Latest Google Maps update causing restarts. - HTC Sensation

Is anyone else experiencing restarts when the new Google Maps (8/16) app is active and in the foreground? It'll run fine for a minute or two but then the device will restart. I've managed to replicate it twice now.
I'm running Android Revolution 6.6.3. Anyone experiencing the issue on other ROMs or other ARHD versions?

Might be cpu overclocking?
Can you please share your kernel and config?
It works fine here btw..

That's not a rom related issue.
The latest update just cause the sensation to crash and restart.
If you go to take a look at google maps' comment page, bunch of sensation user reporting this issue.

The fact that many sensation users report this may or may not be rom related
Many sensation users have custom Roms with custom kernels, custom adreno drivers etc.
I simply pointed that out. If by chance you have an overclocked gpu or say custom opengl drivers that might be just it.
If you do not wish to reveal the configuration of your kernel/gpu that's alright, but it's harder to analyze the problem without such information.

I'm running CM9 and am experiencing the the restarts, I have stock kernal, stock firmware 3.33, S-on with HTC dev unlock. The app is causing the phone to reboot, boot splash screen just appears 1-2 mins after launching the app. Was using maps last night and didn't have a problem, updated the app this morning and the reboots started happening.

Ditto. Just tried it as well with CMX. All works with the update. Have you deleted data under system apps and try to relaunch it? Or maybe just a simple uninstall/reinstall?

Exactly what happens with me. I'm on stock kernel, no overclocking. Used it plenty days before. The restarts have only begun right after the update this morning. At least it's not just me. Guess we'll have to either downgrade or wait for another update...

New Maps crashing HTC
Oh hello,
I'm computer illiterate so cannot answer any questions, but I had exactly the same problem. After many returns and resets (GSM module issues) with my HTC Sensation Mk1, I must have forgotten to NOT check the auto update. So while DRIVING launched the app (whos icon had now changed to a g with map behind, onlt to find it:
1. Crashed on scrolling to a Pre-Cached Map tile of switzerland (was curious to see if it had worked still - release from other week was downloading maps VERY slow - like 50kbps!!).
2. On relaunch crashed on Loading Latitude.
3. I think it may have also crashed prior to even drawing a map at all.
Point 2, it restarted all but asking for SIM Pin.
Then worked and seemed good for, yes a few minutes.
As i'm illiterate, I calle HTC who were totally unaware of this probelm.
Then posted on the google maps forum.
Then saw google car drive past, went to post on twitter and as I typed "Google Maps" the phone restarted.
It seemed to happily restart when in background. Maybe in foreground, but I had other things to do.
I reinstalled twice. Did not work.
Rolled back to earlier version and worked fine again:
Android 4.0.3
HTC 3.6
SW number 3.32.161.11
Kernal 3.0.16-ga462f5f BUILD 144£1
MARCH 2012
BUILD 3.32.161.11 CL346220
BROWSER WEBKIT/534.30
Others i asked helpfully told me "well it works for me" but they all have cars under 3 years old.
Hope that may help point in right direction

The shell reboots for me on the leedroid 7.3 Rom too.

Exactly the same situation here with the same setup, and a downgrade to the previous version of maps seems to fix it.
However, my device frequently reboots itself when trying to mount the USB storage to a computer, so it's likely there is some problem with the ROM which is being triggered by the maps update.

I'm having this issue over on the One X as well. I ended up sideloading the previous version of the Maps app from the link below:
http://www.iapktop.com/google-maps-6-9-2.html

Looks like it's a bit widespread...
I am guessing an update/patch is in order. Bottom line, uninstall updates under settings/manage apps. Or revert to an older titanium backup. You all do perform occasional backups of your newer apps right? :cyclops:

doing good with me.

Strange new ota regarding mail

Hello people,I just check manualy from my DS for new OTA hopping that I might see the ICS OTA available.
Instead of ICS I see an OTA (downloading as we speak) that is supposed to be about-and I quote- "mail".
Has anybody received this as well?
Any idea what this might be?
I am also receiving the update, unbranded Desire S on O2 network in Germany.
Its been installing for like 10 minutes now allthough it was a small update.Do you have that problem too?

please tell us if you see any changes or improvements.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
Yes, it is still installing, so I do not know what the update is good for. Mine also said it is for "mail".
I just installed it, it's finished now, but I don't see much difference when I look at the (htc) mail app. Maybe just some kind of small bugfix?
Its been over an hour and its still installing!!!!I even xhut down and restart the device and its still after all installing!!!Any ideas how to deal with this?

If you have custom recovery you have to restore from scratch. Sorry, OTA is just for Stock systems
I stopped it through applications management and clear all data for it and now the device says there us no upgrade available to install.Problem solved! ))))

Try downloading it again and save the update file from your sd card onto your comp.
Sent from an HTC device soon to be replaced by Samsung. Suck on that, HTC!!
Got it. Took less than a minute to download and install (unbranded, stock, UK). Doesn't seem to do anything visible.
Same here. Everything went pretty fast over wi-fi. Branded stock ROM.
I fail to see the logic and sense why HTC are still developing fixes etc for OLD GB ROMs. They should dedicate their time towards to bloody ICS update.
Ridiculous how slow they are. No word on the update yet, and already in May...

ViperS Rom

Sense 4.0 keeps crashing, and I can't do anything
I am S-off and hboot 1.27.000
//Ignore quoted text, it was the OP
Hi,
I have just installed the ViperS rom v1.1.0.. well when I say just, I mean about 2 hours ago.
Its still busy booting... at the screen where it says HTC Sense and then animates to HTC Sensation with the snake that moves out, and also has the beatsaudio logo.
is it supposed to take this long?
I used most of the default settings when installing, apart from removing a few apps, ie twiiter, flckr, etc.
Also changed the GPS fix to South Africa, as that is where I'm from.
Thanx

hmm ok, so eventually got the rom working...
however sense 4.0 keeps crashing... so I cant do anything.
Any suggestions?
I was using viper and my device kept freezing. I kept having to pull battery to get it to un freeze. The older version never done that. Perhaps it's the Rom It's self? Many people use viper without issue, but for me it continued to freeze. I did fresh install, wiped, on newest firmware, just can't figure out what's causing it? Last version ran wonderfully! This version had to pull battery around 5 times a day to un freeze .....

I am going to flash the older version now v1.0.1, to see if my problems are sorted.
Do you know if I need to change my kernel or anything for mine to work?
is it just me or is the aroma installer buggy?
No it should work fine with default kernel. It's bricked. Never had a problem with older version. Ran like a dream! Just new updated version brings issues...

the sens4 crash might be a firmware issue. Or it may happen if you did not do a full wipe.
Strange because older version was solid .but the new version I can't use. Too many issues with freezing. Have you tried the new ROM lightning? It's also sense4 and seems fast and smooth and has tweaks and aroma installer.? I'm trying it out now. Seems good and solid.

I have started to experience this problem recently after updating to 2.31 by running the ruu. Never had this problem before this version but not sure if it is the reason.
Basically it happened everyday without my notice. Sometimes I picked up the phone it just showed a notification saying phone had rebooted and there was an error report and asked if I wants to send HTC this report. See the picture pls. Then I went to see the battery status, normally there was a sudden drop of about 20% because of this error reboot.
Wondering if anyone else has this issue and also does op still experience this problem?
Thanks!

[Q] HTC One XL flashed with the newest Viper XL ROM...

So recently, I flashed ViperXL 2.0.0 to go along with the Beastmode 3.0 kernel. Everything has been going well, but I've been encountering some sort of bug...that doesn't really seem to be a bug, but there's something definitely up with my phone.
About once or twice a day, my phone will just get up and reboot itself completely randomly. I'm not sure what, if anything, is actually triggering it. The weird thing is that other than these reboots, my phone runs extremely smoothly - without lag, freezes, or anything of the sort. I'm not sure what the problem is, and I can't really replicate it because it happens so rarely. Anybody else encountering the same sort of issue?
Wrong Forum. Try clean wipe, cache and dalvik cache as well and re-flash the rom.

I was hoping to avoid that actually, because I've set up all my apps, settings, etc. all nicely after migrating from the stock ROM. The problem is that the reboots are sparse enough so that it's not a hindrance, but it happens enough such that it's a lingering annoyance.

wrong forum ... and thats the simplest way to fix the reboot problem im on viper and have not had any troubles
also get a backup app saves time..
backup only the data when doing a backup in recovery wipe and reflash 2.0 and them restore data . if the reboots are still there then i would say its an app causing the reboots

I normally use Titanium. So you're saying to not choose "App+Data Restore", install the apps directly from the market after a flash, and then load the data in?

I use app + data but only for market installed apps, I don't backup system apps or any of the apps installed with the rom. I personally have not had any problems doing it this way. I have not had any reboots or major lags on Viper XL btw.
I was seeing this as well, are u oc to the max 2.1? If so bring it diwn to 1.8, and see if it fixes ur problem. It did for me. One of my hox phones can run 2.1 no issues, but the other one........as soon as i try 2.1 i get all sorts of problems. Try a reflash of the kernel, with 1.8 speed. Post results.

I actually flashed the 1.8Ghz version, and I have been running it at 1.7Ghz only.
However, I have all the voltage-step frequencies set to the default. Global voltage is also set at "0 mV". Does anybody have any suggestions for the Voltage Frequency Steps?
Also, although I have the "Use Separate Voltages" unchecked. I noticed two separate settings for Frequency steps that seems kind of odd.
On one, the frequency says 0MHz, with a corresponding voltage of 852mV.
However, right underneath, the frequency says 0MHz again, but with a voltage of 0 mV. Is that something I should change?

[Q] Cannot Click on Google Search Results if the result is more than one line long

Ok, so this is probably a weird one. I'm using an HTC One X with ViperX 2.1.2 Rom on stock kernel. I started noticing that when I use Google Search (the widget or the app), I'll search for something and when the results come up, I couldn't click on some of the results. I click on the blue text and it just highlights it once then does nothing. It won't launch the browser. So then I was noticing that it was only happening sometimes, so I continued to experiment and found that it only does it when the title of the result extends onto two lines. If the resulting webpage title is only one line long, the link opens the browser perfectly every time. This being one of the most used features on my phone, it gets extremely irritating. I've tried everything I know to try. Please help!
Bump
Can anyone help me?

Thanks for the reply. Tried that and only made more problems. I just found that when I rotate my phone to landscape while viewing the results in.google now, I am able to open any result. (Because the webpage titles don't extend onto two lines). Such a weird issue! It's like when you tap a result, the programming only knows to try to open the immediate next line.
I just tried to duplicate your issue. All works well. I'm on CM10 with full 4.2 gapps. ???? Maybe try a different ROM?

I would, but I love the viper rom so much. It's just this small issue that I can't figure out. I've tried finding a reinstall for google now itself that is compatible with ViperX 2.2.0, but haven't been able to find it. Does anyone know where i can get that?
Thanks
Must have been a super rare problem, no one else has had it like me. I since installed a newer version of viper and it works fine. I think a potential for some of the weirder random problems with these roms might be a virus scanner on your computer (if you downloaded the Rom on your computer). Seems that it might break the Rom in small ways.

Just the version that came with the rom ...can't update I because it's not compatible on the play store. I did some research and since it is an ICS rom it must be some special modded version of the JB or whatever version of Google search. All the projects trying to mod the newer Google search versions to ICS appear dead, so I figured it was hopeless and just used "Google now remover". Now I'm back to the old Google search. Funny though, as this rom is still in somewhat active development and it's specifically designed for my phone but nobody on the development thread has ever mentioned this problem. Oh well, not really a problem for me now.
If you have root you can use Titanium Backup to uninstall system apps, you could do that and then install Google Search from the Play Store which should update it to the latest version.
