[butthurt thread] do not buy this phone - Galaxy S Advance I9070 General

Epic slow official updates, epic high price (I bought this for 475$ in my country, yeah, I know that it's highly overpriced), crappy firmware, slow development.
Go buy Nexus 4 instead.
That's all, thanks.

Well i got it from my carrier at no cost, and i my month bill is around 15 euros so it was a good deal for me. Official JB is crap but CM10.1 is awesome and I think people shoud get this phone because it will probably get 4.2 at some point.

In my country it has the best price-quality relationship (better than S2). The S3 and S4 are so expensives. Of course you need to know how to root and change the kernel to take adventage of the hardware it has, else JB will be laggy. People with money and no experience with android may opt for an S3 or S4.
This not the end, we're waiting for ST-Ericsson to release the sources. If it happens this smartphone will be even better.

I want an XPERIA SP or ZL ): Lot of reasons... Have to wait 5 months until getting some of these ):
But, anyways, love CM, look at this.
Needed some initial tweaking with Pimp my Rom to decrease nearly more than 120Mb of RAM
I'd prefer CM10 (it's CM10.1) but this seems to get stabler soon than a version already out. 4.1.2

Hey, I'm using this phone for about 4 months now and I've tried everything, but it's still very slow. CM is good, but atm it has too much bugs to use it as a daily driver.
Also, go on and check your displays in service tests, guys (*#0*# on stock rom). Mine had got a lot of artefacts (horizontal and vertical lines on different colors, textured and sort-of yellow white color, etc.), also it's overheating as hell now (it's so hot sometimes that I can't touch it), so I'm going to return it. Going to service tommorow.

When I bought was great choice.
Today there are more options.
But I still like Galaxy Advance ..
It was what I needed.I like the screen, video recordings, photographs, sound quality, overall stability. When I bought already knew these details and for me it was enough.
Also never had problems with calls, SMS, GPS, Bluettooh, etc..
When JB came shortly met COCORE and lags are gone.
Always used STOCK ROM. Only root and Cocore.Use only one MOD (Beats Audio)
In my case I can not complain.
It works.
Not my feel "cheated"
Quite the contrary.
About customs roms, etc ... To me they are a bonus, but not really necessary.
The Galaxy Advance will continue to serve me well until the next choice.

But just because its battery didn't last a ****. And the screen was very small D:
Now i don't even care having the phone brightness always to the max c:
Now i won't waste any of my savings from here to december to jump straight to the XPERIA ZL :3

+1 on nexus 4. Still my choice even if it's a bit old now. :highfive:

I think its quite obvious that whoever will buy now choose one of many releases that have emerged.
it's normal to want others with more powerful CPU, Ram, etc..
Since 9070 was released many others were.
it depends on the needs each user.
And make no mistake. After "buy the gadgets of your dreams today," very soon no longer be.

At the time, in my country (argentina) the SGSA was offered at less than half the price of an S2 (the S2 was like 2500 and I paid 1200 for my SGSA). Definitively a good buy for me, money-wise.
I'm just disappointed by samsung's JB release, looks like they didn't put much effort in it, but i've come to learn that you should expect that for a mid-end device. Sometimes it's better to buy an old flagship like the S2 because it has better support overall by the devs, and by the manufacturer
HTC One Mini looks like it's gonna be awesome though (talking about mid-end market)

Jelly Bean was not perfectly implemented in any model.
There were several problems. Including the Google version.
http://goo.gl/KhKIO
I do not know why it should be perfect for I9070.
Search NEXUS users if they stay with the JB Google.
They take the gadget and then swap the rom.
In version 4.2.2 it was still fixing bugs, including performance.
And I do not know if finished.

I got mine for free on a cheap contract, it was either this or the LG L7(no thanx) it has some issues but no big deal, I might get a nexus 4 in a month or two

It is still a decent phone, IF it is rooted, have a custom kernel and bloatware eliminated.
I dream at a device who has the processing power and memory of a flagship but the screen at the same dimension as ours. I'm not a fan of big screens, as they are unconfortable to carry on my pocket. Still searching of it.

Unfortunately this pattern (big screens.) is being imposed .
Up to 4.3 (Galaxy S2) I still think reasonable. But for me 4 "is perfect.

Exactly the same situation here. If Samsungs new device sucks then its definately gotta be the S. Just hoping that the Galaxy's screen isnt as big as the One X's one. It's just too much... :what:

Well, even though it has it critics, and I do go through periods of using AOSP (and prob will on the S once it's available and stable) I still think Sense is the best custom UI on Android. Simple really, SGS3 can't match that element
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Supposedly its going to have a 1080p screen, to me this is a bad thing.
1) I bet it is bigger than the ONE S and I wasn't quite happy with the size of the ONE X
2) It takes more horse power to run it, so its processor and graphics may be higher but side by side performance will probably be similar due to it having to push more pixels about the place. Also.. 1080p.. on a phone... What's the F'in point??
First i'm 100% sure that Galaxy S III won't have 2gb of ram neither 1080p screen. Its a next generation and since theres obvious settlement betwen manufacturers you can expect same specs as One X. And i'm also pretty sure that it won't have SD card, every manufacturer stops using them, why should they use them, about removable battery i'm not sure, if new galaxy is gonna be thinner then i guess it will have non removable battery.
I think the S3 will have 4.7 screen, so its big, also display will be as good as X. About other specs - I suspect quad core processor, some good graphic component, rumors about 12mp camera.
But anyway, there are only rumors atm, and Im not fan of S2, so I will go for One S as soon as it avaible here

however a display bigger than 4,6" is much to big for my taste...
if thats going to happen, i probably will get myself a ONE S
If it takes T-mobile US as long as it did to get the Galaxy S 2....i'm not waiting.
But then again, i don't want to wait. Im tired of Samsung's plastic devices, ugly touch wiz, and international Galaxy S3 will be different from the US Galaxy S3, which will hinder dev support.
Im sure the one s will have great dev support like the sensation. Every one S around the world will be the exact same and will run the same roms.
The only thing i was hating about htc phones was the bad slcd screen, so happy theres amoled now, and i dont care if its pentile.

nothing compares to HTC GPS. I can get a lock in under 15 seconds. no tweaks.
i never lose the satellite. Its found me home many times
kinda yes, I really like GS2 and SAMOLED Plus is great. But we still don't know if GS3 will be SAMOLED HD or SAMOLED HD Plus. It's most likely be the same size as One X, packing same or better CPU, probably same or better quality camera, and most likely missing things like notification light and noise canceling mic.

Same boat as @tf442. I have a "first month out" Vibrant and GPS has been abysmal from the get-go. I have flashed at least a dozen ROMS (probably more)from Bionix, Trigger all the way to ICS 4.0.4 and they vary, but still no where near other manufacturers GPS. I will not give $$$ to Samsung since they went on the pine in acknowledging any issues with GPS. That, and quit with FROYO. Not good for a top-end phone at the time.
I am eligible for upgrade now, but I don't think I am going to. I might wait out until mid to end-year to upgrade. I am pretty satisfied with my G2 still. Everyone swears it's a great backup phone, but I like it as my main phone all the same.

[Q] Android 4.2 : Project Roadrunner and Customization Center

Recently, news of a 4.2 update to Android surfaced : http://www.technobuffalo.com/compan...omization-center-project-roadrunner-and-more/ - if this is true, users will no longer need to charge their devices every 1-2 days and will have tons of "official" UIs (as TW, Sense etc. or user-made ones). But the biggest point is that all devices that get up to 4.2 will no longer have to wait for the OEMs to release their custom updates and will have the choice to do vanilla Android upgrades and later apply their specific skin (TW for us, Sense for HTC users etc.). So, what do you think, will you still be using your Galaxy R by the time we get (4.1 and) 4.2 ? Will you switch to a Nexus device (like the rumored 1st tier-specced LG Optimus Nexus or the 2nd tier-specced Samsung Galaxy Nexus II) to avoid not-so-popular phone problems like ours has ?
I've already sold my S2 and ordered Galaxy Nexus...I guess I'll stay with that a year or two. I know that OMAP 4 is less powerful than exynos but...devs just love it and I hope I won't have to worry about updates (look at nexus s).

Concept is very nice but this is so far from reality buddy because in this short time its very difficult to work on these many changes, I don't think this is will be possible in 4.2 but hope for the best, if it happens defiantly i will buy new Nexus device (Samsung/LG) or even current Galaxy Nexus is also very nice.....

You're right mate :good: I am m.kochan10 and I am a flashoholic hehe
I played little bit with jb on gnex in one carrier's shop and was shocked over this scrolling fluidity. I'd say gnex with stock jb is smoother than S3! It's the best picture of what good software means for the device.
well I am still proud owner of Galaxy R because before Android/XDA I used to compare phones on GSMarena before buying mobile or while suggesting someone, but after Android/XDA my thoughts have changed totally, regarding things to be considered, so after reading and learning things about flashing and Pimping Android to make it better than what your OEM provides you, it is quit clear that my next phone would be Nexus, one friend is coming from USA next month, so probably LG Nexus would be in my hand within 2 months, if not in budget then GNex is sure, and m.kochan10 has taken right decision, with any Nexus in your hand, you will never regret for at-least 2 years after seeing those tempting Specs of those SGS3, SGNotes or HTC One series, you wont give a flying @&$* about whatever OEMs comes with their flagship because you will be having your precious in hand.
and for all this useful knowledge I will always be thankful to my lovely Galaxy Royale
Yes, Royale will always have a sentimental value for me too. I learned a lot android while I was sgr's user! Before that I just could flash zips
PS.It's very hard to buy GNex now. In Sweden it's practically out of the stock and out of sale. Only few retailers/carriers still offer it for prices...hm equal or higher than in case of quad-core flagships. I ordered mine on ebay cos the price difference was really huge. So...I guess something is going on with the new nexus-line.
@parmarket...me too...i used to rely on gsmarena....
Bt after xda..it has changed me too...
@m.kochan.. Definitely R wld have sentiments attached s its first droid n leavin it wld b bit difficult...
M nt wid nexus..bt m with open hardware devices or devicrs that r dev friendly...
My friend has nexus prime n yes transition r awesome...
I even checked s3 of my frnd...even his scrolling or transition were smooth
Both were on stock rom wid s3 on ics n gnex on jb

I do agree with m.kochan and everybody who is posting in this thread. I will also go for nexus. Will order that from ebay. I m huge fan of galaxy royal bt due to limited user and limited support i have to take hard decision. BTW i will choose Gnex.
My friend have gnote and s3. Bro has s2. Now i would go for gnex. One step ahead of all of my friends and bro. In case of getting updation. I will b on No. 1.

Is th skyrocket still a good phone to get?

I've been looking into it for awhile and I can get it now for $29 with my upgrade. I have also been looking at the Sony Xperia ion....and it's free at the moment. They seem to have the same hardware other than the ion having a 12mp camera. Do you all still enjoy your phone and would you still recommend this one?
it's still a good phone but the gs3 is a bit better.
The s3 is better. Internals are pretty much the same. Good CPU (1.5ghz) with meh gpu (skyrocket has adreno 200 gs3 has adreno 220?). But the bigger screen, higher resolution, and better battery life would be worth the extra $$$ to me. Just my 2 cents

Skyrocket and Xperia ion have the same CPU/GPU and has similar insides.
The Xperia has a slightly bigger screen but is also 1280x720 resolution (vs 800x480 on the Skyrocket)
The Xperia has a better camera 12mp (vs 8mp on the Skyrocket)
But the only con with the Xperia ion is the development community is not as big or at least not on XDA and I don't see them on the Cyanogenmod list so they may not be getting a lot of support in terms of custom ROMs (if you like to customize).

The phone was released around June time so it could get bigger overtime but that usually depends on how much people will go for that phone but in most cases its overshadowed by the Samsung S3.
If you can get an S3 as a choice it would be better because it has a larger community, its new and its Samsung's current flagship phone so they will have continued support for a while and hardwarewise it is superior to both the Skyrocket and Xperia as it has the newer S4 CPU (vs the S3 CPU) which is more faster and efficient so even if you dont tweak it you will have good battery life.
In terms of Xperia vs Skyrocket the Skyrocket has a larger community and our community is not as big as Galaxy S3 or Nexus but on the other hand the Xperia ion just came out a few months ago so there is a potential there but its not confirmed as most people looking for new phones usually go for the Galaxy S3. Another alternative that I think is good is the HTC One X but that all depends on if you like the looks and such but I think the One X is a good phone as well .
Up coming phones to look out for (if costs doesnt matter)
LG Galaxy Nexus 4 (Nexus 2)
Galaxy Note 2 (big phone)
HTC One X+ (beast mode version of One X)
Lumia 920 (windows 8 phone)
Asus Padfone 2 (ability to mount on tablet)
Theres more but those are the ones I can think of at the top of my head. :good:
Is a good phone if you can't afford the s3 or of you think the s3 is too big

It's a great phone, period. GS3 is the latest and greatest, but the Skyrocket's still solid hardware. I almost think of it as a Galaxy S 2.5

No it isn't a good phone to get now. Everything about it is dated.
Buy something that's up to date so by the time your next upgrade comes, you don't totally hate your decision right now.

I would agree with this. Although it is a good phone, its not one i'd want to get right now and have to have for another 2 years.

To answer your question directly yes it is. However, if you have an option to get something better why not? I have the skyrocket and for the first time I'm in no rush to get an upgrade. In my opinion the roms out for it keeps it up to date with most phones being released right now. My wife have the S3 and I'm not going to lie it is better, but not that much where I feel I have to update. I'm waiting for the next wave of phone releases.

Skyrocket is still a pretty good phone. Luckily when it first came out it was a little ahead of its time spec-wise. LTE, dual 1.5 processor, larger battery than the regular S2. It's still rolling with the punches and if you decide to use custom Roms, the Devs in this Skyrocket forum are SUPERB! I too just upgraded my wife's phone(S2) to the S3. I like my Skyrocket(running custom JB Rom) enough that I let my wife use my upgrade brownie points! If you plan on keeping your phone for a couple years, the S3 is the way to go. Didn't think I would be jealous of my wife's new phone but that thing is freakishly awesome! The size to weight ratio and performance is unbelievable! Feels good and looks even better. The only thing else I'm going to say(since I'm rambling)is if you can hold out a couple more months there will be upwards of 5 new Nexus devices coming out. The LG Optimus "whatever" being one if them. It's hard to beat these just on the support they receive alone.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I tried moving to the S3 (purchased from craigslist) from my skyrocket, but I hated the home button. I decided to resell the S3 and keep my Skyrocket. I'm currently using SkyJB which has the S3 Touchwiz.
I am looking at this phone too, but I would be buying a used one rather than using an upgrade. The GS3 is very nice, but I think it is getting a little too big for me, I think I would rather have the slightly smaller non-pentile screen, and from what I can tell it doesn't seem like the CPU on the GS3 is just hugely better. Both seem very well supported by Cyanogenmod which is very important to me, though the GS3 will probably be supported longer since it is newer (and probably outsold the skyrocket as well).
I was thinking about getting the next Nexus, but removable battery and SD slot are important to me, so I am leaning away from it.
Here are a few pic comparison, not really that great of a comparison but take it for what its worth
Skyrocket, iPhone 4, S3:

Pretty much I have experiences with all these devices and I still think the Skyrocket is a good phone. Like previously mentioned think of it as a Galaxy S2.5
The s3 is great but I can't see much reason to upgrade. The only major benefit is that there is a true jb kernel so you may have better jb roms. I personally would wait for the nexus announcement and make a decision. Even if you don't like the new phone the gnex price should drop.

I actually just got my skyrocket a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I did get it off eBay because I was bored of my captivate and wanted something different, and not being too impressed with the s3 I have saved my upgrade till something comes out that really impresses me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Is phone X better than phone Y? No idea since no two people use smartphones these days in the same way. It depends on which device you are upgrading from. My case it was the Captivate which had terrible GPS. Finally had enough and I am finally happy with the phone overall. One negative mark in my opinion is the development for the Skyrocket is not as busy as the Captivate was / still is. Meaning I only see one custom kernel for the Skyrocket. The Captivate at one time had 2-3.

Hello Glacier Community!

Hello Glacier Community!
So as some of you guys may have figured out, I now am a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Dad went to the T-Mobile store last week and got both him and myself the Pebble Blue one.
It is a freaking awesome device, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I know it's an "old" phone, and many of you would ask me why I didn't choose to upgrade to the Nexus 4 or whatever, but truth is, I don't like that phone. Doesn't seem very great, and LG has never had a good history anyway. Didn't get the Note 2 cause it was 1. Way to expensive and 2. Way to big lol
The speed and smoothness of this phone is amazing, in fact, it's been around 3 or 4 days and I'm still on stock! The only thing I did to it was an OTA Update to JellyBean (which gave an even better performance). Samsung really did a good job this time around.
If any of you guys got anymore questions about the Galaxy S III, don't hesitate to ask me, I'll try my best to answer ya
I want to take a moment and truly thank each and every one of you for what you guys have done in this forum. My first rooted Android phone was the HTC Glacier, my first ROM was built for the HTC Glacier, and my team Team Inferno originally started with another forum member, also on the HTC Glacier. The majority of my ROMs and my Team's ROMs are all for the Glacier. This device means a lot to me, and so does this community. I know we've gone through many ups and downs dealing with a ton of things throughout my two years on this forum (wow...it's been two years already ), but there has always been someone in this forum not giving up hope on me, and always kept pushing me and encouraging me. Out of all the forums I see on XDA, I think that the Glacier forum is the most like a community. I feel comfortable with you guys (as you can tell from my posts in the BS Thread), openly sharing my thoughts and opinions.
Now you guys might think that once I leave this place I won't ever come back and post again. That's just not true. I don't really feel comfortable in the other forums, hardly ever posting in them. The only forum where I feel at home is this one, the HTC Glacier. And that's all thanks to you guys. In fact, now that I have a Galaxy S III, I'm able to do even more testing and developing on my Glacier, since I now don't have to worry about going out without a working phone. So hopefully, if time allows, you will be seeing more ROMs from me and my Team.
I'm sad to be "leaving" this forum and this wonderful device, but I'm excited to be moving on to my next stepping stone, the Galaxy S III. Hope to see most, if not all of you guys there!
Keep doing what you're doing developers, you push out surprise after surprise, as together, we push this device to it's maximum potential and ability.
-Best Regards, Saranhai
And finally, it's disrespectful to leave without a gift right? Hope you guys like this one!

Not to be offensive, but i have to say, i wasn't overly impressed with the GS3, sure it was nice and shiny and fast but was it better than phones like the HOX or DNA or Moto Razr MAXX HD, don't really think so, what are your opinions on the phone saranhai?

not offended
i personally love the Galaxy S III, IMO it is better than the HTC One X (if that's what HOX stands for). i got a couple friends with the One X and i'm not sure if it's just them, but their phones were lagging pretty bad for some reason. don't get me wrong, i love the One X and if it had removable battery+microSD, i'd buy it in a heartbeat, wouldn't even consider the Galaxy S III. but the fact that Samsung still has this feature in their flagship phone makes me want the Galaxy S III more. some might not think it's a big deal, and if it's not to you, then i'd recommend the One X for you. i have not yet played with the DNA yet, so i can't compare it just yet, i'll try playing around with it next time i go to the stores. and please, don't even get me started on Motorola crap (still better than Apple..but still). just my opinion cause you asked for it
the new motorola phones are actually quite beautiful. My friend has the one x and he loves it, its actually pretty amazing but it really is personal preference, i am glad you like your phone!
My girlfriend has the one x, it's nice but I prefer my s3. One X still doesn't have s off and the battery life is nothing to write home about. I also like sense 3x better than sense 4. The hox has not wowed me with eye candy like the mt4g roms has. As much as touchwiz is ugly it sure has useful features. If the moto razr gets as much battery as Moto boast than I would be all over it if they weren't Verizon
On a side note its interesting typing on a qwerty keyboard phone. Bought the kyocera rise for 30 on black Friday. Must say for a such a cheap price it was well worth it. Runs ics and is actually pretty smooth. Virgin Mobile didn't drown it in bloat. Sucks there will never be any development but what ever its just a android mp3 player so not that big of a deal

Why don't you like Verizon?
Its not that I hate Verizon its just there more expensive. I also hear they are the worst I'm regards to updates and that they lock phones with bootloaders that normally wouldn't. That and I have a 2 year contract with a $340 balance left on my phone.

Convince me the s4 is better than the One.

I was convinced I was getting the one but after doing some reading I considered maybe getting the s4. So I started reading these forums and been reading a lot about lag so that kind of turned me off a little because the one is supposed to be super smooth. I have been with HTC since the Hero and really like them, but wouldn't mind a change. I'm not trying to start an HTC v. Samsung war just trying to hear from both sides of the fence. Any and all insight will be greatly appreciated. I'm waiting for my local store to get a demo model, so I haven't had any hands on yet.

battery life
A lot of the reviews suggest to get the One instead. Get whatever is right for you
The laggyness is probably down to that awful touchwiz launcher. I'm sure Nova will be 100% smooth
I have an HTC One S right now. At least for me, the reason I'm going with the Galaxy Series, and in particular the Galaxy S4 over the One is:
A- Removable battery. I just love the convenience of being able to get a full charge within seconds of just popping out my dead battery and putting in a new one.
B- SD card slot. Until internet infrastructure is at a point where you can get consistently high speeds almost everywhere on any carrier, I don't see cloud technology replacing physical storage. It's fast, it's convenient, and it will hold your content, ready for access, even with no connection at all. Of course I'll use Dropbox, but it's more of a long term storage option.
C- Better hardware in the S4 with regard to the processor/RAM.
D- Cool features like Air View/Dual-Recording/Gestures and so on. Whether you consider them gimmicks or not, at least they can be disabled.
E- MOBEAM! I saw this get mentioned on the Endgadget review, and I really want to use it now. It allows your IR blaster on your phone to work with counter top scanners/hand held IR scanners to easily pay for stuff. It also scans coupons/gift cards and saves them.
F- I prefer the Galaxy S4 camera. Seems to be the best when all conditions are considered, although it suffers against the One in low light.
G- I love the saturation and movie watching on AMOLED. It's not for everyone, but it's cool for me. The bigger screen is a plus as well.
Ultimately you should get what feels best for you. I'm moving off HTC and towards the GS4 because it seems better for me. I did also hear of the lag issues in some places, but nothing 3rd party devs/firmware fixes can't handle.
Only reason I needed.

I was having the same dilemma but ended up ordering the GS4 . At the end of the day it does more of the things I care about than the HTC One does.
I think playing with each one before you buy will really help you make up your mind. Things like ergonomics, build quality, screen quality, and software are hard/impossible to experience through a YouTube video.
The One is certainly a well built, attractive device that will probably elicit more "ooos" and aahs" from your friends. I really love the look of the One and the speakers sound fantastic. Sense 5 is very attractive and fluid but has some quirks that would really annoy me on a daily basis.
I chose the GS4 because of the larger screen, microSD card slot, removable battery, slightly stronger vibration (sounds silly but my phone lives on vibrate), as well as some thoughtful software features such as notification toggles and a Wi-Fi based lockscreen.
Those are the things I care about most. Will a small part of me will wonder what the HTC One would have been like, of course! But you need to know what your needs/wants are and see which phone fulfills them best.
Only reason I needed.

Sorry, all the good ones have been taken. But really, if you're needing us to convince you to buy the S4, your heart is probably already set on the HTC One. Unless you've gone and posted a "Convince me the One is better than the s4" thread on the One board. In that case, well played.

better hardware, more stuff, bigger display, sd card.
The only edge the htc one has are those front facing speakers. Not an issue for me.
External sd card. Removable battery
Features you WILL use at some point:
Answer a call by waving your hand in front of the phone.
Airview on some stock apps (I wont be using the default browser but other apps work with airview)
Smartstay to keep the screen on when you are looking at the phone.
Also check out the video quality comparisons the video is great for both but the s4's audio quality is superb. Like 10 times as good.
Also it has a larger screen, and larger battery while also being lighter
If you have to question it after that then get the htc one , its better than apple at least.

That's not our responsibility. Use your resources (the same ones you used to find XDA or anything else on the web), rather than posting a thread that comes off as flame-baiting.
This thread should be put out of its misery.

New update about 288mb sent out that quashed the laggy UI, now S4 is very smooth, i guess first firmware was buggy. Go try it, i hope you get to play with an updated version, if its laggy, go to settings and check software update.
Might be friendlier on the One forums...
Convince yourself to buy an s4. Its not like anybody here actually cares if get one or not anyways...do get one...don't get one. Whatever.
