[Q] Can't decide which phone - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Note 4 or Galaxy S6.. or wait for LG G4?
i change my phone every half year and i need a phone that i will stay 2 years...
i have iphone 5s right now

love phones here as well
currently have note 4 and iPhone 6 plus, one of them will be sold on eBay shortly- most likely iPhone
I believe that s6 this time will be the phone will stay with me longer than others at least till note 5 comes
i have this bad and expensive habit of changing phones regularly but somehow I have a feeling this s6 will be a different story
best screen
future proof processor and RAM
nice design
killer camera
what else do you want?

Go for the S6. Don't need to think about it, it's just the best.

Anyone come from the Galaxy Note 3?

Someone has offered me to trade for a Nexus 5 32gb foe my Note 3. I am considering this but want some input from people who made the switch. Do you regret leaving the Note 3? Or no? Also can you still make it a day on the Nexus 5? I charge my phone every night so it just has to last me a day. Thanks.

I came from note 2, there are a few reasons why. Mainly developers, not that there was not good ones for the note 2 because there was I just thought there would be more for the nexus 5. Also its a little smaller and lighter and easier to handle. I never really used the s-pen that much and the nexus 5 screen is large enough. I also can make it a day on one charge but I bought a spare external battery just in case. So I would say if you like to flash a lot of roms get the nexus if not stick with the note 3 its a great phone from what i read.
i came from the note 3. i used to have a gs3 and the original galaxy and i vowed to never use a samsung pos again because of their horrible software development. i for some reason got the note 3 (mostly boredom and i wanted to try the pen) it was okay, but gps didn't work all that great, too much bloat in touchwiz and it got laggy after a couple weeks.
i love my n5 though, can't beat stock android, a more compact form factor and 100% better build quality.
personally, it comes down to how much you value expandable storage and the spen, i like the pen, but didn't use it all THAT much and i don't really miss it.
also, i personally like the lcd in the n5 a lot more than the samoled in the note. plus with all the white they've added to the UI in 4.4, without modification, it's going to kill the note battery much quicker once the update hits.
my n5 lasts through the day with battery to spare so far, so i'm more than happy with it. ask for some cash though since the note3 is valued higher than an n5. (at LEAST $100)
Isn't the Note 3 a $700 phone? Not sure how that would work out in a trade in your favor. Perhaps a sale?
I think the N5 is a great phone but it's main attribute is surely the $400/350 price point.

It's main attribute is it being a aosp supported device, ease to unlock the bootloader, binaries etc actually.

I still have my note 3 alongside my n5. First of all that trade price wise isn't fair. If you trade that note 3 you should get additional cash along with the n5. As far as battery is concerned there is no comparison. I never even had to think twice about the battery on my note. It's just that good and that big even with Samsung's bloat. I could easily get through the day and night with heavy use. This phone not so much. If I had just got rid of my note and replaces it entirely with an n5 I might have regretted it just because it's a drastic change. If you are used to Samsung's heavy hand on your phone then this phone will take some getting used to. But after spending more time with it I'm starting to really appreciate the simplicity. But do you use the s pen on the note? That really sets that device apart.

No way!! Don't do it. The note three is purely high end and worth much more. Keep it. Trust me

I think that if you love your Note III you will be dissapointed by the Nexus 5:
- smaller screen
- speaker not as good as the Note
- no s-pen
- bare vanila android instead of some TW with usefull apps (besides the usual bloatware)
- camera isn`t that good (but almost).
These 2 devices are meant for completely different users ultimately.
Don`t swap this phone with a N5, you should get at least 200-300 usd in cash if you want to trade it. And have the seller transfer the warranty to you through Google.
I came from a S800 Note 3, but prior to the note 3 was my galaxy nexus.
I don't enjoy touchwiz much or the features available on the Note 3 but the camera and battery were definitely superior; by a few miles. The screen was by a little less than a few miles to me. Also the Note 3's size was a bit too big for my liking.
From the experience of the N5 so far, I thoroughly enjoy it much more and it seems snappier to me. I haven't been stuck once.
Battery is NOTICEABLY different - of course.
Expandable storage is also a factor. But the cloud is more than enough for me.
It lasts me a day for my use.
But it will JUST make it.
The note 3 at this point would be at around 30% for me.
Bottom line: I don't regret it. I don't miss the note 3 except for maybe the battery
But maybe you should not trade it? Or trade with cash your way?? :good:
I have a AT&T Note 3 that I got on launch day I also had the Note and note 2 when they came out. I like the note 3 but hate the fact it is completely locked down. I purchased a N5 because I have never had a Nexus before. I have to say after a week of using the N5 I have not missed the Note 3 at all. I make it thru everyday on the battery with the N5 but never even worried about it with the Note 3. Needless to say I still have the note 3 on standby for my wife she wants to get her hands on it but I feel the N5 feels better in my hand and pocket.
Decisions Decisions
i don't have a note 3 but used to own a note 2 and currently have both the n5 and s4. initially i made the switch from note 2 to s4 as the note 2 development was really lacking especially for aosp roms. After switching to s4 I realized i made a bad choice as its still samsung with its TW crap. after receiving the n5 last night and just getting a general feel for it, I can say the n5 feels a lot better in my hand then all the previous samsung devices i've used. It's also lightning fast. also i've never owned a nexus device before.

Just like to say Welcome to the Nexus family! :victory::good:
And to OP, if you're still deciding, try to get a hands-on experience with the N5.
It's been almost a week for me and it has never let me down. So amazingly fast and the whole experience is overall smoother despite the Antutu being almost 10000 less than the Note 3.
Well I'm on Verizon so no Nexus 5 for me unfortunately. So instead I'll be getting the Note 3 instead. I'll put Nova on it to get rid of the touch wiz launcher and change the icons to the stock Google ones. And make good friends with the disable button.
And I've got a 2013 Nexus 7 for when I want stock.

a simple question

i want to know is nex. 5 better than galaxy note 3 or what
for unlocking, rooting, modding, etc? yes
spec-wise? no

I am with you.
I had my first note 3 for two days. Exchanged due to issues. Had the second one two weeks. Not that impressive for the specs. I am a huge samsung fan. I had my old Note 2 for over a year and only changed due to changing providers.
The Note 3 is bloated with so much useless ( Useless to me ) stuff. The Nexus 5 feels smoother and the build quality is s much better. Now with that being said, I would be hard pressed not to trade somebody the Nexus 5 for a T Mo note 2 w/ some cash.
I do love my Nexus 5 though.
I've also had the Note 3 and I did love it minus the big screen. When it came to one handed use it was so uncomfortable to hold for a long period of time because it was so big. Ironically, at the same time I do miss the Note 3's larger screen. The N3 was a feature packed phone filled with gimmicky things such as the IR blaster (TV remote feature), air gestures, etc. If the Note 3 were a Nexus branded device I definitely would of kept it.
I mainly traded because I know its not as future proof and speedy with updates as say a "Nexus 5". Lol. Both are great devices. I don't regret getting rid of my Note 3 for the Nexus 5.
If you're a tech enthusiast then N5 all the way, if you're the average user then definitely get the Note 3

LG G3 vs Note 4

In the last 5 years I've had the Galaxy S, Samsung Captivate, Samsung Infuse 4g, followed by the Galaxy S2, Note 1, Galaxy S4, Note 2 and finally my Note 3 that I've had since release day. There is no doubt that the Note 4 is going to be a bad ass device. However I'm getting burned out with Samsung. Other then the hardware changing and getting better from device to device, it's the same tired setup. I root every device and use Nova Launcher but it's getting tired now. The new LG G3 looks like a bad ass phone on paper. Great specs, great reviews on CNET, maybe its time for something different. I know the note 4 is going to have a 2K screen like the G3 along with the fingerprint scanner and who knows what else. I bought a Galaxy S5 last week out right, and after 3 days of use I took it back because I liked my note 3 better, nothing on the GS5 justified a $660 purchase over my Note 3.
All my Samsung phones have been rooted and flashed with ROM's, radio's and kernels dozens of times, and not a single one of my Samsung phones have ever left me down. Never had one fail, never received one with any dead pixels, they have all been reliable fantastic devices. The fact I use cases makes me care less about metal or plastic devices. I don't go for sexy, I go for hardware, functionality and screen quality/resolution.
I can't decide if I want to give LG a try and buy the G3 in July/August when it's released here in the states or stick with someone I trust and get the note 4 in September/October when it's available. Never had to think about what I wanted in a long time. I always knew I'd get the next note or Galaxy S when available, but now there's some swift competition out there.
There are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
Thanks!

New Note 5 Owner Here

Y'all are looking at the owner of a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 64 GB in the black. After spending about 4 hours with it I've come to really love this phone. I am coming from spending almost 2 years of a great experience with Windows Phones and if it wasn't for "Big Red" being the only carrier that works at my family's cabin I would probably switch to AT&T to stick with a Windows phone. Unfortunately that left me with 2 choices go to an iPhone which was alright for me in the past or go to an android phone which I have had bad experiences with in the past (note 2, Droid razr m, stratosphere ). Well I chose the Note 5 to try to change my experience with android devices and so far I'm glad I did. Even though if it wasn't for me dropping my Lumia Icon 25 feet onto the ground while hanging a treestand the other day I would still be using it instead of this brand new Note 5.

Congrats! A bad experience with a Note 2 though? That was an awesome phone, it's what totally changed my perception of Samsung. It was a one smooth beast up until I got the Note 5.

It was more a bad experience with Verizon than it was the Note 2 and Verizon's refurbished department. I had an Android OS update download corrupted and bricked the phone. It was stock and unrooted. The refurbished phone they sent me then wouldn't connect to any WiFi network at all. The next refurbished phone they sent me would get so hot you couldn't touch it at all. The next one they sent then would not charge due to a bad USB port. Then on top of it every time I had to call them (Verizon ) it would turn into a 3 hour phone call with them repeatedly in the same conversation with the same person referring to me as a member of the opposite sex even after me politely correcting them. So inside of 3 weeks time I went through several phones and repeated abuse from Verizon which tainted my experience with the Note 2. I had a great 3 months with my original Note 2 until the bad update. I so far am extremely happy though with the Note 5

The Note 5 really is a splendid phone. I was really worried as this is my first Samsung phone and a lot of people complain about TouchWiz being slow and bloated. While I can see how it could be considered bloated with the amount of pre-installed apps (a fair amount which are actually useful), I have yet to see the phone perform poorly no matter what I'm doing. The camera is especially quick to load and take pictures, which is usually somewhat sluggish on most phones.
I'm more disappointed that we may never have root access than anything else, but if I had to use a phone without root it would definitely be this phone. It's the only one to really bring unique features versus just a different Android "skin" like most other Android phones. I Particularly enjoy using the S Pen for writing quick notes, and the ability to share the screen between two apps, as well as have floating apps (like the calculator) all at the same time.
I've yet to try any games, so can't comment on the GPU power, but being a flagship phone it must be fairly decent.
While there does seem to be some truth to the multitasking issue (not many apps able to run in the background) I've personally not had any issues yet. I mainly just want to be able to text/browse and listen to music like Pandora at the same time. Hopefully there is a good reason they are not keeping too many apps in the background. Maybe it is to free up space to keep the experience quick (I wouldn't be surprised if it's to allow room for things like the camera to load quickly).
Hardware wise it is a beautiful phone. My only complaint (coming from a HTC One MAX with Dual stereo speakers) is the sound is about average, worse if you're laying in bed with the bottom of the phone resting against your chest/body because it covers up the only media speaker on the phone. Personally I think the speaker would have been better suited on the top of the phone if it had to be located along the side. It feels so nice that when my case came in the mail I took it back off because it felt so horrible compared to the phone being naked. I really hate to put a case on this phone.
New note 5 owner here coming from the LG G3. Loved my G3 but loving this much more in just a few hours. Amazing device I despised samsung due to my wife's S5 but after testing and upgrading to the Note 5 my perception is far different. Glad to be here
I'm loving how many people made the jump from the Note 2 to the Note 5, like myself. It was such a great phone. I still have it sitting on my desk and considering I had unlimited data with it, I do feel a slight tinge of regret. I'm gonna miss being able to load YouTube videos or any web page or song at my heart's content. But that price hike really isn't worth it. I can deal with WiFi hunting. And man this Note 5 is a beast, I didn't think I would ever need another phone again after the Note 2, but this one is significantly better. Web browsing, general multitasking, and the pen especially. Amazing device.

keep my note 5 or my rooted lgg4

so i got my lg g4 back for the 3rd time of selling it and customers have sold it back to me.
its rooted and unlocked but no twrp
in the short couple months ive had my crappy old tore up note 5 with no usb port.... i think im in love.
i love so many features from both phones i cant make up my mind which one i will sell... im not hard up for money i dont have to sell either but xmas time one would make a great gift and a little extra cash in my pocket.
what are your guys thoughts
You can fix the usb port quite easily.
I'd stick with a LG G4 over a Verizon Note 5, speaking as somebody who used both when Samsung refused to repair my note 5 on holiday as it wasn't purchased from the States. Sure the LG G4 runs hot and has poor battery, but Android N helps solve this. The Verizon model of the N5 is worthless in my opinion.
I'd stick with the Note 5 personally. Better processor, better camera, more RAM, better battery life, AMOLED screens look nicer than LCD. I have a Verizon Note 5, and if you don't like the software, you can simply replace the Samsung apps with Google's with a bit of work. Also the theming engine on the Note 5 is pretty great. The G4 software is pretty bland, though options with root are pretty cool. The Note 5 can hang with modern high end, the G4 feels very mid range now.
