Ok so I got my nexus 5 on November 2013. It fell in water and it no longer shows the screen properly but it charges and loads up on pc fine. Can I get a replacement at no cost? The warranty says it doesn't cover psychical damage. If I have to pay for phone again, I'm gonna get Sony Waterproof phone, no point in wasting money on something inferior. This is a picture of the background, it's meant to be one colour

Of course you have to pay if you dropped it in water. Sorry, but why would you expect to get it replaced for free?
Just because this phone isn't waterproof, doesn't mean it's an inferior product. Almost all phones aren't waterproof.
Warranty doesn't cover accidental damage. It covers manufacturer defects. You dropping the phone in water is not a defect. Not of the phone anyway
Unless you have insurance, you'll be buying a new phone.

Not to mention against the law. As sue happy as apple is, if they knew they'd probably sue him.
You messed up. It was your fault. No, it is not, nor will it ever be someone else's responsibility to cover for your stupidity. That being said, suck it up and pay for a new phone.

It depends. There are water indication stickers placed inside the phone that change color when they come into contact with water. If the water never reached the indicators, then they have no proof. BUT the indicators are always put in places where water is most likely to go first, so even if you had your phone out of the water quick enough and dried it off, it still probably wouldn't have made a difference. I say do the right thing. Instead of trying to commit fraud, just buy a new phone.

Just leave it in a bag of rice. It'll attract a Chinese man. And they're very good with electronics

I don't see how that wallpaper could ever have been the same color. Are you saying the black area should have been some sort of blue?

Either way you're not going to see it in a screenshot. I once had quite a long conversation about a guy who thought dead pixels would appear in his screenshots. He then started calling android ridiculous because it didn't have that feature.
This guy is obviously trolling, nobody could be stupid enough to post a screenshot thinking it would show physical damage. Just report the thread and don't feed into it anymore.
edit: This thread feels vaguely familiar to me. Pretty sure someone tried to troll here a while back with the exact same scenario, posting screenshot and all.

If your phone actually looks like it does in the screenshot, the phone is fine. Thats how the wallpaper looks. I really can't take you seriously right now.

It is It is going to a new state, and this state is called "closed"
As already said, yes, they can prove you dropped it in water, and no, you will most likely not get a (free) replacement. That's all that can be said about it.
And as already mentioned, putting it into rice is always the best bet with wet electronics

I had the 'famous' touch screen lockup issues at lockscreen. Well, I tried everything members here suggested and everything failed. So i decided to send it to HTC and i get a phonecall in the middle of my Calculus ii class giving me a quote for *(**$160 DOLLARS to repair the "LCD" reason being that the warrantly sticker was torn???!!!??? I checked before I sent it it!! It was still intact! I mean I know that LCD is not the issue but I kept a straight face and let them charge my credit card.. Now Im just waiting to hear from them and see how much they failed.
HTC u disappoint me.
Dispute it!
If you claim it was under warranty and that the sticker was not torn, first fight them BIG time. If they won't budge then you need to dispute the charge on your credit card stating it was under warranty. (BUT WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE THE PHONE BACK!)
If there is a will there is a way!
Next time take pictures of the phone before you send it anywhere! Its always nice to have proof of the truth if something like this happens

There is only One void sticker on one of the screws on back... Remaining don't have that sticker... Do you guys have it on all screws or one?
that void sticker is so prone to get unstickied and thrown off when u hold phone without back cover.
There must be other ways for sure to check if phone has been opened or not..
btw ..won't u get dust under the screen when u open those screws?
I never opened the phone and clearly remember the void sticker intact. Its so small and HTC want to you send the phone naked without cover and such. I bubble wrapped it very tight. The sticker could get torn when they opened the package.
I wish I had taken a picture. Facepalm.

I saw one only. no worries though. Learned my lesson the hard way. I have had iphones/itouches get broken and apple gave me new ones no questions asked or no excuses given. Just like that. Wish others would step up cause I dont like Apple too much.
My old HTC sensation had signal issues so i sent it for repair, However they did not fix it because I had coloured in the void sticker !!
I had a digitizer replacement on the phone about 2 months before this, And before i sent it off for repair i noticed the void sticker, I assumed it was there because the phone had been opened so i coloured it in lol.
Turns out it was supposed to be there, I had just never noticed it before now, So if i never coloured it in, they would have fixed it !!
Im surprised the void sticker was still intact after having the digitizer replaced, surely the repair guy would have had to remove it to get to the screw underneath ?
Anyway i really shot myself in the foot with this, But luckily enough when it came back from repair centre it had a broken screen So i wrote a massive complaint and they sent me a brand spankin' new one
They couldnt prove how the screen broke, so they also shot themselves in the foot.... But it wasnt me that broke it honest....
Anyway ive got a new one now so il be more cautious with this one, The old one is still here waiting to be sent back... But i think i will keep it a little longer in the hope that they will forget i have got it lol.
when it comes to repairs id rather just do it myself now, sending it in is alot of hassle in itself,

Well first off, why the HELL did you colour the void sticker? I mean how bored can you get, until you open back the back of your sensation (which is a nightmare) and start colouring in the sticker.....
PS: Listen to other people and go to the local shops. As long as you can pay, they will ask no questions.

Their repair service sucks. I sent it a couple of weeks ago and they only fixed half the problems it had and broke WiFi Bluetooth and the vibrate motor. I'm definitely getting a Samsung or the next iPhone when my contract is up :/ sucks cuz I really like htcs phones

holy **** that is funny.
at least htc is better then samsung.
sent my infuse to them and after 14 minutes of them receiving it (according to their update **** that they email you everything they do to the phone blah), they determined it was water damaged (never once did it see water, and all the indicators, even the inside one was still stark white) it was sent back with a nice new red (always red/non liquid reactive) sticker dead center over the IMEI label.
contacted them to no avail. never buying another samsung product ever
So i dropped my skyrocket in water, imediately pulled out the battery then put the phone under a hairdryer. The phone works fine when the battery is above about 30% but when its under that **sometimes** it freezes and shuts off then turns back on. But that only happens sometimes. When you go into the camera it flashes, when you exit it flashes and when you click the front facing camera the flash stays on.
I contact att and i have insurance on it but i have to pay $199 for a brand new when i payed $149 when i got it. So i am definently not doing that. Everything about the phone works fine except for the freezes and the flash so i can deal with it. But my question is if i were to sell it, how much should i ask for it? OR, is there anything i could possibly do to make it work 100%?

Sorry to tell you but it will never be 100%. The damage has been done.
You should've put it in rice or gotten someone else to do it, tell your dad how much it will cost to replace the phone and remind him that the price or rice is still very low (don't do that).
Your best bet at this time is to find a sketchy place that will replace the water damage sticker to make it seem like it was never water damaged and then brick it and then ask for a replacement from AT&T.

45$ is way to low , thats even low if the phone was completely not working.
Its not a completely huge deal, if you were to sell it on ebay I would start at 175, and try again lower if it doesnt sell.
people buy phones that dont even turn on for $100 or more on ebay, then parting it out or using usable parts for themselves
Start at half of retail if you're going to sell.

Don't do this, you have a huge risk of popping a cap or shorting a transistor with your hand. The boards are extremely static sensitive. Not to mention that will literally do nothing. If you had a dirty phone this may help, but water damage shorts circuits together and burns everything in its path.

The place will be local, not somewhere you can ship. If you wanna brick it then load the international s2 ROM on there. It will brick nice and fast
The carrier usually checks for water and physical damage before giving you a replacement though so that's why I said get the film changed.

The phone has a water sensitive film which changes color when it comes in contact with water. This is how they know it's water damaged (doesn't sound fancy I know). So basically you have to go around town to all the little cell phone stores and see which one is willing to change the film. Nobody is going to advertise this because of the legality issues so you're gonna have to do this in person.
Once the film is changed then you can go ahead and get a replacement.
If this isn't your cup of tea then you're better off selling right away and getting a new one.

Got another One X last weekend. I checked the screen thoroughly in store to make sure it was flawless. I have now however noticed that there is a spec of dust under the screen. It was definitely not there when I checked it in store, spent ages on a solid white background making sure.
So is there anyway I can try and get rid of it. It got there on its own somehow so I must at least be able to move it off the side of the screen one way or another. It's no big deal if I can't get rid of it as its hardly noticeable in every day use.
I have tried gently tapping the screen and knocking it on its side but it hasn't moved so far. I don't want to try to hard encase I damage the phone. Don't want to try and take the phone apart and attempt to separate the touch component from the LCD and try either as the phone is so new.
Att will exchange for dust under the screen. But. When the phones been on and in use allowing the screen to get warm about 30 minutes lightly tap in the opposite direction. Should move the dust out.
Work on my iPhone back in the day. :/

My first had dead pixels and a yellow spot. Second had creaking and a rattle. 3rd dent in the lcd panel under the digitizer. The next 5 I unboxed in store. Some had dead pixels and the others had bad dust under the screen.
I didn't tell them were the dust or pixels were, just that there was something wrong with the screen, they pointed them out. The dust under this one is nothing like the ones I unboxed in store a while back, some specs were almost as big as the dot on the letter i which is why I'm going to stick with this one.
I don't think it's to much to ask to get one without dust under the screen seeing as how there are many out there with defect free phones. I feel like I am entitled to the same experience as them, paid the same hard earned money as them after all.. I suspect though that many probably have dust etc but have either not noticed or choose to live with it.
Your right about the phone being extraordinary, which is why I haven't stuck with a refund. Really no going back after you have had a phone like this.
Edit: check this forum out. I'm not the only one with issues and multiple returns. It's a shame so many are having repeat issues.

This guy worked in retail & engineering and the bases of his argument is the fact he thinks dust and imperfections are ludicris for someone to complain about! Now if he worked at the HTC manufacturing plant where they made these phones and can honestly produce manufacturing data depicting margins of error of defect in the manufacture of these devices in several respective categories then we can break the odds down mathematically and prove whether this poster is full of $hit, delusional etc!
Until then I'll keep lolling @ the response It was good
He's got a point... Say the odds of you getting a messed up screen is 1 in 1000... Multiply .001 by itself 9 times. Those are the odds of you actually getting 9 broken phones in a row.
Edit... It's 1x10^-27.... So yeah, you'd win the lottery a couple of times.

There must be a hole between lcd screen which let an ant to go under it. Im sure that hole will cause some dirt to go inside as well which later can create something like a dust cloud inside. Lol sorry it's kind of funny, but I do empathise for you. Had read a thread in the past with the exact same issue on a tablet. I wonder if warranty will cover ants

It's a feature, not a bug.

Warranty covered
Have you been to the store to see if it is under warranty? And what they told you?
Supposedly the screen should be sealed. I think! Or not!
Just contact Samsung and ask them what you should do. Obviously this should not be possible.

I'll attempt blowing some can air into the speaker grill. If that fails ill contact Samsung cuz I bought this from amazon.
if it's still eligible to return, send it back to amazon and just say that it wasn't working properly and you'll get a replacement in a day or so.
ask me how i know....lol.

Could have got in the micro sd slot and crawled around. I worked in the field years ago for a cable company, a lady called in and said her cable box LED display was cutting off numbers so 8's looked like 3's and so on. I went to here house and noticed about 20 roaches inside her box!

Wow that's bad. I would not want to touch anything in that house. Would have to disinfect like the biochemist do.
Hold a vacuum cleaner hose up to wherever you think he got in and maybe it will suck him out?
the memory card slot has always been covered...and i honestly cant see him crawling in through the speaker grill. its way too tiny
Maybe the charging port? Either way tablets are not air tight, and the ant got in.
Pretty sure Amazon can work with you as well, I have always had good customer service experiences with them.
Makes me feel better I paid for the best buy replacement plan
Did anyone else G5 come with scuffs under the tray that hold the sd and sim card? Should I try and get it swapped out through t-mobile?
I honestly don't even see any scuffs

Don't see anything either. Better pictures maybe?
I thought I did but they were clear stickers really.
Sorry I already exchanged the phone, but the dent is in the middle under the tray that holds the sim and micro sd card.
It looks fine!

I haven't examined mine. The reason I haven't, is that I'm OCD and will most definitely find SOMETHING on any phone I get. I'm embarrassed to say this, but I've actually worked on this with my therapist, lol. All I did was check it for dead pixels. I'm putting it in a case tomorrow and am going to try my hardest to not check for defects.

LOL @ OCD.
Well, for all us OCD folks, I highly recommend the Otterbox Defender. We got them for free (normally $50 each) from a TMobile rep hook up via telephone sales. They also gave us Puregear Extreme Impact custom fit screen protectors too ($25), free, in case we did want to use the Otterbox (which also has a screen protector anyway).
Does anybody else have a small gap at the bottom? I mean where the module pops out.

I have a tiny gap. I can only see it if I shine a light behind it and look directly at it but it is there.
I really love the phone so not sure if I should care or not.

It sucks doesn't? I legit have it to (I absolutely hate when people joke about having it. It's awful and not fun. Every minute of the day is a struggle..). I obsess over every phone I buy. I've also been working on not checking for things.

For me, it's not a problem about what will happen to the phone if I drop it or anything, it's more about obsessing over there being a problem with it right after opening it up. Screen coloration issues, scratches, etc. And the worst part is having that thought that, "Well I could exchange it and get a perfect one. There's always that chance." That's never worked out. I've returned and exchanged so many phones just from obsessing. The solution is to just use the phone. Not matter what. The 4th R: (read the book Brain Lock for info on the 4 R's). Do what you would be doing if you weren't having this obsession.
Easier said than done lol.

I ended up checking it for imperfections, and....I couldn't take it. I swapped out for an HTC 10. =/
