Hi XDA,
I am looking into a meenova card reader for traveling instead of my 1tb hard drive which needs to be plugged into an outlet to work.
Now I know all about the meenova card reader but my issue is that it needs to be in closer proximity to my phone. That being said I have an otter box like case on my nexus 5 and it impedes something like the meenova from attaching since there is little room and far from the input.
Is there any extender like adapters that would be about half an inch to an inch to accommodate the reader? I don't really want a long cable to plug into the end. Just something to move it out further.
So it needs to me a micro USB to micro USB adapter.
Thanks XDA, hopefully you can guide me in my quest Lol.

You can get USB OTG to connect to a micro sd card to why not incorporate it into a case to avoid the hassle. And maybe if there's room make the rest of the space into and external wireless battery?
A wireless battery will also make it heavier. A tiny flash storage + micro usb input will be nice though.
Wouldn't that case restrict you to wireless charging? Sorry if I'm not caught up on using the otg usb and still charging using micro-usb.
Even so, I think unless you're adding a battery along the entire back of the phone, the balance will be messed up. And if you do that, it will make it pretty big.
does usb otg even work on the N4 with its slimport?

There is at least one other thread here about a DIY case with a microsd card but USB OTG is not available with the Nexus 4.

it's a nice idea. Had it a while back and thought I'd keep it to myself if I ever could make a business out of it. Would take care of all these no microsd phones. In the cases of those with removable backs you could get a special back that includes the clot and wires into the USB
Hey there folks, I was wondering if there was a special type of internal adapter to exist that would allow me to use 2, 64 GB micro sd cards in my phone. I'm looking for like a male micro sd card input-to-dual female micro sd card output adapter to connect to the female micro sd card input in the inside of my phone. It would use the same concept of the cable that is used to connect a desktop hard drive to the power source, then from the power source to the motherboard to make the drive primary or slave.... I think cuz I cant remember the name of that kind of cable?
Anyways, it would look kind of like this:
__________ _____
\_PHONE_/ __ \M-SD/
I I / \___/
I_I_______/
I _____
I____/M-SD\
\ ____ /

Why not just get a wireless hard drive? I have one and it's awesome.
Interesting - what brand do you have?
I have the SanDisk 64 GB Micro SD Card. It's the Class 10, grey and red-colored one. Iv'e never had any issues with my card, I just want to be able to add another 64 GB card without having to lug around a hard drive. There was a guy who had a similar kind of cable adapter setup but it was a male micro sd card input-to-dual female (reguar-sized) sd card output and his S3 was able to recognize his total memory of 128 GB's. How expensive, how big in physical size, and how big in GB size are wireless HDD's these days??

They had something like that before, can't seem to find it, you can try to contact them.
The price isn't cheap nor expensive.

you can also try this place.

The sandisk 128gb sd cards work with the s4, so this might be the easiest solution.
Yes, I realize the 128GB micro SD Card from SanDisk works with the Galaxy devices but I had initially asked the question way before the 128GB mSD came out this year. But still, if such a PCI type of card reader extender exists & it could let your galaxy device read (2) 128GB mSD cards.... WOW!

Ahh ha! I found it... kind of. It's basically this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014...rd-Compact-Flash-CF-Card-Type/1889508912.html but has (2) strips coming off if it to tie into a set of dual micro SD TF adapters. This would allow you to input the male side of this adapter into the back of the phone/tablet, while you could potentially input (2) 128GB micro SD cards into each slot of the TF adapter. If I remember correctly, this guy's version years ago was similar to what I'm looking for but his had 2 TF slots each for 2 separate regular-sized SD cards and was able to read up to 128GB's or so with his. Im saying, take the same technology but add 2 TF adapters to input (2) 128GB micro SD cards instead and put the male end of the adapter into the female micro SD card slot into the back of the tablet/phone.

I bought a female USB to male micro USB adapter and I can plug a thumb drive into my phone. It works great for transferring files. Now I just need a splitter to power an external hard drive to see if my phone can read that too.
It also works with a wireless mouse and keyboard USB dongle.
Similar to this:

The only dual micro sd adapter I have ever seen was for the playstation portable. 2 cards into one memory stick adapter. I have used the full sd to micro sd with a 128gb card. Worked fine when formatted to fat 32.
Now that 128gb micro sdxc cards are availble, no need for that Macguyver stuff.
Now if you could find an microsd to otg cable adapter with multiple microsd slots, that would be a winner.
Yeah, now you're talking... with "the micro usb-to-multiple micro SD card slot!" Imagine if there was an OTG cable just like that with support for dual/triple micro SD cards each at 128GB's and that the OTG cable could read it on all Galaxy tablets & the S4 & S5's?! Ohhhh the insanity!! :what:
The iSheep would have heart-attacks!
I shall buy the first OTG triple micro SD card cable you make if you patent it and build it!

...or just get an OTG cable and format an external portable drive to Fat32 and duct tape it all together 2TB in the palm of your hand!
honestly, and thin film OTG ribbon cable with built in USB hub and multiple SD card slots should work it could be thin enough fold over and to be double sided taped to the exterior of your battery cover without being too obvious. this would add maybe 2-3mm overall in thickness. probably wouldn't be to durable though. maybe integrate it into a TPU cover/case to protect the thin cable...
but then we are starting to get ridiculous.
See, now you're getting somewhere with your "usb hub & multiple SD card slots" idea MadMan. I saw an OTG cable with dual female micro SD slots but it was too thick (like an inch thick) and had a super sticky/tacky tape on the back so one could attach it to the back of your phone or phone case. Just too bulky. Although, the Wifi idea is something to look into as well but I'm usually not in areas that have Wifi, thus the desire for more space without carrying around an external HDD.
I was looking for basically a male Micro SD Extension Cable (like you see below) with a ribbon type connection but has dual female Micro SD slots so it could fit between the back of the phone and front of the battery or back of phone and front of phone case... not for the extension cable to be put on the back side of the phone case.

Interesting
the psp adaptors work good but are very flimsy
Just get a dual interface flash drive, micro usb + usb PC storage. The sandisk ones are pretty cheap and go up to 128gb. Theyre really small too, dont stick out much on the phone. Plus the storage speeds are much faster than micro SD and all your files are on one storage. I use mine for screen recording games with no lag or stutter, whereas writing to the micro SD causes a lot of games to pause so the card can catch up. Easier transfer to PC or sharing with other USB readable devices too. Much more worth it than a dual micro SD port (though it sounds pretty awesome)
Ok, so ya'll can keep this post going but I have officially lost interest due to my S5 having caught fire last week! Due to the damages to the phone, being a very long-standing TMobile customer, and misinformation from a few folks.... I have now received a FREE upgrade to a Galaxy S8! So happy now! Now I'll just swap over my *still working, yet undamaged* 64 GB Micro SD Card but maybe get the 256 GB SanDisk Micro SD Card in the future just for the hell of it... cuz I can! :silly:
Here's a pic that I took with my burner phone of my S5 after it caught fire.

And how in the hell did you manage that?
Does anyone have any ideas of a Card Reader that you can plug in your Android phone and Computer later?
I found the Patriot Cosmos but i want one that protects the SD card a little bit more and is smaller. Thank you
I have the Patriot Cosmos. To be honest, it's tough to get much smaller than that unless you want to get rid of the full-size SD card and only want MicroSD.
You can just get a USB OTG adapter cable that goes MicroUSB male to USB A Female (standard USB port) and that should allow you to use most USB card readers that don't require special drivers.

I see in the product write-ups that it reads SDcards and MicroSDcards but have not seen a picture showing a SDcard plugged in Is it possible to post a pic of the cosmos with an SDcard plugged into it?
Thanks

Since you asked nicely.
The three readers I have on hand: (with USB plug upright, ie not seam-up, pins on bottom)
Patriot Cosmos USB 2.0 reader - SD goes in side face down, MicroSD goes in same side face up above the SD
IOgear GFR304SD USB 3.0 reader - SD goes in side face up, MicroSD goes in end face down
Generic USB 2.0 reader - SD goes in side face up
Of course only the Cosmos has the OTG microUSB plug.
The SD card sticks out the same amount on all of them.
Perfect! Thanks. I was looking for a way to transfer my photos from my camera to my phone.

Another plus for the Cosmos - you can plug both MicroUSB and standard USB simultaneously - though I do not believe you can use the card reader in this configuration. I don't recommend it for day to day use, but if you're in a pinch and have no other means to charge your phone, etc...
I picked up a SanDisk Dual USB drive, and although it works well, I was disappointed to see it's a bit too big to work with the bumper case I use. I briefly considered modifying the case, but think my best option is getting a short USB extension cable... Though I thought that would be a simple and cheap solution. After a little looking around though, I'm not sure I know what micro usb extension I need - MHL, OTG, Power? As best as I can tell, I need what they're marketing as a micro to micro OTG extension - but if someone can confirm, I'd appreciate it. My concern comes from comments on some saying they don't work for charging or syncing (search for "YCS Basics 6 inch USB Micro male to female OTG extension cable" on amazon), but it sounds like the mhl cable is just for HDMI.
Help?
Just get a small USB OTG cable. I use one sometimes with my Corsair OTG drive and it works great. Not all of my cases will let me lug the micro USB in easily hence why I have a small OTG cable. I can post pictures if you would like.

Can you return it for the new USB 3.0 model? Supposedly they made the uUSB connector longer to work with more cases.

Really? That would have been great... but no. Or maybe... but probably not worth it to me at this point. I got a standard OTA cable and have just been living with it that way. And I haven't looked, but I'd have to think they're charging a premium for the 3.0 enhancement. I bought mine during one of those Christmas sales, so I got it real cheap at the time. Thanks though.
See, my phone (Moto X 2013) supports OTG, but does not have a micro SD slot.
It only has 16 GB of storage which has proven to fall short for my needs because I love listening to music on the go, and I have a lot of music.
Another thing is that the USB port of my phone has some short of false contact after years of use, so sometimes a little wiggle can make it disconnect, this is the main reason why I want the USB to be so small, so that when I walk with it on my pocket, it doesn't get disconnected because I touched it 'wrong'.
So that's the question, do you know of any small micro USB device (without the need of a micro USB adapter because it adds length and volume)?
Something like the Sandisk Cruze but on a micro USB form, something that looks more like the USB plug of a wireless keyboard than a USB storage device. Thank you.
As a side note, I was thinking of those phone cases that serve as external batteries, well if there was something like that but that served as a micro SD to micro USB adapter, I could use that. The thing is that I have seen no such thing for sale and even if there was, I doubt I would be able to find one for my exact phone model from 7 years ago.
