Has anyone defected from note 2? I am really eager to pull the trigger myself. Getting tired of flashing roms just want pure google stock experience. I am having a tough time letting go of this insane battery life tho as well as the 5.5 screen. How is the camera compared to note 2? Thanks for info!

I did but I'm kinda regretting activating my nexus right away because I've lost hotspot now. The speaker Note2 seems louder than the N5. I was having second thoughts about going to a smaller screen but I find it easier to read text on N5. At first the N5 seemed small but they did a good job squeezing a 5in screen in.
I did. Only reason I did though is because my Note 2 screen has been acting up every since I had the glass replaced. I also had the spare battery cradle/charger with the note 2, so going from literally never having to charge my phone (only swap batteries every other day) is going to be pretty rough. Overall I was with you though, tired of flashing roms to get latest android. It is smaller, but definitely not terribly small like some other phones out there. Camera differences are negligible, but I only did a side by side in my room with the light on, so take that for what it's worth.
I'll probably be selling the note 2 on ebay/craigslist once I finally get it fixed. Nexus 5 seems like a solid device, already got some goodies coming for it, including a wireless charging pad.
I'm jumping ship. I'm just tired of having insane specs on a phone just to run TouchWiz. I've tried some AOSP ROMs but seems like there's always a small issue or two that keeps from being a great daily driver. I'm currently on CM 10.1 but still run into issues with GPS and camera.
I'm going to Nexus to run pure Android. I don't need s-pens and cameras watching me watching my phone. My only concern switching is related to Sprint, not N5. Sprint has an awesome visual voicemail feature which doesn't seem to be working well with Hangouts on the Note 2. I'll have to see how voicemail is handled on the N5 since Sprint is hands off.
I am jumping from the Note 2 as well. Just time for something new. I would have gone with the Note 3, but the lack of access to Sprint Spark network was a deal breaker. The size reduction will be welcome, though. Even though I like the Note 2 size well enough, it does get in the way at times.

I also find that when I'm going somewhere where I know I will be heavily surfing the net or otherwise needing a large screen, I take my Nexus 7 or Chromebook Pixel. The need for a phablet, while novel at first, has really just become cumbersome to carry around. I also rarely use the S-Pen. The AMOLED screen always annoyed me too -- way over-saturated (great blacks, though). I look forward to OIS on the N5, as a sharp picture on the Note2 is as rare as hen's teeth. The only things I will really miss are the microSD card, removable battery, and OEM flip cover (with built in back cover).
Wow i didnt expect so many replies in such short time. I agree with most of your comments. The battery might not be that big of an issue. I can buy a spare charger and keep it in my office as well as one in the car and i am covered all the way. Not having to wait for samsung to update the software will be a blessing. Besides 4.3 isnt even out and kit kat will be the last update and it might not even come around till early 2015 the way they are going. They have already decided not to port over all of the note 3 features on the 2. All these years i have been flashing and dealing with bugs and annoyances. Time to get something that works out of the box and gets timely updates.

i was debating between a note 3, g2, and the n5. and it's posts like these that make me glad I waited and am getting the n5. my only other android device is the N4, so bloatware, delayed updates, and bugs with custom roms is something that I thought about, but never put too much weight behind them until i see posts like this
I have a gnii and should get my nexus 5 tomorrow. I am hesitant to goto a smaller screen...I love the gigantic glowing blob of a phone. I have the r950 us cellular note 2...so dev. Is limited. I can wait for the plethora of roms and kernels. The s-pen is cool and all...although i havent ran a stock rom for ages. So i dont think I will miss using it to draw dicks on the snapchats all that much.
have high hopes for the nexus, enough to pay my etf and ditch the contract life. USCC sucks so much. That is another huge reason I'm counting on this new nexus.

QFT. I really liked having a phablet when I didn't have a good small form tablet to turn to. Also, I found that actually writing/drawing on the Note 2 was difficult. I now have a Note 8, which is the perfect size for that kind of functionality. Now I can return to a smaller form factor for my phone.
I, too, will miss the HUGE, removable battery. But those are the breaks. I'm hoping that battery performance for me is at least good enough to approximate my Note 2 use. May be picking up a battery pack at some point, too.

I started my Android journey with the S3, then went for HTC M7 as I realised I really didn't like TouchWiz and was running CM on my S3 for most of its lifespan.
I then saw the S5 and thought man I really need a good camera after the M7 disappointment, but I HATED that phone!
People didn't seem to agree but I'm an ultra-nerd and the overall lag in the phone (due to TouchWiz) got under my skin so bad, like I was installing custom apps to replace things like the ridiculously slow Gallery, even found my Camera took too long to open sometimes. Generally through owning the phone I remember noticing so many little stutters of lag and sometimes outright freezing for a second or so. I even thought there was an issue until I compared with three of my friends phones and found them all the same.
On top of that, I really hate the look of TouchWiz (haven't seen Lollipop yet), and have always been an AOSP purist - but didn't want a ROM with any issues and just wanted a rooted factory phone.
Then I bought the Oneplus One and am in LOVE with this device, I really like the bigger screen, I love the speed and OxygenOS Lollipop is wonderful, good battery and again AOSP Lollipop just looks amazing to me.
Unfortunately, the only thing that I can't stand is the camera - it's good, but not great.
The S6 is now released and akin to what happened last year I've got an itch to spring for it given the quality camera, and hearing that all TouchWiz lag has now disappeared from the phone.
I know it's not been out long and don't know if anyone has even really had a chance to play but I was wondering if anyone who hates TouchWiz has decided to use the phone and if so why, and if they have used it whether they are happy with the purchase or not!
Also I'm half tempted to wait for the Note 5 because I enjoy the bigger screen size - but I've got a few holidays coming up and really want a decent camera to take with me!

I too was in the same boat - I love phablets and the note series was ideal for me but I held off both the Note 3 and Note 4 because the software and UI made me vomit when I tried it. I was anxious for the same reason when trying out the galaxy s6 but I'm happy to say that it's perfectly good so far.
Sure, it's still got some colorful quirks and the ringtones are still the same old cheesy tunes, but it's fast, looks clean and is functional with minimum bloat. It's actually a pleasure to use. It's a great start for Samsung and it'll only get better down the line.
Stock android remains my favorite but if I were to give it a 100, I'd give the S6 UI an 80 and the older ones a 0. Just compare the S6 and Note 4 side-by-side and you'll instantly notice the difference.
Damn that's a pretty good endorsement! I'll go check if any of my local stores have a working model, and I'll be sure to do the side by side!

History:
I am not a fanboy of any OS/Brand. I have used most Symbian Smartphones, never use to like iPhone because they could not do multitasking back then. Nokia passed away i jumped to Android, used as many as 20 android phones if not more, few older HTC, Galaxy S line, recently note 3 and galaxy s5.
Always thought Android is more capable OS and iOS is dumb OS until when i used iPhone 5 for the first time. Being Android user i didn't like limitations of iOS but after that simplicity, no lags, good UI, greatest keyboard made me confused. So i liked iOS a lot, but only problem was 4" screen, due to which i swapped phones number of times between galaxy and iPhone 5s few times.
Then iPhone 6 came with 4.7" and there was no looking back.
Now?
Galaxy s6 looks good and i am confused if i should try a change again, i need help from current users on following aspects.
Built quality of both phones are same, both are slim, i have to put soft silicon cover on it, so hardware does not matter to me.
Kindly tell me:
1- Does extra real estate of GS 6 matters in real world use? (iPhone is smaller bolder fonts, i feel it may carry more text in a given screen though)
2- Does extra pixel density have any advantage over iPhone already very very good screen. ( One battery disadvantage i know)
3- Exynos and 3GB ram is fine, but is Android/Touchwiz comparable to smoothness of iPhone 6 (Kindly only those who used iPhone tell me this)
4- When i was using galaxy s5, i was trying to imitate iPhones messaging App, Keyboard and other things on Galaxy, just looked neater to me and it use to have more text in it. Android apps use to look little messy to me, can be personal choice, but tell me if such common apps are less of a mess now?
5- Even i use to hate WhatsApp for android, i had to use Mods, thankfully they sort of changed it.
I know my post can be little bit crazy, but any input can be useful.

For me at least YOU MUST change the iphone 6 with a s6
You feel the screen of the s6 way WAY way better than iphone
Due to new touchwiz and 3gb ram, the firmware does not have any lag at least for me. S6 doesn't know the word LAG
The whole firmware is way better more CONCENTRATED
I don't use Whatsapp so I can't tell you anything about it.

If you have changed phones as often as you say you have, I don't think it matters what phone you get as you will just jump to another phone soon anyways.
I would stick with an iphone. If you have a crazy love of iphone messaging apps and god forbid the awful Apple keyboard which is the worst and least intuitive i've ever used, you'll never get used to Android.

3. I have nova launcher and it actually fast, i dont know in comparison to iphone 6.

Well, you can see i have problem with changing phones often, i may not be the only one here, who likes phones and want to keep a good one, every one has different needs though, even though i really want to have a phone to use it for at least two years if not more, may be this iPhone 6 can last long, when i had iPhone 5/5s, it was too small, Note 3, it was too big, galaxy s5, how should i glorify that, Nexus 5 was best Android phone ever, while using that i never missed iPhone, it was smooth and i was happy, then it started dropping signals, i was forced to quit, anyways we are talking something else here.
I don't have crazy love for iPhone messaging App, though i prefer it over any Android messaging App, even though it has flaws like i can't change bubble color. For keyboard, i know there are two kind of people, one who like iOS keyboard, one who hate it, its personal preference i guess too, wish i could take that keyboard to Android, like i use it without even word prediction feature, for me it auto corrects very well. i Should stick, may be.

Material design is good, but touchwiz dont have stock material design that's my biggest hurdle, and hurdle of many. Skin seems to be not much different in real world. WhatsApp is better now after material design update, before that it was like software of 1990.
Stay with apple.

I don't know why people complain about having touchwiz skin.. Without it there would be no fingerprint scanner software, dual window, gestures and etc. As for your question you might want to stick to iOS, if you are perfectly fine with how it operates. I'm a fan of both Android and iOS, and used both for many years. A part of me regrets not getting the iPhone because I know any software issues would get patched within weeks not months. Accessory support, and software support, you'll be getting software updates till your phone can't handle it, and finally battery life of standby which is still unrivaled IMO. But I part of me would've also regretted getting an iPhone since that phone has so many limitations like as simple as sharing files, its limited. Files you've downloaded would be tied to that app. Can't even delete pictures on the go when it came from your PC/Mac. Also the lack of features you get compared with Android. All in all in the end it comes down to user preferences.

Hey there how are you? Well touchwiz? It's cartoonish. Colours hurt eyes. It has big uneven style icons. Non symmetrical objects. Different apps are different. Even messaging app has such huge bubbles like doremo cartoons. You can say we can change them. But how much change. How much refinement. Refining rooting modifying everything our self? Then what Samsung and company is doing? Finger prints? Samsung can implement them without touchwiz by small driver app. Dual window can also be implemented without touchwiz even though I yet to use it once on my last Galaxy phones.
You talk about file sharing? In my daily life I don't find occasions when I have to share file. So just for file sharing. I can't give up other ease and smoothness.
So just file sharing can't convince me to switch over. Kindly tell if touchwiz is as smooth and lag free as iOS. Then sharing a file or song easily must be good too.
About lack of features? There must be few features which iOS may have over android. Like that of unified settings, back ground data activity can be controlled and few others too.
So if Galaxy this time around is smooth enough. I must give a try too. Not because of file sharing snd some

Android OS still got lots more function and mods but the problem is that mostly likely you will need root to enjoy it so no more warranty. One of the app I love is tasker but many features need root to enable. The camera on S6 is far better than Iphone6 though IP6 is already very great.
iOS the OS isn't great but the app store is, they still owned the most high quality apps there.
So it really depends either you need a OS more, or you need more apps. The best is to get both Android and iOS if you have money. Personally, I'm only a light user so I don't need many apps but I need tasker and camera more so Android is the only choice to me.
There's your answer. You obviously like iOS more so just stay. No one is convincing you to switch. We simply gave our opinions on why we chose a certain phone. I came from an iphone before this, I was Android before the iphone. Every 1 to 2 years I switch between Android and iOS.You say Samsung could implement an app or drivers for features, but look at it this way, every corner of the galaxy s6 has its own features, from notification bar to your dialer app. Might as well make it a skin and hide it within the system otherwise you'll be seeing more than 100 apps trying to run these features.
Unified System Settings( all in one place) vs Unified Storage( any app has access and able to use whatever you downloaded or put to you memory) I chose the latter, I mean how often do I find myself in system settings daily? The theme engine does change a lot of the look unfortunately not much themes at the moment... If you want to actually see some of the features the galaxy s6 offers here's a video...since you already know what iOS has. BTW, I'm not trying to make you switch its really up to if you care for what Android offers. I'll be back in iOS for the iPhone 7.

wow....Well I guess this really is a matter of opinion cause I think the IOS keyboard is unbeatable, so accurate.

I love both android and IOS and used both a LOT, he summed it up very well.
Well. You must be right about camera. But you may have noticed. I never mentioned camera in my post. as I don't use camera much. iOS well I can't say if it's great if not. But my main concern was even apps like espn cric info and Twitter and even Facebook are far more smooth on iOS than on android. That's what I feel. You people can feel otherwise.
Plus I want to know about features which iPhone lacks and which matters. Features like dual windows is not useful for me. File sharing is one useful feature but since I don't find much occasions so I can live without it. But it is useful feature nevertheless. What are features are like this?

Did I make the right decision? For me it's a yes.
Really depends on your use case. The iPhone is a great phone. It just works without any hiccup. The S6 feels like a pocket computer, it does everything the iPhone does and more but it's less elegant and sometimes doesn't do it as well.
One of the reason I switched to the S6 is that I can't stand having to encode videos before I put them on the phone. I watch lots of videos so on android I just drag and drop, takes less than 5 minutes. However, on the iPhone it takes several hours to encode and I still have to use iTunes to transfer.
Also the camera. It's better than the one on the iPhone.
So...
1. If real estate is all you care about, yes. But I care about one handed usability as well and the smaller iPhone screen is the one I prefer.
2. Yes. The S6 screen is sharper. Not significantly sharper, but noticeably sharper. Colour accuracy is much better on the iPhone tho, not a fan of the S6's saturated display. The Amoled screen is much better at power saving compared to LCD since black pixels switch off. I use acdisplay on my S6 which is like a Moto Display rip off, this would suck lots of juice on an LCD but not amoled. Also, since the black pixels are literally off, contrast is simply stunning. Especially in the dark.
3. Short answer, almost. For my case I would say it is just as fast as my iPhone. But, if you're a lazy user and don't bother to remove the crap in your phone, the iPhone will be a smoother device in the long run. If you take care of your device I would say an android phone ages better. (My G2 is a testament to that)
5. Whatsapp for android received an overhaul and the ui imo is much better.

Controversial as it maybe but if you like ios and apple hardware I'd not switch to the s6 - yes the screen is great, the build is nice and the camera is excellent. But nothing is worth switching platform for in my opinion.
I came from a nexus device and miss that too, I like my s6 I don't love it - and that's purely down to the software experience.

You are not making me switch, we are talking here to share our point of view only, thanks for the video, i will see it, we all know every phone and OS has give and take, its only what you want to give up and what you want to take, and hopefully soon we can have best of both worlds. Themes are essential in Android and i don't being open and costamizable OS why themes were only for root and mod people, So now S6 have it, its good. You may agree with me Android demands lots of mods and stuff, and the first reason i switched to iPhone and refuse to even try jailbreak because i was feeling little tired of it. At the end it comes down to what a person feel better with.
Y'all are looking at the owner of a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 64 GB in the black. After spending about 4 hours with it I've come to really love this phone. I am coming from spending almost 2 years of a great experience with Windows Phones and if it wasn't for "Big Red" being the only carrier that works at my family's cabin I would probably switch to AT&T to stick with a Windows phone. Unfortunately that left me with 2 choices go to an iPhone which was alright for me in the past or go to an android phone which I have had bad experiences with in the past (note 2, Droid razr m, stratosphere ). Well I chose the Note 5 to try to change my experience with android devices and so far I'm glad I did. Even though if it wasn't for me dropping my Lumia Icon 25 feet onto the ground while hanging a treestand the other day I would still be using it instead of this brand new Note 5.

Even though if it wasn't for me dropping my Lumia Icon 25 feet onto the ground while hanging a treestand the other day I would still be using it instead of this brand new Note 5.

Congrats! A bad experience with a Note 2 though? That was an awesome phone, it's what totally changed my perception of Samsung. It was a one smooth beast up until I got the Note 5.

It was more a bad experience with Verizon than it was the Note 2 and Verizon's refurbished department. I had an Android OS update download corrupted and bricked the phone. It was stock and unrooted. The refurbished phone they sent me then wouldn't connect to any WiFi network at all. The next refurbished phone they sent me would get so hot you couldn't touch it at all. The next one they sent then would not charge due to a bad USB port. Then on top of it every time I had to call them (Verizon ) it would turn into a 3 hour phone call with them repeatedly in the same conversation with the same person referring to me as a member of the opposite sex even after me politely correcting them. So inside of 3 weeks time I went through several phones and repeated abuse from Verizon which tainted my experience with the Note 2. I had a great 3 months with my original Note 2 until the bad update. I so far am extremely happy though with the Note 5

The Note 5 really is a splendid phone. I was really worried as this is my first Samsung phone and a lot of people complain about TouchWiz being slow and bloated. While I can see how it could be considered bloated with the amount of pre-installed apps (a fair amount which are actually useful), I have yet to see the phone perform poorly no matter what I'm doing. The camera is especially quick to load and take pictures, which is usually somewhat sluggish on most phones.
I'm more disappointed that we may never have root access than anything else, but if I had to use a phone without root it would definitely be this phone. It's the only one to really bring unique features versus just a different Android "skin" like most other Android phones. I Particularly enjoy using the S Pen for writing quick notes, and the ability to share the screen between two apps, as well as have floating apps (like the calculator) all at the same time.
I've yet to try any games, so can't comment on the GPU power, but being a flagship phone it must be fairly decent.
While there does seem to be some truth to the multitasking issue (not many apps able to run in the background) I've personally not had any issues yet. I mainly just want to be able to text/browse and listen to music like Pandora at the same time. Hopefully there is a good reason they are not keeping too many apps in the background. Maybe it is to free up space to keep the experience quick (I wouldn't be surprised if it's to allow room for things like the camera to load quickly).
Hardware wise it is a beautiful phone. My only complaint (coming from a HTC One MAX with Dual stereo speakers) is the sound is about average, worse if you're laying in bed with the bottom of the phone resting against your chest/body because it covers up the only media speaker on the phone. Personally I think the speaker would have been better suited on the top of the phone if it had to be located along the side. It feels so nice that when my case came in the mail I took it back off because it felt so horrible compared to the phone being naked. I really hate to put a case on this phone.
New note 5 owner here coming from the LG G3. Loved my G3 but loving this much more in just a few hours. Amazing device I despised samsung due to my wife's S5 but after testing and upgrading to the Note 5 my perception is far different. Glad to be here
I'm loving how many people made the jump from the Note 2 to the Note 5, like myself. It was such a great phone. I still have it sitting on my desk and considering I had unlimited data with it, I do feel a slight tinge of regret. I'm gonna miss being able to load YouTube videos or any web page or song at my heart's content. But that price hike really isn't worth it. I can deal with WiFi hunting. And man this Note 5 is a beast, I didn't think I would ever need another phone again after the Note 2, but this one is significantly better. Web browsing, general multitasking, and the pen especially. Amazing device.
I'm not sure if I'd like to continue using Samsung, now that the snapdragon versions can't be bootloader unlocked anymore.
I find it extremely frustrating not being able to downgrade my OS from bad updates.
I'm also very frustrated not to be able to do full nandroid backups (including EFS).
Not having any custom roms is also very disappointing.
If exynos didn't have such bad idle battery life, I'd use exynos.
At this point, I think the only thing I'm attracted to on the samsung devices is the color from their amoled.
Good or bad, I'd like to hear you snapdragon users give your opinion on how happy you are with the current samsung snapdragon devices, what would be your ideal alternative device to samsung? And why?
Also, let me know if you're a generic user or hardcore enthusiast.
I've had a Note since the Note 4...which was an absolutely amazing device in my opinion. Most of the stuff I own are Samsung products...except for my laptop. They have quality products...but every year I find it harder to justify the price tag...considering all the competition there is now...amazing devices for much less. I currently have the Note 10 now but I don't really think I'll upgrade to the next one next year. Especially with how far OnePlus devices have come among other devices. Maybe the next Pixel will be worth the upgrade. I used to root, custom roms and all that as well. But, for me it's mostly the price tag that's turning me away from Samsung.
Back in the day of ****ty OEM skins, I was a crack flasher and used TWRP & TiBU almost daily. But Samsung One UI has come a long way since Touchwiz. I actually enjoy using the stock ROM and don't feel the need to immediately wipe it with something else. It already offers 95% of what I'd fix with a custom ROM. I honestly don't miss wiping it and starting all over with each new version of a custom ROM. All of my important files are stored in the cloud or email, and I don't use any apks that are unavailable outside of the Play Store, apk mirror or other web sites, so no need to backup those. I use Adguard which does a great job, so no need to root just for adblocking. I use CCSWE App Manager to disable bloatware that I will never use. My Note 10 battery lasts all day every day, so no need to flash tweaks/mods to eek out more juice. Overall, I really have no need to root anymore. But if I absolutely *had* to root my phone today, I'd probably go with something from OnePlus. I had a P2XL which was a great phone for its time, but the new Pixels are just meh imo. Their camera system is the only thing that sets them apart. The rest of the phone is underwhelming and overpriced for what you get.
Yeah Samsung screens are amazing, and so is there hardware. Example i was trying to WI-FI Direct Joker to my mates Huawei P20 or something can't really remember exact model around 7/8 mins in it was around 40% ish percent i had a phone call i had to run, so i came back 20 mins later used WI-FI direct again we must have got up to 60% this was well over ten mins he had to shoot see what I’m trying to say yeah Huawei, Apple and all the other manufactures are good,
But you can’t beat Samsung hardware. i WI-FI directed the joker it's 2.4 gig file size from my Tab S SM-T705 LTE which is 5 years old to my Note 9 in under 3 mins also my Tab S 8.4 picks up most Wi-Fi hotspots i work in a car park i have tried few year old iPhone and Huawei witch is last year’s model its co-workers phone they pick up eff all i would have to go out of the car park to pick up the hotspots while my Samsung Tab S from 2014 picks up all the free Wi-Fi networks Apple Huawei use trash hardware Samsung hardware Rocks!
People think yeah I’m paying half of what Samsung is charging but when it comes to little things that actually matter in real world usage that's where Samsung is leaps ahead of the competition.
Samsung Snapdragon bootloaders have been locked for years. I used the Note 8 as my primary device for 2 years, and have been using the Note 10+ since release date. The battery life just keeps getting better. I haven't had a reason to root since the Note 4. Android updates don't seem to change much in recent years, they mainly just make the overall system smoother. I've never felt like a previous version was better than the recent update. Overall, I'd rather give Samsung my money to keep making quality products with premium hardware. I also use Dex daily with my Surface Pro.
