i've become used to a 4500 mah battery in my s3 lasting 12+ hours of heavy game/internet/video use. really want to try the m8 but afraid of the non user replaceable battery.
Short of cutting off the back of the case, and trying to solder a new battery in, and finding one that will work with your phone...no. However, since it's not a user replaceable battery, you kind of answered yourself.
More than likely you'll be able to get a special case with included external battery.

Sure, follow the instructions here: :silly:
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+(M8)+Teardown/23615
Then try to find a larger battery that will fit into the existing space.
Good luck, you're going to need it!
NOTE: All kidding aside, there's a reason it's called a non-removable battery!
If you need that big of a battery, do not get any phone with non - removable battery. Period.
Get u a external power bank battery.

This is the solution. Anker makes a 3000 mAh option that is barely bigger than the 18650 battery inside it. If that's not enough power, they offer options all the way up to 12000 mAh.
Is this a joke topic? Lol

It is a true unibody metal design. The answer from a cost and modding standpoint is "no way" and the only practical solution is a power pack.
BTW, it would seem HTC must be eating some healthy margin with this design strategy. The build seems too good and that usually comes at a cost. Wonder what their financial quarter results will be for the next two cycles. My education and work background is industrial technology and computer electronics. The M8 cost implications give my brain twitches. Not just the material cost, but the actual manufacturing process and design cost. Yikes.

If you get it, let us know your results. Too bad it's backordered for a few weeks. Hopefully those positive reviews aren't fake. 1500 mAH might be impossible in such a thin battery but who knows.
Mugen batteries are known to under preform from their mAh claims. I would be wary a any battery that claims more power without needing a new battery door as the only way to substantially increase the mAh is to increase the size of the battery. There is also no stated dimensions on the page.
Until a company figures out that they can add to the length of the battery with a modified door we're not going to see numbers beyond 1300.
Edit: I think HTC may have something in the works. This is what I'd wait for. Sales of this phone are through the roof so it makes sense that they could do this and get a return on the investment.

Oh wow. This is awesome. I guess I'll sit tight to see what HTC has in the oven.
(Regarding a possible extended HTC battery) I'm more than pleased with my battery life, but this is awesome. I would definitely buy - right now I'm getting about 1.5 days out of my phone, if I could make it to two days and charge every other night/ insure a full day with HEAVY use I would be very verrrry happy.

This is basically how I use my phone
-CM7
-Regular Use: Browsing internet is somewhat light, because I make good use out of the Pulse newsreader app. I'll check twitter/facebook a few times, make about an hour or so of phone calls per day, send about 15 texts, check xda a lot, and use audiogalaxy to stream my music library, and use runkeeper to track my runs when I'm running outside (when it is nice out) and I rarely run for less than an hour.
-2 Google Accounts, one of which is set to sync in the background (for gmail, calendar etc.)
-Auto Bright
-Wifi/GPS left on
-Social accounts syncing manually
I don't ALWAYS get 1.5 days. I get 1.5 days usually when my usage is somewhat light. I usually make the judgement call the night before if I need to charge or not. If I do charge after one day of pretty heavy use, the battery is almost always above 20% after a solid 24 hours.
Anyone else got HTC to tell this too?
It sounds like they just said that to get people off their back

Give them a call and see what they tell you.
Since no one posted I thought I'd give them a call and it turns out that churro7 might be right. I was told that HTC doesn't manufacture the batteries and was given a list of "Authorized" accessory stores online. She told me to check with them. So it sounds like the guy in the other thread was probably fed a line of ****.
The only thing HTC would make looks like it would be the new door. That's not to say they aren't contracting out the battery but I'd like to hear this from a credible source before I buy into it.
For the time being Sedio's 1300mAh looks like the only option.
Does anyone know of a battery that will fit but is longer? Obviously the contacts would have to line up right.
The dimensions are 52mm x 46mm x 5mm with the 46 being where we can go longer. The Thunderbolt's???
If I knew for sure one would fit I would order it along with getting HTC to send me a replacement battery door. Then I'd take the power tools to my original door to see if a little tweaking might make it work.

Look at the results of other Mugen batteries here.

Unless they are better able to utilize the internal space of the housing there is no way to extend the mAh capacity without also increasing the size of the housing. It would take new technology.
I'm not here to tell you how to spend your money. If you want to take a chance then by all means get yourself one. Then report your findings good or bad. That way others can make a more educated decision.
Don't waste your money.

I've got one of these. However they are fake? The battery life from what I've seen is not too much more than the normal battery. I've got another which came with my dock and I don't see much difference between that which is 1600 and the "2400". Also I may not be the best person to comment on it as I change my rom so much I use a lot of power in different roms which use more or less power.

It's not fake!
I have this battery about a month now and it's really great ok it's not sooo big but it lasts at least 2 days of full use,so obviously it's not fake it's really great and i think it worth to spend 10 bucks for it...
Please guys, be realistic.
How the hell should some unknown manufacturer put 2450 mAh of power in the same technology (Li-Ion) in the same size and shape in a battery with the same safety standards?
Based on basic chemistry knowledge that is pure bull****.
Even Mugen had problems pressing 1500 mAh in the same size and I'm sure they had to make the walls a little thinner (what is pretty risky) for that amount of energy-rich mass.
That is absolutely impossible and it is naive to think it is real.
It may be a halfway good replacement for the stock battery but it does never reach 2450 mAh. Never.
All of you guys who think the battery life is longer than stock may think as a placebo effect. As Dr. Lele said it's impossible to pack so much in so little size as of today's technology.
lol, the only battery that has better performance than the OEM one, is Mugen's.
They managed to squeeze 1500mAh into the battery.
I am planning to commercialise a 3000mAh Gold (etc) battery on ebay, with secret Chinese circuitry, for just €6 (no, not really)

Very true. I think a lot of it is the placebo effect... I tend to on a morning go and get that "2450mah" battery instead of the stock HTC ones. Most the time I cycle through the batteries but if I have to choose, I choose that just because it may get a little bit better battery life.... But I'm also worried it's cheaply made and might leak or something inside the phone..

Ive got a 1900mAh battery which is a good chunk bigger than the stock 1230mAh battery from htc and i won't ever believe that someone can produce such a "golden" battery out of thin air....
Unfortunately these batteries are likely going to only have 2 of the 3:
1. Upgraded capacity
2. Safety
3. Longevity
The only other option is a 3.8v chemistry battery, which is being used by Motorola, but it will likely not be fully charged by the phone.
Anyway, the stock battery gives 4.55 Whrs, a 3.8v version would give 4.67 Whrs. Which is to say, you're basically getting nothing extra.

I'd gladly trade a couple of mm and 10-15-20 grams weight to have a ~2500mAh battery in my One S!
Well, I think from what HTC had learned from customers, it could be a valid statement to say thin phones are better than large batteries from the sales point of view. The reason is simple, we want a phone which looks great even if the battery is not that ideal. Because when we take our phone out, it is the appearance which attracts us and others not the numbers presenting the battery capability, visual impression always stronger than spec sheet.
Just look at the MAO defect thread here, see how many people still stick with the black version even if there are well known problem/risk and they have to send the phone back several times to try their luck. (If I were that in love with black version, I would do the same) Does battery capacity annoy them? Compared to the MAO thing, not at all!!
So, I back HTC's statement only from the sales point of view. Of course a phone with both the same thinness and larger battery is better, but given the current technology constraints, you have to compromise one to another right? And I would happily go for thinness rather than 3000mAh.
Cheers!

Cmon, you really buy things just because they look good, or you need the oportunities it give? At this point - the possibility to use phone at all (no battery no phone).
Well, it seems we can have both. I would prefer a larger battery but if my One S gets the kind of battery life we've seen so far I will stop caring about how big the battery is. And like Adjust said, its all about battery management.
Thinner device of course!!
Around 8mm is the ideal size. As long as a battery lasts 12 hours throughout the day I'm fine with it.
It's all about having a sleek device that is eye catching and brilliant at the same time. Battery can be conserved through options, build design can not.

60 dollars seems steep. You could get an external anker battery with 12k mah for like 20 bucks and you wouldn't sacrifice size...these batteries seemed worth back then but with the cheap availability of power banks they seem irrelevant now.

Why would you need it on a higher technology device such as the Galaxy Note 4?.... I may want an external battery pack that's compatible with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 spec (Samsung's adaptive quick charge).
If I'm to spend $60.00 on a big heavy battery of a mediocre life warranty, I would rather my money spent on a battery I can use for other things such as to charge my Bluetooth Headphones
not to mention the case is an awful way to make an expensive $900 smartphone look as if you pulled it from a cereal box!

Everyone has their opinion. Some are surprisingly bold in their urging theirs on others.
Nobody really needs it. After all it already has a battery that works. It's simply a matter of preference.
Some would rather not have to bother with lugging around another external battery pack and it's charger and trying to find a way to leave it connected in their pocket or holster while they go about their busy day from place to place hoping they don't accidentally bend the connector over and possibly break the power port on their $900 smartphone that appears to have an insufficient battery life to carry it through the day even though it's "phenomenal".
Some of us don't concern ourselves about others' opinion as to it's looks, weight or bulk. Some of us only care about the device performing based on our particular needs / wants.
And some of us are VERY reluctant to run an app that demands such invasive permissions as
Identity - access to accounts
Location - Precise location (GPS and network-based)
Photos/Media/Files - modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
-test access to protected storage
in order to save battery life.
Why a battery saving app needs my serial #, google ad id#, precise location and ability to modify or delete the contents of my USB storage is concerning to me.
For those of us in that situation, no need to think twice about what fits our preference because the smarter choice for us is to go with what works best for us.
Some would advise that you'd be foolish to spend $900 on a phone when you could just as easily make calls and text from a dumb phone or that if you insist on a smart phone, it would be far more prudent and financially responsible to purchase a Note 2 or other smartphone on ebay or Craigslist for far less money. Yes, it's true, you could get something other than what you really want but you want what you want.
As for me, I love to hear about others ideas and findings, allowing me to make educated choices about either what I need or just simply want.
That's part of why I decided on the Anker 7800mah extended battery for my Galaxy S4 and the Zero Lemon universal rugged case that would accommodate any size extended battery. Yes, it was a brick but I didn't care 'cause I got the quality battery I wanted with a case that worked. I could also get a day and a half of moderate to heavy usage without having to plug in somewhere. I didn't have the inconvenience of either not having my phone with me as it lay somewhere else charging or carrying my external battery pack around to charge my phone, being very very cautious not to snag the cord and damage the power port on my expensive phone as I get my job done running service calls, up and down ladders, in and out of my van, with frequent need to talk to tech assistance for the product I was working on.
It also saved me the hassles mentioned above while on an overnight hikes where pack weight and unnecessary extra stuff is a consideration.
The best part though is it fit the bill for what I wanted. The "smarter choice" is subjective depending on your needs / wants. Even though for me the smarter choice is to keep my privacy rather than just hand it all over to app developers, and though I won't use it because of the invasive permissions, I appreciate you sharing about the Snapdragon app and your choices regarding charging. It allows me to see the pros and cons, and to learn about more of the multitude of things I am ignorant of to make an educated choice.

I bought the Zerolemon shockproof for my S4. It has served me well through many drops. That one looked a lot like an Otterbox to me. Only issue was the built in screen protector was very poor and sat above (not touching) the screen, so you had to press the protector down until it touched the screen to use the phone. I took it off (easy, just a little adhesive used to hold it in) and installed a Seidio tempered glass protector.
Hoping they offer the same case for universal fit with any extended battery. I'm looking forward to Anker's extended battery (in development). On the S4 they offered 7800mah vs. Zerolemon's 7500mah. I expect they may very well up the up the capacity vs. the Zerolemon again. Their warranty is 1 year and their customer service is outstanding.
Pros: it lasts very very long time, reduced shock holster
Cons: expensive, 1.5lbs heavy, huge appearance, wife hates it
Had a zerolemon on my note 3 and would NEVER buy another phone that didn't have a zerolemon extended battery and rugged case as an option! I HATE charging my phone every night because I hate the cord getting all tangled up with me while I am lying in bed trying to visit websites and watch netflix. I don't mind the extra weight or thickness because I prefer a heavier thicker phone so I know that I am actually holding something! It's all about choice and options people, you like a feather thin phone that's up to you but for me, give me a solid rugged case and a 10,000 mah battery and I am in seventh heaven!
For years now manufacturers have thought we prefer having dead but omg so thin phones instead of ones that actually make it through the day. I've always bought phones that had removable batteries so that I could buy extended batteries and turn my phone into a brick that allows me to charge it at night and use at will during the day. Most of these are oversized and require a special back cover. However, I see a lot of 'slim' extended batteries that can fit into your current phone without a bigger back. They're plentiful, and they're cheap. So why don't manufacturers just include an extended battery that is the same volume but more capacity?
I suspect that perhaps they're less safe? I recently had an extended battery start bulging inside my phone and pushed the screen up a little. I wouldn't have noticed if the screen hadn't started coming up. Scared me a little, we've all seen the pics of phones that have exploded in people's pockets.
Does anyone know more about this than me?
I dont know more about this than you?.??

wellokthen.....
They are only marketing duds ... the battery in the phone it is the same like the extender ones but be ready to catch fire because they land faulty compared to the one in the phone. Always check the manufacturer!

I've never had an issue with the extra large extended batteries that require a special back. Those always give a huge boost to battery life.
The slim one that I put in my G3 D855, however, is definitely a dud. I'm on a Marshmallow ROM that shows the estimated electricity use per app, in mAh, which has made it really handy for calculating the capacity of the battery. Every time my calculation comes up at about 3000 mAh, the capacity of the stock battery.
So that's $15 American that I'll never see again....oh well. Guess you can't have your cake and eat it too. My next battery will be gigantic.
the slim battery was to cheap and the reason for bulging
