I got my first smartwatch yesterday! Really enjoying the features I have at my disposal on my wrist hooked up to my new S7 Edge! I used it all day at work and I only have one question or concern right now. My boss will, most of the time, send out a text to me and 4 or so other guys in a group text. I get it on my watch but when I reply through the watch itself either by voice commands or manual texting it only sends it to my boss and not the whole group is there any way to make it so when a group text is recieved, if I reply, can it go to everybody? Or anything I can download to make it work? Also, on a side note it sucks there's no sleep tracking but the gnight app works pretty well! :good:
Do you have group messaging turned on on the s7? Not sure if that's what your issue is or not. I just know it didn't work on my s2 or note 5 until I turned group messaging on under settings in the messaging app.

Yes I have group messaging turned on on my phone. I'm using the Samsung messaging app, the default app. I can't find any options on my gear s2 that'd change anything...am I missing something? When I reply it only sends to the person that started the group chat not to everyone in it. Is group reply not available on the s2?

Same problem, what the heck?!? I don't want to use another third party messaging app BC the default app shows the message thread between contacts on the watch and I don't want to lose that great feature!

All of my friends have iPhones (Im such a rebel)...
Often someone will initiate a text message to a group of us. On their phones, they all see the group, and the responses, as they come in, come in as part of a group dialogue of texts.
But on mine, they come in singly from the different contacts - so I cant tell whats a reply to the group, which texts came in which order or even who is in the group. And I dont think I can reply to the group either (or for that matter, not sure I can even initiate a group text).
I am using GoSMS. Does anyone know whether this client, or any of the android clients, would let me participate more in this kind of group text?

Thanks everyone for the feedback and sorry for posting in the wrong forum.
Regarding the suggestion above - I see under "Send Settings" in the Advanced Tab something called "MMS Group Chat"...is that what you mean should be checked?
There is also a setting called "Send as split conversations"...do I want this to be Unchecked?
Thank you.
Another good app is GroupMe. It allow texts to go through the app or to your sms.

Ive done this and been able to initiate group chats with iPhone users so thanks for the advice.
Will this work just the same when I am invited into a group chat by an iPhone user, or does it only work when I initiate? I noticed this was under Send Options, so its unclear...

Just to confirm, I tried initiating a group chat using an iphone and yes it works just like I initiated the group messaging using gosms.

awesome thanks everyone. this should be a major improvement in my texting experience.
and it helps me stay on GoSms. I tried switching to Handcent as I saw that they had a solution to this and didnt like it as much...
I was just wondering if we will be able to ever get true group messaging like the setting applies within the messaging app. One feature I liked in the iphone (I think iOS5) was when I have a group convo with someone all of the messages from the different people will appear in the same thread. In the Galaxy S 3 it sends it out as a group message but when I receieve the message it goes into its own separate thread and not just that I would only get the text from the person that started the group message. Is this a simple glitch or is the whole option just really misleading?

Exactly! which is why im just hoping an update comes soon! (even though Verizon sucks when it comes to that) or at least a modder finds a way to fix this problem if thats even possible that is
I use GoSMS, works great, not as clean interface as standard messaging app but having a MMS is more imporatnt to me.
VZ Messages
I use the VZ Messages app from the Play store (free). It works perfectly and has pop-ups. It seemed to work much better with group SMS than GoSMS did.
Definitely check out groupme. www.groupme.com and the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5ncm91cG1lLmFuZHJvaWQiXQ..
It lets people with dumb phones get in on the action. Everybody texts once central number, and texts are redistributed from the same number to everybody else and includes the name of the sender (which you can assign...pretty fun)
Downside being that people have to accept the group and add this number to contacts as "Bros" or whatever you want it to be. Couldn't be more effective for my needs though.

I dont understand why their is no group message support for our phones. I can create a group message but if i get a message from someone in that group it sends it me via their phone number not in the group message. Also if one of my friends makes a group message and im in it im not a part of it. I just get a text that acts like a slide show from their number. It works wonders on the iphone but yet on the most advanced phone they cant get a simple feature to work. So does anyone know a good txt message app that lets me do proper group messages?

The only way to get the full group messaging functionality that I have found is using the Verizon Messages app. Its a little ugly but it works perfectly especially when group messaging with iphone users. Hope that helps.

I don't use Whatsapp... and I actually dispute some of the info in that article (Hangouts works just as good as FB Messenger and Whatsapp from what I understand)... but I think I can clear up the confusion.
On the Gear S2 there is no Whatsapp app available to download and use. However, when you get a notification for Whatsapp on your watch you can still view the message in your notifications window and reply to the message with an emoji, a dictated reply, or a typed out message.
What it comes down to ultimately meaning, you can reply to messages, you can not initiate them.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, as I've said before, I do not use Whatsapp.

Has anyone noticed that sometimes when receiving an image on Whatsapp, the notification shows the image on the watch, but not always.

For me it never shows, but the person pic profile sometimes shows, others don't
Hi,
I noticed the same thing on my gear S2, wherein the images show up sometimes but not always.. the same for the person's display picture as well..
Any fix to this??
There's a problem with the WhatsApp notifications, it only shows the last message for each person, instead of each and every message.

One can get WhatsApp notifications and even reply from Gear S2 but not start a session from Gear S2 or any gear at all. There is no app like the messenger app.
Which texting app are folks using that has both a phone app AND the matching Wear OS app?
I am on Verizon and use their Messages+ app, and it works great with the Watch 4. (I realize that this is not much help to people not on that phone network).
I immediately switched to Google messages from Samsung
I tried Google Messages and move back to Samsung Messages... Samsung messages works great with Microsoft Windows Your Phone and works great with Samsung Dex.
The downside for me is that I with Bell and they do not support RCS on Samsung Messages. Google messages RCS work with Bell.
Went with Google Messages...
Using Textra on my phone. Works fine through watch. I can reply to texts, etc. I can also look at pictures which have been text to me. There is no Textra app on my watch though. Not sure how this works. I have never sent a text from my watch which was not a reply (and I have never had the desire to do this).

Yeah, that's the thing: you can't initiate a text unless your watch and phone use the same "companion" app. Textra is still my favorite, but I went back to Handcent/Next SMS so I could have this function. One of the reasons for getting the Watch 4 was to be independent of the phone if necessary. FWIW, I talked with Jason at Textra and he said they are thinking about developing the watch app.
Thanks for your reply!

That is not true at all. I use only Textra and it is the default texting app on the phone. I just sent a text originating from my non-LTE watch (not a reply). I selected a contact from the watch and clicked on the text icon and the thread appears and I can compose a message. No companion app needed.
Can you explain your reasoning in more detail?

I don't know if it makes any difference, but mine is an LTE watch. Anyway, when I tried to use the default (Samsung) app on the watch to initiate a new text, it told me I had to first make Samsung messaging the default messaging app on my phone.

That could be the difference. Perhaps on the LTE version, it needs a stand-alone/companion app loaded on the watch and the non-LTE version does not. No way I can verify that.
