Is there any way to get OTA updates on a rooted phone? I only rooted it to get rid of the bloatware, so everything else is stock. I downloaded the update from samfirmware, but will it wipe my device if i flash it with odin?
Use triangle away to get system status offical and binary counter 0, then ota update works

Ok, finally got it official, but it doesn't show me any update available, although a friend with the exact same android version as mine got his update yesterday. What is wrong with this phone?!

If u don't have play version, just allow track to run. if u have stock kernel and stock rom it works, just reset counter and allow track to run and reboot phone. If it doesn't work first boot, do it again.

Use samsung kies. Install kies to ur computer and plug ur phone to computer and run kies
Still no luck, And it's weird since we got the last update at the same time. Would flashing the new firmware with odin wipe my device or give me errors in apps?

Uhhh, you are about 1 week to late for this information. Thanks though.
I was rooted, no lagfix when I tried to update. It got to 100% then it said failed. My baseband says I897UCJH7. Kernel 2.6.29 [email protected] #2.
Did the update work or not?
Flashman, how did your OTA update go? Any issues us rooted/unlocked folks should be worried about?
My instinct is to delay the update until I stop seeing posts about hot it F'd up people's phones.

If you rooted and removed anything from stock rom, you're pretty much guaranteed to fail on OTA update. In order to make the OTA download package as small as possible, Samsung uses a diff patch based on the bit differences between stock JF6 image and new JH7 image. So, if you touched the JF6 in any unauthorized way, the patch won't work.
Luckily, you can now use the newly released Kies Mini to do a full ROM update which should be more reliable as you have the entire ROM image downloaded to your desktop and then flash to your phone.

What do you mean removed anything from stock rom? I rooted and removed a bunch of the bloatware and did an OTA update with no issues.
I failed along with most other rooted and flashed guys. Luckily I didn't brick my phone in the process. I will wait until some beret update comes along before trying anything ota again.
Sweet life
Nevermind, I guess it didn't update fully cause some of the implemented changes aren't there. I really didn't want to have to run a master clear and have to reinstall all my stuff.

Do you have TouchWiz as your default launcher? and make sure you're on your home screen when you connect your USB cable.
If that doesn't do it you need to get back to JF6 only way or another because Mini Kies will continue to tell you that you have an "unregistered" device until it is at JF6
The reason is because your update failed partially :/
are you guys talking about a new update or just JH7?
We're talking about JH7, some people are still having difficulties getting it on their phone as the OTA is still failing - and if you've failed the OTA you need to reflash to stock before mini kies will work.
when i did the update i was rooted an it didn't fail on install or bootup or anything.
but then again i'm just rooted and nothing else has been touched.

Exactly, I don't think root causes any issues. I was able to check for update on a rooted ROM.

I got this phone from Craigslist, and the previous owner had rooted the phone. I downloaded the factory rom and de-rooted it using ODIN, so I thought I was golden. Now the ICS update is here and whenever I download the update rom, after the phone resets I get a message saying the installation was interrupted. What should I do? Hi, I'm currently having troubles checking for updates on my motorola razr hd. Ever since android version 4.1.2 my phones shows "check for update is not available at this time."After upgrading 4.0.4->4.1.2 it worked fine but then i decided to do a factory reset for my phone, which resulted into an infinite loop. This then was fixed temporarily with a fix I found on the web but afterwards I tried to install 3rd party apps but it didn't allow me. I also tried to update which gave me the same error ,"check for update is not available at this time." So I gave motorola a call about 5 months ago and they guided me to do a hard reset which fixed the 3rd party installation problem. However the update message still persists. Can anybody help me with this problem?
PS. I have not rooted my phone. It's still on stock android 4.1.2 I've tried both using wifi and LTE but it results in the same error.

i would find that update here http://sbf.droid-developers.org/
and use rsd to flash it. the update caused some errors, it is best to start fresh.
you can google how to use rsd if you need a tutorial, its pretty easy, just a few steps.
i dont think there is any less evasive path to get you back on track.

I guess I am a blonde robot . Anyways I just did some research and I am gathering that there is a bug in my system's firmware from the JB update which is preventing me to update my software or check for updates. I suppose I need to follow the link and locate the stock firmware file for my device based on the system version I am running. Furthermore I need to use RDI Lite 6.0? So where can I find a step by step proper tutorial/ guide to walk me through the process as I have never flashed anything before. OK that seems more specific. Thanks

Hi guys,
Just like other people I have also rooted my Note 3 and flagged/tripped the KNOX counter...
The issue first appeared when I was trying to upgrade from Android OS, v4.3 (Jelly Bean) to v4.4.2 (KitKat). The update notification popped, it took roughly 40 minutes to download the firmware and I was then prompted to install. The device then restarted automatically as usual and I received the "Failure to update" window. I have tried couple of times more in case something went wrong with the download but it didn't help. So I had to install the update manually from SamMobile, using Odin and wiping my phone data. Everything went well and I am now enjoying the KitKat version.
Today it seems a new update appeared around 26 MB and I am facing the same issue. After I download the update and hit install, the device will restart and then show the "Failure to update" window.
Is there any way to fix this? Does it mean I can never install the updates automatically?
Please advise and thanks in advance.

Right, so I can just receive the updates but not install them! that's convenient
Do I have to wipe everything again or just install the latest update? Because if I have to wipe everything each time there's an update, I may just cancel the whole update thing until there's something like a major update

You don`t have to wipe as the updates atm are mostly bugfixes. Only wipe cache and dalvik cache after the flash.

You`re welcome bro
When I go to manually update my phone, I'm getting an OTA update.
Anyone know what the update is? I'm rooted so I can't install it and clicking the learn more link takes me to a dead website.
im downloading now, not rooted.
Edit: Just states enhancements and improvements. android version : still 5.0.2 / build number : LRX22G. G920VVRU1A0E2
Tried to update and it failed on me. Can't get it to go again.
Edit: Tried the update again and it worked.
I just updated mine successfully and all it showed was.. "Software updated to G925VVRU1AOE2" The link to "Learn More Online" was to a 404 page
Apparently this is what the updated is, but I can't update cuz I'm rooted
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/06/0...rst-update-with-hd-voice-photo-editor-tweaks/
The ram management seems to be a bit better now, will have to see if the battery life especially on wifi has improved.
I don't think it's worth going through unrooting process. The updates are minor.
Just wait till one of the ROM's are updated and flash that.
Has anyone taken the update and still was able to root?

Nothing I see is worth the update. I've turned off HD Voice...that seems to be one of the major battery drains. Ill wait till others download and see if there is an improvement
The release notes seem to have a different FW version AOD5 rather than AOE2 which is the actual OTA.
It should still be rootable if it matches other AOE2 ROMs from other carriers but only time will tell.
There is a download on Samsung-Updates of the Full TAR.
my 2 cents
The root app has to be updated with this update if you flash this you will not be able to root until pingpong updates it just a warning I took the plunge.
