i'm back :} - HTC One S

had MotoQ, BlackBerry Storm, iPhones starting from the 3G... 2 years or so ago i ventured and used a HTC One X for about 3 months.. mainly due to battery life (and the Apple eco system in my house) i went back to iOS and got rid of the HTC. currently have the iPhone 5s.. purchased a HTC One S (this time i am keeping iPhone.. might be switching from time to time), should receive HTC One S on this wednesday, kinda anxious.

Make sure you get the S4 CPU ver of One S. I can't believe people still buying One S, it is a two years old phone though the phone is still good. One X is very bad battery life because of Nvidia T3 CPU.

[Q] One S.. and One S C2 ..

Hey guys .. how you doin?
a Couple of days ago i was going to buy The HTC one S..
Well.. i know it's specs.. that it's an S4 krait 1.5 GHz.....etc
until the guy told me -bragging- this is the 1.7GHz version of the phone..
so i paused a bit.. and changed my mind ..
from now and on.. i'm not going to believe those sellers ..
I wish you guys can tell me how am i supposed 2 realize the difference between the two phones..
Any model number written on the box??
Anything??
..
Cause i don't want the dumb scorpion .. i want the snapdragon s4..
Sira,
Look at wikipedia there is a piece about model numbers for this phone: The two versions have slightly different packaging, the S4 is model z520e and states "Processor: Dual Core, 1.5GHz", whereas the S3 is model z560e and states "Processor: Dual Core".
yw, Koen
I read that in the HTC one S C2 section in GSMarena... and i had 2 make sure..
Thanks A lot
I think i can find that on the box?? right?

I've got the gray one since two weeks, coming from a GS2,before the gs I had a desire hd. I think is probably the best 4.3" phone (my personal size limit for display) very good battery life (about 1d15 in normal conditions and 3g always on). nice display and camera but I prefer shoot with my reflex!
I don't feel the needing of extra battery or memory for the moment. neither a powerful processor!
here the pic of the box, the processor is indicated under the box, first line.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Ok,
I've the S4 processor but it didn't say on the package, they left the 1.5Ghz part out. Only Z520e is printed there. It says:
Model and platform: Z520e, Android with HTC Sense
CPU: Dual Core
etc. etc.
I verified by running AnTuTu benchmark in which it said: CPU frequency 384.0 ~ 1512.0MHz.

[Q] How to recognize z520 and z560

Hello,
A friend of mine liked my phone and wants the exact same one. I have the S4 (z520) and in my country all the operators sell the S3 version - z560. The dealer that sold me mine is out of stock now...
We found a re-seller that sells the S4 version, a 100 euro cheaper in stock package with all the stuff, but it seems a bit shady to me.
So the question is how can I check if it really is the S4 or S3 version if it has the stock android? I can compare with mine,still no JB.
Will System->hardware tell any different then mine's Dual core?
The box will tell you. The S3 got 1.7Ghz CPU, while the S4 has 1.5Ghz.
Also, the box also shows the model, z520 in the S4's case.
To check within the phone you need an app that shows the system info (mainly cpu clock). If its 1.5Ghz = S4 and if its 1.7Ghz = S3.
I dont think theres any way to check the cpu clock on the phone without an app for it.

I suggest you go to ROM threads on both S3 and S4 One S. I bet the Devs wld put in the Build of your phone for the ROMS.
Like the guy above me said, you can check ur CPU clock speed by installing a CPU app or just by settings etc

Quick questions about One S

Need some quick help to decide between One S and 8X for someone on a Vodafone contract.
- does the OneS record 1080p video at 24fps like the OneX, or is there true 30fps?
- what are the differences between the standard and the "C2" model of the OneS?
- how is the 4.1.1 update for the device? visible improvements in battery/performance?
thanks!

The C2 model has an S3 CPU. The 'standard' has the S4 CPU. The S4 is much more desirable as it is faster, runs cooler, uses less power, and (if you care abou such things) has way more community support.

Em how? fps is crap on mine.
thx @ all, how can i recognize a C2 device from the original package?
from specs i see C2 (with S3 cpu) has 1.7Ghz while standard S4 (krait) has 1.5GHz
so if i see 1.5ghz on the box, it's the standard (better) one?
i had the OneX myself and loved it, swapped it with an iphone 4S out of pure economic reasons, but i remember it recorded 1080p at 24fps/~10mbps which was a bit crappy for bigscreen
on the device itself it was fine bitrate wise, but the FPS drove me nuts.
The 8X has 30fps, tested it in store today, it's very smooth.
I'm torn between those 2 devices now
btw i read the C2 didn't get the 4.1 JB update, is it true? will it ever get it?
Yes, look at the box. The model number for the S4 is Z520. S3 is Z560 i think.
And CPU Speed is as you said. You want the one with 1.5Ghz

Nothing wrong with the S3 model, if there was an S5 model the same people ^ would be saying the S4 was crap. My S3 was an import and considerably cheaper than the price charged locally. I'm very happy with it, good battery life, responsive, bright screen with great colours and it makes phone calls too!
Of course there are differences if you stack the phones side by side and run benchmarks but in day to day use you would never notice them. To find out which you have go to About Phone and look at Hardware information, If your processor says 1.5GHz you have an S4, if 1.7GHz you have an S3.

Obviously, since the S4 would be crap compared to the S5. Just as the S3 is crap compared to the S4.
But the biggest issue with the S3 isnt its hardware - its the custom rom/kernel scene thats the biggest issue.
At the moment the S3 is more like "what you see is what you get", while the S4 is "what you see is just a fraction of what you can get".
Also, ICS doesnt list the CPU Speed in the hardware info field. Maybe JB does, I dont know, but ICS does NOT.
Just thought Id point that out

A matter of perspective, when I buy a phone I look at the specs for what it has, not what I can turn it into. I've never flashed a rom yet that made spectacular differences to a device and to my mind flashing is only of use to upgrade a device that's older and not getting official updates.

Performance is better, as in it scores better in benchmark tests, not something I really notice in every day usage though.
Battery life is better for me, if I don't use the powersave option. Also having setcpu (or something similar) installed helps.

[Q] Buying a used One S - admin mode check?

I will be buying a used One S this week, and would to to check if the hardware and software are ok while handling the phone in person.
I had a Samsung Wave and it was possible to go in admin menu with a special code and test the hardware + firmware.
Is it possible to do this with the one s / android?
I have heard of 1 bug with the one s, where the capacitive keys go a little crazy because of some GSM radios, is it possible to verify this?
Thanks!

I was thinking about a check of the sensors (acceleration, light, touch) and some firmwares (camera, radio).
For example here is the "service menu" for my samsung wave where i can run test on audio, video, etc.

The menu varies largely - some say dual core, some say 1.5GHz Dual Core, some say 1.7GHz Dual core. No good way to tell. Easiest way open antutu benchmark and check the info tab at the bottom of the screen. Adreno 225 means S4, Adreno 220 means S3.

HTC One ME (Dual Sim)(M9EW)

Hello,
HTC introduced the One ME dual-SIM with Helio X10 chipset and support for Indian 4G LTE networks. This handset was unveiled in China earlier this month and will be sold in Classic Rose Gold and Meteor Grey color options in India.
The One ME is HTC’s second WQHD smartphone with fingerprint sensor after the One M9+ to enter the Indian market. Styled like the rest of the One product family, the device has a polycarbonate body.
Specs-wise, the device packs the latest 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795T mobile chipset with 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. A 5.2” QHD display, 32GB of expandable memory, and 20MP main camera are also on board. HTC One ME boots Sense-d Android Lollipop.
The dual-SIM handset supports Indian 4G LTE network bands - 1800Mhz (Band 3) and 2600 MHz (Band 40) to deliver fast mobile web speeds, but only in select regions. Other connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Bluetooth 4.1 with apt-X, and GPS with A-GPS/GLONASS/Beidou support.
HTC One ME dual-SIM is priced for India at INR 40,500 ( about $640). The device will be available from this weekend onwards.

Most of the people say that it heats up and drains battery faster. It also lags sometimes with multitasking and heavy gaming. Other than that it's working fine. I really like the specs and the design but disappointed that it lacks wireless charging and also doesn't give the chance to add a wireless charging receiver as it has a fixed back battery cover.
Anyone owning the device could give us a real feedback about it!
First of all thanks OP for this thread for Htc One Me ... i am tired searching thread and forum for this devive in XDA :thumbup:
ITS REALLY VALUE FOR MONEY FULLY FEATURE PACKED FLAGSHIP DEVICE (but somehow its being ignored)
Just check it, You will love it
My thought about this device is:
This is currently best value for mony flagship device. It has everything (and more) that current flagship device should have....and price is comparabily very low price. Last day I went to magnet mall in vileparle west mumbai and checked this device... around 20 min from design to sound to FP sensor to dual sim...its awesome device. The couler i used was gold...and device look awedome golden. Here are some major features packed in this phone, these are checked by me and confirmed specs.
* Nice back camera with 4k recording and front 4up
* Latest 64 bit MTK helio 10 processor
* Dual sim dual stanndby
* Touch fingerprint * homekey
* Fm radio
* IR blaster
* 32 gb memory plus 3 gb ram
* Sense 7 and Android 5.0.2
* Dolby dual BoomSound speaker
* 5.2 inch 2k Res screen.
* Price Only: 37000 INR (at Alfa Mumbai)
* Other features are same as other Htc flagship devices.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, even after so good device and already availability there is NO FORUM FOR THIS DEVICE IN XDA. I already requested forum for this device via 'New Device Forum request' (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62090540 ) thread. And hope soon it will get its own forum.
Please request/ suggest forum if you like this device.

My brother owns it. I have used it quite often. It's a damn good device. Totally value for money. If you want to know any particular details, feel free to ask.

I also got 2 hands on with this device....as i mentioned in prev post....best value for money device till date with all features.
But there are some things which could not be performed at hand on.
So please provide some details about below points.
1. How is Battery Life (Its 2840 mah and is it enough for 5.2 + 2k screen)
2. Performance (MTK helio10 is really capable handling graphic loaded games and apps)
3. Is there Heating Issue? (I heard somewhere about this.....???!!!)

1. Battery life gets him through a day. It really depends on your usage.
2. Processor is damn good, no performance issues. Gaming isn't that great though due to a sucky GPU, highly extensive games will see frame drops.
3. Every smartphone heats when used for long hours without resting. Nothing uncommon. No "heating issue" or "overheating".

Yes, it's a great value for money device. Since it's not mine, I won't have new findings, but if you ask anything in particular, I'll be able to find out and inform.
Any update about this phone getting 5.1.1 ?

Just received the device yesterday, I bought it from eBay. I'm really impressed with the design. The grey one gives you a metal build feel. Sense 7 is great. There is FM and USB host option if there is anyone wondering. I didn't assess battery life yet, not before one week. I noticed that the boom sound is less in intensity compared to m8. There is some heating up but not exaggerated as people complain about, maybe coz I didn't overload it seriously but with normal use it's OK. I still didn't check the mhl adaptor. Overall it should be considered as a flagship phone but with a very reasonable price.

Hello guys. I would like to buy this fantastic phone , but I live in Rome . I use a SIM Card with Operator 3. Do You believe this phone is compatible with the LTE bands in Italy ? Thank you soo much...

Anyone know of a root method that works for this phone?
And would the htc one m9+ root work as both devices are basically the same?
