I will be buying a used One S this week, and would to to check if the hardware and software are ok while handling the phone in person.
I had a Samsung Wave and it was possible to go in admin menu with a special code and test the hardware + firmware.
Is it possible to do this with the one s / android?
I have heard of 1 bug with the one s, where the capacitive keys go a little crazy because of some GSM radios, is it possible to verify this?
Thanks!

I didnt noticed the helicopterbug anymore since the jellybean update.
What do you mean with testing hard and firmware?

I was thinking about a check of the sensors (acceleration, light, touch) and some firmwares (camera, radio).
For example here is the "service menu" for my samsung wave where i can run test on audio, video, etc.

Type that into the dialer, and the HTC Function Test program should come up.

Thats exactly what I was looking for, thanks.
Will it show if the CPU is s4 vs s3 , or can I see that in the android about setting?

It should say on the box. z520e is S4, z560e is S3.
A quick benchmark with Antutu should also say if it is 1.5GHz (S4) or 1.7GHz (S3)

The menu varies largely - some say dual core, some say 1.5GHz Dual Core, some say 1.7GHz Dual core. No good way to tell. Easiest way open antutu benchmark and check the info tab at the bottom of the screen. Adreno 225 means S4, Adreno 220 means S3.

I'm well aware that there are two different versions and I know you cant flash the ROMS for one on the other, but how can I tell which device I have? I ran CPU Spy and the top used speed is 1512Mhz. Does that clearly translate into the S4?
I searched around and I cant find a clear answer.
Thanks in advance,

Simple, you can't root a One S with a S3 yet.
Is it big difference between S3 and S4? I've bought One S and now I find out that I got S3 :-/ Its 1.7GHz,but its older and it has got lower score in Quadrant than S4.

No........ Your country only sells the S3 model; the one that is not as good. What you get is what you get. If you try to get it replaced, you will still get an S3, if they even replace it for no reason...

Qualcomm improved the S4 a lot! Its probably 1.5x faster than Qualcomm S3. In fact the Dual Core S4 is so impressive, it gives serious competition to the Quad Core Exynos used in the Galaxy S3.
Don't galaxy s3 use the same chips as one s ?

Try to act dumb, be like GSM arena (or any other website) show the specs as S4. It just might work.

The US Versions of Galaxy S3 use the Qualcomm S4 because Samsung can't/won't make Exynos compatible radios that can handle 4G speeds.
The international Versions of Galaxy S3 use the Quad Core Exynos which is faster in some things compared to the Qualcomm S4.
Do I have an S3?
I specifically bought my S3 wanting to have an S3 (i.e., I clarified that it said 1.5 GHz CPU). Now quadrant check gives the following infos, which led me to think that I have a S3 instead. Can someone please confirm whether it is an S3 or S4?
CPU
Name: ARMv7 Processor rev 4 (v7I)
Current freq: 1674 MHz
Max freq: 1674 MHz
Min freq: 192 MHz
COres: 2
Architecture: 7
GogoMIPS: 13.52
Hardware: villec2
Revision: 4
Your device is S3
i am interested in buying one s, but i am confused with the whole s3/s4 issue.
can someone from both sides confirm the following?
s4 box mentions "1.5ghz dual core",
s3 box mentions "dual core"
is it true? i am actually trying to find out a way to recognize the s4 device, without having to open the box...
ps. forgive me if it has already been mentioned. plz point me to the correct topic otherwise. regards.
On my One S box its specifically says "Snapdragon S4 1.5 dual-core processor"

Hey guys .. how you doin?
a Couple of days ago i was going to buy The HTC one S..
Well.. i know it's specs.. that it's an S4 krait 1.5 GHz.....etc
until the guy told me -bragging- this is the 1.7GHz version of the phone..
so i paused a bit.. and changed my mind ..
from now and on.. i'm not going to believe those sellers ..
I wish you guys can tell me how am i supposed 2 realize the difference between the two phones..
Any model number written on the box??
Anything??
..
Cause i don't want the dumb scorpion .. i want the snapdragon s4..
Sira,
Look at wikipedia there is a piece about model numbers for this phone: The two versions have slightly different packaging, the S4 is model z520e and states "Processor: Dual Core, 1.5GHz", whereas the S3 is model z560e and states "Processor: Dual Core".
yw, Koen
I read that in the HTC one S C2 section in GSMarena... and i had 2 make sure..
Thanks A lot
I think i can find that on the box?? right?

I've got the gray one since two weeks, coming from a GS2,before the gs I had a desire hd. I think is probably the best 4.3" phone (my personal size limit for display) very good battery life (about 1d15 in normal conditions and 3g always on). nice display and camera but I prefer shoot with my reflex!
I don't feel the needing of extra battery or memory for the moment. neither a powerful processor!
here the pic of the box, the processor is indicated under the box, first line.

Ok,
I've the S4 processor but it didn't say on the package, they left the 1.5Ghz part out. Only Z520e is printed there. It says:
Model and platform: Z520e, Android with HTC Sense
CPU: Dual Core
etc. etc.
I verified by running AnTuTu benchmark in which it said: CPU frequency 384.0 ~ 1512.0MHz.
Hello,
A friend of mine liked my phone and wants the exact same one. I have the S4 (z520) and in my country all the operators sell the S3 version - z560. The dealer that sold me mine is out of stock now...
We found a re-seller that sells the S4 version, a 100 euro cheaper in stock package with all the stuff, but it seems a bit shady to me.
So the question is how can I check if it really is the S4 or S3 version if it has the stock android? I can compare with mine, still no JB.
Will System->hardware tell any different then mine's Dual core?
The box will tell you. The S3 got 1.7Ghz CPU, while the S4 has 1.5Ghz.
Also, the box also shows the model, z520 in the S4's case.
To check within the phone you need an app that shows the system info (mainly cpu clock). If its 1.5Ghz = S4 and if its 1.7Ghz = S3.
I dont think theres any way to check the cpu clock on the phone without an app for it.

I suggest you go to ROM threads on both S3 and S4 One S. I bet the Devs wld put in the Build of your phone for the ROMS.
Like the guy above me said, you can check ur CPU clock speed by installing a CPU app or just by settings etc

Hello.
I've got HTC One S and I kinda don't know what version is this.
IMEI and the box say it's S3 version (Z560e), but I checked in geekbench - it showed "Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8260 A @ 1.67 GHz".
IMEI says it's 1.50 GHz and S3 version, Geekbench 2 says it's S4. Yet another thing - I can't update to android 4.1.
I don't know what to do I wanted to update to 4.1 with cyanogenmod, but I was afraid I'm running S3 version
[EDIT]
I was wrong.
The Box says it's Z560e (but maybe it's wrong box, I don't know). Sticker on the box has IMEI - I checked the IMEI and it said it's 1.5GHz S4 version. In Geekbench 2 it says 1.67GHz S4 version. How can I be sure which version is that?
Download and Install from the market "CPU Spy".
If you see max 1.5GHz is S4. If you see 1.7 is S3.
Or download "Quick system info", after Processor, CPU Frequency Range, see the clock.
Hope I helped you. :good:
Damn. It's 1.68ghz... It means it's s3. Geekbench and IMEI.info showed it's S3 though.
Model Z520e: S4 @ 1.5 Ghz
Model Z560e: S3 overclocked @ 1.7 Ghz
Just got my One S today, and while it said Z560e and 1.7ghz on the box, both Android System Info and Quadrant displayed 1512mhz and ville.
The IMEI on the box and phone matched as well.
Is it safe to presume that I have the S4, or are there other apps I should use to confirm it?
edit:
Managed to flash TWRP and CM10, so it's confirmed that it's an S4. Still curious about the labeling on the box though.
Just wanted to add that this was an imported phone from Asia that was intended for the Scandinavian market.

Who are you directing this question @?
had MotoQ, BlackBerry Storm, iPhones starting from the 3G... 2 years or so ago i ventured and used a HTC One X for about 3 months.. mainly due to battery life (and the Apple eco system in my house) i went back to iOS and got rid of the HTC. currently have the iPhone 5s.. purchased a HTC One S (this time i am keeping iPhone.. might be switching from time to time), should receive HTC One S on this wednesday, kinda anxious.
Make sure you get the S4 CPU ver of One S. I can't believe people still buying One S, it is a two years old phone though the phone is still good. One X is very bad battery life because of Nvidia T3 CPU.
