Yup, but you probably need a stock recovery to update. There are some guides in General how to update with root etc

i wouldn't. just wait for a developer to post a rooted version of the update and flash it in recovery. ive heard root + ota updates are kinda a hit or miss as to whether it will toast you or not
I'm having trouble too help?

Lock your bootloader first. Updates check that.

Yeah locking the bootloader would work, you need to return 100% to stock though, so factory software it was shipped with, I don't know whether you still have that or if you can grab it from the official sony site, there is probably a copy of it in the forums

Running PC Companion with an unlocked bootloader is lethal. You could wait it out like PhxkinMassacre said,or skip the reverting to stock, but the bootloader is a must lock.

So in this case I can still receive OTA updates from Google even with the bootloader unlocked and custom recovery by just leaving the stock firmware/ROM on the phone?

Well there's a few ways. You can go back to comepletely stock and accept the OTA or wait until someone puts out a 4.4.3 build.

They haven't even released 4.4.3 for our device yet, have they?

Hello,
I'm completely stock, no root or anything on my Nexus 5.
I just received the 4.4.3 update (T-Mobile) and downloaded/installed. It asked for a restart, I said ok, and then it restarted.
Afterwards I checked the Android version under About Phone and it still shows as 4.4.2.
Any ideas? When I check for updates, it says I have the latest version.
Thanks!

No you can't downgrade. Once your on the 4.4.2 update/bootloader your stuck. There is one exception. If you can find a reliable jtag service that would be a viable option

If your on 4.4.2 you CAN'T unlock the bootloader. Your stuck on it and if you even attempt to downgrade or unlock it you will have an expensive paperweight. Your limited to safestrap for a recovery a only a few bootloader locked roms
