Can anyone recommend a VERY small micro USB flash drive? - General Questions and Answers

See, my phone (Moto X 2013) supports OTG, but does not have a micro SD slot.
It only has 16 GB of storage which has proven to fall short for my needs because I love listening to music on the go, and I have a lot of music.
Another thing is that the USB port of my phone has some short of false contact after years of use, so sometimes a little wiggle can make it disconnect, this is the main reason why I want the USB to be so small, so that when I walk with it on my pocket, it doesn't get disconnected because I touched it 'wrong'.
So that's the question, do you know of any small micro USB device (without the need of a micro USB adapter because it adds length and volume)?
Something like the Sandisk Cruze but on a micro USB form, something that looks more like the USB plug of a wireless keyboard than a USB storage device. Thank you.
As a side note, I was thinking of those phone cases that serve as external batteries, well if there was something like that but that served as a micro SD to micro USB adapter, I could use that. The thing is that I have seen no such thing for sale and even if there was, I doubt I would be able to find one for my exact phone model from 7 years ago.

USB charging and USB Host/micro SD with one cable

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a galaxy tab 8.9 for my car but I'm still skeptic.
The plan is to have one cable from the tab to the "car" which is charging the tab when the motor is started. This can be done with 5V DC/DC converter and a USB cable I'd say...
But now I noticed that this tab has no micro sd slot so I want to have a possibility to extend memory with usb or micro sd. I know that there are some adapters for usb host or micro sd but all off them I found are using the the standard samsung connector which is already used for charging in my case.
I found the pinout and it seems that this connector has everything on it which anybody needs. But I need charging and usb host at the same time!
Is there a cable which has multiple ends for USB host and client and micro sd (and maybe also hdmi, analog audio/video, ...) ? Just, one cable that can do everything which is on the samsung connector. That would be cool...
Anybody knows of something like this?
I'd be happy just finding an adapter that is just microsd... everything I've seen is full-size sd or 15 different bulky slots. You might check dealextreme. they just added galaxy tab accessories. they dont have what youre looking for, but maybe they'll have some combination that works just as well. they have some stuff i've not seen elsewhere.
I would say one of these kits from Samsung with the SD card and get a microSD with SD adapter and you should be good to go I would think.
Galaxy Tab USB and SD Connection Kit:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/galaxy-tab-accessories/EPL-1PLRBEGSTA
If you go to "features" it says:
SD or micro SD Compatibility The USB & SD Connection Kit comes with a SAMSUNG micro SD Adapter, allowing you to convert a micro SD card to work in a larger physical slot. Just insert your micro SD card into the SAMSUNG micro SD Adapter and you have a standard-size SD card compatible with the SD Adapter.
As for other adapter ends you might want to check out Belkin or Re-trak and see what they offer. I know that I got a Re-trak multi-adapter kit with HDMI cable a few weeks ago. It does not have a 30pin adapter unfortunately though my phone actually has a better camera in it so I really wouldn't be needing to play video from the tab.

thx to all...
problem solved.
Now can build my own cable.

[Q] iphone tip converter to micro usb?

Hi there,
I know this is a weird question....but I really like this small portable charger that is for the iphone:
http://www.jcrew.com/browse/single_...&nav_type=SEARCH&bmUID=jKaPT92&bmLocale=en_CA
As far as I've seen, nothing is available like that for android (something very compact, no cords)
Is there an iphone 30 pin to micro usb converter? Something that I could put on top so that I could plug my phone in.
I know that there is a usb on the other end, and that I could get a usb to micro usb cord, but I'd really like to elimate the number or cords I'm carrying around.
Thanks for your help!

[Q] Replacing microSD slot with full sized SD slot (tablet)

Hi,
I am thinking turning an cheap chinese Android tablet (probably 7 inch) into home "sound system" or jukebox (offline use, wall mount + wall charger powered) together with my PC active speakers. It is only for a small room, I know about common quality of the sound output of such devices and do not take it as problem.
However, I would like to make it easier to store and replace albums etc. and thus need to replace the tablet microSD slot with a slot for standard SD cards (expect 32GB or more 16GB pieces) which are cheaper and much easier to remove. Are there any expected issues related to removing current slot and soldering the new one? As I know from using passive SD adapters for microSD cards - both slots should have same wiring.
Did anybody here already tried something similar? Would appreciate advices or comments.
there shouldnt be any problem with soldering a full size one on as inside sd to micro sd convertors there is no circuitry it is just a pin to pin connection. and your project sound quite cool actually hope everything goes well :good:
Yes, it's possible but i would be scared about doing something similar except if the tablet is dead and this is need to revive it.
You need a good hand to solder it, take care about near circuits! Don't keep your solder near circuits too much, just a few seconds to get you soldering!
Let us know if you'll try this mod!
Hi,
I know the circuitry is very sensitive and I planned to ask my friend who has professional soldering station. However, we just found out that the tablet we have (noname chinese 7-inch tablet without battery, but works OK on usb power) should support USB host (it is switched on in kernel and my brother found some info related the motherboard), so I will order some cheap USB host cable on Ebay and check this alternative first. It would be better for me as I could use common flash disks as music storage.
So will see....

[Q] USB extension for Sandisk Dual USB?

I picked up a SanDisk Dual USB drive, and although it works well, I was disappointed to see it's a bit too big to work with the bumper case I use. I briefly considered modifying the case, but think my best option is getting a short USB extension cable... Though I thought that would be a simple and cheap solution. After a little looking around though, I'm not sure I know what micro usb extension I need - MHL, OTG, Power? As best as I can tell, I need what they're marketing as a micro to micro OTG extension - but if someone can confirm, I'd appreciate it. My concern comes from comments on some saying they don't work for charging or syncing (search for "YCS Basics 6 inch USB Micro male to female OTG extension cable" on amazon), but it sounds like the mhl cable is just for HDMI.
Help?
Just get a small USB OTG cable. I use one sometimes with my Corsair OTG drive and it works great. Not all of my cases will let me lug the micro USB in easily hence why I have a small OTG cable. I can post pictures if you would like.

Can you return it for the new USB 3.0 model? Supposedly they made the uUSB connector longer to work with more cases.

Really? That would have been great... but no. Or maybe... but probably not worth it to me at this point. I got a standard OTA cable and have just been living with it that way. And I haven't looked, but I'd have to think they're charging a premium for the 3.0 enhancement. I bought mine during one of those Christmas sales, so I got it real cheap at the time. Thanks though.

One-piece Micro USB-C Card Reader/Adapter

What kind of one-piece USB-C reader/adapter can be used to directly connected to the Mi Mix to use an external microSDXC 64Gb card as external storage to easily transfer files? I don't mean a cable that in one end is the connector that goes into the phone and then on the other end is a bulky adapter where the memory card needs to go in.. I mean a one piece, ultra small, all in one, one end is the usb-c connector and the other hand the mini slot where the memory.card goes in..
I actually don't even know if the Mix connectivity is USB2 or 3 but wondering what will work and is the fastest that once attached to the Mix just shows in a file manager Android app directly as external storage.
Thanks for the input or recommendation on a brand or model/s.. if such thing exists like for example Lexar makes for iPhone that is a 1/2" mini adapter, lightening port on one side and a back slot where the memory card goes in directly
I think you could try something like this.https://www.walmart.com/ip/Nekteck-...6447&wl11=online&wl12=483707996&wl13=&veh=sem

Thanks for the info Will these be automatically recognized as external storage by the phone once plugged-in or are there any settings/tweaks that need get changed or activated for this to work as a plug-and-play storage?
Thanks again very much
