Looking at a galaxy gear watch and I know I have to tinker to get it to work but I was wondering which features will work and which won't ? I know weather and s voice doesn't work obviously but would I still be able to change songs and receive regular notifications for texts and emails and Facebook ?

It's been a while since its release and I am certain that you (all of you) are as fed up as I am about the non existence of a true SMS app for this tablet. Yes, Google+ and Hangout and some obscure other providers give you limited SMS ability and What'sApp doesn't work but Tango ... etc.
Anyone have a TRUE SMS app for this tablet, one that doesn't require your buds to sign up for a Social App or the likes. Remember *Handscent*? I use it on my Note 3 and it works PHantastique !!!
There must be something out there that works.
I used text+gold for awhile. It was pretty good

Text+ is another example for a restricted platform. Looking for a true cross platform SMS app though.

I use talkatone. I make unlimited phone calls and text with my Google voice number and I've had no problems on my iPad mini LTE and galaxy note 8.0

It's NOT cross platform. If someone doesn't have TalkaTone, they won't get your SMS. Also, have you tried to text an international number? Don't waste your time. Doesn't work. There's got to be something better.

What are you talking about? None of the people I text even know or use talkatone and I send or receive texts to them just fine. when my mom had to go to the Philippines I set up her phone so she can make free phone calls and texts over WiFi with a local number from California, no problems there. But hey I must me imagining things if I've been doing this for the past 1 1\2 years.
So instead of complaining of my ignorance, illuminate me and trek me how it's done...Please.

I like the AT&T Messages app. Syncs with my GS4 and sends SMS over wifi on my Note 8.
Interesting. The AT&T message app wasn't preloaded - believe it or not. Furthermore it states "not compatible" when I tried to download it.
Weird. What's wrong with the device...?

Samsung ChatON
JB Messaging SMS
Glide
WhatsApp
Skype
Viber
KakaoTalk
Auto SMS
Textra SMS
I've used Google Voice, Voice+ (From Cyanogenmod) and Textra. This only works on Cyanogenmod. For wifi only variants the telephony app requires modding.

I currently use Sony Smartwatch 3 and Im planning to buy the Gear S2 and Im using moto x pure edition. Anyone got the same device with S2 paired on it? Hows your overall experience so far?
Im a bit concerned about the apps and notifications. Does it really show the notifications whenever it arrives on the phone? Im interested about the following app:
Whatsapp, Viber, Fb Messenger
I mainly use these app will it show notifications on the watch? Can I reply to these apps via watch?
Spotify
Can I press back or next & volume up and down just like I can with the Android Wear? Does it show the title of the song and the album art?
Phone Dialer
As we know Samsung is using their own dialer but in my case I have the AOSP dialer came default, if ever someone will call will I be able to swipe answer or reject from watch?
Calendar
As we know samsung has its own Calendar app, will I be notified with the Google Calendar showing the details and etc or the calendar reminder?
Textra
As we know samsung is using their own SMS app, but Im using Textra will or will the watch be able to detect that I got a message and I can read and reply via watch?
Gmail
As we know samsung is using their email app, will gmail be notified and the watch can detect that ita an email and Icam reply via watch?
I know there are other things that are not included here and if anyone can mention it please do.
Thanks!

I have a moto x pure edition as well, and haven't had any issues with notifications at all yet. Even in remote connection mode.
One thing to keep in mind, you can't put milk music on the watch since you don't have a Samsung phone.
I got my first smartwatch yesterday! Really enjoying the features I have at my disposal on my wrist hooked up to my new S7 Edge! I used it all day at work and I only have one question or concern right now. My boss will, most of the time, send out a text to me and 4 or so other guys in a group text. I get it on my watch but when I reply through the watch itself either by voice commands or manual texting it only sends it to my boss and not the whole group is there any way to make it so when a group text is recieved, if I reply, can it go to everybody? Or anything I can download to make it work? Also, on a side note it sucks there's no sleep tracking but the gnight app works pretty well! :good:
Do you have group messaging turned on on the s7? Not sure if that's what your issue is or not. I just know it didn't work on my s2 or note 5 until I turned group messaging on under settings in the messaging app.

Yes I have group messaging turned on on my phone. I'm using the Samsung messaging app, the default app. I can't find any options on my gear s2 that'd change anything...am I missing something? When I reply it only sends to the person that started the group chat not to everyone in it. Is group reply not available on the s2?

Same problem, what the heck?!? I don't want to use another third party messaging app BC the default app shows the message thread between contacts on the watch and I don't want to lose that great feature!

Did anyone get the resolution for group texting?
Tested multiple SMS apps (including stock, Textra, Yaata, Chomp) on my Chinese variant Huawei Mate 9 flashed with European ROM and finally found one that: 1) Consistently sent notifications to the Gear S3 (including sitting in the notifications until cleared/read); and 2) Allowed me to respond directly from the Gear S3 with a copy of the outbound message synced to the phone!!!
The app is QKSMS available for free from the Play store and does not require any mods to the Gear S3. I do not have Android Wear installed on my phone either.
If you try the app please post on your experiences.

Two questions:
- Reply to group SMS supported on watch?
- Do you get audible notifications of texts on watch?
Thanks
Also, noticed that there have not been any updates to the app since September 2016. So it is what it is, so to speak.

You are right -- It is a bit dated and I encountered some problems with the app itself. So I did some more testing and found another SMS app: "Mood" -- and I've tested that you can receive audible notifications. I have yet still to test group messaging.
Textra has always been my SMS app of choice but I don't get notifications on my S3. However the default app Android Messenger works just fine for notifications.

I'm planning to buy a gear S3 but I'd like to know what are the limitations and problems if i use it with a Z5 Premium, I can't get full answers with other threads. I can't even test with demo versions in Samsung stores as they have no bluetooth comms(only for show). Will there be full capability with messaging, calls and notifications? Can I access my phone's music list via the watch? What are any other limitations? I don't care about the S health and pay tho. Thanks in advance!

You will be able to get sms notifications but you won't be able to view them later with the built in sms app. When I had a different phone from my s8 sms and calling was the only thing I didn't get. When you want to make a call with someone you have to on wifi. Also the stock email app on the watch o ly works with Samsung devices other than that that's the only major difference. Apps like textra makes getting messages better on the watch were you can reply to group messages with ease.

You can change the music and pause it and change the volume through the music app on the watch that's basically it. It works on alot of music apps if not all from what I tried. It's basically a remote to change your songs on your phone

I have a Samsung device so I can't make a call and answer on my watch if I want to. For non Samsung phone you will have to use your phone to answer or your watch has to be on wifi to make calls from it. When you get a call from your phone it will show up on your watch too. For on samsung phone you can click to answer it but it will tell you to check your phone to answer it
