[Q] I want to root my HOX. How, though? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Please don't get mad at me for making this thread.
I just haven't seen any recent, non-shady looking places with a guide to root an HTC One X.
I'd like to root my HTC One X to:
1) Improve battery life by:
i) Safely undervolting/underclocking it
ii) Turning off 2 of the 4 cores
iii) Installing the BEST rom for battery
(I'm not sure of their respective advantages/risks/disadvantages.. could you please let me know?)
iv) Any other way, really
2) Get rid of the "3" Network branding
3) Maybe get a nice ROM
4) Perhaps I'll get Titanium Backup Pro,
I recently had my phone serviced under warranty at HTC service, and the 3-month-warranty-of-repairs thing will end in a month, and the normal 2 year warranty expired in April.
Should I root my HOX now?
How should I root my HOX? Could you please direct me to a still-valid rooting guide for my HOX?
Also, could you please recommend what I should do once I root my phone?
EDIT: Also, I'm a bit confused about custom ROMs. Does having one installed mean the default HTC Sense is removed? Like, the weather widgets and such will be gone? The 'settings' menus will look different, etc?
Thanks

The first thing you should do is probably be in the correct forum [emoji12]
You're in the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita) forum, and you actually have the HTC One X (Endeavoru). Plus, you've posted in the General Section, when you should have posted in the Q&A Section.
What you should do is head over to the HTC One X forum, but before you post another thread there you should do some research first. XDA rules state that a user must search thoroughly before posting. All you should really need to do is check out the sticky threads (the ones at the very top) in each of the sections there, your question has been asked a million times before, and therefore has been answered a million times before. Time to do some reading.
PS. Asking which ROM is best/most stable/fastest/prettiest, or asking for a suggestion isn't allowed, here's why. To say one ROM is better is to infer that the others are inferior in some way. This is disrespectful to the devs who spend their spare time bringing us these awesome ROMs free of charge. Each user has different tastes anyway, the best way to see which ROM suits you is to flash a few and find out for yourself. Battery life differs greatly from user to user anyway, it depends a lot on how you use your device.

[Q] Which Android phone for largest XDA dev commmunity

This is not a question about "what is the best rom?" or "which is the best phone?" b/c those questions, as we know, are mostly personal to the user. My question: Which Android phone has the biggest/best XDA development community? I have owned about everything HTC and recently bought a Samsung Fascinate. The Fascinate community appears poised to develop when the smart guys figure out the kernel or froyo is released. But, compared to my Droid Incredible, I don't see the same level of interest from developers. Any thoughts? (Oh yeah, I am limited now to anything working on Verizon).
Probably the Nexus One since it is the official dev phone, however, most HTC phones have huge dev communities (especially the EVO). The Droid line of phones also has a large following, since they're the best you can get on Verizon.
Yes, Nexus One is probably correct and I think they used to make them for Verizon. I am surprised there is not somewhere on the XDA site to go to check number of posts, number of active posters, etc. in each dev site by device. Or, maybe, not many people have this curiosity?

The N1 was originally planned for Sprint and Verizon, but it was never made due to the launch of the Incredible and EVO. You CAN check the number of posts in each forum just by looking at the "stats" column.
The desire forum is also very active. The oldest thread on the first page tends to be about 1hr since last post (at the most).
Revisiting after 7 yrs from the day of post creation.. Let me re ask the question.. Which of the top 5 smartphones today have the largest development community at xda?

Same question I have a Note 5 and it sucks, I'm about to upgrade and want to know what's the easiest to root, right now if I want to get free stuff in apps I have to get on bluestacks then back to my phone.
For reducing the amount of unnecessary duplicate threads this thread needed to get closed. Please post any "what phone should I buy" questions in the dedicated thread.

Does V9 Kernel Increase Battery Life?

hey.. i got virtuous unity 2.39 on my htc inspire 4g. will the v9 kernel increase battery life if i install it?
Please don't take this as a flame as it is not intended that way.
You have not been here but barely three months and have started more threads that start out with a question about something that can be asked without even starting a new thread. I believe you will find more success here if you take the time to look around and make posts in existing threads than just slinging out new threads with every question you have.
Given the fact that this is a developers forum you should look for the relevant place to post. In this case you could look in m-deejay's thread that's over in the Desire HD forum. You could also post the question in the various Unity threads.
You will find that there are people here that are more than willing to help you and answer your questions if you go about it in a better way. i.e. ease off creating new threads, unless you put them in one of the Q & A sub forums. But asking this question in a new thread on a D & H forum... well I'd be surprised if it got answered at all.
Agreed please search and use the already open threads instead of opening a new one in the wrong spot. On a side not. When it comes to battery only you will be able to tell if the new kernel will increase your battery with the way you use your phone. I could tell you that it helped my battery but I use my phone different then you do and you might not see the same results. There is no one fix for all on these devices. It comes all down to you trying different things and then using what works best for you.

The Phone For You

First of all, there's been a hell of a lot of threads being made for a while now asking 'What phone to get' or 'S3 vs One X' for example and now there's more and more being made daily and there's just too many now.
That's where the idea for this threads comes into place. Any questions you wanna ask about comparing phones before you buy them, ask them in here.
There's 2 main good points about this -
1. Someone else in here could've already asked about phones that you wanted to compare. If so, you can read the answer and that way you've found out exactly what you wanted without typing a single thing or having to wait for a reply. And...
2. It will stop what will inevitably be more posts all regarding the same thing, from littering the forum. And any that are posted outside of this thread can be directed straight to here where their answer could already be awaiting them.
Simple as that!

Agreed, But really, Popular and repetitive comparisons like the S3 vs ONE X is easily googleable now, If not websites, Other android forums might have discussed that before.
But yeah, Both the popular and unpopular phone comparisons need only one thread, Even the tablet ones, They are multiplying now.
Also, In that way, Someone with a similar phone comparison (popular or not) as yours will be easier to find and you will be able to choose carefully without turning the general forums into a "What phone to buy" forums.
Oh and BTW, Can you make one for the "My phone is bricked/laggy/(insert problem here)" threads?
I just used the S3 vs One X as an example really, but yeah I totally agree that google has it covered and youtube is full of videos for the high end phones against each other.
The aim is to make this easier for people anyway so hopefully it works. I PMd orb3000 just after I made this to see if he'd consider making it a sticky. Not sure if he will or not, but that'll then make it even easier to be honest.
And I already think there's a thread for that. I could be wrong but I think I saw one a while back. I'll have a look around and then if not, I'll make one either later today or tomorrow. It all depends on how busy I am

Warning! Watch what you flash!!

This community is the One XL Community, no matter what AT&T calls this phone, its really a One XL, One X LTE. There are some videos on youtube for One X roms but what they fail to mention is what One X they are really for. If you want to keep your phone from becoming bricked, please Only Flash roms from this forum to avoid confusion. I would hate to see more people get stuck on a 2.20 phone or no phone at all. Remember, Always ASK! no matter how dumb the question is, just ask because no one is going to pay for your phone if you brick it. When on youtube or any other site, always check to make sure its for the One XL aka Qualcomm phone or LTE, not the One X Quad core aka Tegra, Nvidia.
Thanks for reading.
I will never understand whats is with the trolls in this community. Last time i tried to warn people not to take the 2.20 OTA i got trolled as well. It seems like people tend to get upset when someone tries to warn others or help. And since you have so much info, Please provide me with the 15+ links to theses threads. Thank you
IMO, we need to have half the first page filled with various warning threads. Nobody reads anything before they flash, then they come crying to us when they f*ck up their phones. I honestly have no sympathy for these clowns. You wouldn't jump in the ocean if you don't know how to swim would ya?

Thread cleaned.
Make sure to only post if you have something relevant to the thread and useful to the community.
Consider this a warning...
Cheers
I agree that if you are unsure you should ask. The only rom ive ever flashed on an adroid phone was from XDA except the old CM roms for my Evo OG. Its MUCH MUCH better to ask and have 3 people tell you to "use the search" and get an answer than brick your phone.
Bump.

Looks like another victim of flashing a One X rom hit the forums. Sadly people just don't read and research before...
Thanks for the warning.. I keep looking for a way to flash this 2.20.. :crying:

OMG!!! One S will get Sense 5!!

Sorry had to title it the way I did. Was just too funny to pass up...
Am I the only one who thinks we should have a moderator merge all of these sense 5 threads and make it a rule that all new threads will be closed? Just like the main JB thread we had?
Or, "JellyBean 4.1.2/4.2.x Update and Sense 5.0 Speculation/News/Discussion Here - All Others Will Be Locked -"

Another good idea but the thread title is too long to fit.
I don't mind seeing 1 thread for Sense 5. It's the 10+ threads that are driving me crazy.
And maybe it should be a sticky.. but then again, it's for the forum moderators to decide.

Or we could delete all the existing threads... Nothing too important has been said, if anything important at all!

Just for those who jump into this thread thinking that we are getting Sense 5 via OTA....only the global versions of the One X, One X+, One S and One V will be getting it.
that's what they're saying anyways.

If global versions get it, like HTC__001, then I assume it would be fairly easy flashing a Sense 5 onto a rooted device.

Think the xda people kind of like clutter and duplicate threads. Just look how they created an application forum for every phone. Just look at how much duplication there is going on there, it's crazy, but i guess someone thinks that makes sense.
Tbh if there is one thing that vexes me more than redundant threads, it's the endless replies "can't you read there is already a thread for this"
It's the same as feeding trolls - completely self-defeating. It validates the thread because it pushes it up to the top of the list and renders the poster no better than the OP.
If the thread is redundant leave it alone, alert the moderators and let them do their thing, then we can all move on.

Rather than opening more threads and adding to the clutter, reporting may of been a good idea.
Speculation sticky thread created, relevant posts to be moved there
