Hi all !
I'm french and just speak a little english speaking. I'll try to do my better to be comprehensiv.
So,
My tytn II have had the problem with the radio 1.65.17.10 that i couldn't changed. I've had to take the manip with "FrankenKaiser" on the top of subjetcs...
I did all steps and arrived at a new system configured (rom radio and normal rom).
But the problem is, that my signal radio seems to be wery low. I have juste one or two (or zero) levels of the goperator's signal. I live in the center of Orléans, a big city a juste beside of the kaiser, my previous Tytn 1 works perfectly, with all fives levels of signal operator.
I tryed differents normal roms and differents radio roms and it'x the same problem. Le signal of the GPS seems to be low too.
I am actually with on the radio rom 1.64.08.21 and on the v6 thuffir rom.
Could you help me please.
Julien
Did you recently try an external antenna?
no, in fact, i suppose my radio devices too much sensibles, but the gps look work average well.
I used just the year past the gps, it was usable, but my operator signal is too sensible and change too much the valability of the signal. It loose the signal manytimes but find it after very speed...
Curious.
It 'll test manythings and repost my backtest in the evening...
thanks.
Sorry to say, but that radio you have currently tends to be one of the best ones for your region I believe. When the GPS is set to 19200 or 38400 baud you can get a GPS lock in seconds.
yes, i have read some topics goes agree with you...The gps seems to be correct, but for the gprs, phone etc, its too sensible, when i am between walls, i loose the signal very speedly. So before with every other phone it was no loosed. For example just during the past hour i went in a tunnel by car and i never loosed the signal before... strange isn't it ?

yes it is, but did the same to me. the radio seems as if you need a constant internet connections to hold a signal best otherwise it looses it faster. thats why i dont have it anymore.
ok. So which advices can you gives to me?
I'm not sure tu understand, (bad english speaking...^^) , are you saying that that this rom is for a specific use?
For calling do you know an issue concerning me?
The roms you entered is you "info" (that you are comparing) are good roms?
I prefer the 1.65.20.29 of the two and yes I would DEFINATELY recommend
Ok, thanks gye .
I 'll test tomorrow
good night
I am tired of low network signals in my home @ basement with Sensation ...
My wife with x10 mini gets enough signals on her mobile to send/receive calls without voice interruption and I can't even dial from it...
My friends tell me that my mobile mostly remains off but i know it's due to low reception...
How can such a small x10 mini perform better that Sensation?
Last option for me is to boost reception by Aluminum foils... Anyone tried such a Hardware Mod?

Alas, I can't say I've tried this but now that you've mentioned this option I'm tempted to experiment with it.
What i do have a lot of experience with is flashing and testing different (software) radios. You should read up on the topic of "radio" and "RIL" since you've assessed that location is not the problem.
Then again you might have reasons for not wanting to flash ...
If you really want to enhance your reception with hardware, this guy makes sense http://www.metacafe.com/watch/750707/how_to_make_a_cell_phone_antenna_under_5_minutes/.
best regards,
Lol... The initial part of video is exactly what i do when i get calls....... But that's really not the mod i would want... I want some extra foil inside casing that should not look bad from outside...
I once connected aluminum foil with the terminals with back cover off and its signals went from 3 bars to full 5 bars... But when i placed aluminum foil inside and packed back cover on it, signals dropped again...
I have tried ALL radios and RILs in the thread... With 10.56 i used to get 2-3 bars but with those i couldn't even send or receive a message... When it's 4 bars, it was working
With latest radio 10.58 and ics radio 11.59, It simply puts 'no network' when signals are low enough that are not ready to make calls...
So flashing radios is just playing with bar indicators. No gain ...
hardware antenna booster.

I understand.
It's weird that the mini performs so much better at the exact same location. Have you excluded the possibility that you have faulty hardware?
Amazon sells an antenna booster for HTC that basically enhances the antenna in the way you describe. Just search for "htc antenna booster". Even though they only cost a dollar or two, it might be more fun to copy their design and make them yourself.
I look forward to your findings.
Good luck!
Yeeeeeeesssss....
I made it... Today i tried myself to get a network boost and it worked!!
I called my friend today from basement and walked every corner of the Room to test the mod and he said my voice was crystal clear without interruption...
Then i asked him to call me and i placed my mobile in a place where i used to get absolutely no signals and he told me my number got through to him on first attempt....
it never worked in my room and now its working everywhere in the Room...
I am sooooo happy...
The only problem is, when i grip the phone then its the same situation as previously ... For that i have to ensure i hold my phone on thumb and index finger and keeping the palm away from the back...
But this much is also enough for now... In basement i won't hold it tight...
I seem to remember seeing this mod being done, but that it had a negative effect on battery life. Please report back after a couple of days use, I'd like to hear how you get on.

I didn't use signal booster, just used aluminum foil to increase reception strength...
I don't think it drains battery but even if it does, it's better than no signals..

Can you explain it?
Thank you!
Apologies, I was referring to the foil and not some other signal booster. There are videos on YouTube showing the foil fix btw.

Maybe I'm wrong but did You try to change network mode setting in Mobile network section to GSM only.
It works for me in places with poor reception.
It will give you crappy internet, but you can switch it back to GSM/WCDMA Auto when you leave the house.
With GSM only you should get signal anywhere in the house or basement or any other place where any other phone can have any signal.

don't consider me so low.... It's the first thing i do after flashing ROM i.e setting it to GSM only, there is no WCDMA network in my country...it's all GSM...
Congrats.
I'm happy you've found a solution.
Haha looking forward to your vid to see where you placed the fool. I tried foil once, but didn't notice much difference. I read somewhere that aluminum isn't the best conductor, so I was going to try gold foil instead. Just never got around to it.
anyone ever figure out how he did it? lol
anyone?
signal fix
That's what I just did, from no signal at all-0 to 2-3 bars and I bet it can be done better and get more.
Can you tell me what is the result with and without your antenna in "asu" or "db". An example how much did it improve your metal foil. And anyway why did you choose one side longer than the other?

You bet it can you have made a half wave dipole the length of each element is critical depending on frequency used there are simple formulas to work out the exact length of the antenna
Still great work around if it actually works one problem is the case acting as a shield to your two tinfoil elements
Worked well for me.

Hey guys.
I have noticed large variations in the signal that I have. E.g., somewhere that I normally have 2 bars, from time to time it may display 5 bars or no bars at all, but I can still make a call.
The real problem occurs after long period on standby, after which it seems not to recognize my sim. It has happened 3 times in a 4 day period. The problem is solved if I restart the device or disable-enable the plane mode, but this is not a real solution, since meanwhile I've missed a few calls...
I have no weird apps installed, and I am experiencing the signal variation since day 1, without any apps installed.
Any ideas? Contact the retailer maybe? I bought it from expansys on April 11th, what is their DOA period?
Contact HTC maybe? Or get a new sim?
Your help is highly appreciated!
I suffer signal variations too, I can go from 5 bard to 2 bars and back all in the same location.. Ive never had 0 bars, or had a call drop. But its something that bothers me
What you should do is
Check with your provider for any faults in your area
Request a new sim
Contact your retailer
contact HTC
All in that order.
I also have this problem. I have tried a new simcard but still problem. I hope HTC will solve this, because it seems to be a software problem.

Thanks for the quick answer.
I do not mind the signal variation, since I can make calls even with 0 bars (!), of course I don't know if this affects the battery life...
My real problem is, not recognizing the sim... I also forgot to mention that the very first time I inserted my sim into the phone, it didn't recognized it either.
I 'll get a new sim from my provider, hoping it's not the phone's fault.
In the meantime, I 'll let the retailer know about the situation and ask about the DOA period, in case that doesn't work.

You mean, just the signal variation, or the sim not recognized after standby?
you should rly try to get new sim card, could be sim problem.
For signal variation, it probably drains battery life. If signal is weak, or it drops from 1 bar to 0, then back to 1 (had this situation at my work) - battery gets drained RLY fast.
But that was in case when I rly didnt have or had rly weak signal. Dont know with this, but I guess if phone trys to "recover" signal, it will consume much more battery

The SIM problem is a separate issue, which you should hopefully get fixed.
Now regarding the signal strength bars. I have used a lot of expensive RF test equipment. Most of it more expensive than your car. Or house.
None of them measured signal level in "bars", usually it was dBm (mW in 50Ohm). Unless you know what those bars correspond to in real power levels, then it's rather hard to say if the variation of a few bars is something to worry about.
Digital comms systems tend to go from "working great" to "no signal" within the span of 6dB. And that's a very small range when one looks at the variation of signal level in a typical urban environment, even if the phone is static (position-wise).
It's been some days now and I don't have any more sim issues, so all good.
Maybe it had sth to do with where the sim was touching the phone... (I tried cleaning the sim and reinserting it a couple of times)
But the signal variations continue... I reached HTC and they said to try GSM only mode, and also safe mode, but same behavior there. - now rechecking and unsure about results, gosh it seems complete random.
aza314, I understand what you 're saying, but what about this... the signal variations are so annoying, that rarely I might unlock my phone to get a temp "no service - emergency calls only" message (normally I have signal again in 1 minute or so), in the same spot I was making calls normally some minutes ago (or later).
Guys, I need your input here... if you have never experienced such a behavior on your phone, if it's not a known bug, I need to know, in order to report it DOA.
edit: on the other hand, maybe it's related to this issue, so hoping to get fixed in the first update...
Hi,
observing this problem for quite a few weeks. Sometimes my complete signal drops down to zero, without moving the phone.
Turned off 3g -- still the same. Need to switch in airplane-mode and back to get normal signal again.
Its really annoying because if I don´t notice it, nobody can call me for hours...
Unfortunately my warranty has expired..
Any Suggestions? Should I try another radio?
By the way, its s-off, using fallout and installed the newest radio (from the offi ICS Upgrade)
I also experience the same, although doesn't take that long for signal to return but certainly do watch larger swings in the.signal reception
Only really occurs in weak signal areas and certainly better than I've screen it do on some previous Rom/radio versions
Although I'm not getting missed calls or many voice mails which suggestions that my incoming calls aren't being affected greatly.
Sywepd form my DsereiS
I have this problem too, but i have previous radio from 2.3.5. I don't have missed calls but this is annoying.
Hello everyone, I have a major problem with my HTC Sensation (CM 10.2 Android 4.3 JB)
My wifi router is on the 1st floor and my room is on the 2nd floor. My bed is right next to a wall that is right above my wifi router so i should be getting at least 2 bars of solid signal strenght. But no, when i lay on my bed the phone is about 30cm away from the wall and i get the poor signal strenght of one bar, and it isnt even soldi because it looses that one bar eventually.. When i put the phone on bed and as close as i can to the wall, it gets 2-4 bars.. Almost excellent signal but why the hell does it barely get one bar if im holding a phone 30cm away from the bloody wall? Another thing is when i get even further away, the signal drops completely, BUT when i turn the wi fi off, then on again on my phone it connects without a problem even if im on the other end of the room, further away from wifi router. How, how the hell does it get the signal while connecting but cant maintain it when and where i need it? I never had a problem with my previous phone (iPhone 3gs lol) and that is really sad. I am AWARE that this phone has a death grip, wifi is set to never sleep and thats about it. Oh and those pins on battery case of my sensation are a bit... Dirty i think, not really shiny. Also as i said my iphone didnt have a problem with wifi signal strenght, nor does my gaming console or my laptop so yeah, only this phone.. What can i possibly do? Install something or what? Is this phone really that bad? Please someone help i cant do anything on my phone without wifi .
Thanks.
There can be 2 things
1. Which cm ROM do u use as some ROMs have kernel with low WiFi power (mostly all cm) , I would suggest u to use sense ROMs , I also face problems if WiFi signal as I only get 2 bars on cm where as I get full signal on sense at same location of my house
2. Do not hold the phone in landscape as u might cover that WiFi antenna which is over the top of the phone ( power button location ) , and it makes the signal drop .

I dont really want to change my cyanogenmod rom because theres no better rom than CM if you ask me BUT i just found a solution, a very unusual one. Headphones help increase your wifi signal. I just plugged my headphones in and now get 2-3 bar solid signal where without headphones plugged, there wouldnt be any. Really strange but it works. Hope this thread helps someone!
