i wouldn't. just wait for a developer to post a rooted version of the update and flash it in recovery. ive heard root + ota updates are kinda a hit or miss as to whether it will toast you or not

Yeah locking the bootloader would work, you need to return 100% to stock though, so factory software it was shipped with, I don't know whether you still have that or if you can grab it from the official sony site, there is probably a copy of it in the forums

Running PC Companion with an unlocked bootloader is lethal. You could wait it out like PhxkinMassacre said,or skip the reverting to stock, but the bootloader is a must lock.

right, the safest way to update is to restore back to stock, stock kernel, and DEFINITELY re-lock your bootloader if you have it unlocked.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Not while rooted....Can brick your phone I heard.
Do not update if u are rooted.
Well if you can't update while rooted, what are you supposed to do if it auto updates? I was just sitting in bed and noticed that my notification went off on my phone and not on my tablet (meaning not email). I checked the phone and if I hadn't noticed it would have auto updated and I am rooted on stock. It said the update would start in 3 minutes after I heard the notification. I deferred until tomorrow and have my phone how I want it, so I really don't want to go back to stock. I suppose I could make a nandroid.
It really scares me though that Verizon almost pushed an update that could have potentially bricked my phone. I don't think that is right, quite honestly.

Or...
If you are looking the HE update why not just go with CleanRom 3.0. It is based off of the new HE update and is about 95% stock. The plus side is that most of the garbage (VZW bloat) is removed. It is MUCH faster and very stable.

If you haven't set everything back up again, you can clear data from Google Services Framework and try to "force" the update.

Can I boot directly into the bootloader right out of the box and do an unlock? Just curious if anyone has done this. Seems like booting up, taking the update, logging into google, etc, and doing the unlock later are all a waste of time if the unlock does a factory reset.

Can TWRP/CWM take the first update and process it? Curious if I should unlock bootloader, install recovery, and take the update...or just unlock bootloader and take the update.
You'll need the stock recovery for the OTA update.
so I am still on the stock rom I never flashed a new rom be4 on this s5
I don't mind the stock rom but have some questions.
I am being prompted for 2 updates!
1 is the software update
2 is the security policy update
what happens if I accept them? will I loose root?
& what should i do and if so could I remove the nag?

If you accept the updates and if it goes through, yes, you would lose the root.
Are you sure you are completely rooted? Because you shouldn't be receiving those update notifications if you are.

Yes, you will lose root for sure because that's what happened to my friend. However, after update I re-rooted for him. I know it's tedious but that's what you have to go through.

There is no method without unlocking bootloader. I tried a lot, none of the other exploits worked,, unless you want to spend

Yeah bro... Actually i had unlocked ? my bootloader and backed up DRM keys (require root) but after 2 months my power button was not working properly....
What i did..
Restore DRM & relocked bootloader and flash the stock rom.... And then send it to service center and they also fix the issue for free!!
So is there any way to gain the warranty back like in samsung we can clear flash counters by "triangle away" app... And here in sony with DRM method??

Hmm... I wonder. Is it okay to pick up a single sim version? Looks like everyone has dual sim here and I'm a little worried when ROMs do get ported, it might not work on the single sim version. Would it work anyway? Or do I really have to go for the dual sim?
