Black screen of death - Android 4.4.2 - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hboot 2.15
S-Off
unlocked
I have tried many of the 4.4.2 roms.
I seem to end up getting bsod all the time after a day or so.
Only solution is to hold power button for 10 secs for reboot.
I have notced that when the phone starts up again, there is usually a new app that gets updated. I suspect the problem may be something to do with the play store and auto updates.
Any thoughts or solutions.
Running latest Pacman 28/4 it's smooth and fast.

When u get sod,do u sometimes have to gently slap the back of the device to turn it on?

Have you tried using a custom kernel? I'm running Beanstalk 4.4.249 with Touched 4.0 now with no SOD's at all.

I have tried all mentioned here and in the thread for cm11.
No luck
It either stops when using pull down.
Or
Once it restarts there is an updated app downloading

That's weird. I've never even had this "SOD" on this device.

I recommended that one specially because I'm pretty sure it's the last build before the current bugs came in.

Have been running this all day no issues
Sent from my One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Unfortunately I was wrong. Woke this morning to an unresponsive touch display (stock kernel), flashed Torched kernel and had a random reboot which resulted in some kind of data corruption (had to sign into Hangouts again, Tapatalk had lost its data too). On the next build now in the hope of more stability.

Still running stock 1.04 karbonkat longest for a few weeks with out issue.
Edit just crashed spoke to soon.

I've been having the same issues too. Was using Paranoid Android with and without Torched kernel, and now KarbonKat, yet I continue to get daily black screen crashes to the lockscreen, and sometimes BSOD.

Running 1.09 all day.
Only one slowdown that recovered in 20sec no bsod yet.

I wanted to chime in again about my random reboot/black screen crash issue. I was previously on the 3.18 ATT RUU, and decided to upgrade to the 5.18 ATT RUU. After doing so and reflashing Karbon + Gapps + Torched, everything is running fantastically with no reboots/crashes thus far. Got 3hr+ screen time on Torched noOC/noUV.

I have been running the newest Karbon, with Gapps and bubba, turned minimum speed up to 486, have not had an issue for 24 hours, longest for a while.
On HBoot 2.15

I am on PAC latest KK Nightly with Bubba kernel and don't have a single SOD

Spoke too soon, just had a reset to HTC logo yesterday and crash to lock screen just now. Will try raising min freq.

Latest Google Maps update causing restarts.

Is anyone else experiencing restarts when the new Google Maps (8/16) app is active and in the foreground? It'll run fine for a minute or two but then the device will restart. I've managed to replicate it twice now.
I'm running Android Revolution 6.6.3. Anyone experiencing the issue on other ROMs or other ARHD versions?
Might be cpu overclocking?
Can you please share your kernel and config?
It works fine here btw..

That's not a rom related issue.
The latest update just cause the sensation to crash and restart.
If you go to take a look at google maps' comment page, bunch of sensation user reporting this issue.
The fact that many sensation users report this may or may not be rom related
Many sensation users have custom Roms with custom kernels, custom adreno drivers etc.
I simply pointed that out. If by chance you have an overclocked gpu or say custom opengl drivers that might be just it.
If you do not wish to reveal the configuration of your kernel/gpu that's alright, but it's harder to analyze the problem without such information.

New Maps crashing HTC
Oh hello,
I'm computer illiterate so cannot answer any questions, but I had exactly the same problem. After many returns and resets (GSM module issues) with my HTC Sensation Mk1, I must have forgotten to NOT check the auto update. So while DRIVING launched the app (whos icon had now changed to a g with map behind, onlt to find it:
1. Crashed on scrolling to a Pre-Cached Map tile of switzerland (was curious to see if it had worked still - release from other week was downloading maps VERY slow - like 50kbps!!).
2. On relaunch crashed on Loading Latitude.
3. I think it may have also crashed prior to even drawing a map at all.
Point 2, it restarted all but asking for SIM Pin.
Then worked and seemed good for, yes a few minutes.
As i'm illiterate, I calle HTC who were totally unaware of this probelm.
Then posted on the google maps forum.
Then saw google car drive past, went to post on twitter and as I typed "Google Maps" the phone restarted.
It seemed to happily restart when in background. Maybe in foreground, but I had other things to do.
I reinstalled twice. Did not work.
Rolled back to earlier version and worked fine again:
Android 4.0.3
HTC 3.6
SW number 3.32.161.11
Kernal 3.0.16-ga462f5f BUILD 144£1
MARCH 2012
BUILD 3.32.161.11 CL346220
BROWSER WEBKIT/534.30
Others i asked helpfully told me "well it works for me" but they all have cars under 3 years old.
Hope that may help point in right direction
The shell reboots for me on the leedroid 7.3 Rom too.

Exactly the same situation here with the same setup, and a downgrade to the previous version of maps seems to fix it.
However, my device frequently reboots itself when trying to mount the USB storage to a computer, so it's likely there is some problem with the ROM which is being triggered by the maps update.
I'm having this issue over on the One X as well. I ended up sideloading the previous version of the Maps app from the link below:
http://www.iapktop.com/google-maps-6-9-2.html
Looks like it's a bit widespread...
I am guessing an update/patch is in order. Bottom line, uninstall updates under settings/manage apps. Or revert to an older titanium backup. You all do perform occasional backups of your newer apps right? :cyclops:

What revision of CM 10 are you running? They were having those problems on the initial release but I thought those had all been worked out.

I am using official stable version, I fixed some issues though, I switched back to 384 from 192 on low CPU setting, strangely that fixed notification light, GPS issues, I don't know about the sim card issue though but it might be fine.
Regardless I still can't use rohans kernel, still doing the same thing, I even reflashed the ROM and everything, and it still won't finish booting, if I use voldown and power to restart phone then it won't get past the cyanogenmod logo

Sounds like the kernel image is not flashing for some reason. You could try making a backup of working CM in twrp, flash rohans kernel, then restore the backup on top of it.
S-Off Evita Chameleon OS
Ok so first off, sim card issue is unrelated. If it starts to happen more and more, stick a peice of tape to make the sim fit tighter.
For rohan's kernel, I could only get b5 to work. Flash that, it will work I never tested to find out why, could be related to hboot but not sure.
I could never get notification light to work but others have. I didnt really try nor care.

The sim card is a CM bug not a fitting issue, I never had this issue ever until I got CM, it was like this on nocturnal dirty rom as well.

Actually its a known bug if you search! I just did not know if anyone has fixed it, it would do it like 3 times on nocturnal rom in 1 day, I went back to viper and for 1 month never had the issue, now back on CM yesterday and now sim card bug, its the software, not hardware
What I don't understand is how come people who make unofficial cm versions never fix the original CM bugs that don't get dealt with?
I have never had this issue on cm pa or any other ROM based on cm so it must have something to do with hboot since hardware is near identical.

I'm on 1.09 hboot and after I switched From liquidsmooth Rom to viper, viper wouldn't boot. I actually has to flash kernel separately. And instead of the viper boot screen liquid smooth screen kept popping up. The Rom would boot but crash and reboot once I tried to do anything with the phone.. so maybe try flashing a sense kernel after Rom install regardless of your hboot. Also make sure you wipe everything venomtester said

Is your screen not working at all? Are your volume buttons still active at the welcome screen?

"System reboots on Sense" is almost always "out of date firmware".
You need to flash a firmware.zip for Jellybean ROM's.
There is one floating about in the ViperXL thread that contains a few things you need and avoids things like hboot 2.14 etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868236
"WiFi Partition Updates".
The other way to do it is to get a first round 3.17/3.18 ota and flash the firmware.zip in RUU mode.
I say first round as many carriers are now onto their second 3.17 and they are not complete firmware.zip and lack many of the firmware files.
The first round ones are all complete.

Timmaa Or anyone.. One X questions/problems

@Timmaa. I've seen you all over the place when I search RUU 3.18.
My situation:
Wife's phone
ATT One X
U'Bootloader
S-off
Rooted
Cm11 currently
3.18 radio
Problem is battery is ok. Could be better. Biggest thing is signal. She has 2-3 bars on Hspa* where we live. However calls don't seem to go through and if they do, its hours or even days later. I've tried 3 different APNs And its the same thing. I'm not sure what to do. My wife uses her phone a lot for clients so I'm getting reamed for messing her phone up.
Note: normal for signal to go from like 107 to 75 when a call comes in?
I guess I'm stuck and wanted to know.if.stock would be the way to go or if perhaps you might have a better solution to test out.
Thanks a million.

Have you tried another rom? Just to rule that out? If not try a generic stock rom. If I remember correctly cm uses a different area for the radio install, I'm more of a sense guy personally but if you check the radio thread there are versions specific to cm. run a stock on and Have a few test calls come in and see how it reacts. And don't forget I backup your current setup in case the problems persist you can revert back and start next step to diagnose the issue further.

Aosp ROMs don't look in a different spot for the radio anymore, they haven't since about July or August. The radio is possibly what's causing the issue though depending on which ROM/firmware combination is installed.
