My 4 years old son accidentaly dropped my Note 8.0 to kitchen floor and it was totally shattered.... I went right away to store to get new one, points to the insurance company!
In a store I found that Note 8.0 and Tab Pro 8.4 priced equally and I picked 8.4", because the DISPLAY.... It is just beautiful piece of hardware!
Went back to home and tried to download my sons favorite game from Samsung apps, BUT NO! jumping Poli is only available for Note series (tablets and phones) and S4 and S5!
If someone could crap apk I, and especially my son, would be extremely thankful for the person!
Or Should I just return my device and get Note 8.0?

In the last 5 years I've had the Galaxy S, Samsung Captivate, Samsung Infuse 4g, followed by the Galaxy S2, Note 1, Galaxy S4, Note 2 and finally my Note 3 that I've had since release day. There is no doubt that the Note 4 is going to be a bad ass device. However I'm getting burned out with Samsung. Other then the hardware changing and getting better from device to device, it's the same tired setup. I root every device and use Nova Launcher but it's getting tired now. The new LG G3 looks like a bad ass phone on paper. Great specs, great reviews on CNET, maybe its time for something different. I know the note 4 is going to have a 2K screen like the G3 along with the fingerprint scanner and who knows what else. I bought a Galaxy S5 last week out right, and after 3 days of use I took it back because I liked my note 3 better, nothing on the GS5 justified a $660 purchase over my Note 3.
All my Samsung phones have been rooted and flashed with ROM's, radio's and kernels dozens of times, and not a single one of my Samsung phones have ever left me down. Never had one fail, never received one with any dead pixels, they have all been reliable fantastic devices. The fact I use cases makes me care less about metal or plastic devices. I don't go for sexy, I go for hardware, functionality and screen quality/resolution.
I can't decide if I want to give LG a try and buy the G3 in July/August when it's released here in the states or stick with someone I trust and get the note 4 in September/October when it's available. Never had to think about what I wanted in a long time. I always knew I'd get the next note or Galaxy S when available, but now there's some swift competition out there.
There are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
Thanks!
Note 4 or Galaxy S6.. or wait for LG G4?
i change my phone every half year and i need a phone that i will stay 2 years...
i have iphone 5s right now
love phones here as well
currently have note 4 and iPhone 6 plus, one of them will be sold on eBay shortly- most likely iPhone
I believe that s6 this time will be the phone will stay with me longer than others at least till note 5 comes
i have this bad and expensive habit of changing phones regularly but somehow I have a feeling this s6 will be a different story
best screen
future proof processor and RAM
nice design
killer camera
what else do you want?
Go for the S6. Don't need to think about it, it's just the best.
Y'all are looking at the owner of a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 64 GB in the black. After spending about 4 hours with it I've come to really love this phone. I am coming from spending almost 2 years of a great experience with Windows Phones and if it wasn't for "Big Red" being the only carrier that works at my family's cabin I would probably switch to AT&T to stick with a Windows phone. Unfortunately that left me with 2 choices go to an iPhone which was alright for me in the past or go to an android phone which I have had bad experiences with in the past (note 2, Droid razr m, stratosphere ). Well I chose the Note 5 to try to change my experience with android devices and so far I'm glad I did. Even though if it wasn't for me dropping my Lumia Icon 25 feet onto the ground while hanging a treestand the other day I would still be using it instead of this brand new Note 5.

Congrats! A bad experience with a Note 2 though? That was an awesome phone, it's what totally changed my perception of Samsung. It was a one smooth beast up until I got the Note 5.

It was more a bad experience with Verizon than it was the Note 2 and Verizon's refurbished department. I had an Android OS update download corrupted and bricked the phone. It was stock and unrooted. The refurbished phone they sent me then wouldn't connect to any WiFi network at all. The next refurbished phone they sent me would get so hot you couldn't touch it at all. The next one they sent then would not charge due to a bad USB port. Then on top of it every time I had to call them (Verizon ) it would turn into a 3 hour phone call with them repeatedly in the same conversation with the same person referring to me as a member of the opposite sex even after me politely correcting them. So inside of 3 weeks time I went through several phones and repeated abuse from Verizon which tainted my experience with the Note 2. I had a great 3 months with my original Note 2 until the bad update. I so far am extremely happy though with the Note 5

The Note 5 really is a splendid phone. I was really worried as this is my first Samsung phone and a lot of people complain about TouchWiz being slow and bloated. While I can see how it could be considered bloated with the amount of pre-installed apps (a fair amount which are actually useful), I have yet to see the phone perform poorly no matter what I'm doing. The camera is especially quick to load and take pictures, which is usually somewhat sluggish on most phones.
I'm more disappointed that we may never have root access than anything else, but if I had to use a phone without root it would definitely be this phone. It's the only one to really bring unique features versus just a different Android "skin" like most other Android phones. I Particularly enjoy using the S Pen for writing quick notes, and the ability to share the screen between two apps, as well as have floating apps (like the calculator) all at the same time.
I've yet to try any games, so can't comment on the GPU power, but being a flagship phone it must be fairly decent.
While there does seem to be some truth to the multitasking issue (not many apps able to run in the background) I've personally not had any issues yet. I mainly just want to be able to text/browse and listen to music like Pandora at the same time. Hopefully there is a good reason they are not keeping too many apps in the background. Maybe it is to free up space to keep the experience quick (I wouldn't be surprised if it's to allow room for things like the camera to load quickly).
Hardware wise it is a beautiful phone. My only complaint (coming from a HTC One MAX with Dual stereo speakers) is the sound is about average, worse if you're laying in bed with the bottom of the phone resting against your chest/body because it covers up the only media speaker on the phone. Personally I think the speaker would have been better suited on the top of the phone if it had to be located along the side. It feels so nice that when my case came in the mail I took it back off because it felt so horrible compared to the phone being naked. I really hate to put a case on this phone.
New note 5 owner here coming from the LG G3. Loved my G3 but loving this much more in just a few hours. Amazing device I despised samsung due to my wife's S5 but after testing and upgrading to the Note 5 my perception is far different. Glad to be here
I'm loving how many people made the jump from the Note 2 to the Note 5, like myself. It was such a great phone. I still have it sitting on my desk and considering I had unlimited data with it, I do feel a slight tinge of regret. I'm gonna miss being able to load YouTube videos or any web page or song at my heart's content. But that price hike really isn't worth it. I can deal with WiFi hunting. And man this Note 5 is a beast, I didn't think I would ever need another phone again after the Note 2, but this one is significantly better. Web browsing, general multitasking, and the pen especially. Amazing device.
My wife owns a Samsung Note 3. I upgraded it to the astonishing "Phronesis" port of the Note 7's rom. Slick and fast on that quite old phone.
That led me to install a not quite as polished but still nice N7 rom port called Norma onto my Samsung Note 4. Again, pretty amazing and very nice rom. Both of these are rooted and debloated.
Which brings me to my question. Is there anyone out there porting an N7 rom to our P900? I noticed there's actually a project like this for the P905. Why not the 900? Anyone hear of such a project in the offing?
Seems interesting, I wouldnt mind seeing something like that

That would be great
Hey.....the note 3 is "quite old phone"????? Man, no respect for cutting edge in its time. I have always hated how these constant upgrades and model changes create this percieved obsolescence. The note 3 is fantastic. And it is paid for. And after 3+ years, gets through the day like a champ.
My note pro 12.2 (p900) still running 4.4.2 (yes I unrooted and went back to rock solid stock version) is a day long, twenty four seven, three hundred and sixty five day work horse. It is in constant use. So when i read all this mass hysteria about upgrades and new equipment and rom changes, i have to step back and ask...what the hell are you peaple really doing? Kinda reminds me of the car nut constantly changing transmissions and gear ratios. The damn thing hardly ever gets out of the garage, and he hardly is ever satisfied.
Operating systems, for the most part are just the blank canvas, its the apps you use that makes the damn thing usefull. I bought the note pro for the ability to carry 3500+ pdfs, technical manuals, magazines, spreadsheets, wordprocessing documents, pictures, movie content, internet access, mapping information, sound analysers, etc. And it does ALL THAT IN FLYING COLORS.
I have yet to read a post here that actually gives credit to this machine for the excellent job it does. For the cutting edge display and size. For the sheer usefullness of this wonderfull tablet.
Just my two cents.
The problem is that samsung's version of Android is FAR from a blank canvas.. it is like a canvas that has spilled blobs of paint all over it that you cannot get off and also hard to paint over.
But I LOVE my note 3 and notepro 12.2 anywayz!
I've ported phone firmware to p900. Honestly, it's not usable.
Grace UX is great, but phone port has many issues and usability is awful

Interesting you tried it. Thanks for that. Ah, well... At least you ported the S2 tab's rom to us... and I'm running that now.
Hi all,
I'm a new initiate to the (awesome) Galaxy Note line. Jumping ship from iOS to replace the age old iPhone 6 Plus. Never owned one before except a few glorious moments with a Note8 borrowed from my mum. Going all out on Android this time around with the Note10. Just a few questions please:
+ How smooth is the data transfer from iOS to Android? What is carried over and/or left behind? I have years of messages, photos, contacts calendar items and about 30GB of music in the iPhone.
+ I read that Samsung is not particularly good with latest Android updates, so low chance of Android Q appearing at launch unlike Google Pixel 4. How long does it take normally for Samsung to offer upgrade from launch?
+ Any recommended tweaks/settings and Play store downloads I need to make immediately out of the box? I honestly felt dumb playing around the Note8 settings after years in the Apple camp
Much appreciated.

1. Note 10 supports UFS 3.0 storage standard. This storage is faster than iPhone's storage - you can expect absolute speed and smoothness. There is a bunch of apps out there but Samsung has its own utility to transfer all data.
2. So far I experienced, last two lines always gets the newest Androids really quickly. So, up to Note 12, you do not have to be scared of having an old Android.
3. I do not think you need anything to set-up. It works perfectly out of the box. Just ensure you have gmail account and you are good to go. Also, do not forget to try out Dex mode with Linux on Dex - it's a HUGE deal that iPhone really does not have (will not have at least for upcoming 2-3 years).

I stupidly changed from a Note 9 to an iPhone XS+ just because I wanted the Apple watch 4. I have regretted it every day since! The Apple watch 4 is certainly in a league of its own but it cannot compensate for the loss of my beloved Note 9. I am waiting for the Note 10 with great impatience.
You will find the two OS totally different and also the use of the S-pen makes the Note 10 a mini pocket computer, the things I could do with my Note 9 that I cannot do with the Apple is amazing. Its going to be difficult to change again but oh so worth the learning curve again. I hope I have finally learned my lesson with Apple?
The updates will be extremely slow but honestly you won't need them as the phone generally runs smoother out if the box than any pixel ever did for me. If you are looking for Android q, expect to have that update start rolling out around february. If you decide to purchase an unlocked Note, you won't get Q til april-ish. I'll also say the pen to me didn't add any functionality for me, that I needed. I do everything I want using my finger. That's why this time I went S10.

Same exact situation and frankly one of the reasons.
That said I'm simply bored (again) by Apple. I've been known to defect a few key times over the years but I get fed up with a mundane experience with Apple. Not a huge Samsung software fan but you simply can't beat the hardware.

Samsung SmartSwitch will copy a lot of things from your iPhone. You install it on the IPhone and run it on the Note. It's been several years since the last time I've done it so not 100% sure what it does and does not copy currently. It will also suggest equivalent Android apps for the ones it finds on the iPhone.
Make sure you read up on how to get signed out of iMessage or you won't be receiving any SMS messages from people on IOS.
Found this on what gets transfered. The USB method looks to be the most complete.

dummies?? huh?
Thank you all for your input. Once the phone arrives I will report impressions back here
updates for example I'm on July security patch and that was installed about 9 days ago. Really not too bad and doesn't improve your life so wouldn't worry about that.
I went to IOS - big mistake. And tried S7 and Huawei when the Note 7 was recalled. But straight back to Note 8 the day it came out! Had every note. Its the best out there. Those who've only had Oneplus/huawei etc will of course say theirs is the best until they've tried the note series.
