I'm planning to buy a gear S3 but I'd like to know what are the limitations and problems if i use it with a Z5 Premium, I can't get full answers with other threads. I can't even test with demo versions in Samsung stores as they have no bluetooth comms(only for show). Will there be full capability with messaging, calls and notifications? Can I access my phone's music list via the watch? What are any other limitations? I don't care about the S health and pay tho. Thanks in advance!

You will be able to get sms notifications but you won't be able to view them later with the built in sms app. When I had a different phone from my s8 sms and calling was the only thing I didn't get. When you want to make a call with someone you have to on wifi. Also the stock email app on the watch o ly works with Samsung devices other than that that's the only major difference. Apps like textra makes getting messages better on the watch were you can reply to group messages with ease.

You can change the music and pause it and change the volume through the music app on the watch that's basically it. It works on alot of music apps if not all from what I tried. It's basically a remote to change your songs on your phone

I have a Samsung device so I can't make a call and answer on my watch if I want to. For non Samsung phone you will have to use your phone to answer or your watch has to be on wifi to make calls from it. When you get a call from your phone it will show up on your watch too. For on samsung phone you can click to answer it but it will tell you to check your phone to answer it

Looking at a galaxy gear watch and I know I have to tinker to get it to work but I was wondering which features will work and which won't ? I know weather and s voice doesn't work obviously but would I still be able to change songs and receive regular notifications for texts and emails and Facebook ?

I don't use Whatsapp... and I actually dispute some of the info in that article (Hangouts works just as good as FB Messenger and Whatsapp from what I understand)... but I think I can clear up the confusion.
On the Gear S2 there is no Whatsapp app available to download and use. However, when you get a notification for Whatsapp on your watch you can still view the message in your notifications window and reply to the message with an emoji, a dictated reply, or a typed out message.
What it comes down to ultimately meaning, you can reply to messages, you can not initiate them.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, as I've said before, I do not use Whatsapp.

Has anyone noticed that sometimes when receiving an image on Whatsapp, the notification shows the image on the watch, but not always.
What gives?

For me it never shows, but the person pic profile sometimes shows, others don't
Hi,
I noticed the same thing on my gear S2, wherein the images show up sometimes but not always.. the same for the person's display picture as well..
Any fix to this??
There's a problem with the WhatsApp notifications, it only shows the last message for each person, instead of each and every message.

One can get WhatsApp notifications and even reply from Gear S2 but not start a session from Gear S2 or any gear at all. There is no app like the messenger app.
I can reply to texts sent on my WiFi only gear s3 but there is no app to text people? This is a huge deal to me as it was one of the #1 uses I had for my old moto 360 (at work its easier to hide a watch than a phone when texting)
Edit: figured it out. Guess it is in the phone call app. Odd that it isn't separate.
You can. Go to Messages app in the phone. It's preloaded in the watch.
I think his problem is the same as mine. with android wear you could say text so and so and it would do so, or go to the messenger app or texting app of your choice and go about it from there. With Tizen you can request with s voice to text but it says sms isnt available (wtf?), so you need to go to the contacts, search through and find the one you want and then initiate it from there

Yeah on android wear I had dextree messenger. All I did was hop in the app and it had all my texts for every number on my phone shown. On the gear s3 I have to go into contacts, find the contact I want, then select text. Just seems like an individual texting app would be nice to have and I was shocked there wasn't one
S voice to text works. You can say something like "Text John Doe hello" and it'll send it. Not sure what's wrong with yours.

Again, there IS one. The app is called Messages in your watch. Are you saying you can't find that app on your watch?

I have the phone app but not the messenger app. And when you ask s voice to text someone it says SMS service is not available
To clarify I'm OK a US model of the classic
I have it on my Canadian wifi version. See pic. https://goo.gl/photos/mPP86DAgK5wzBoAD8

1.if i use with iphone what i miss.
2.watch faces Where are stored?phone or watch? can i download faces whit my another phone(ANDROID DEVICE) then i use that face with my iphone?
tnx
1 ability to talk directly on watch to caller, reply directly from watch to texts and emails (presets may works though)....2 stored on watch and downloaded by wifi through galaxy apps on watch itself
" reply directly from watch to texts and emails"
Not on my watch (BT) connected to Iphone 6S. Cannot reply text and mail.
See no option to change that.
How did you manage it?

Which texting app are folks using that has both a phone app AND the matching Wear OS app?
I am on Verizon and use their Messages+ app, and it works great with the Watch 4. (I realize that this is not much help to people not on that phone network).
I immediately switched to Google messages from Samsung
I tried Google Messages and move back to Samsung Messages... Samsung messages works great with Microsoft Windows Your Phone and works great with Samsung Dex.
The downside for me is that I with Bell and they do not support RCS on Samsung Messages. Google messages RCS work with Bell.
Went with Google Messages...
Using Textra on my phone. Works fine through watch. I can reply to texts, etc. I can also look at pictures which have been text to me. There is no Textra app on my watch though. Not sure how this works. I have never sent a text from my watch which was not a reply (and I have never had the desire to do this).

Yeah, that's the thing: you can't initiate a text unless your watch and phone use the same "companion" app. Textra is still my favorite, but I went back to Handcent/Next SMS so I could have this function. One of the reasons for getting the Watch 4 was to be independent of the phone if necessary. FWIW, I talked with Jason at Textra and he said they are thinking about developing the watch app.
Thanks for your reply!

Same here. Textra. It just works and there is no companion watch app.

That is not true at all. I use only Textra and it is the default texting app on the phone. I just sent a text originating from my non-LTE watch (not a reply). I selected a contact from the watch and clicked on the text icon and the thread appears and I can compose a message. No companion app needed.
Can you explain your reasoning in more detail?

I don't know if it makes any difference, but mine is an LTE watch. Anyway, when I tried to use the default (Samsung) app on the watch to initiate a new text, it told me I had to first make Samsung messaging the default messaging app on my phone.

That could be the difference. Perhaps on the LTE version, it needs a stand-alone/companion app loaded on the watch and the non-LTE version does not. No way I can verify that.
