[Q] Previously Rooted Skyrocket won't update OTA - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I got this phone from Craigslist, and the previous owner had rooted the phone. I downloaded the factory rom and de-rooted it using ODIN, so I thought I was golden. Now the ICS update is here and whenever I download the update rom, after the phone resets I get a message saying the installation was interrupted. What should I do? Also, I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to post. :silly:

Issues Updating to Official ATT ICS (US)

Hello, today I've noticed that my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket) had received the updated ATT ICS (US). It downloaded successfully without any issues. At the current point, my phone is rooted with the stock ATT Gingerbread OS, with clockwork touch 5.8.1.3-hercules.tar. I never bothered to install any 3rd party unofficial ROMS because I was waiting for the official ATT ICS which apparently released today. Anyway once the download completed, my phone restarted normally and went automatically in to CWM which was expected. From there, I chose "install from zip", apply /sdcard/update.zip. Right after that I get an error message "Can't mount /sdcard/update.zip", so I click "Go Back", I then select "Mounts and storage" > mount /sdcard, and get "Error mounting /sdcard!".
I've tried doing this also with a prior version of CWM (prior to 5.8.1.3), but I've got the same issue. I've also tried to plugin my phone to my PC and looking for the update.zip, so I can manually transfer it to the root of the phone's file system, but it was not there although it downloaded. I do not have any additional external SDCARD installed.
Could I possibly get the update.zip from an official ATT hyperlink for my phone so I can manually download it on my PC and transfer it to the phone's root file system?
Is there a Fix for "Can't mount / sdcard"? I looked around but could not find an answer.
Please advise.
wait...what? release today?!?
Are you sure it's ICS and not UCLA3 yet again??
Also, I'm pretty sure you need to be on stock recovery in order for the update to work.

O.K., your join date is May 2012, you only have 1 post and I'm to believe you have a rooted device, ready to upgrade to ICS, yet what really sticks out is that this is the only time you've posted.
Well, the file that downloaded file was way over 200megs, probably 250-280 and right after, the the download, my phone restarted going to CWM. I may just backup my data and restore everything to factory so see the update complete. Not sure if anyone had the download available. Not sure if the location matters, I'm located in South Florida.
Thanks for the prompt reply's btw.
Yea regardless, as skrambled said, nothing is going to work unless you're on the stock recovery. Think about it, its an official update and cwm is a custom (unofficial) recovery.

I got a prompt for an update was well today, it took a while to download and same thing happened, it went to CW on restart, I am also just rooted, no custom rom installed.
upload the update.zip and post here? i'm sure someone can verify the build it is and would be good info to have.
I'm doubting soooo much right now. When a reliable source confirms, or u post a screen shot with a different build number, then ill believe
just checked....
i have no update on my skyrocket...Boston mass area....

I decided to join because of the issue I'm having. Most of the time I read what others had to say on this forum and others.. I'm not too big on phone "tweaking" etc..., but I would surly like to get this update to work which is why I have joined. There are plenty of threads and other sites that offer step by step instructions of how to root a phone etc...So I would not be surprised if a member of one post has a rooted phone. Just Google "Root ATT Skyrocket".
my brothers completely stock skyrocket (no root, no nothing) received a notification of an update today.. it was just 2.3.6

If it was, maybe it'll be good to delete this entire posting to not cause too much confusion.

There have been so many false sightings and ICS treads started that it makes one leery of any mention of a OTA update. I want it sooooooooooo bad, because I know that once it's released, the devs will take it and pimp it out for me.....

I did apologize for my rushed opinion, I now apologize to you my friend....
Originally, I got hyped up about this update because I knew that around this time, we all should be expecting the official ATT ICS, and since my friend T has a huuuuuuge hard-on for Android phones, he was sure that the updated that downloaded on my phone was ICS, so I blame HIM for giving me a false positive! If you are reading this T, it's ALL YOUR FAULT! See how many people had to click on this pointless thread!

[Q] [HELP] cyanogen 10 reroot gone wrong on galaxy s blaze

I just installed the cyanogen 10 mod to my blaze and tried it. i went to this file manager that told me to reroot my phone so that I may be able to use it better. I went to odin to reroot it again but i accidentally used the original blaze.pit file on it and when it rebooted it showed me the original samsung starter instead of the cyanogen mod starter. That wasn't the problem, the problem was it never went in to the phones home screen or apps. Instead it continues to show the samsung logo and the flying android over and over again. I tried using the SGH-T769-hitsquad tar file to fix it (i need to mention that i bricked it once before and used this tar file to fix it) but it keeps taking me to the samsung logo. I can't even try to factory restore it because it just starts acting strange when I go to the menu. I can still go into download mode, i've gone searching for a file or anything to help me fix it but i can't find anything. Please, any suggestions?!
Here's a link to stock Tmo Blaze tar's from GB to ICS. ICS is the UVLH5 file. I suggest download that one.. then flash that file through odin.. dont include a Blaze pit file. just PDA file which is the one you'll download.
EDIT:
They're the ones ontop of the page that says Firmwares for SGH-T769 - USA (T-Mobile)
Let me know if it works for you.

Yeah, all you need is to reflash cwm through odin or if you still have cwm just flash a superuser or supersu zip.

Which superuser.zip should i use?
This thread should help you.
Just use that superuser.zip file, unless you want SuperSU, which I think it's better,

[Q] [URGENT] : P3113 OTA recieved

Hi All, I just now received some " Software Update " to Over Wifi having 387 MB size. I am afraid it is the Jelly Bean update
for GT-P3113.I have some questions which i would like to be answered as i have rooted my device.I have put "urgent" because the update is
ready to be installed and i am postponing it every 3 hours !!
1. Will the installation fail because i am rooted ? (CWM recovery)
2. Searched a lot but couldn't fully understand how to "un-root". Should i " revert to Stock " to unroot ?
3. Will i lose all the " User Apps " after i update ? (Update from samsung )
4. Is there a simple way to unroot ? (Some links would be great !!)
5. Is there a way to disable this automatic update from samsung ?
6.Shall i wait till CM10.1 stable is released and directly jump to it ?
Device : GT-P3113 , US WiFi only , Rooted ICS 4.0.4 , CWM installed
Thanks a lot for taking your time. Few of the queries are already out there but i couldn't get a good enough / confirmed answers. Mods please excuse !!
I tried the OTA and failed every time with Touch TWRP. Then I did this:
Download @ samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-P3113 to desktop pc/apple
Unzip folder
open Odin on PC
Boot Odin on Tab
Hook up Tab to PC
On Odin I unchecked 'Auto Reboot' and 'F. Reset Time'
I checked the 'PDA' box and put the MD5 file from the folder I just unzipped in that section
Hit start
Once I unplugged I powered down and rebooted the Tab. It will seem like you bricked it cause you will be stuck on the Samsung screen for awhile. It eventually goes to loading apps and then it starts. Give it a few after you get to the main screen as it's still loading and catching up.
I didn't lose my Apex Launcher or all my folders and how it's setup. Everything seems to be working good right now.
Sorry if the steps seem weird but I just remember that was the same way I rooted my Tab a few weeks ago, so I just followed the same steps.
Good Luck!

I take that back. I'm still new to all this. My root access is gone.

Anybody???
Well, whole day and no answers... Sigh . anyways if anybody owning a rooted P3113 had success either via OTA or Kies, please let me know.
The way I did it was to
1. use Odin to flash back to stock ICS from factory.
2. Reboot. Go to settings, about tablet, check for updates.
3. Update.
4. Use cf auto root to obtain root, and Clockworkmod.
Make a backup before you do this with CWM, and back up your apps with titanium backup. Put both of these on your PC for safe keeping. Also heard people had luck with mobile odin pro, though I did not. Good luck fellas.

I was running 4.0.4 stock, rooted with CF-Auto-Root, and I had no issues updating with kies. Just had to re-apply root after update.

It does not matter if you rooted, it does matter if you removed some of the factory apps. Of course you could have just tried it to find out easily enough
updated !!
Well , after a OTA failure and hearing few people talk about update via kies , i tried the kies few minutes back and it worked,
Updated to JB 4.1.1 however lost root though.
By the way i have lost the launch icons for all the user apps but i do see that they are installed in the applicaiton manager. Should i use TiB
and restore all apps or is there a easier way ?

Just flash full stock firmware using odin. Your phone should be Samsung SM-N900A. Pls check and BE SURE if its really like that before flashing anything provided in my post.
Here you can doenload the stock firmware AT&T and Odin --> http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=25106
You should install latest Samsung USB drivers --> download USB driver
For safety measures you should perform a EFS Backup using this APP
You personal data will be deleted during the flash process so take care of making a backup of everything you need.
Thats just what you need i suppose

Why should it not be possible to flash a older firmware? The point is that i have found just that version for your phone. Official firmware flashing via Odin will not affect KNOX. You can perform OTA update to newer version later i think. Just keep the EFS backup in mind
thanks

your phone has to be 100% stock or the update will fail. no root, no deleted/frozen bloat, nothing modified. if you don't want to do this, you cant take the update.
ok, thank you very much. So i just need to do a factory reset and then update phone then reroot ?Also are there any roms i can flash for the update?

usually custom roms don't contain all the needed files for a proper update. you need the factory stock file.
edit, sorry, missed the first part. yes fdr, then update, then re-root.
hey mister u need to manually download the latest and updated rom for it and then u have to put into sd card and then go to bootloader and try to flash it if u don't any trouble...
i dont know whats up with these jack holes re-wording and repeating what i already said today but its really starting to p me off.
