Inductive charging cover

August accessory of the month is inductive covers. Verizon's deal is if you buy The charging PAD you get a free inductive charging cover for your phone. Not a bad deal considering the pad alone is $70 (us) and the cover alone is $30. I tried to beat it with alternatives and I can't get the price that low unless you do a unofficial mod using the tombstones inductive charging method.
I am tempted to jump on this. reviews?
Charge inductive cover
The only thing holding me back is that it does not charge as quickly as the wall charger. It already takes long enough.
The downside is you can't have a case on the phone though (if it is true inductance).

most likely its a RFID resonating inductive circuit. It "should" allow charging through some cases. Maybe the thicker cases wont but there should be no problem with a gel or a thin plastic one. usually these devices will still charge even up to .5 inches from the pad itself. Since no iron core is present in these circuits the inductive force disperses quicker the farther it is away from the pad. If not enough the pad wont even try to charge the phone My sister has a wii inductive charger and she also has a pretty thick gel case on it, The inductive charger for that charges with the remote lifted a good .5 or better before it doesn't charge
I read or heard that it will charge through a case.
That would definitely be cool if it would work through 85% or better of the cases out there. I have an Incipio Silicrylic coming in a couple days which is thicker than the gel cases so I wonder if it would work through that.
Not sure I would spend $70 for it though.
Be aware that the caseback is thicker than the standard caseback and thus will not fit inside the car dock OR the desk cradle.
Also, I had to call Customer Service in order to get refunded the price of the caseback, it didn't show up as free in my cart nor after I completed my order.
Overall, it's a nifty gimmick....but i'm still on the fence about keeping it. It's getting a little frustrating removing the caseback everytime I want to dock my phone on my nightstand or put it in the car-dock when I go for a drive.
good to know it is larger. Probably be a good reason for me not to get this then. I have a hard case that clips into a holster (verizons case) I suspect this would only work with loose hardcovers or gel\soft covers
so... anyone know any cases that will fit this? I have a standard silicon case from verizon (which it charges through btw) and it only sort of fits.

when you say sorta fits do you mean its hard to get on or it deforms the case?

I guess I was a little vague haha good question. It slides on, covers the top and bottom (as in the headphone jack lines up as does the tiny mic hole), but the sides are about 1cm too short to cover the phone adequately. That means the volume buttons for me are hard to manage because they're beneath the rim of the case, rather than lining up where they should be.
I'm wondering if anyone got a more pliable rubber case to work or something.

Hey, I'm a representative from Energizer. This sounds like a great deal from Verizon, but I just wanted to let you know that we also make a great inductive charging pad called the Energizer Inductive Charger.
If you buy the inductive cover for your Samsung Droid Charge it will work seamlessly with our charging pad thanks to the Qi wireless standard. Just set your phone on the charging pad and it will start charging your battery.
If you're interested, it's available at Target, Amazon.com, BestBuy.com and HomeDepot.com

DYI Qi Car Dock [ideas/thoughts/wish-list]

Having seen some super creative members do some amazing stuff to make one-off accessories I thought we could start a thread to share ideas on making a magnetic Qi car dock for the N4. Too bad the Palm Touchstone isn't comparable because you can get them cheap to disassemble and work to mod. I am thinking of doing so with a Nexus Orb or whatever LG calls it when it is released. These other pad type chargers would need magnets incorporated. Then there is the power supply to figure out.
If there is an existing option, please share. If you have a plan, help us brainstorm it and share it.
N4 shipped today. Can't wait

Yeah, its what i thought when they annouced the orb thing. I would love a charger that is like the orb, that i can just chuck my phone onto, no hassle, and the magnets just stick too it, and it charges.
Can't wait for this!
The roads I usually drive are a little bumpy, and having a SRA doesn't help with that, so I don't think I'd be comfortable putting my phone's fate in the hands of a couple of magnets.
Here is something I did a few years back with a Palm Pre & their Touchstone charger. http://forums.webosnation.com/webos...-mounting-charger-car-solution-its-alive.html
If the Orb is light enough, I bet the same could be done.
Would it be feaseable to use velcro on the back of a mat and stick it somewhere? I'm not sure if you'd be able to get a cigarette lighter plug for an existing mat. Probably too simple, but I don't know about modding equipment lol.
The orb might work if its in a center console tray where the phone is more so leaning against the orb rather than having the orb fulling support the weight of the phone.
This goes counter what most people want and expect out of a car dock though, its more like a car stand
I'd be more inclined to do it this way as a DIY solution as well since we won't known till we try it out sturdy it will be... And sliding down onto a rubber center tray wont do much in terms of harm to the phone

There are some advantages to using a Touchstone (or Wireless Orb)-like solution. Mats usually don't have magnets, and you need to align the thing, besides in a car it will move. So that's done. Also you can tilt the thing and use it with a car dock mount. I have a pretty cool one . The suction cup is big and a special sticky material that you can actually stick to the dashboard and it's extremely secure. I have had another Arkon mount and they don't disappoint with quality. They offer a lot of different design selections for mounts and docks (mix and match). I found the dock I bought the least intrusive/ugly (including other brands). But the mount is really amazing.
So I plan to do what the OP is planning. Only that I suspect the Wireless Orb will be too expensive, and so far for me all the other available Qi chargers are still very expensive, even compared to Powermat. So I'm waiting to see what comes out and if the prices go down.

dude. while driving today i imagined using my spare brodit clip like you did to somehow mount an "orb". how did you adress the the power conversion to 12v or did the touchstone have a car power adapter?

akron and brodit too have been my go-to solutions when oem car docks don't cut it.
I think this is a great idea and would love to have a wireless charger for my car. I was thinking of finding a way of modding one of these

to allow wireless charging and NFC to turn on Bluetooth and GPS, open GMusic and turning off WiFi. Don't know how easy it would be though.
Also, if you can only find mains powered chargers you could always check out something like this.
Lastly, multi-quote might be good for replying to multiple posts

EE here, well CE but its the same major at Purdue minus 2 classes. Okay when it comes to the wireless charging inductance Faradays law blah blah.. No one cares about that not even me really haha.
What you want to know is will it work in your car with a car charger, there is always a way whether it be running an inverter right off of the battery or from the Aux power source.
One factor is unknown right now, or at least I haven't looked enough.. What is the amperage draw of the charging station. Most phones charge off of 5V at 1 amp. Tablets usually 5V 2.1A and so on besides Sony Tablet S...
What I'm getting at is most chargers then charge at these voltages so if the orb needs 12V, 120V w.e. it may be anything other than 5V an inverter will have to be run, with the original AC adapter. Unless you can find a charger that charges at the correct voltages the original AC adapter plugged into the invertor will be your best idea for now.
Now onto the car mount idea, I also had one for my pre and my current touchstone modded Nexus ..
I am thinking of buying an energizer Qi station and finding a way to mount at an angle with some sort of lip on the bottom to stop a slide off, but may look terrible have to see and energizer station in person first..
I don't really care to mount my phone to use as a GPS or anything like that. That being said I will probably make some sort of holder thing to put in my cup holder to charge the phone when I am in my car. So now dumb question; the phone being in a vertical position should not affect the qi charging as long as it is close enough right? Once I have my phone and get around to it I will post pictures of it. I might be a few weeks though, got backordered.

from looking at this http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+4+Teardown/11781/1 and already having a qi pad it seems the wireless charging contact area is rather centered.

So you have a Qi charger already? My question is how good is the magnetic pull with it? Also which one do you have? I want to try and mount the charger to my wall like I had my touchstone for my GN... But that had a good magnetic pull due to the touchstone and rare earth magnets

And it works perfect,
The charger does come with the wireless adapter to fit into the phone but I was happy with a new back,

Good qi charging receiver

I am looking for a qi wireless charging receiver that will plug into micro USB port. I have found a few for sale but would like comments on if they are any good. I am also hoping to find one that fits under my tpu case/cover and does not go up the back of the phone so far it covers the M. For some reason I like that M and made sure the case I got had the circle cut out for the M. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Wireless Car charger

Any body know of a wireless car charger that will work with note 9. Preferably with a case on it. It's to big for the one I have currently. The coils dont line up.
yes, get the iottie itap wireless fast car charger: https://www.amazon.com/iOttie-Wireless-Samsung-Enabled-Devices/dp/B06Y34XQRH
I have two and they are great!
this is currently my wireless car charger for my Note 8, a little bit expensive because you have to buy the whole car

You'd need a metal ring so it does not interfere with the wireless charging coil. Something like https://smile.amazon.com/iOttie-Wireless-Samsung-Enabled-Devices/dp/B06Y34XQRH?sa-no-redirect=1 that was posted above.
