How to flash CLEAN flash roms - This is how I flash roms(even updates of the same rom) and the method i recommend to users. It is better to take 10 mins to set your phone again rahter than wasting more time to fix issues that could have been avoided by a clean flash.
NOTE- This is a MUST when changing roms.
1. Backup EFS
2. Make a nandroid backup in recovery
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe system
5. Wipe cache
6. Wipe dalvik
7. Flash ROM
8. Flash gapps(if flashing an AOSP ROM)
9. Flash kernel(optional)
10. Reboot
11. Wait 10 mins, then do another reboot
12. Enjoy
How to DIRTY flash roms - This method is used by users when flashing a update of the same rom.
NOTE- Some users follow this and some just flash the rom without wiping anything.
Note- If you flash rom that has aroma installer you will need to edit the updater script to make sure the aroma doesn't wipe system before flashing rom.
1. Backup EFS
2. Make a nandroid backup in recovery
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash gapps(if flashing an AOSP ROM)
7. Flash kernel(optional)
8. Reboot
9. Wait 10 mins, then do another reboot
10. Enjoy
How to SUPER CLEAN flash roms - This is the method that I recommend to your that have weird issues, even after clean flashing.
NOTE - If you dont know how to Odin the stock FW(firmware), read this guide.
NOTE - Make a backup of your internal sdcard and save rom/gapps/kernel/etc on external sdcard.
1. Backup EFS
2. Make a nandroid backup in recovery
3. Odin the stock FW(firmware) for your device, the phone will boot into the OS
4. Boot into download mode and flash a custom recovery, I recommend TWRP
5. Wipe internal storage
6. Wipe data/factory reset
7. Wipe system
8. Wipe cache
9. Wipe dalvik
10. Flash ROM
11. Flash gapps(if flashing an AOSP ROM)
12. Flash kernel(optional)
13. Reboot
14. Wait 10 mins, then do another reboot
15. Enjoy

How to flash flash kernels - Many users say to wipe cache/dalvik but it's useless as neither if their partitions are affected when flashing a kernel.
1. Boot into recovery
2. Flash kernel

after doing your nandroid backup,
DO A FULL WIPE:
1) wipe DATA
2) wipe CACHE
3) wipe DALVIK CACHE (in advanced menu)
4) do this at least TWICE, just to be on the safe side.
after wiping:
flash ROM.ZIP first, then REBOOT
after reboot and setting up, reboot the phone again into clockworkmod recovery and WIPE CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE.
then flash kernel.zip.
reboot and enjoy. oh, and also hit the thanks button
So when should we be mounting system. Is it not necessary?

after your full wipe, then you do install from zip, that should do everything needed to install/mount/whatever magic goes into installing that ROM on your phone
i've never consciously done anything to my memory of manually mounting anything. Just wipe -> rom install
I am currently running Beans Custom Stock B7, with LeanKernal by Imoseyon.
Today I saw that there is a Build 8 for Beans Custom stock and I was wondering if I would just wipe cache/dalvik and then install from zip for the new build?
I used the guide put together by DroidStyle and I am under the impression that I would simply do the same thing as when I installed it but I could simply do a Cache/dalvik wipe instead of data (so the only real difference would be step 6).
Is that it or am I missing something?
---------------
From the guide:
Step 3: Download and open the EZ recovery App from section 4:
Step 4: Select CWM touch, flash, reboot recovery
Step 5: Perform a Nadroid Backup in the back up/restore menu!
Step 6: Wipe Data/Factory reset(Cache wipe is all thats normally required, but data wipe is recomended)
Step 7: Select install .zip from sd and install the rom you downloaded in step 2
Step 8: Reboot
---------------
Also are all themes the same in the sense of just installing from Zip?
Thanks guys!

yep... that's it. Just to be clear, you don't have to flash CWM if you already have.

I haven't tested it a lot yet, i think that everything is like in CM11
Didn't find anything major
For personal reasons the OP is not able to support this project.
I'm trying to restore my N5 to absolute stock, but I don't have use of the USB port at all, after it got in an argument with a puddle!
Ideally I want to put the device back to stock, so that it can be updated to 5.0, which I can't do at the moment as it's quite heavily customised/rooted which stops the updates installed.
Does anybody know if there's a way to do this? Thanks!
Yes it is, flash this file in your recovery.
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358549862
That file is Android 4.4.4 Kitkat flashable zip file.
- Un-mount /system in TWRP/CWM
- Wipe: system, dalvik and cache (note: if you want to clean install, wipe data as well)
- Flash ROM (be patient - takes a while)
- Flash SuperSU (optional)
- Reboot

Fantastic, thank you!
As the title said you can now go down to ARB3
i dont own this video but it works well
https://youtu.be/L4nRqwUfzAg
Download PitchBlack for Note5 Pro/Ai (WhyRed)
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pi...red-2.9.0-20181003-2112-OFFICIAL.zip/download
Instructions
1.) Install Pitchblack recovery using TWRP
2.) Reboot back to recovery
3.) goto advance then additional then special
4.) open SETTINGS OTA and CHECK everything
5.) wipe all partition (except internal if you dont have sdcard)
6.) Flash any ARB3 ROM 9.2.x.x
7.) Wipe Cache/Dalvik and reboot
8.) once you see RESET PHONE boot back to recovery
9.) format data, cache and dalvik.
10.) enjoy. jumping up and down
This is the same as flashing firmware less roms from AL IRAQI's thread on any custom recovery. This will not change your ARB4 bootloader to ARB3. What pitchblack recovery's doing is not flashing the firmware partitions.
Missleading title, please remove in this section
