Hello people,I just check manualy from my DS for new OTA hopping that I might see the ICS OTA available.
Instead of ICS I see an OTA (downloading as we speak) that is supposed to be about-and I quote- "mail".
Has anybody received this as well?
Any idea what this might be?
I am also receiving the update, unbranded Desire S on O2 network in Germany.
Its been installing for like 10 minutes now allthough it was a small update.Do you have that problem too?

please tell us if you see any changes or improvements.

Yes, it is still installing, so I do not know what the update is good for. Mine also said it is for "mail".
I just installed it, it's finished now, but I don't see much difference when I look at the (htc) mail app. Maybe just some kind of small bugfix?
Its been over an hour and its still installing!!!!I even xhut down and restart the device and its still after all installing!!!Any ideas how to deal with this?

If you have custom recovery you have to restore from scratch. Sorry, OTA is just for Stock systems
I stopped it through applications management and clear all data for it and now the device says there us no upgrade available to install.Problem solved! ))))

Try downloading it again and save the update file from your sd card onto your comp.
Sent from an HTC device soon to be replaced by Samsung. Suck on that, HTC!!
Got it. Took less than a minute to download and install (unbranded, stock, UK). Doesn't seem to do anything visible.
Same here. Everything went pretty fast over wi-fi. Branded stock ROM.
I fail to see the logic and sense why HTC are still developing fixes etc for OLD GB ROMs. They should dedicate their time towards to bloody ICS update.
Ridiculous how slow they are. No word on the update yet, and already in May...

I recently rooted my Inspire. Today there was a WIFI update available and when I went to run the update the screen blacked out with an exlclamation mark. Is this because of the root that the phone will not take the update? Or is that the update process?
Thanks
Is the update from your service provider or from the people that created the ROM? If it's from your provider I would not even try to run the update just wait for an updated version of your rom to come out.
Thanks!
Kind of what I was thinking but being new to the device I thought I would ask.
Thanks again!
This is just to enable better speeds but all the ROMs already enable that.

Actually, its likely the side loading update, which most Roms also have. The speed update was weeks ago...

The OTA update is a combination of a patch pack and some new firmware for the radio and hboot. The first phase is applying the patch pack. For this to work, you need a pretty much stock ROM. If you're rooted, you likely have a few files that will be different and the patch will fail. It also checks the CID and aborts if you're not using stock (ie you used gfree to "open" your SIM, etc.). The firmware will only install after the patching process has completed successfully.
If you are rooted, then your best bet is to just use ATTN1's package that contains all the patched files and firmwares. You can find it here:

So I had to reboot my phone due to weird bugs and glitches. But now, everytime I factory reset it, it still has Enzola's unknown sources feature, yet lacking the button of htc updating. Can someone please help me? It runs Android 2.33 and Htc Sense 2.1
please, anyone? I don't even have the fast boot option.

The unknown sources option was initially removed by AT&T. It belongs there now. The HTC Update feature is removed in Gingerbread. Fastboot has been moved in the settings menu. It is now in the Power subsection.

Open the market and go into the help section. Under troubleshooting, it tells you how to update there. If that doesn't work, I will post the apk file for you, so you can manually update. Just let me know if you get it to update or not.

Morning All
Hope you are all well, I was wondering if somebody could help with my issue?
I have got a rooted HTC Sensation running a stock ROM, when I navigate to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates and click Check Now nothing happens. The checking message comes up and thats all it will do.
Has anyone ever come across anything similar?
Kam
Are you expecting to see an update?
No, but usually it should come back with no update found, I was just wondering if it was broken.
it means that theres no update available as of the moment.
Happens for me too, i think if there was an update, like HTC sense 3,5 (official) XDA would write about it, and you would know
I don't think you can use ota updates when rooted

I was under the same impression, especially if you are using a different kernel ,etc.
Is anyone else experiencing restarts when the new Google Maps (8/16) app is active and in the foreground? It'll run fine for a minute or two but then the device will restart. I've managed to replicate it twice now.
I'm running Android Revolution 6.6.3. Anyone experiencing the issue on other ROMs or other ARHD versions?
Might be cpu overclocking?
Can you please share your kernel and config?
It works fine here btw..
Sent from my HTC Sensation using xda premium
That's not a rom related issue.
The latest update just cause the sensation to crash and restart.
If you go to take a look at google maps' comment page, bunch of sensation user reporting this issue.
The fact that many sensation users report this may or may not be rom related
Many sensation users have custom Roms with custom kernels, custom adreno drivers etc.
I simply pointed that out. If by chance you have an overclocked gpu or say custom opengl drivers that might be just it.
If you do not wish to reveal the configuration of your kernel/gpu that's alright, but it's harder to analyze the problem without such information.

I'm running CM9 and am experiencing the the restarts, I have stock kernal, stock firmware 3.33, S-on with HTC dev unlock. The app is causing the phone to reboot, boot splash screen just appears 1-2 mins after launching the app. Was using maps last night and didn't have a problem, updated the app this morning and the reboots started happening.

Ditto. Just tried it as well with CMX. All works with the update. Have you deleted data under system apps and try to relaunch it? Or maybe just a simple uninstall/reinstall?

Exactly what happens with me. I'm on stock kernel, no overclocking. Used it plenty days before. The restarts have only begun right after the update this morning. At least it's not just me. Guess we'll have to either downgrade or wait for another update...

New Maps crashing HTC
Oh hello,
I'm computer illiterate so cannot answer any questions, but I had exactly the same problem. After many returns and resets (GSM module issues) with my HTC Sensation Mk1, I must have forgotten to NOT check the auto update. So while DRIVING launched the app (whos icon had now changed to a g with map behind, onlt to find it:
1. Crashed on scrolling to a Pre-Cached Map tile of switzerland (was curious to see if it had worked still - release from other week was downloading maps VERY slow - like 50kbps!!).
2. On relaunch crashed on Loading Latitude.
3. I think it may have also crashed prior to even drawing a map at all.
Point 2, it restarted all but asking for SIM Pin.
Then worked and seemed good for, yes a few minutes.
As i'm illiterate, I calle HTC who were totally unaware of this probelm.
Then posted on the google maps forum.
Then saw google car drive past, went to post on twitter and as I typed "Google Maps" the phone restarted.
It seemed to happily restart when in background. Maybe in foreground, but I had other things to do.
I reinstalled twice. Did not work.
Rolled back to earlier version and worked fine again:
Android 4.0.3
HTC 3.6
SW number 3.32.161.11
Kernal 3.0.16-ga462f5f BUILD 144£1
MARCH 2012
BUILD 3.32.161.11 CL346220
BROWSER WEBKIT/534.30
Others i asked helpfully told me "well it works for me" but they all have cars under 3 years old.
Hope that may help point in right direction
The shell reboots for me on the leedroid 7.3 Rom too.

Exactly the same situation here with the same setup, and a downgrade to the previous version of maps seems to fix it.
However, my device frequently reboots itself when trying to mount the USB storage to a computer, so it's likely there is some problem with the ROM which is being triggered by the maps update.
I'm having this issue over on the One X as well. I ended up sideloading the previous version of the Maps app from the link below:
http://www.iapktop.com/google-maps-6-9-2.html
Looks like it's a bit widespread...
I am guessing an update/patch is in order. Bottom line, uninstall updates under settings/manage apps. Or revert to an older titanium backup. You all do perform occasional backups of your newer apps right? :cyclops:

So there's really no simple way to do this. I have the otapkg.zip in my phone but it's only 2.57 kb. Could it be a failed download? I got a message that HTCdm stopped working earlier. Sorry for the noobish question, even after a year on android in not all that familiar.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
It doesn't seem all that difficult to me. As long as you're SuperCID and s-off it should be simple. Did you read the whole thread? There's nothing I can really tell you here that hasn't already been said there. Your simplest option is the RUU.
Sent from my Evita
Yea I read pretty much all of it, I'm completely stock so I'm not sure what amount applies. The only reason I was trying to get around manually downloading it is that my horrible internet connection at home which makes it a full day of downloading.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Either way, you're gonna have to download it somehow. The RUU is the easiest way. If you ever want to modify your phone though it must be done before taking this update because the current exploit has been patched in the update. You'll get a much better experience on a custom ROM but that's entirely up to you.

Could be. Delete it and try to check for the update again.
I tried that and deleting the data on the Google services framework too, got nothing. So I guess this weekend I'll do the ruu.
