[Q] Flashing a factory image after IMEI repair... will it restore the original imei? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys ...
I really need some help here...
so... I changed the IMEI on my nexus 5, that required an unlocked bootloader and a root... now I want to relock the bootloader and flash the stock image...
my question is:
Will the imei in my phone is going to be restored to the original phone imei? or can I still have the new imei after relocking and flashing the stock image
thank you

How and why did you change your imei?
Sent from my Nexus 5

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttt?? How did you change the IMEI??
BTW, flashing factory images won't have any effect on IMEI..

How much did they charge you for it??
The Nexus 5 is carrier unlocked and it should work all over the world(except 4g LTE ). Not sure why yours didn't!

the mobile carriers in turkey let you use your phone for 2 weeks ... if you bought your phone from outside of turkey... to make you buy a phone from them instead of buying it from other countries
and it costs me 35$
so... back to my question (vin4yak) are you sure about that? cuz I don't want to pay 35$ again

Ok well changing IMEI is illegal in most countries so it cannot be discussed here.

Technically it shouldn't... The factory images don't touch the /efs partition which contains the IMEI... But since it's been changed illegally, there's no way to know "how" it was actually changed.

I don't think they changed anything, just maybe allowed that IMEI within the networks.

Changing IMEI is illegal in many countries therefore cannot be discussed on XDA
So please do not speculate on or discuss the process

Methods to SIM Unlock

METHOD 1: I purchased an unlock code that wroked first try....
COST $22
I would like to share my experience for those who do not want to get scammed.
IT WILL TAKE 24 hrs AT LEAST with these guys so don't set your pants on fire waiting !!! I have used this site for all my phones.
Send an email [email protected]. Send IMEI and carrier details, country of carrier.
Then use code to unlock. If you need help entering code please post back.
METHOD 2: I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS. BUT There is another method to unlock the phone using a USB hack. This has worked for most people who tried it. It involves running software on your computer to replace the unlock code location via USB with zeros. This method is covered here in more details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1617999
User experience is also available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25480419#post25480419
The ebay method seems to work for now. it can run from $15 -$17.

Nope. Unlocked is when you can use it on a carrier other than At&t. With the skyrocket you have to buy an unlock code. Bloatware is removed in custom roms.

Welcome !
They are different things. Unlocking is SIM card unlocking that then allows you to use your phone on any GSM network.
Removing bloatware requires "rooting". You get access to system files etc. allowing you to modify the software on there.
This a good starting point for Skyrocket to modify software:

[Q] How to get my Nexus S working ?

Hi, this is my first post
Last year I found a new Nexus S outside Undergroung (subway), when I got home I checked and it worked fine with my simcards (vodafone and t mobile) I but never used it really.
My phone is now broked and I tried to use this Nexus but any simcard I insert is now not working everything else is fine, wifi, apps etc. It just won't recognise any simcards.
When I try to make a call it says " mobile network not available".
I searched the forum but found nothing to solve the issue. I have taken it to my local repair shop and they couldn't help me. It has the ice cream sandwich android version 4.0.4.
Can anyone here help me with getting the sim to work ? : )
Did it have ICS when you found it? Also, what model is it? (I9020A, I9020T, I9023?)
It did not. I updated it.
Its I9023.
Any more info required?
How did you update it?
I'd try to flash the factory image with fastboot and see if simcards work.
Maybe it got reported lost so IMEI got disabled

Right, did you obtain the phone legally (purchase), or did you find the phone lying around and picked it up?

I found it last year as I said in the opening post.
Would they still do it ?
Try flashing it back to an earlier version like 2.3.6

Hand it in to the police. If no one claims it within some time frame, it's yours (at least true for uk)
Then if you do get to keep it, then you can ask your network to unblock the imei, and cite the police reference so they know it's legit

Do ths first: http://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-root/how-to-root-nexus-s-or-nexus-s-4g-on-ics-or-gingerbread/
then using the recovery (power+volume up) flash the second one if your phone is i9023 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572307 there you go, stock 2.3.6, rooted.
I do suggest you hand this to the police, for legal purposes only

Not sure which provider I am on (Fixed)

I just got a SGS3 today, but I am not sure which provider it is from (Verison, AT&T...). I picked it up from a friend, and not from a store. I believe it was from Bell, but I am not too sure.
Is there a way I can find out the provider? So far, I see that you need to know your provider to make sure you don't brick your machine :/
Regards,

Edit: I haven't looked into it yet (I will after I finish editing) but do I need to know the provider to unlock the phone, or is that one quick method?
Edit2: I remembered it came with a Rogers Sim card
Sounds like a stolen phone......

The baseband is i9300 xxale8.
I just tried rooting it using SGS3 Toolkit, not sure where I went wrong, but It just displays "Samsung" before going black.
Edit: When did they make you also press the Home Button to go into download mode. That caused me some headache

Nope. Sorry! It usually is branded in build.prop

I gotta ask...Did you flip it over and look at the backplate? Mine says verizon.
That is not a verizon baseband. Verizon begins with I535...not sure what provider uses that number because it appears to be the international variants baseband. Not sure though, but definitely not verizon

Didn't expect it to be from Verison, but I didn't expect it to be from the others as well, and I had to post this somewhere
I9300 sounds like an international phone so you most likely have the gsm international version... but im not gonna lie... the op makes it sound like its a stolen phone :silly:

A friend of mines relative works for a phone company, so I got it through them. I hope that doesn't make it sound sketchy :/
My old SGS2 was actually stolen from me I wish the IMEI number was printed on the box so that I could trace it
You have the international version. It is not tied to a carrier the same way the US versions are and has a separate forum.

[Q] flashed an other nexus 5' EFS backup. no 3G/4G network no IMEI

Hi everyone.
This is the first time I publish in this forum, so apologise my beginner's manneer
I did a big mistake, when I bought my new Nexus 5, I wanted to restore all data from a backup I made on my older nexus 5 via TWRP custom recovery, and unfortunately i checked the EFS case, this caused my IMEI lose, & at the beginning, I had no network signal until I set up this one on Only EDGE. Now i have just no 3G & 4G network. This is so bad with a NEW purchased phone hope it will be an issue for this.
I tried flashing back to stock, everything failed, no IMEI (0) & NO 3G/4G.
Btw there's no Google/LG service in my country

There's not, unfortunately. You gotta send it in.
That's a harsh lesson to learn. I've made it a habit of backing up partitions separately for a few reasons including avoiding this situation. So easy to not pay attention at the wrong time.

Dear xda users, is it possible to unlock Galaxy S7 SM-G930T without the unlock app?

Hi, everyone.
I bought a galaxy s7 via ebay, which was initially clean, but after 3.5 months it was blocked by TM due to an outstanding balance. I tried to reason with T-mobile reps, but to no avail.
There is a guy on ebay (repairimei) who claims that he can unlock my Galaxy S7 without using the unlock app. He claims that he will change the imei and then unlock the phone bypassing the unlock app altogether. Is this even possible?
best,
San
Yep. Has been out for a while now. It's CPID calculated (Read) generated certs being written to the phones. And that's auto unlock for all Samsung after write .cert

Only "free" way is the highway lol
If you want option of no charge use the built in Device Unlock apk if your device is eligible for Unlock in T-mobile database.

Flashing custom ROM shouldn't hurt it. Root wouldn't either but just make a backup
