[Q] How can I use a pendrive for storing app data? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just got a moto g (running KitKat), and it does have otg support by default (I've tested it)
But the option of moving app data to usb isn't there in the application options.
Do I need a fresh pen drive for this? because I'm currently using a used pen drive with a lot of other data on it.
Please tell me how can I go about using it for storing apps. Thank you

Is ya USB stick like mine

The question is running apps/games from flash drive. Example: placing large game's data(.obb files) in flash drive and play. Could you verify this?

Browser downloads are saved directly to the USB storage area into the /download folder by default.
Is that not happening for you?
No. I am using opera. It only allows me to download onto the internal storage.

Btw. How do I even browse through the files on the USB storage directly on the phone.

might be a limit with android itself

Is Verizon trying very hard to make you use data?

When I would plug my old phone into my computer I could get my phone to appear as a removable drive. With the MAXX I plug it in and I get the install wizard and easy tether works.
No removable drive for file transfer.
What gives?

The CDROM thing auto launches, but the phone storage loads too in My Computer for me. Being on Windows 8, I get a prompt on how I want both to launch.
I may need a new OS! My personal computer is still on XP!

Do you have Motorola Device Manager installed currently? If so, do you have the most recent version (2.4.3)? That is probably what is needing to be installed
I thought I had the latest drivers. I will start with that.

I get an error when loading the software. That is why it hasn't worked like normal.
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Did you edit out the getvar line?
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk 2
Did you uninstall the old version before upgrading to the new version?
I did uninstall old drivers.
Getvar... Have to admit, I am clueless there.
This is required on a stock never rooted phone?

What error do you get when loading the software?
I will have to run it again. It is something the the effect of the software encountered an error during install and will not work.

That sounds Windows related to me. Win XP, Vista, 7 or 8?
There is a line in the download that has "getvar" in it that has to be deleted.

I have a xp netbook and desktop, and a Windows 7 laptop. Didn't have any issues or have to delete this getvar thing you speak of. I also didn't have to uninstall any previous versions of motorola device manager. When I installed the full app , it came up as an update.
I did notice once I had to switch the settings on my phone. Something about the media transfer protocol set as a camera.

I use cm11 by dhacker29 and the only bug I have is, that sometimes the Lockscreen does not respond after wakeup. It is a known bug and surely the devs will find a solution. Evereything else works, at least for me. Fast, stable and good batterylife. :good: Take a look at the thread in the dev-section for more informations.

[Q] Does the Note 12.2 generate enough power to run mass storage devices

Does the Note 12.2 generate enough power to run self powered mass storage devices? or we have to use powered USB Hub ?
My note pro doesn't run any kind of mass storage devices ( I'm not rooted )
One says external power needed and the other one keep ticking .
my Note 3 run them with no problems.
any one with note pro pls test and advice back.

I tried one on my NotePro but no joy: but, then I can't even get a flash drive to mount. The drive works fine with my older Xoom. With the NotePro it doesn't even power up.

Which USB ptg cable do you have? I have a couple of different ones. I managed to get one of them to let me connect my dive computer and download, but not any of the drives.
I have one that converts the USB 3.0 micro B to a standard USB. It seems to be pretty good. It is a solid piece instead of a cable, but it doesn't work with anything, including my dive computer.

It is rooted. But I don't believe that is relevant. I have done nothing extra aside from adding a theme and adding apps for multi window

Did you try to use Mass storage before rooting? as one of the posters mentioned that root will give extra permission to fire mass storage with out external power? he said root and instal stick mount / folder mount and enjoy.
I'm afraid to root before making sure that it is not a hardware problem as service center in our area don't know Even that we can mount mass storage device.

I did not try before root as it is the very first thing I did right after peeling off the plastic and powering it up. What is your reservation about rooting?

I dont have any?? I rooted mine as soon as it was available. I was just making sure the answer provided before hand had taken into account that the original posters hard drive was not powered by its own power source. It wasn't clear from the answer I quoted beforehand. I dont see the point in any android device without root.

I agree root is a must but once root warranty will void so i need to make sure that device is free off hardware problems (which I'm not sure).

I just tested a stick as well as my wireless mouse, both work fine.
