Hey guys, now that ICS has escaped for us, don't forget to pickup your nexus-esque styled launcher. This only works for ICS roms, no GB allowed. The forum reference link is below. Please note that its better to install from /system/app folder (push it or drop it with root explorer). All you need is in the thread. My appologies if this is better suited to general - but it came from Android Dev thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452663
Enjoy, it works really great and gives that "AOSP" experience.
Nova launcher works just as well

That's how i installed them.

True true. But we're all way too excited about this unexpected ICS release (well, not really unexpected in general just unexpected today), so I say we let this one slide.
With the standard Touchwiz launcher it just doesn't feel like ICS--this launcher helps!
Thanks for the tip on Apex Launcher!
has any body tried to use the Galaxy Nexus stock launcher, or are things too different to work correctly?
Tried both Apex and Nova, not sure which I like more yet, or if I really care for a launcher at all.
But what I really want is something to modify the notification bar, I really want the blue wireless/batter/time indicators.
Any way to accomplish this?

Nova screwed up all my widget sizes.
And wouldn't let me long-press my desktop to add folders, so no Pandora folder allowed. I really liked the drawer animation though.
I can't remember why I didn't like Apex.
I'm back to ADW EX launcher.
Apex is awesome. Looks just like stock with all kinds of extra options. The Tablet-style page transition animation looks slick. Being able to save and restore my desktop helps when flashing new ROMs, too.
I don't like those skinnable launchers like ADW. No offense to the people that work hard on them, but themes almost always look cheesy, and AOSP ICS looks sleek and tasteful.
What do you guys think the best theme from adw ex is, I like the minimalists

Hey guys! I just found this launcher on the play store and I didn't know if you guys knew about it yet but it is basically an exact replica of ICS. It really is amazing.
Here's the link the link for you guys!

Make sure you go into the launcher settings and go to drawer settings and change the transition effect to "card stack" to get the full ICS effect.

Did you activate the "Keep in Memory" option in the settings? That should keep the homescreen from refreshing/reloading after using apps that are memory-intensive. I enabled that setting and haven't had any problems yet.

Nova launcher Prime..:good:
Hello Geeks!
I'm sure a lot of you have Nova Launcher on your N4s, and if you're like me; you can't wait to get your hands on 4.4 KitKat.
Does anybody out there know if TeslaCoil will have to release a newer version of Nova optimized for 4.4 or will it already be compatible as soon as 4.4 gets rolled out to our devices? I'd rather wait for it to be optimized rather than get 4.4 and be Nova-less for a week or 2.
In addition: my friend Tony just ordered the Nexus 5. will Nova Launcher be compatible with his device right out of the box?
Anybody with info please lemme know. I'm fine with putting 4.4 off for a few weeks until I know FOR SURE that I can have Nova Launcher on top of the new tasty OS.
I don't know the answer however, one thing that sucks for Nova Launcher is that the Google Experience launcher is not open source. That means Nova can't keep that stock launcher look on 4.4.

Nova is based on the AOSP launcher so I don't think that will be helpful. There is still a AOSP launcher in the KitKat code but I don't know if they are maintaining it anymore.

Uhhh because the stock launcher is extremely uncustomizable? Nova can be very simple and look almost exactly like a stock launcher, but the amount of options it has are immense. I'm currently using the Google experience launcher and I really miss nova. Sticking with it for now though.

More customization than stock launcher like the static google search in <4.3, # of rows/columns, icon packs, etc.
Nova is based off AOSP Launcher anyways. So you're practically getting the stock launcher + added goodies. Of course this will be different with 4.4 in terms of the Google Now but I'm sure Nova will implement that someway.
Plus you can add gestures. Like if I swipe up on the phone icon I have it set up to direct dial my gf. Or a swipe up on home page opens app drawer. And you can backup your setup so if you flash Roms you can have your home screen set back up in seconds

I think it will be a little more difficult for custom launchers on 4.4 because of the integration of the launcher and Google now.
I don't see how they could integrate Google now into the left swipe or the "ok Google"command working from all home screens. This link shows my reasoning.

Actually that's one of the reasons why I use custom launchers: To get rid of Google Search, Google Now, and "always on" voice commands.
I don't need these anyway and as a bonus get longer battery life (by completely disabling Google Search).

I would happily use the 4.4 launcher if you could remove the persistent search bar, which does nothing but get in the way. Its seems utterly pointless given that you can open search a number of other ways almost instantly.

I only use Nova. So much better than any other home app.

I couldn't agree more. I have tried so many different launchers and nothing compares to Nova Prime. OK google integration is my favorite part. This phone is a beast so you can turn up the animation speed and it won't lag on you.
