you click the resource compilation link in my signature, I believe there's a link in the MODs portion of the OP.
Chances are they will replace it with a phone with 3.18. No root for that yet. You may get lucky though.
Good luck.
Hi
I just got my phone, but missing the benefits of rooting.
Can anyone tell me how to unlock the bootloader and then root my phone?
Found a lot of links, but not sure which are secure and not to use.
Here's where you go to unlock your bootloader - http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
Once unlocked, you can flash root or do whatever at that point.
Warning though, you will lose your DRM keys in this process, if you don't know what that means, do some research

Is their any way to back them up? So if I ever regret, I can get them back?
Also, is it possible or will it ever be possible to root with an locked bootloader?

You need root to backup DRM keys.
You cant get root without unlocking the bootloader yet.
Youll lose DRM keys when you unlock the bootloader.
If you cant take losing your DRM keys do not unlock and root.

Last question. I got Samsung before and I was able to update my phone with Kies after rooting. Is their any way to update Sony devices when rooted?
Thanks
Flashtool or PC Companion. I prefer the latter.

You sure? As the DRM keys doesn't matter for me, as I don't really use the camera a lot.
But when I unlock bootloader on Sonys website, it tells me I would not be able to get updates from that. But i'm still able to get them with the PC companion?
Just to make sure, as I really want android 5.0 when it comes out.

You can't update with PC companion if you have unlocked your booloader. Your phone will be bricked!

No way to know for sure until someone tries. But with the Z2, you just have to relock your bootloader (might need to revert to a stock kernel first) and then software updates work fine.

There will always be FTF files shared on XDA and you can use flashtool with an unlocked bootloader.

You do it the only way it is possible
Unlock the bootloader via the official way, flash a custom kernel
My bootloader is already unlocked, where can I get a custom kernel? My z3 was root with ftf.... 98 after upgrade to.... 77 I lost my root! Thank you for helping!!

There is no need to spam multiple topics.
YES, it can be done. NO, we can't tell you how because you didn't post your phone model or Android version.

Hej robogo1982, jesi dobio moju poruku u privat?
Hi all
I unlocked my bootloader the other day and proceeded to root my device and have a play around. But since then I ve wanted to return to stock firmware and perhaps relock my bootloader.
Could someone kindly list the steps need to revert back to how the phone arrived in the box?
Many thanks in advance
Someone may need to confirm but the easiest way to do that would be download the latest stock firm ware and use the flash-all script. Then re lock the bootloader.
Yah those are the steps. Google "pixel factory images" and follow all directions.
Sent from my sailfish using XDA Labs
Flash all script never seems to work, I always have to do it manually
