Just in case

This binary port combine AOSPA for Tab 3 from @bakxsteen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713660, official AOSPA for Note 2, and multi languages MIUI for Nexus 7 2013 from miuiandroid.com, patched CM's surfaceflinger, patched framework-res.apk for voice, SMS, and mobile data support.

I really like MIUI, it's one of those rare examples of a company taking something great and actually making it better. Xiaomi has finally made the entire source code tree available, including the kernel, so we can expect some really interesting up and coming ports. I recently helped a friend install MIUI, he was frustrated with TouchWiz on his Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, TouchWiz was taking up to much memory, an unbelievable 800MB of system memory. He was experiencing lag and major memory problems when using app's as simple as a browser. MIUI, not only made this little guy faster by an unbelievable factor of 10 but the screen actually looked better, so much so that I too just might grab me an S4 or S5 mini and install MIUI on it. Really, I was quite impressed on how wonderful the whole experience was. Oh the system memory, MIUI only took up 380MB, half that of TouchWiz, just amazing. After the install we compared the speed of the now MIUIized S4 Mini to my friends wifes stock S4 Mini, wow, just wow, it was like night and day better, instant computing fast. The UI really is perfect for phones and small tablets like a Nexus 7, even without out all of the gimmicky crap.
I encourage anyone who is fed upped with TouchWiz to give MIUI a go, it will definitely renew your confidence in your phone. I now have it installed in my old Note and it's like a new phone. It's becoming a real problem on how unoptimized TouchWiz, Samsung really needs to completely start from scratch instead of piling on new features just to say, "look, we have that iPhone feature too", just gimmicks and bloat, that's all it is.

I plan to release MIUI Tablet for Tab 2 7.0 today. For Tab 3 8.0, it's depends on user interest. MIUI runs smoother on Tab 3, my daily ROM for now

Great idea for Tab 3, thanks for possible continuing development on the 3.7", and please: Can you build a debloated (google-free) lite version for T210?

Only interested if you can get all of the hardware to work properly including the IR blaster.

No offense meant, but this is the kind of comment that makes devs say 'screw it'; I know, I hear it all the time on my threads. Laying it out there that you won't use this unless it's perfect is the kind of thing that really should be kept to yourself. As I said once in my Beanstalk thread, there should be some money in his Paypal account because only employers get away with talking like that. Remember this is all for free and in someone's spare time. Just sayin' :highfive:

The hardest part is bluetooth. More difficult than sound, hardware accelerated graphics, rotation and screenshot artifacs, sensors, WiFi, voice, SMS, data, and IR  Everything will works if Xiaomi give me the source code

Only speaking for myself of course, I don't use Bluetooth, so that's one thing I could live without for the moment. Take yer time man, get it right and then let it fly!

Maybe there is something possible as "essential", for instance without BT, voice, IR!?

You can try, immediately flash NEXT kernel for T310 after. No support for this discontinued project, sorry.

No offense but the man asked for opinions and I gave my opinion, if you have a different opinion more power to you but keep your insults to yourself.. I am a developer, I understand the work that goes in. Doesn't keep me from giving honest opinions. I like all the hardware I paid for to be working on any ROM I use.

Wasn't trying to insult you or anything else. And if you are a dev I would think you'd totally understand my comments. I want this to work perfectly as well but apparently that isn't possible right now. Have a good one.
Now that I have time to look back on the thread, this is your 'opinion'? "Only interested if you can get all of the hardware to work properly including the IR blaster." And I'M the one who's being insulting?? Why would you even bother posting that? If you are a dev, you should not only agree with my response, but I would assume that you have had many similar 'opinions' handed to you when your builds don't function perfectly from jump. I didn't insult you; I simply tried to say that that sort of comment is the type of thing that makes people angry when they are spending all of their free time trying to get something off the ground. You SHOULD understand that, but apparently don't. You want ME to keep my comments to myself? Maybe you should do the same. Have a nice day

So sad!
That is really sad.
P6200 has almost the same spec as galaxy tabs 2 7.0 and it should be an easy job for Samsung to write the ics update of P6200.

While I question is this is the right section for this post, I'll just add that I did chat with Samsung support yesterday in regards to ICS. Peel support (remote control app) basically told me that my LCD TV (Olevia brand) has an issue that is known and is going to be fixed in ICS. So I of course as Samsung when ICS is coming and was told "IF it is released, not when".
I clarified with him a number of times.
He stood by If not when it is released.
Samsung has already announced that they will be releasing ICS for the Tab Plus:
https://www.facebook.com/notes/sams...dwich-upgrade-for-galaxy-s-ii/390405030989148
If you look about halfway down it says:
"ICS for GALAXY Note, GALAXY S II LTE, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus, 7.7, 8.9, 8.9 LTE and 10.1 will follow soon"

Well the release of tab 2 will be end of April so we can expect ics a month or two after that. They have to make money after all.

Why Do I Want ICS BTW?
I've had my 7+ for 6 months now. Other than the low-level audio problem, I'm extremely happy with the way it performs. I'm not a gamer. I'm not a tinkerer. I don't want to design my own fancy UI with cool animation. I don't want to do any 'work' on the Tab.
I just want to look at and listen to stuff. I even found a Media Player that finally displays the Album Art properly. Netflix works, OfficeSuite works, PowerAmp, TuneIn, email, they all work. Perfectly (almost).
I feel like I'm missing some majorly cool stuff that I won't be able to do as I sit here happily noodling along with Honeycomb while you lot are all blazing away with ICS, doing something else. What do I need ICS for?

I want it for the Peel remote fixes and the hope that the HBO GO app is finally compatible with our device. Not to mention lockscreen player capability added to Google Music.
Could always be worse (not much worse) but we could just get a "value pack" like Galaxy S devices.
Bahahahaha.
Is anyone really surprised that Samsung is taking their time to rollout an update?
But seriously, I always say that I am never buying another Samsung device for this reason, but then I always end up buying another Samsung device.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0's release is being delayed to the end of the month, according to Samsung themselves. The reason is because they just haven't got ICS working properly with the device yet.
Whilst this is no doubt frustrating for some, at least they are waiting until they've got it ready. There's a general tacit acceptance that any release of any products software will come with bugs that will reveal themselves, and I for one would rather wait a little longer so that the "final" product has less of the buggers to deal with when released.
Whilst Samsung won't confirm I think that it is reasonable to assume that when the Tab 2 gets released then there should be ICS for our beloved Tab+ following swiftly afterwards... Aside from the slower CPU (and why is the newer product getting a slower ) the two units are pretty darn similar, are they not ?
And lets be honest, it's not as if our beloved Tab+ is suffering terribly with Honeycomb... IT IS A GREAT STANDALONE product. Want it to look different? Go investigate some of the Launchers available from the app store/market. Want it to perform differently? Take a manup pill and ROM the bastard, I managed it, and I'm a grumpy old Windows luddite.
Some people are speculating that the hold up for the Tab 2 is due to it using the new Broadcom SoC. The Tab Plus uses the Exynos which is already working for ICS on the SGSII.
Of course, this is just hearsay and speculative but I do hope the development for ICS on the Tab Plus is just as much completed as it is on the Tab 2.

Agreed. In fact, the Tab+ is running what I believe is a newer version of Honeycomb than what was generally available on other devices (most HC tablets were running 3.0 or 3.1, Tab+ is running 3.2).
Honeycomb got a particularly bad rap for having a buggy initial release that needed a couple of minor updates to get everything ironed out. What most folks seem to be overlooking is that ICS was pretty much the exact same way. My wife's Xoom is running ICS and it got another point release just last week that fixed some stability issues and problems with screen rotations.
I won't lie, I'd like an upgrade to ICS but I don't want to go from fully-baked HC to half-baked ICS either. And having used a Tab+ w/HC3.2 side by side to a Xoom w/ICS, I honestly don't think us Tab+ users are missing out on a whole lot.
I just purchased by GT7+ a few weeks ago, and I'm very happy with the device and Honeycomb seems to work just fine.
I do have some experience with releasing software for consumer devices. I'm in the operations group supporting a product with millions of customer devices. Finalizing and releasing software is a grueling process. Making sure that no one missed that one bug that will drive customer service calls is an ordeal. When a bug is found... Reset, everything starts over with the new build.
I don't mind waiting (granted since I'm a new owner I'm not really waiting) if they get it right the first time it will be worth it.
they needa hurry:-| remove all that bloatware i say! i assume this tablet is very new? i just got it so im not hundred precent sure on when it was released to the consumer i just would like to see why its taking alot of ram and be able to run newest software;-)

[butthurt thread] do not buy this phone

Epic slow official updates, epic high price (I bought this for 475$ in my country, yeah, I know that it's highly overpriced), crappy firmware, slow development.
Go buy Nexus 4 instead.
That's all, thanks.

Well i got it from my carrier at no cost, and i my month bill is around 15 euros so it was a good deal for me. Official JB is crap but CM10.1 is awesome and I think people shoud get this phone because it will probably get 4.2 at some point.
In my country it has the best price-quality relationship (better than S2). The S3 and S4 are so expensives. Of course you need to know how to root and change the kernel to take adventage of the hardware it has, else JB will be laggy. People with money and no experience with android may opt for an S3 or S4.
This not the end, we're waiting for ST-Ericsson to release the sources. If it happens this smartphone will be even better.
I want an XPERIA SP or ZL ): Lot of reasons... Have to wait 5 months until getting some of these ):
But, anyways, love CM, look at this.
Needed some initial tweaking with Pimp my Rom to decrease nearly more than 120Mb of RAM
I'd prefer CM10 (it's CM10.1) but this seems to get stabler soon than a version already out. 4.1.2

Hey, I'm using this phone for about 4 months now and I've tried everything, but it's still very slow. CM is good, but atm it has too much bugs to use it as a daily driver.
Also, go on and check your displays in service tests, guys (*#0*# on stock rom). Mine had got a lot of artefacts (horizontal and vertical lines on different colors, textured and sort-of yellow white color, etc.), also it's overheating as hell now (it's so hot sometimes that I can't touch it), so I'm going to return it. Going to service tommorow.
When I bought was great choice.
Today there are more options.
But I still like Galaxy Advance ..
It was what I needed.I like the screen, video recordings, photographs, sound quality, overall stability. When I bought already knew these details and for me it was enough.
Also never had problems with calls, SMS, GPS, Bluettooh, etc..
When JB came shortly met COCORE and lags are gone.
Always used STOCK ROM. Only root and Cocore.Use only one MOD (Beats Audio)
In my case I can not complain.
It works.
Not my feel "cheated"
Quite the contrary.
About customs roms, etc ... To me they are a bonus, but not really necessary.
The Galaxy Advance will continue to serve me well until the next choice.

+1 on nexus 4. Still my choice even if it's a bit old now. :highfive:
I think its quite obvious that whoever will buy now choose one of many releases that have emerged.
it's normal to want others with more powerful CPU, Ram, etc..
Since 9070 was released many others were.
it depends on the needs each user.
And make no mistake. After "buy the gadgets of your dreams today," very soon no longer be.
At the time, in my country (argentina) the SGSA was offered at less than half the price of an S2 (the S2 was like 2500 and I paid 1200 for my SGSA). Definitively a good buy for me, money-wise.
I'm just disappointed by samsung's JB release, looks like they didn't put much effort in it, but i've come to learn that you should expect that for a mid-end device. Sometimes it's better to buy an old flagship like the S2 because it has better support overall by the devs, and by the manufacturer
HTC One Mini looks like it's gonna be awesome though (talking about mid-end market)
Jelly Bean was not perfectly implemented in any model.
There were several problems. Including the Google version.
http://goo.gl/KhKIO
I do not know why it should be perfect for I9070.
Search NEXUS users if they stay with the JB Google.
They take the gadget and then swap the rom.
In version 4.2.2 it was still fixing bugs, including performance.
And I do not know if finished.
I got mine for free on a cheap contract, it was either this or the LG L7(no thanx) it has some issues but no big deal, I might get a nexus 4 in a month or two

It is still a decent phone, IF it is rooted, have a custom kernel and bloatware eliminated.
I dream at a device who has the processing power and memory of a flagship but the screen at the same dimension as ours. I'm not a fan of big screens, as they are unconfortable to carry on my pocket. Still searching of it.

Unfortunately this pattern (big screens.) is being imposed .
Up to 4.3 (Galaxy S2) I still think reasonable. But for me 4 "is perfect.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Running Android 1.5?

It would be the most amazing thing if someone could get the highest-end phone out right now and flash the lowest version of Android on it. I haven't seen anybody do this, so I'm curious: is it even possible to downgrade a phone by so much? This is both an idea and question, so bear with me. In your opinion, do you think the S4 would run slower or faster? Slower because the lowest android was built some 4 years ago and isn't really optimized (beta of Android). Faster because the S4 doesn't need to work half as much, and has well over the minimum processing power needed to run smoothly. So, what do the XDA community think- is it possible, is it faster, or is slower?

I think you'll encounter a huge issue with app and hardware compatibility. Over the various versions many changes were made, such as support for more screen resolutions, higher frame rate support, support for front facing cameras, USB tethering and wifi hotspot support and better battery management, just to list a few.
So yeah, using a lower version would be a step backwards, and really would not make the most of the features available on newer devices.

If you really find it amazing, maybe you should start petition to Samsung for S4 Retro Edition
Such devices, should have promised support for two years, with at least three DOWNgrades through OTA (Android 1.4, 1.3 and 1.2). Screen would be black and white, 128x64, mono sound and resistive touch panel.
btw. I just got BMGA update yesterday for my I9505, and I am happy with these cutting edge Android versions from Samsung. I value this Samsung commitment in Android development and fixing, so rather do not count on me in your "retro" mission... I will not put my money on such product.

Better yet why dont you install win 3.1 on your notebook or pc?
There's a workaround to it. The easiest and fastest way to do it: you have to modify the build.prop. Search for this part:
ro.build.version.release=4.3
Change it to:
ro.build.version.release=1.5
Hope it helped!
???????
Why the hell would would you want android 1.5 on the S4......... But whatever floats your boat.

My workphone is still stuck (officially) on GB 2.3.6, and trust me, I'm not happy about it.
And I know people who still use 2.1, and well, they aren't happy either.
The newer versions of Android have introduced a really great feature set, and going backward on one of the most (if not the most) high end device doesn't make much sense.
Personally, I wouldn't want Windows 1.0 on my laptop either.

We have already provided you with exclusive previews of Android 5.0 Lollipop running on multiple Samsung devices, such as the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy S4, today we have something similar to show you once again. Its Android 5.0 Lollipop on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
We have got our hands on an internal build of Lollipop for Galaxy Note 3. It shows us just how Samsung’s new TouchWiz UI looks on last year’s phablet flagship, while bringing support for all of the new features that come as part and parcel of Android 5.0 Lollipop. It looks pretty similar to Lollipop on the S4, and only the Settings and Multi-Window have been updated.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/UmFRLu_mSCQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmFRLu_mSCQ
As far as the user interface is concerned there are new animations which are smoother than before, while the core green elements of Android Lollipop have been replaced with Samsung’s signature blue color. These design changes are pretty evident in the attached screenshots which also depict the new system-wide font, new icon colors in Settings, and an overall better look and feel.
The new Multi-Window feature from Galaxy Note 4 also makes an appearance and it’s here to stay, enhancing the multitasking feature on this handset.
Please note that for safety reasons we cannot leak this particular build right now, but that won’t stop us from giving all of you the first look at Lollipop on the Galaxy Note 3.

4 now nothing !! the export date as i expect next december !!
Oh i almost forget it's 4 The SM-N9005 release !!
Sad to see that everything Samsung touches looks like sh*t imo.
Touchwiz really needs an big overhaul, why would they make it all bright and shiny, Samsung's phones have Amoled screens. My guess will be that the battery life will be worse by quite a big margin on L.
I don't like it.

Use MIUI ROM..it is based on TW..
That looks just like kitkat! I seriously recommend Samsung ditches TW in favour of vanilla android because everything that bloke showed in the video looks exactly the same as 4.4....theirs no freshness to it, nothing new to look forward to, stupid and ugly TW over beautiful vanilla android! Ergh! I'm staying well away from that! If its not broken....don't fix it and **** it up. I understand that the TW framework is needed for the spen features, maybe TW needs a major overhaul because at the moment it just looks dull.
Since lollipop has new camera API. Does that mean this update will improve image quality or add more features?
Someone please give me proper aosp with sammy spen(not 3rd party solution). Samsung listen to us, please.

All I know for this moment the features will be improved in the s pen abilities and a similar apps like note 4 !! And a few updates but not with the big deal
Any way let's wait for the firmware release date
I absolutely don't like the looks of Lollipop, neither vanilla and neither TouchWiz and I hate the white-themed Settings (especially considering the AMOLED screen). I disabled animations everywhere I could, so these new ones don't appeal to me at all. And Material Design is way overrated. I'll eventually use a custom ROM, the technical improvements are nice to have though.

The way I see it it's all about preference. Samsung should never have made TouchWiz like this, all bloated and cluttered. Android should be used how it supposed to be, the Nexus way, but that doesn't mean on giving up stuffs like a great display, a good camera and other stuffs.
I sold my S4, because of TouchWiz, got damn bored of it, bought a Moto X, loved it, software wise, but then again I could not stand that awful display and brilliant camera. So here I am back again with Samsung, just craving for a good display, and I got it, compromisation had to be made, and I chose software, that's all.
You can't have it all, but still Samsung should ditch TouchWiz, no matter what.

As I said this thread from sammobile
Which means I'm not the writer of this topic !! but for me I'm so impressed by the s pen features from the note 4
Anyway everyone is free in his choices ☺?
Samsung should really ditch touchwiz. It looks even worse on lollipop, and it's probably bloated to hell as usual.
Haters, haters everywhere. Come on, it doesn't look that bad, switch that awful keyboard and change the wallpaper and it actually looks pretty good. It's not the best material design implementation but it's definitely a step in the right direction. Give me the new note 4 pen features and I'm a happy user.

Lol. AOSP is barebones, has so much less features. And the device is not powerful, it is midrange.
You're not making much sense at all.
You could say MIUI is bloated or buggy compared to AOSP, of course.
If you got Xiaomi device but don't like MIUI, then you made a mistake. It's the only reason to get a Xiaomi device - official MIUI. There are cheaper options if you only want a minimal AOSP-like firmware.

Let's begin with lol. You said it yourself, it's a mid-range phone. MIUI's kernel manages resources far too inefficiently, it don't chews up wayyyy to many resources. It does, however, happen to have fairly capable CPU clusters. Therefore AOSP handles literally every single task load far superior.
This phone's Achilles Heal is it's memory and management thereof. Why wear a weighted vest when you're trying to swim? Go with AOSP, and enjoy the ability to add modular features through magisk, Xposed, etc. I can add just about any kind of customization using those tools, and perform hot laps around a side-by-side MIUI ROM on this device.
I didn't make any mistake purchasing this phone, which happens to be as cheap as cheap gets (How do you get cheaper than $170?). If you signed up here just for stock MIUI firmware, then you my friend, are the one who made the mistake. This community self-sustains itself through the continuous development of new software.

Xposed is horrible, I've had enough of it and had enough of unstable buggy AOSP forks and that's why I moved back to MIUI. Many modules are closed source or very bloated - I want two or three features and things like GravityBox hook like a hundred framework methods even though they do nothing. There is significant overhead of Xposed literally intercepting every invocation. Don't even get me started on the stability and security issues of Xposed.
I know MIUI too is closed source, but at least we have guys like Xiaomi.eu who are cleaning up that trash. And I'm working on a project powered by DexPatcher that will expand on that ideal, making Xposed modules finally obsolete and not f***ing around with the core services like Xposed does, not that you'd care about that because you can't be a hyperactive modder with this "set and forget" alternative.
You need to install all those modules, but with MIUI I don't NEED those modules because so much is already stock lol. MIUI is just so much nicer to use, I'm one of those people who actually has a life outside Android hacking - being an IT professional demands a productive device and MIUI provides that. With AOSP I have to install so many market apps to get the same functionality.
AOSP forks, ugh. They would just randomly break or start to get battery issues. They make MIUI weekly regressions look like typos. I had enough.
How is getting a Xiaomi phone just for Xiaomi's own aftermarket firmware a mistake? "Continuous development of new software"? But I want MIUI, and the best and fastest way to get MIUI is by an official device. Are you trying to say that some Indian dude using PatchROM who can't even type English properly is a more reliable source than a company who actually makes money off their product? You don't even make sense.
MIUI are actually innovating and adding new features, and they actually listen to their fans and take votes on features. AOSP forks are all bro clubs who do what THEY think is best. Cyanogen tried to take that mindset commercially and look how successful they were lol.
Maybe you're too young to remember but MIUI started as a custom firmware, just like CyanogenMod and all the rest. Now they're the biggest smartphone ODM in China and a massive financial success. Is it so hard to admit that everything you feel about them is just an opinion?
You claimed that AOSP is "more of an experience" than MIUI, and that the device is "held-back" by MIUI which I consider as plain wrong. It's fine if you prefer the lean and light AOSP, but you're implying that it has more features and capability than MIUI which is absolutely false. It has more POTENTIAL, sure, with Xposed and other crap tweaks and mods that most people don't care about, but once you do that the stability and performance advantage of AOSP is severely diminished. Also you get no SafetyNet with Xposed whatsoever.
What do you mean by hotlaps? You must mean benchmarks because I really don't notice any speed difference on my AOSP Cherry Trail tablet with multitasking and UI responsiveness. You may have faster benchmarks on your AOSP, but what is the point of all that speed when the most advanced stock capability it has is a calculator? Meanwhile, I have my full-blown Deny-All/Allow-some Firewall in MIUI with active notifications standard: you have to root and install clumsy iptables front ends to get that functionality. Which then needs to have new apps manually allowed instead of a prompt. I could go on, there are SO MANY things that MIUI just does already that AOSP/Xposed modules either does poorly or not at all.
You just sound like a blind Xiaomi hater. I have seen all the problems with Redmi Note 4x on AOSP. I have the low end 2GB MTK variant and I don't have any major complaints with "bloated" MIUI. It was pretty bad at first, yeah, but latest firmwares are great. Fast, good multitasking, good battery life. Can't say the same about all the crapware ROM's people are building for mido.
For that price I'm pretty sure you could of gotten an Android One device with far better ROM hacking support. Since all you seem to care about is screwing around with your phone and modding it, Xiaomi is like the worst choice. Everybody knows how bad they are at honouring the GPL. And guess what - people still buy their devices because they're *that good*.
Just accept the fact that people still love MIUI for some reasons and it is actually better in some ways that are more important to people. Trying to make up stories about how it's technically inferior to MIUI and implying that MIUI fans are all dumb just makes you look like a pretentious and antisocial jerk with insecurity issues.
Agree to disagree and move on. Just don't disrespect MIUI users in a Xiaomi device forum, that's no better than trolling.
I've been hacking and developing Android firmware for over ten years, I even worked for a Chinese ODM for a couple years co-designing firmware. I used to be like you, I got excited by custom firmwares and Xposed and all that. But now that I've grown up and got other things in life to worry about, I just want something that is flexible and works well - and MIUI fits that bill. So don't condescend us, little man - everybody is different and you're no "better" than us just because you're a purist.
I admit AOSP is generally faster and snappier, but MIUI does more (without breaking security hardening by installing Xposed). Plain and simple. Obviously MIUI's extras are not useful to you, so it's fine that you don't like it. That's all there is to it.
